Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in…

missvictrix

The Classic: Yep, this is me still refusing to watch anything till the new shows drop [ahh!!]. However, my Sohn Ye-jin fever continues from last week… and serendipitous timing too, considering the Sohn Ye-jin/Hyun Bin marriage announcement! Real life aside, The Classic — well — I can see why it’s a classic. The stories overlap quite nicely, and the cast (babies!) is really great. I wish the daughter storyline was given a little more time, because I don’t feel like we really got a sense of who she was, but I love a good tragedy, so the mother’s storyline was right up my alley. I also really enjoyed how “real” everyone looked in this movie. You don’t get crooked teeth and imperfect skin that much any more. I’m also a little surprised by how much I loved Jo In-sung here. He did a bang-up job with that ending scene.

Currently weecapping: Moonshine, Ghost Doctor

While You Were Sleeping: The Olympic hiatus coupled with life and a new Pokemon video game means I didn’t do a lot of drama watching this week. But there was enough time for my friend and I to watch While You Were Sleeping! We’ve just wrapped up episodes 3 and 4, and, man, I love the scene where Chief Choi interrogates the abusive husband. Yes! Justice is served! Also, Hong-joo is such an adorable character, but Jae-chan avoiding that kiss at the end of episode 4 was even cuter.

Currently recapping: Through the Darkness

Bulgasal: Immortal Souls: What an emotional finale week! Their backstory 1,000 years ago had me choked up with tears. It was heartbreakingly compelling, and it tied all the loose threads together in an impossibly twisted tale of anguish, love, protection, grief, and bloodshed. Hwal’s actions were inexcusable, yet sympathetic in his misguided desire to protect the person he loved. I’ve always wondered if Ok Eul-tae’s name was intentionally chosen to sound like the Korean word for “feeling wronged,” because it fits in with his perception of himself. Perhaps in his own twisted way, he thought he was truly doing Hwal a favor by saving him from death, only to have his soul stolen unapologetically from him. It seems like the emotional neglect he’s suffered caused him to thirst desperately for the barest hint of a bond, and he thought he’d found a kindred spirit in Hwal. Eul-tae is definitely one of the most nuanced villains that dramaland has gotten in a while, and I’ll miss his electrifying presence. Watching Si-ho and Do-yoon live fulfilling lives and grow old together was so heartwarming, and though I’m sad that our found family didn’t manage to reunite (yet), I loved the poetic justice of Hwal sacrificing himself to atone for the curse he inflicted. May everyone be happy and at peace in their next lives and beyond!

Bad and Crazy: Thanks to a booster shot recovery weekend, I finally managed to find the time to watch the last two episodes, and omg. Boss Yong! I can’t believe she got her revenge and murdered Yoon-ho by biting his neck with her bare teeth. What an absolute queen. She was severely underutilized throughout the drama, but I’m so glad her arc got a satisfying conclusion at least. The show had its hiccups along the way, but the ending hit all the right emotional beats, with fun callbacks sprinkled in. Ultimately, this show was about Soo-yeol’s journey towards reconciling his personas and healing from his past, and it was so heartwarming to see the relationship between him and K develop as he slowly learned how to trust and value himself. The goodbye scene in the hallway was beautifully heartfelt; Soo-yeol has finally learnt to embrace the K side as part of himself. All in all, this show was a fun ride, and I’ll definitely miss its characters (shoutout to baby duckling Kyung-tae!)

One Ordinary Day: I checked this drama out because my favorite group sang an OST for it, and despite having a sense of what to expect based on the song, I still had to remind myself to breathe once the episode was over. The way a tumultuous night of ill-thought-out decisions snowballed into an incriminating murder scene was so harrowing, and even though I could see the train wreck about to go up in flames, I just couldn’t tear my eyes away. It has my teeth gritted and my stomach churning, but the plot has intrigued me enough to get me to stay and find out who actually committed the crime. (And if nothing else, I’m watching at least till I hear the OST in the drama itself!)

Rookie Cops (Episodes 5-6) - Mood: D
I’m sorry but I don’t think I can buy the romance: all I’m seeing is a beautiful friendship blooming. Honestly, that’s how I envisioned it: Seung Hyun and Eun Kang finding solace in one another as they escape suffocating family tensions back at home. I also don’t appreciate the writer dragging out the big conspiracy with the student bully procedural but I can’t be upset for many talented actors out there doing cameos and gaining experience (I recognise so many of them?). And of course, it’s Gi Hanna who blew the whistle: character caricature strikes again! Park Yoo Na deserves more?

Ghost Doctor (Episode 11-12) - Mood: D+
Isn’t this week’s cliffhanger exactly the same as last week’s, except that the surgery failed? Dr Cha knew that Tess was a doctor: why didn’t he ask him for help? I didn’t like how Seung Tak broke ghost confidentiality but I guess that the arc where he has a eureka moment on how to treat Dr Cha (serious eye-roll at that terrible writing) wouldn’t have occurred without Dr Jang. Soo Jung’s parent disapproval arc is also laughingly bad and I’m not concerned at all about what she had seen 20 years ago. On the other hand, I’m wondering whose walnut cake maker’s son: someone in Dr Cha’s team?

Bulgasal: Immortal Souls (Series review) - Mood progression : C / C- / D+ / D+ / D / D / D / D-
When you look at the tragedy that started the curse 1000 years ago, the theme of xenophobia runs rampant. So why is it that the show thought it necessary to add the power-greedy Eul Tae, when conflict between humans and monsters is inherently built into the fantasy with the other creatures sans the Bulgasal pair? Si Ho’s soul reading abilities as well as Hye Seok’s shamanistic prophecies were unsatisfactorily explained and the show brought out the time skips for forcing a happy ending during the finale. The actors really tried their best to perform, but what could they do with that writing?

The One and Only (Series review) - Mood progression: B- / C / C / C- / D+ / D+ / D / D-
It started off so well: the murder made sense and the characters had understandable reasons for hiding the truth. But I was sorely disappointed to see it go off the rails as quickly as it did: the phone being in the middle of a conspiracy with chaebol coverup and all, the childhood connection that rushed the romance, the hospice slice-of-life that’s sidelined in favour of more narratively tangential murders and full-blown police incompetence (groan). And then the universe oddly decided to conspire for the OTP during the finale? But I’m like, what happened to the other male cop, he just vanished?

Moonshine (Episode 13-14) - Mood: D
Yawn to the killer reveal (we all saw it half a show ago), but its the prince manipulation that’s going to be annoying.

