A closer look at the supporting cast of Doom at Your Service

More promos have been released for tvN’s upcoming fantasy Doom at Your Service, featuring the supporting cast in new character stills as well as a new drama poster.

The story stars Park Bo-young (Abyss) as an ordinary human who unexpectedly finds herself putting both love and her life on the line in a dangerous signed deal with Doom himself, played by Seo In-gook (Hundred Million Stars From the Sky).

Unaware of these larger stakes in Park’s life, fellow colleague and web novelist Shin Do-hyun (Memorials) gets involved in a more “normal” dilemma and is torn between two love interests. Does she feel pulled towards the resident Casanova and chief editor at her work Lee Soo-hyuk (Born Again)? Or is her heart re-kindled by her puppy first love and café owner Kang Tae-oh (Run On)?

Although the stills are of Shin, Lee, and Kang, we get to see all five actors in the newly released poster who look contemplative, standing against a lavender night sky. The tagline reads, “What is the one thing you wish for in your life?”

Written by Im Me-ah-ri (Beauty Inside) and directed by PD Kwon Young-il (Unfamiliar Family), tvN’s next Monday-Tuesday drama Doom at Your Service premieres next month on May 10 following Navillera.

I hope this is good. I will watch regardless because I love Seo In Guk so much, but I haven't like many Park Bo Young dramas, but we shall see.

There must be some reason why Kang Tae Oh's agent decided that this sort of character would be a great follow up to his stint in Run On, right? Maybe some twist in this love triangle that makes it palatable to watch? Otherwise, Kang Tae Oh should be wondering if his agent is secretly sabotaging him because this show sounds like the supporting cast is there to provide some filler to contrast the melodrama from the main leads: the role is looking to be a clear downgrade for his career. To be fair, maybe the agent thought that starring alongside heavy hitters like Park Bo Young and Seo In Guk would provide some visibility boost that makes him more marketable for future lead roles. And we all know the casting market is fickle like that when some people are getting lead roles despite terrible acting (one currently airing weekend show managed to dodge a bullet).

As for the other two, I kind of understand why they might take up these roles. Shin Do Hyun is still a newbie and this 2nd lead role (and she's the prize at that: I hate to use the term but it is what it is) will certainly be a step up. Lee Soo Hyuk is probably still trying to develop his post-military career and I think he'll be happy if anything can wash off the stain that is Born Again.

Story-wise, it appears to me that Lee Soo Hyuk will be getting the girl this time round based on the billing order of the cast. And I think by making Kang Tae Oh the first love the writer probably intends to send the message that not all first loves last as a sorts of an anti-trope. It would be rather lame for the writer to stick to the trope. But we'll have to wait for actual episodes to come before judging the triangle properly. (who knows, we might actually get a twist where it's not the two guys chasing after the girl, what with LGBT pride month coming up)

This has Seo In-guk so of course I'll tune in but tbh it doesn't sound good. Don't make me drop you, drama.

I agree. Actually, at first, I thought maybe Dan-Ah bought it for him, but then I realized Young-Hwa bought it himself to prove himself to whoever doubted him

I honestly was shocked that Lee Soo Hyuk and Kang Tae Oh are in this. Because there was so much about Park Bo-young and Seo In-gook that for more than a second I thought they only had leaders and no support cast. Besides I didnt see any of their agencies (YG or MOC) posting about it (until a week ago).

Why Kang Tae-oh stars as a second, second lead astounds me, I had been hoping for something more or different for him. He was so excellent in Nokdu and Run On.

I'm also worried the story sounds slightly thin, but on the other hand, I could watch SIG reading a book and still watch.
