Love in Contract is not as simple as it seems in new video teaser

After scaring (or is that scarring) us with their character poster drop, tvN released the next teaser for Love in Contract, and despite everything I’m still sold. The cheeky tone and comedy come across in the small snippets we are given, and I can’t wait to see more.

The drama stars Park Min-young (Forecasting Love and Weather) as our multi-tasking heroine Choi Sang-eun. She offers contract marriage services for men who need to get married for appearances only. Her Mon-Wed-Fri contract husband is Jung Ji-ho — played by Go Kyung-pyo (Private Lives) — but their contract-wedded bliss is interrupted when a chaebol celeb played by Kim Jae-young (Reflection of You) takes up her Tues-Thurs-Sat slot. Oh, the horror.

The new (technically third) video teaser opens with fun music and a montage of Sang-eun and Ji-ho bowing to each other and cosplaying a married couple on the days that Sang-eun is contracted. The teaser and song continue through the days of the week until we hit Saturday. A record-scratch sound effect introduces our chaebol celeb Kang Hae-jin and he asks Sang-eun to sign a contract with him. She seems surprised, and he tells her they should act natural… while demonstrating the most artificial forced laugh ever. Oh boy, I think I’m going to like Kim Jae-young being funny for a change.

Speaking of funny, the next cut is of a straight-faced and grave Sang-eun explaining to the workers at the wedding hall that she just got divorced on Sunday but she’s getting married today. Oh boy, I think I’m going to like Park Min-young being funny again. Forecasting Love and Weather was so bland and humorless — I hope this drama lets her sparkle come out!

The teaser ends with some more quick cuts of our action to come, while Sang-eun announces in voiceover that: “The moment you need to get married, contact me.”

Written by Ha Gu-da, with PD Nam Sung-woo (My Roommate Is a Gumiho, Old School Intern) at the helm, Love in Contract premieres September 21 on tvN.

It does look funny I hope it is an old fashioned rom com that’s has you crying with laughter one minute and smiling at the cute the next. I am really looking forward to this one as I can’t see how they are going to stretch it out to make it a good watch for 16 episodes.

Yes, 16 episodes is a concern. I'm still looking forward to it though!

This doesn't have to be original or particularly well written. It just needs to be consistently fun and light.

Basically, I don't want to be bored--that's all I ask of you, drama.

Faking dating I understand but marriage, it's risky. I mean more than once like to the wedding of someone else.

At least, this Go Kyung-Pyo won't have to leave with the woman he loves and the third party to the triangle 😂

His days as the third wheel or even a ghost seem to be over.

Still curious who the lead is because all the early info pointed at Kim Jae-young as the main lead

My problem is the premise is fatally flawed. Yes, In South Korea a marriage is official when you register it in the local district office. However, South Korea also recognizes common law marriages. So if you have a ceremony and act like husband and wife, it is a marriage in the eyes of the law. Thus having two public "marriages" is adultery but in 2015 the Constitutional Court ruled adultery is no longer a crime. But that does not absolve the social and cultural stigma.

I was assuming that as long as the person curating the wedding is not an ordained official it’s just acting and if there are no legal documents being signed then it’s not legal.

Now that I'm older, fake marriages make me a little horrified because I think of the legal ramifications and how it can be so easy getting outed on social media. And then I feel bad if there are elders who end up warming up to a fake family member. And then on top of all this, this takes place in a geographically small country like South Korea and in kdramaland where there is only that one coffee shop that everyone goes to. Someone will know someone who knows someone who knows your mom.

i am gearing up to watch this. i think i am going to love it. i love the cast and Park Min Young in anything, even forcasting love and weather! could it be that she brightens up the stage just being on! i kind of liked the weather show just for its cathartic vibe and it did hold my interest most of the time.

Not a fan of her 'new' look but I have always watched PMY dramas. I wish she do more melo like I'll Go To You When The Weather is Nice.