Love and Leashes: I didn’t know what to expect, but I really liked this movie. It was both sweet and sexy. The leads had good chemistry, and I really liked both characters. The ML was endearing. I don’t know much about BDSM, but I thought they handled it fairly well. I also liked the commentary on sexism and sexual harassment in the workplace and how women are subject to all those comments and “jokes.”

Bulgasal: This drama could have been amazing but it fell far short due to the writing and some of the acting. Lee Joon was a scene stealer and by far the best part of the drama. I did think the finale was pretty good, the backstory just came a little too late. The ending would have been touching if I didn’t think those two’s relationship was a snooze worthy red flag.

Reset: I seem to be the lone Beanie who didn’t love this. Some of that might be because I was watching it during the Olympics when the issues with China have been at the forefront, making the nationalism, police state and copaganda particularly hard to take. I thought the first half was better than the second. The motive behind the bombing and backstory didn’t really work for me. The reactions from the whole family just seemed so extreme and not that believable. It took me out of the story. I wanted more of cat guy.

Ghost Doctor: Usually, I start to tire of dramas around Episodes 10, but I’m still enjoying this one. It helps that I like all of the characters, aside from the villains.

I also thought Love and Leashes managed to be both sexy and sweet, and I appreciated how it suggested that much of what society considers "deviant" is actually much less problematic than types of harassment and behavior that's so common that it tends to be considered "normal". I was also bothered by the glowing depiction of the Chinese justice system in Reset, and I also wanted a whole lot more Cat Apostle.

I appreciate the comments on Love and Leashes. I’m not going to watch it, but I was curious-- not because of any prurient interest--but just to see how a Korean production would handle this topic. I assumed they would show the bondage fully clothed, or the submissive behavior as taking place in the library. I am happy that they had the male as the submissive, though, unlike 50 shades of gray (which I didn’t see either, but read about). The last thing we need in my opinion is more celebration of aggressively dominant male sexual behavior.

When I was in college, long ago in the San Francisco bay area, I lived not too far from a leather bar. Coming from a conventional heterosexual background, I have to admit I found the dress and street behavior of the bars clientele bizarre, to say the least, and just assumed that it was purposively “outrageous” in order to assert basic rights of sexual preference and identity. (Rights I completely support, by the way!) Now, many decades later, I know I was misinterpreting it—even “conventional” human sexuality is often just really weird.

I realize that even though a show like Love and Leashes is unusual, K-dramas do a pretty good job of handling unconventional sexual matters metaphorically, with Joseon concubines/cross dressing, various supernatural creatures, and then multiple shows about body switches etc. Now that there’s a K-movie directly portraying BDSM, though, I wonder, as an older person, if there will be a show that will breach the one great taboo topic that still remains--romantic sex between the elderly. But maybe some K-drama experts here know a show that refers more than jokingly to this? I apologize to the vast majority of commentators, who are all younger, for even bringing this topic up—I know its gross to even contemplate! Talk about sexual deviance!

I watched L&L - it’s pretty daring, far more than I would expect from Korea. Agree with you that male-dominate BDSM is far more problematic.

It’s daring for a Korean drama - for a Korean film it’s incredibly tame and cute.

Personally, I was quite stunned by Reset because it's much higher quality in writing and production (and much less of a cringe-fest) than your usual cdrama. That being said, I get your points and agree with you!
It took me a while to warm up to cat guy though - him keeping those animals locked up in cages while he was didn't strike me the right way

Really liked Love and Leashes. It focused on the emotional component rather than sexual, and the ML was incredibly well-cast (FL was fine too but it was a much easier role to play). I’ve seen Jun in other stuff so thought he’d do well here - he’s really emotive, which fits well in a movie where the ML is showing almost all emotion.

Quirky movie but also kind of innocent, which I realize sounds odd when it’s all about BDSM, but it ended up coming across as really sweet. Just two genuinely nice people, one of whom has an unusual stress relief outlet and another who is willing to indulge him and finds out she likes it. Could have gone off the rails in every possible dimension (script, direction, casting, wardrobe) but didn’t. Good job everyone! And cast Jun more!

Goong/Princess Hours (Year:2006) Abhorrence! Why did it even become an hit drama and still recommended as a good rom-com? Chae Kyung din't derserve any of those terrible treatment from the palace and Lee Shin. I despised Chae Kyung's parents so much for selling her off to close their debts, for not bothering to check on her mental well being after entering the palace and for trying to promote their own lives by taking pride in the fact that they were the Royal's in-laws. Both the ML and SML were unsuitable for her because Lee Shin's past wasn't traumatic or sympathetic to warrant him to behave rudely with the FL and Yul's kindness came across as fake as his main motive was to get back the throne. I cried when Lee Shin baited Chae Kyung into doing things, so she could visit her home or when she was barred from seeing her visting parents because she had to first finish studying about the palace history/etiquettes. The show was all the more sickening because that's exactly how young adults/teenagers in parts of Asia are forced to do arranged marriage and endure sufferings to keep their parents and family elders happy. This drama has my seal of "Kdramas abomination" because the writer concluded Chae Kyung's love for Lee Shin as a stockhome syndrome. "I started loving him because he was the only person I knew in the palace and the one I stayed with under one roof." Jeez, of course with the amount of crap Lee Shin threw at Chae Young this is the only logical conclusion to her love. I finished this series only because I wanted to check if she got back her freedom, but no, that was too much of wistful thinking. However, Yoon Eun Hye's acting was remarkable despite watching her for the first time.
My Verdict Not recommended

Fantasy Couple (Year:2006) This was a hilarious drama! I was sold the moment, the ML kidnapped her cat. Han Ye Seul's acting as a bossy rich female who lost her memories has got to be one of the best amnesiac characters in the history of Kdramas. Her husband and the assistant were also equally funny. I liked all the characters here from the mad lady Kang Ja to the cute dog and the cat.
My Verdict Recommended even though the drama lagged in the last couple of episodes.

Bad Family (Year:2006) When I think of Kdramas, I equate them with the ability to bring a rollercoaster of emotions and this is was one such heartwarming drama with lovely messages about family and funny scenes. Though I wasn't invested in the love story between the ML and the FL and was annoyed with the ML for taking advantage of the SFL's feelings for him, the story as a whole was good that it makes the viewers to forget its shortcomings.
My Verdict If you are a person like me who has a soft spot for stories with group of strangers slowly forming a strong bond, then this is the right drama.

Ghost Doctor The main OTP's romance has got to be the biggest flaw of the drama...

Required fields are marked *

because it is so uninteresting, but if you consider the bromance between Rain and Kim Bum as the main OTP then it is the biggest plus of the drama. Apart from UEE's scenes, I like the drama.

The Silent Sea Maybe, I read the reviews before watching the drama I din't find it as bad as it was critisized. I actually liked it until the final episode because nothing made sense. I din't understand why Luna was fitted with a space suit when she could breathe without oxygen and how Captain Han was sitting outside the space station when he was shown to be locked inside and his death was very unnecessary. I also thought that making Ryu Tae Suk as a person with conflicting inner emotions as plot device to get more body counts🙄🙄🙄
My Verdict Watch it if you aren't a big sci-fic geek or if you have lots of time to kill.

All of Us Are Dead Dropped it after the first episode because none of the characters were likeable, the plot boring and the acting very green.

Rookie Cops Dropped it 30 minutes into the second episode. Story reminded me a lot of the recent Kdrama Police University which was so good till episode 10, post which the intensity lulled and ended on an average note. Better to watch PU than RC.

Wow a Bad Family mention! I remember loving it when it came out. One of those dramas that didn't need a romance but had a romance because it's a kdrama, but the whole makeshift family story was so good! The little girl is now in her twenties. Time flies!

About a decade ago, Bad Family was one of several shows that convinced me that K-drama was worth watching. Fantastic writing and performances, and dead funny. In fact I don't think Kim Myung-min has ever been funnier than he was as Dal-gun. Agree Dal-gun took advantage of Bu-kyung, and was glad she got the chance to give him hell during the piano lesson.

By the time I came across Goong, the “launch it into the sun it’s so awful” slot in my drama roster was already occupied by Boys Over Flowers, so now if I’m ever in the mood I watch random 10-minute snippets.

I have never rewatched BOF and if I ever do again, it will be a Clockwork Orange-style situation where I’ve been strapped to a chair with my eyes pried open by villains.

I have mostly good memories of these old timer dramas - and had not or will not put on the political correctness lens in viewing them.

Bad Family is impressive as it carves a different lens and perspective in that era - and shows kdrama can be more than soapies as so many people viewed them in those days as said by @knewbie.

Yes, i've must have written here sometime ago that Goong kept me company in the boondocks, during fieldwork, in remote parts. I thought I would catch up with some older shows before the tsunami of new dramas hits... but Real Life interfered. 😒

At least I finally managed to watch the movie Minari. I liked the central family (and that I could understand most of the Korean dialogues 🙂), but the interactions with the outside world often came as cliché and cringey. Also... I was constantly afraid that some dark moments / tragedy would strike with those ominous shots of the chimney (burning male chicks)... but... nothing much actually happened 😆
It is a nostalgic good-feel movie... though for me Reply 1988 touched me more.

Koisenu Futari - still good and I loved the amnesia joke and smirk 😄

Thailand F4 - also still good. Some scenes were uncomfortable to watch, but I actually like that the show is not afraid to go dark... and in no way does it romanticise the violence. This school has been violent for a long time and F4 were bullies (and majority of the kids at the school as well). And Thyme does have anger management / impulsive problems and can get violent and dangerous. But there is also the growth and the redemption arc... and I can't help but root for Thyme to keep discovering and nurturing his good side (it is in him!).
(I also can't help but like darker Ren 😁 ...and be a sucker for all scenes with Kaning and Kavin (well, I have the same history with Kim Bum and Kim So Eun in BOF 😁). )

I also was really surprised at the darkness of Thailand F4, which I started watching because of recommendations on this site. (Thanks! as usual--always some great suggestions here!)

So far, I really like this one, which is unusual, because I usually don't like high school dramas, even though in the U.S. there are a lot of excellent movies that deal really intelligently with the jock-rich kids clique/mean girls/plucky average heroine/coming of age tropes.

I have not seen Boys over Flowers, or any of the other remakes, so I can't compare, but there is some real "Lord of the Flies" vibe in this one, and actually, given the way it portrays the corruption of the wealthy, and the way the rest of the school is so easily manipulated, a kind of non-romantic K-drama social critique sensibility to it.

As far as the story (again, don't know the details from the others) though I also see a good character arc starting with Thyme, and like the redemptive romance angle, I'll be interested to see how they resolve his relationship with Gorya. Of course, the big advantage with high school romances is that it doesn't need to end with marriage or immediate breakup or tragic death--the characters can just go their separate ways, having learned valuable life lessons and the names of all the luxury brands!

Am enjoying F4 Thailand too.. and my bias for Kavin and Kaning stems from the love of Kim Bum and Kim So Sun couple. It says a lot that I remember their scenes more, whereas the only memory I have of the OTP is Lee Min Ho's ugly curly mop.

F4 Thai has been hit or miss or me. Good thing you posted on it; I will pick it up at some point. What's disappointing is the Thai version of Boss & Me. Slow week for drama-watching.

ONGOING
Moonshine and Ghost Doctor - Really not a lot to comment on either. I'm ready for one to end and for the other to actually have some plot movement.

Rookie Cops - This show could do with some subtlety in its storytelling. The supposedly nice sunbae being evil was telegraphed so much. You knew every beat that was coming. Still the young cast is fun to watch - esp. the drama fanatic Dae-il.

Still missing Through the Darkness and Tracer 😔.

Planning to start Twenty Five, Twenty One and Forecasting Love and Weather over the weekend.

Bulgasal: Finished watching this last weekend. I was hella confused at the end. But not as confused as I was at the end of King The Eternal Monarch. So I guess that was a win?? Still there were some strong episodes, and I would have liked to see a better progressions of the time period shifts.

All of Us Are Dead: Really liked this! I don't think I could have fought off zombies wearing a school uniform as an 18 year old. I hope there is a second season because I'd like to know what happens to the 'Hambies'.

#Alive: Watched this right after All of us are dead.

Love and Leashes: This dropped on Netflix last night. I thought it was a 16 episode romcom, but turned out to be a movie. Not sure if anyone else saw this....I thought it was quite nicely done. Not a repeat watch for me, but definitely not a waste of time at all.

You are my spring: About to start episode 3.

I am looking forward to some of the new dramas dropping this week!

My Country: The New Age
Episode 9 was my favourite so far despite the predictable ending. I am finally getting a sense of Nam Sunho's character and motives. He did genuinely care for Yeon like an older brother. Oddly enough, I liked their "brother/sister" relationship more than the Yeon/Hwi one. On the other hand, the romance between Hwi and Heejae still feels shoehorned in.

Tracer
I think I would enjoy this drama a bit more if I could watch the episodes closer together. My memory isn't so great anymore that I forget the details of the episode by the time the next one is available.
However, I am thankful that I can watch this drama at all thanks to the team of volunteer subbers.

All Of Us Are Dead
The pacing could have been a lot better but I still enjoyed the drama overall. It was entertaining and the young cast did well. I am still in denial over a particular death. If you have watched the drama, you might know who I am talking about.

I am almost done my Avatar: The Last Airbender rewatch. Season 3 is still my favourite season. Also, I had completely forgotten how much romance this show has.

So, this week I blazed through Inspector Koo and I loved the OTT Baddies and Team B. Super quirky and fun drama, and it kept twisting and turning right until ep 12 - for me, ep 12 was the weakest episode, but, oh well, at least everything is settled and characters get a send-off. Kudos to Kim Yejum and Lee Hongnae for being engaging baddies with a great chemistry between each other and the rest of the cast. Also, I loved LHN sweet love plotline. I really wish Geunwon and Daeho end up setting up their little gym by the seaside 💚 - even though the guy is a murderer 😂. Really, I don't understand why this drama didn't get more love.

Our beloved summer: eps 13 and 14. Maybe I'm projecting, but I relate so much to both Woong and Yeonso. I just love them a lot, so I'm willing to go along with whatever drama decides to do with them for the last 2 episodes - except if drama killed off one of them or something like that, but if that was the case I would have seen the Beanie uproar 😂 so I'm trusting that this will end nicely.

Love and leashes: so last night I poured myself a nice glass of wine and settled down to watch this, because: Jun. Let me tell you, these are two seriously cute characters! 😚 Have no idea if this is an accurate portray of a BDSM relationship, but I felt that the movie had a respectful approach to the characters. They are cute, they have fun doing their stuff, and they are super respectful to each other, and not a single joke is made at their cost. The baddies here are assorted judgemental vanillas, the misogynist boss and the ex from hell, but all in all, it's a angst-low sweet movie. And the office scene, where Jiwoo starts venting all her frustrations about her male coworkers is histerical 😂
About the BDSM scenes, my takeaway is:
*So. Much. Prep. *
Really, it seems like Jiwoo needed serious research for every date, and then all the props and booking a dungeon. People really need to be motivated to organise so well. This said, alternating the scenes of Jiwoo preping ropes with Jihoo lovingly cooking dinner for both of them l was a cute touch.

Bulgasal: 6.0 Confusing. The finale tried too hard to play a dramatic "who's it" with death, reincarnation, relationships and Bulgasal-hood and then tried to weasel out of it's pronouncements. Also, still neck-biting. Boo. If they do a sequel, we should boycott. (After we're done boycotting Arthdal sequels, of course).

Ghost Doctor: 7.5

Moonshine: 6.5

Rookie Cops: 6.5

I was in the mood for an IU drama after listening through her latest album, and I'd had my eye on My Ajusshi for a while so I thought, why not??
I started it last week even though I'm swamped with college work, and needless to say I only have a few episodes left.
It's truly a masterpiece, definitely one of the best I've watched. So somber and dark, but also hopeful and warm. I can't explain it, but every episode leaves my chest bursting with a hundred different emotions 😭 I hope these final four episodes blow me away as much as the rest of the drama did! ♥

Anyway, did you watch the show while also reading @lollypip recaps on DB? if you can't get enough of MA during your watch then you might want to check the recap too. And I'm soo jealous that you watch MA for the first time, also because I remember at the time of the airing we audience have to wait for 2 weeks for ep 14 because the cast and crew need to take care of their health and I remember how understanding we were for that (painfully, because of course we couldn't wait to watch) but we love the show and the cast and the crew so much that we just want the best for them :)) enjoy the roller coster ride!

I ammm reading the recaps as I watch, it's such an amazing experience all around ♥ I am a little sorry I didn't watch the drama as it came out because I couldn't participate in the hype, but I'm also glad to be watching it now because I can go through as many eps as I want (or as my heart can take hahah)
Despite the heaviness of the show, I definitely think it's a rewatcher!

The One and Only The balance in this drama was really bad. The couple moments were so heavy they couldn't make up for the terminal illness and murders parts. At the end, the real victim was the little San Ah who was surrounded by adults unable to make a good decision and nobody took time to get her therapy!

Why they made the cop leaving like this? It looked like there was more between him and the chaebol... So weird.

Rookie Cop It's surprising how Kang Daniel is a great performer on stage, with a lot of charisma, and completely forgettable in this drama. There are so many holes in this story...

F4 Thailand It always is the same story and it's fun to watch the differences between the so many different versions. I really like the FL in this one. I'm just waiting for them to finally give taste to the ML to choose his clothes.

Reset: Very well done, although the ending felt a bit too neat & tidy, and the depiction of Mainland Chinese police a bit glowing. It was a nice reversal that the female protagonist was much better at staying calm under pressure and figuring out the best tactics to use than her male counterpart. I found it interesting though how little backstory they gave her - we learn nothing about her family, friends, life goals or even her college major. On the plus side, this allows her character to be revealed entirely through her actions. On the down side, she can feel a bit like a blank slate at times. It's an intriguing choice and I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it.

Reset (c-drama, completed}: I'm a sucker for the time loop/groundhog day theme. Binged the entire thing in one go. It's been a while since I've binged more than 4 episodes of a drama in a go, but that was how riveting this drama was - acting, directing (and burn victim makeup work), and writing and no dubbing and it's a tight, short 15 episode series. And it's a sci-fi/fantasy modern drama. And it's got warmth too, good side characters, and a pinch of romance (sometimes all you need is a pinch!). Loved it and one of my top fave c-dramas.

Would you like a cup of coffee? (up to ep 9) Catching back up with it. Not much happens, but so interesting and pleasant. It really is like sitting down with a cup of coffee. See Kim Mi-kyung as a loving mum always makes me get a lump in my throat. There should be a mother's day special where it's a highlight reel of Kim Mi-kyung. And I LOLed as Ga Won's misunderstanding because that's a natural reaction when a dude in his 20s is acting cagey around a high schooler and suddenly wants to talk to her after work at night.

Hello, the Sharpshooter - I don't quite understand why they need to tiptoe around things. "We went to the same school" and "you don't remember me" are both true and seem less like they're hiding things from him. But then, the coach and doctor just walked into his room without his knowledge and went through his things :(

The Autumn Ballad - initially I didn't realize that the FL is the daughter of her father's concubine and not his wife being the relationship between FL and her father's wife is really close. Such an interesting portrayal of family kinship.
Also like how the FL is just a fan of investigative stories and her deductions can sometimes be wrong, so it isn't some story of her being a genius... just being smart. Though her lack of martial arts training makes sense, in some of the fight scenes I was really hoping for a bit more spunk so the ML wasn't the all encompassing hero.
The best part of this is the lack of dub.

F4 Thailand - It really doesn't make sense that Thyme's mom complains about his impulse control when she's done nothing to try and curb it. Maybe I've seen/read to many stories where the uncontrollable child was sent to boarding school, had their credit cards cut off, etc. that his lack of consequences for his actions really conflict with her complaints.
And I have a really hard time wanting Gorya to be with Thyme when he's that violent. Like he even looks like he scares himself. I feel like I need a wisecrack about therapy just to know they at least tried.

Kissable Lips - kinda wish our vampire couldn't hypnotize even if it doesn't seem like he's eating a lot of blood. Still it would be nice for him to get consent.

First Love Again - unfortunately a lukewarm first episode. Is she a cat or a nine-tailed fox?

In Your Heart - if he doesn't want you to kiss him stop trying to kiss him. That first scene really soured the whole episode and excitement for this series.

Paint with Love - not sure if its the editing or the writing, likely both, but this series could have been significantly better. Said with love, because I really like this series: Tae and Singto's acting were great. Odd that they can barely handle the second-romance but then added a third out of nowhere that almost felt better put together than the main one. Also the subplot with the managers could have just been left out completely as poorly done as it was.

You're My Sky - why did they pair up the boyfriend and the brother of his girlfriend? I want to cheer for them but also no.

Finished BULGASAL. There was an epic drama lurking under a good one, and that's always a little disappointing, but this one was still worth watching. I'll repeat myself again: Lee Joon is awesome and owned every scene he was in.

THE ONE AND ONLY: Still not quite finished, but I'm glad I'm one of maybe three people who watched this drama, lol. It was done with a great deal of care. The balance between the murder mystery, chaebol machinations, romance, and existential musings didn't always work perfectly, but there was obviously so much love put into this by the writers and actors. I also really believed in and rooted for the OTP, and thought their relationship evolved realistically in the face of highly dramatic and unbelievable circumstances and stress. But I am really puzzled by the disappearance of the main cop dude. I'm too lazy to look it up, but I have to think something happened behind the scenes to necessitate a writing change because that character was clearly supposed to play a continued role and I'm sure they were building to some connection between him and another main character.

F4 THAILAND: Years ago, I watched the first 15 minutes of "Boys Over Flowers" and couldn't stand it. I've therefore never bothered with any of the remakes, either. But I was curious about this one, and it's my first Thai drama. I am enjoying it, and looking forward to new episodes, because it's compulsively watchable and the leads and F4 members all have great chemistry. At the same time, I'm troubled by the fact that despite her inner strength and many scenes showing the ML's bullying and lack of impulse control are not acceptable, the underlying message still is that the love of a good FL can make him better. Thyme's violent jealousy, culminating in the scene where he almost punches the FL, is hard for me to forget. The show doesn't brush aside his behavior by any means, but it seems to ultimately be framing his unacceptable outbursts as based on a key misunderstanding (he assumes she's in love with Ren, but she really likes Thyme and not Ren. Therefore, Thyme's behavior is misplaced and unjustified because he's wrong about the situation, not because it would always be completely unacceptable to treat a woman like that, even if she was dating Ren and preferred him to Thyme).

Got sucked into LOVE PLAYLIST on youtube. I'm not that into web dramas, but this one is cute and addictive.

This was the week I fell into the Valley of Mediocrity. Talk about wanting to throw the remote! I liked “Familiar Wife” and felt like seeing another Ji Sung drama so I tried PROTECT THE BOSS: silly X 3.

Dropping that, I went to KILL ME, HEAL ME in which his co-star was a certain actress whose high-pitched whinnying makes me want to hang a feed bag on her. She already ruined several dramas for me, including “She Was Pretty.” But I’m not sure that I would’ve liked “Kill Me Heal Me” even with a different FL.

Giving up on Ji Sung, I checked out MY GIRLFRIEND IS A GUMIHO, my intro to Lee Seung Gi. Although he and Shin Min Ah are button cute together, I think this drama was written by people still in their formative years.

Batting zero and still looking for that next great drama…

I genuinely liked PROTECT THE BOSS, but tastes differ. Silly? Absolutely- and sometimes silly is what you need. I can still picture the final wedding scene- with the two fathers absolutely glaring at each other. This show had a lot of truly funny moments. To me it is good when a rom-com actually is a comedy.

Twenty five twenty one- just finished the first episode and it was a good start. The FL's carefree attitude about the IMF crisis till it affects her life personally was so relatable. I usually don't care about the happenings around the world unless it affects me too. Her hilarious, if somewhat risky plans to achieve her dreams were fun to watch. Also she admires bona for her talent and not jealous of her so I hope we get a good friendship between both the females. NJH wasn't there much in the first episode but his interactions with KTR were also fun to watch (does fake pee boy doesn't have right to pee 🤣🤣 you'll understand once you watch). This seems like KTR's story and she's doing a good job. Also the colour palette and the props are very accurate for the time according to me. So overall I'm hopeful that this will be a good one.

We best love (seasons 1and 2) - searching for good BL dramas, I came upon this Taiwanese one. Totally of 12 episodes around 30-45 minutes each. The story was nothing new, but the leads chemistry was amazing. Though the story became somewhat confusing at the beginning of the 2nd season and I preferred the first season over the second one, the leads continued to be cute together and I enjoyed the series.

Artificial City - I might be the only Beanie watching this. I think the female lead, Yoon Jae-hee could've had a good ally in Kim Yi-seol, had things been handled differently by both of them. Kim Yi-seol had no business meeting up with Jae-hee's trash husband. I know why she wanted to go, but it was never a good idea and she knew it before she went. .... Jae-hee's mother-in-law most likely had a hand in what happened, which is bound to complicate life for Jae-hee. They've both been going head-to-head against each other and right now, mother-in-law might have the advantage. ..... Speaking of the mother-in-law, I have the last two episodes to watch and I'm still super curious about her right-hand woman/secretary. If anyone can finish the whole family off it's her with all the secrets she knows.

A strong reminder that beneath the cheesy and fluffy rom-coms, Park Min-Young is legitimately talented actress

The King: Eternal Monarch
This was an objectively terrible drama that is still can't help but like (i have no idea why). Its been 20 years and Lee Min-Ho still cant act his way out of a school lunch bag. The saving grace was Woo Do-hwan who pretty much upstaged everyone.

I've been watching Park Min Young in dramas since her High Kick/I Am Sam days. I never understood the comments about her acting, as well as the comments attributing the success of her dramas to her male leads.
Especially when her male leads aren't as consistent as she is when it comes to onscreen chemistry. I truly couldn't stand her character in High KIck , but I absolutely adored her character in Sungkyunkwan Scandal. There's all this talk about her constantly being in rom coms when she's been in a wide range of dramas over the years. In all those years, I don't think I've ever seen her play some helpless, simpering Candy. Her role in SKKS is still one of the strongest female lead characters I've seen in kdramaland. All she did was two back to back rom coms between Queen for Seven Days and I'll See You When The Weather is Nice. That far from being a rom com queen.

Required fields are marked *

In regards to her never playing a Candy, the thing that I've noticed is that she always seems to pick female characters who are multifaceted and strong, but who also can be vulnerable. In that sense, her choices seem very deliberate and smart. I also agree that she hasn't limited herself at all to romcoms--I think it's just that she has the face of a romcom heroine and having done a few, people associate her with that genre. I guess that's the price she has to pay for being so ridiculously beautiful :)

Required fields are marked *

I hope that she keeps on playing rom-com roles for as long as she can.

I agree with your characterization of her roles. She is always vulnerable but never weak. It sometimes pains me to see how far her characters are mischaracterized. Probably the greatest example of this is her character in WHAT'S WRONG WITH SECRETARY KIM? Where the correct answer to the question posed by the title is of course ABSOLUTELY NOTHING (and the ML's parents know it too): It is the people around her who have the problem and she is in fact so strong that she makes them change and deal with that problem, forcing the ML to finally face his demons. She needs to change her life and she absolutely succeeds- precisely because she is strong enough to make it happen, literally bending the world to her will. That the people around her will be far happier for it is simply a bonus.

I love the strong but vulnerable roles, whether male or female, precisely because there is so much truth in them. People can be strong but there is no one who cannot be knocked down or does not have a weakness.

Her new show just started and this time she is the Noona in a Noona romance. This is a little different so it will be interesting and hopefully fun to see her in this. We plan to watch the first episodes today.

I’m someone who watched lee min ho’s boys over flowers and many more when it was airing (yup been a kdrama fan for too long lol) And i can tell you, lee min ho was the ‘it’ dude for any drama during those times as his acting aligned with what people wanted.
But now its been years and frankly i cant tell a difference in his acting, he has always, always acted as the rich dude who has family issues and finds solace in the female lead. And its frankly getting boring as there are actors who has drastically changed their acting style to fit in with the current age. But a part of me feel like, he got too popular with the BOF role that he is now associated With that kind of role and cant break away.

I finished RESET this week and still ain't over it. Highly recommended. Overall, the drama was well written, directed and acted. The only thing that bothered me (besides the police going all Big Brother on us) was the focus on the parents for two episodes where nothing really happened, it was the only part I felt were filler. I missed the OTP and I felt the reasoning of the parents felt weak and poorly sustained. The main leads were terrific together and I liked how their characters balanced each other out even though we never really got to know anything about the female lead. Had the drama kept on for several more episodes, this probably would have bothered me but her character really shone through and this gave me enough of an understanding of her. I am way more bothered by the bulky man with the headphones who were just standing there during most of the loops.

I have continued to watch BRIDE OF THE CENTURY. It is a good show. I am watching it slowly, in part due to work and in part the Olympics. I am also watching THE VIRTUAL BRIDE. We are also slowly watching the C-drama CUPID’S KITCHEN.

My wife completed her watch of THE GLAMOROUS IMPERIAL CONCUBINE (on Netflix) and says it is very good. Now she is watching the Chinese Costume drama SECRET OF THE THREE KINGDOMS which she says is really good.

In addition to the Olympics and watching K-dramas (and C-dramas) we took some time this week to watch a recording of a wonderful (or shall I say S’wonderful?) recording of a recent stage production of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, a musical based upon Gershwin’s tone poem of the same name. As told this musical is not just a stage copy of the 1951 Hollywood movie version (also S’wonderful) starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron but tells a different version of the story better fitted to a stage production but still faithful to the romance of the original.

Only one episode this week for YOUNG LADY AND GENTLEMAN. But it was a humdinger. Our Young Lady’s father put up a heck of a fight- and has persuaded Dan Dan to go to the US with CEO Anna (she still does not know this is her baby mama) but on the understanding that if she is still in love with our Gentleman at the end of that time she can come back, and Daddy will reconsider his opposition. Why would anyone think that this three years in the US idea would extinguish true love? As an American I take serious umbrage at the idea that my country kills love. Besides, if it didn’t work in SEO YOUNG, MY DAUGHTER why would it work this time? Then, to add upcoming weeklong suspense this episode’s ending cliffhanger is our Gentleman learning that CEO Anna is in fact Dan Dan’s birth mother. And now- again just one episode this week. I guess we can think of it as the Olympic Effect.

Netflix just sent me an email: FORECASTING LOVE & WEATHER is now being broadcast. 2 episodes per week- this is not one of those shows that they release all at once. We have been looking forward to this one.

LOVE AND LEASHES is now on my watchlist, thank you fellow beanies, although BDSM is not my thing either but so what?

If you haven’t seen Eternal Love, it’s gateway historical cdrama for most international audience. Mark Chao earned the nickname “plastic surgery acting” because in stills, he didn’t look that handsome, but when he acted, everyone was swoon!

For best written, I would go with masterpiece Nirvana in Fire.

For most delicious (intrigues and backstabbing circa inner court ladies) - Story of Yanxi Palace. It was so popular the government ordered a crackdown on historicals promoting wrong values

chip in for the recommendation on cdrama, but the list I have might have been things you've completed though, relatively older ones:
1. General and I: stars Wallace Chung and Angela Baby, the story about a strong willed and very smart woman is my catnip, and I appreciate the story that can overshadow negative comments on FL acting.
2. The Imperial Coroner: this one started unimpressively for me, the first ep really shows it as a low-budget production, but I'm glad i continued with it based on beanies recs, and it was a really good drama, enjoy the mystery reveal and sweet development of the lovelines.

enjoy!

First of all, let me congratulate you on having watched some very good Chinese Costume dramas. You have very good taste. They come is several flavors, as you know, and so I will not limit the list to just one kind, but rather all three: Wuxia, Xianxia and straight historical fiction.

First is the great fantasy drama LEGEND OF FUYAO which was based upon the novel EMPRESS FUYAO. My son thinks that this story’s fantasy world is every bit as complete as Tolkien’s LORD OF THE RINGS. Another fine fantasy, starring the incomparably beautiful Ni Ni is LOVE AND DESTINY. You could also try ETERNAL LOVE (I see that someone else already mentioned this one- it is really good) and LOVE AND REDEMPTION.

Almost everyone would recommend THE UNTAMED and NIRVANA IN FIRE and my wife is no exception. She adds NIRVANA IN FIRE 2 as well.

The Chinese historical drama SERENADE OF PEACEFUL JOY which is set in the Song Dynasty and actually showed the fundamental flaws of that dynasty. Set in the brief earlier Liu Song dynasty (which existed during the last years of the Western Roman Empire) is SONG OF GLORY, which was very well done. She also thought that DREAMING BACK TO THE QING DYNASTY was fun. Another fun show was IMPERIAL DOCTRESS.

There is also THE STORY OF MINGLAN. And for some female empowerment there is IN A CLASS OF HER OWN.

If you like both period dramas and mysteries you could also watch IMPERIAL CORONER (super good), SLEUTH OF THE MING DYNASTY and MAIDEN HOLMES (she loved it).

I think that I will conclude this with a non-costume drama recommendation for when you need something really light and fluffy: The rom-com MY LITTLE HAPPINESS had me smiling from beginning to end.

Plan to watch Forecasting Love & Weather this afternoon. In real life, getting an actual meteorology degree requires a very heavy course load of higher maths; most TV weather people are simply presenters. The combination of lots of moist ocean air and mountainous terrain makes Korea an especially difficult region for making accurate small-scale weather forecasts.
Must turn off the science part of my brain to watch this show and the upcoming Grid . Will most def be heard muttering "numerical forecast modeling" (called KIM in S Korea, natch) and "magnetosphere" which is what really protects Earth from solar wind. Don't mind me.

Initially I am impressed. Everyone turns on their taps and expects clean water. Everyone expects waste water and storm run off to be carried away and dealt with. Some people have the responsibility of making sure all that happens. Ep 1 did a credible job outlining that occupation and making the personal health toll of all that responsibility understood.
As somebody who once had to figure out how to clean up contaminated groundwater, I'm down with this.

Just read that writer-nim spent many hours with the national meteorology team and they worked hard to make sure the science was solid. Hubby listens to the regional weather briefing every Tuesday so I have a good source for bone fides. He tends to lurk while I watch and expressed surprise at the attention to adiabatic temperature changes (air forced to rise and then descend over mountains). S Korea has lots of mountains.
I also enjoyed the rom com aspects (so anti-trope)!!!

The equations are gnarly but the concept is pretty straightforward. So you only have actual data about temperature, wind speed, atmospheric pressure and moisture from a couple weather stations and balloons but you have to forecast for a whole region.
Now picture a baduk (go) board net over the region that is also stacked from the ground up to about where jets fly. The goal is to take the real data and spread it out over the grid.
Starting at an intersection point use the real data and run it through an equation. Plug the answer from that calculation into the next intersection, use the answer for the next point and keep going for many thousands of repeated calculations. Obviously supercomputers are the work horses of numerical models!

I wasn't in the mood to watch any new Korean show this week, so decided to revisit some old ones.
Have started Moment of Eighteen that I was not able to complete while it was airing.
Just finished watching Nightmare High/Teacher. The ending was a bit confusing.
F4 Thailand is the only currently airing show I am invested in. The classroom scene in episode 7 was really hard to watch though. It affected my enjoyment while watching the rest of the episode since that particular scene kept on replaying in my head. In hindsight, I realise what the show was trying to convey and appreciate that it is not shying away from addressing such dark topics (hope they continue to address Thyme's anger and impulse control issues in the future episodes as well). The process of self-improvement is not easy, and at any point during character development, regression is possible. I like that in this version, Gorya is an inspiration for Thyme to change for the better and break away from his mother's negative influence. The realisation or the choice to change oneself should come from the person itself. Thyme is very much aware of his inner demons and is willing to work on his betterment. I also love the symbolism, metaphors and the background music used in this show.

Just finished. Ohmygod, Bora’s wedding 😭😭😭
Bora and Appa’s letters 😭😭😭
Took me back to my own many years ago. I was one big mess, even worse than Bora. The wedding ceremony took longer because I couldn’t stop crying.
I remember my father’s business partner came with his whole family all the way from Japan. We had this bridal shower, the whole ceremony presented by our language, so they didn’t have single clue what the MC was talking about. But they cried, they cried so much. Also the next day, on the wedding day, they cried a lot, too.
Only weddings and funerals do that to people.
I know I’m the super minority here, but Deoksun’s love line is in the least of my interests.
The minute I saw how our beloved late Kim Joohyuk used his hands, I knew Deoksun’s man.
Throughout the series, all I see is families and friendships, with their all goods and bads and ups and downs and all the beauty of it.
Whoever here has a family, treasure them. Whoever has closeknit friends, never take them for granted. Because time will take them away from you and nothing can replace them.

25-21 premier watch - I really really like it. I thought it was nicely written. A very good slice of life. Gives me Reply 1997/1988 vibes.

Kings Affection child FL - who was the best part of TKA - briefly makes an appearance. Her memorable turn in TKA was not a fluke, she really has potential.

Kim Tae Ri tends to shout but I don’t mind, I always like her acting. NJH doesn’t overreach - he fits well for the role.

So far so good!

We finally have a new batch of dramas! Haven’t started any of them at the time of writing but I’m so excited to.

Chicago Typewriter: This show is evergreen and gets even better on rewatch. I already got to episode 9 because I’m going through the show so fast and y’all, the scene in Gwanghwamun. It breaks me every time. It hits even harder for me watching in February because it’s the month the youth of my country were brutally killed when fighting for the right to speak our mother tongue by a tyrannical, colonial government which wanted to completely eradicate every facet of our unique culture and traditions, down to the language we spoke. My home country and Korea are miles apart in distance, but so many aspects of our history are similar. Maybe this is why I love the past storyline of Chicago Typewriter so much. I can see parallels between the struggles faced by colonized nations and the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters in order for us to never again be under the thumb of such oppressive empires. God this freaking show. The things it does to me.

F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers: LMAO it feels so weird to talk about so lighthearted and unserious (in comparison) after the paragraph above. In all seriousness though, I remain flabbergasted at how actually good the show is and how it continues to get better each week?? I genuinely did not think that was possible to achieve in this franchise, but they’re doing it against all odds. I love Gorya and Kaning, I love the F4 boys, and I love how grounded the world of the drama feels despite the obligatory bizarreness this story requires. Now the only thing I need is more Kavin/Kaning scenes because I’m already obsessed with this second couple who are such a long way off from being a couple. But otherwise, keep up the good work!

Ghost Doctor: Dear writer(s) of this show, please stop wasting your actresses challenge. I thought dramaland as a whole was getting better at this, but apparently not. I’m fine with the show primarily focusing on Rain and Kim Bum. What I’m not fine with is completely shafting female characters narratively and making them perpetually crying damsels who exist to cause man-pain. Do better. Oh, and while we’re at it, keep your lore in check. I can forgive some fantasy plot-holes since this is a comedy, but not this much.

Through the Darkness: *screaming, crying, and throwing up* GIVE ME MY DRAMA BACK SBS!!!

Tracer: Caught up to episode 4 now. I remain amazed at how concisely the show is able to clearly relay the vast network of characters and their individual allegiances, motivations, and place in the hierarchy. That, combined, with an excellent central cast means the show never has a dull moment. I really hope the “season 2” manages to keep up the momentum.

I totally agree about that scene in Chicago Typewriter - it hit me harder than even the end, and I suspect after everything that's happened over the past several years it would feel even more relevant now.

Twenty Five Twenty One: I’ve been bored so I watched the first episode with zero expectations. LOVED IT!!! Can’t wait for Ep 2.
Forecast: This and 39 are the dramas I’ve been waiting for. It dragged a bit, but I think it’ll get better.

Rookie Cops: CSB is still carrying this drama. Unfortunately Kang Daniel, just isn't good enough and should not have been cast as the lead. That being said Park Sung Joon is hilarious, I hope to continue to see him in the future. I am still enjoying it for what it is.

The One and Only: This was a sweet drama. The unexpectedness of an awkward contract killer loving an awkward terminal patient was fun. It was really a nice drama, and I am glad I watched it.

I'm not watching anything currently airing, but after finishing the sweet and thoughtful little drama Sweet and Salty Office (KBS, 2018), I geared up for another oldie that has been on the back of my shelf (or 'illegal' shelf *cough) for almost A DECADE, haha..it's Phantom/Ghost (SBS, 2012), starring So Ji Sub, and a young Lee Youn Hee, i won't say anything more about other cast because it could give out the plot that is quite big part of the story. Kim Eun Hee (yeah, the Jirisan writer :)) penned this, and I know why I love her crafted story. for me, Jirisan has a good mystery element and the fact that I didn't love it as much as I love Sign (SBS, 2011) didn't prevent me to finally watch Ghost. I remember at the time it was aired I was just changing job to banking world and nervously catching up within the industry so didn't have time to watch it, and I just think now it's the perfect time.
I'm up to ep 16 now, and i felt that it's been really good and tight show up until ep 14, but felt slower in ep 15-16, maybe because of the extention. From what I read in DB they planned this for 16 ep and then gone with 20 in the end. the cast is doing a good job, and beside the gentlemen, LYH did fine here too, and I can say now that she's been in 3 faves drama of mine (Miss Korea, The Package, and now Phantom).
and I just want to say how grateful I am for DB recapping this show, now I'm watching the show and excitedly reading the recap and comment, it was great! thanks a lot DB!

The Classic is a classic for many reasons, right? Its story line is the classic romance from an earlier era and we get two instead of one. All three leads - Son Ye-Jin, Cho Seung-woo and Jo In-sung - despite young but showed their superstar potential. The rest is history.

Lastly, its OST is deeply ingrained in our memory - especially Me to You and You to Me and the run in the rain scene is now a classic on its own, repeated in so many dramas, movies and varieties.

I still rewatch the movie scenes every now and then, such as dancing class at uni, run in the rain and also the gallery scene of SYJ and JIS walking parallel between paintings. And I love CSW for life because of this movie. And what a range he can master from this to Hwang Shi-mok. I also wonder why JIS never ages. But of course, I’m so happy and have nothing but best wishes for SYJ’s upcoming nuptials.

The Classic's OST is great. It made me discover Kim Kwang-Seok with his beautiful song Too Painful Love isn't Love. He wrote so many good songs.

I love the story of FATED TO LOVE YOU- the k-drama re-make of a T-drama of the same name- have you ever watched the original? It is more slapsticky but also really good.

I want to add that "Love and Leashes" surprised me too with how sweet the storyline was while exploring BDSM. They showed all kind of play but also managed to delve into the feelings of both the characters. Assuming that what they are depicting is correctly researched, brings more awareness on the theme too.

Also, since people have mentioned a Thai Drama like F4 in the comments, I wanted to add that there is brilliant Thai rom-com that just got over - it's on youtube by GMMTV called "Bad Buddy". Great acting and crackling chemistry - made me feel as much as great korean rom-coms like Reply Series, Coffee Prince, Queen Inhyun's Man, etc. It's a thai gay romance story and so fun and hilarious and cute. Really, really recommended - in fact, I would say it's one of the best rom-coms I have seen in all languages.

@missvictrix - Did you just wrote all my thoughts down?
I was over the moon with the news of Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin getting married so I want to go back and watch both's previous works. I started with The Classic. I wish there is more time spent on the daughter's story line. I read that the director was disappointed with Jo In-sung's acting but I was impressed with him. I'm planning to watch Secret Garden next.

Yes. Summer Scent was my first time watching Son Ye-jin. It was love at first sight! The drama itself wasn't memorable except the pretty first leads :).
I will have to watch "Lover's Concerto" one of these days especially my wedding dance song was A Lover's Concerto
