Premiere Watch: Cheer Up, Love is for Suckers, Bad Prosecutor, Glitch

Dramaland just keeps on giving! This week we have lots more goodness premiering: cheer squad feels, friends-to-lovers with extra squabble, a delinquent prosecutor making trouble, and an alien abduction with two quirky heroines.

Cheer Up

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: SBS
Genre: Drama, youth, romance, mystery
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: I’m sure I’m not the only one that heard the synopsis of this drama and thought: can this be the next Sassy Go-Go? From our lips to the drama gods’ ears! Either way, we have a campus setting, an elaborately attired cheer squad, and a new batch of recruits that join the team. With a pretty fresh-faced cast of Bae In-hyuk, Han Ji-hyun, Kim Hyun-jin, Jang Gyuri, Lee Min-jae, and Lee Eun-saem — all looking adorable in their varsity blue — this could be the dose of campus cuteness we didn’t know we needed. (Also, their commitment level is clearly 10/10 due to the fact that they wore their cheer costumes to the press conference lol!)

TL;DR: Cheerleading, campus romances, threatens to also contain a mystery

Love is for Suckers

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Rom-com
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: ENA’s next drama in their Wednesday-Thursday slot is here, and I am all about the pairing of Choi Siwon and Lee Da-hee. I’ve been fans of both of them for a long time, but together? In a modern rom-com? About long-time friends that fall in love? Sign me up! ENA hasn’t been able to crack the magic of Extraordinary Attorney Woo, but they sure are bank-rolling some really fun dramas and actor pairings. Whether it’s a smash hit (and the latest and greatest rom-com to go down in history), a hidden gem with a passionate fandom, or just a middling story that has a few moments of greatness — I’m all in.

TL;DR: Awesome Choi Siwon and Lee Da-hee pairing, friends-to-lovers storyline, looks spunky and fun

Bad Prosecutor

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: KBS
Genre: Crime, action, legal
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: We might all be feeling the legal drama fatigue, but a legal drama about a prosecutor that doesn’t care about the law? Who wears a track suit, has fizzy hair, a gang of delinquent friends, and goes around with a baseball bat when bad guys need to be taught a lesson? Could be a blast! With D.O. in the lead — one of the idol actors whose performances I’ve regularly enjoyed — and Lee Se-hee hot off her success in Young Lady and Gentleman, I think I like the cast as much as I like the premise. Legal shows have a tendency to just be so damn serious and repetitive, so if Bad Prosecutor really has the nerve to pull this one off — and will have D.O. beating people up and wreaking general havoc — I will be there for it.

TL;DR: D.O., Lee Se-hee, legal drama that looks more like action, good delinquents beating up bad guys (how’s that for a drama logline?)

Glitch

Time slot: Friday (single drop)
Broadcaster: Netflix
Genre: Sci-fi
Episode count: 10

Reasons to watch: If you weren’t already convinced that the Jeon Yeo-bin + Nana pairing was going to be the major draw of this drama, their photos from the press conference will do it all for you. They practically sell the entire show just standing there being awesome. Girl crush squared! Anyway, Netflix’s Glitch is a sci-fi story that looks like it will add a heavy dose of color, comedy, and quirkiness to the story of alien abductions, cults, and otherworldly happenings.

TL;DR: Jeon Yeo-bin + Nana, aliens, quirky tone, Netflix

is FNOD FNAF's cousin? I think they should be cousins. And also like storybook trolls. They would make good names for children's storybook trolls.

Can't believe Glitch is finally here. It felt so far away for so long and then BAM *the stress. the nervousness.*

Current plan is to start 3/4 of these. Cos I can. Not that I don't have three ongoing slow watches to finish or anything on top of airings...

I think Cheer Up is going to have slightly more of an actual focus on literal cheerleading than Sassy Go Go from the looks of it though... lmao (SGG has all of my heart but it is not a plot-strength drama haha)

Are you sure Cheer up 2022 version is on Viki it keeps bringing up Sassy Go Go which is called Cheer up on Viki in my region.
However, I found it on the free HiTV app which also has One dollar lawyer, Golden Spoon and Unicorn all of which I couldn’t find elsewhere.

Is https://www.viki.com/tv/38871c-cheer-up available in your region?

How legal is HiTV because One Dollar Lawyer and Golden Spoon are clearly licensed by Disney+?

Who knows I assumed it was as it has pop up ads which are not dodgy and I downloaded from Apple App store 😐

I'd be surprised if it is because it has Pachinko, which is an Apple TV+ original.

I clicked on the link and it’s not available on Viki in my region 😞

Yeah, I got Viki initially for a month to binge a couple of shows, intending to cancel it after that. Six months later I'm still paying for it and still watching enough to make it worthwhile - but I'm a newcomer to kdramas and they have a big back catalogue for me to catch up on.

I'm excited for Love in Contract today!

😆 I meant to say Love is for Suckers - but both, actually!

This, exactly this, is what I am confident is going to happen to me. I still have such a backlog on Netflix that it doesn't always feel worth it, but viki has so many shows that are airing currently!

I am excited for cheer up and love is for suckers. I love BIH and HJH has done a wonderful job in Penthouse. I have been waiting for her next main project since then. Same goes for Love is for suckers. LDH and Choi Siwon are artists I like and it's a rom com will definitely watch. As for the other two, I might probably give bad prosecutor a pass atleast for now because of the ML. His acting doesn't appeal much to me ( one of the reasons 100 days my prince is there is stuck in my watchlist for ages). Glitch can be hopefully my weekend binge between the already full drama schedule.

Dramaland, you can stop giving. I don't have time to watch four new shows.

As I remember in Sassy Go Go, none of them really wanted to be cheerleaders in the first place. My favorite scene was pure meta, when one of the guys was asked which kpop group was his favorite, he said APink, which I found hilarious.

Half of the team wanted it but the other half it was for brownie points for college applications.

Half the team wanted dance but only went after cheerleading since their club was getting cancelled by the college applicant half. Surprisingly, there was very little cheerleading overall lol. Hopefully, this show will have a good balance of showing practices, performances, and plot.

The actual Cheerleading in Sassy Go Go is a just a plot device, and real cheerleading isn't really important to the show at all, it's just there as a framework for everything else, which I have no problem with in that show at least, because what the show is actually about is so much more important and the characters and the themes that the show explores using that basic premise are more than enough to carry the story.
I don't really think comparing the two Cheer Ups at this point is really necessary since this one seems very different thematically to it's 2015 distant cousin-in-name-only.

My original post wasn't meant to particularly pit the two against each other. Admittedly, Sassy Go Go didn't really live up to a rewatch I did last year in terms of the plot overall, but this was more to say that with a show truly focused on cheerleading, I would hope there would be a good view of practicing and performances without it also feeling like I'm watching ESPN. There's a lot that can happen in both to drive characters and plot if done right.

@crysta
No no you're right I probably came across as a bit more combative than I intended lol. I was just clarifying again 😂
I think I said similar to you in my own original comment up there at comment no. 2 anyway haha
(I also just wanted to talk more about Sassy Go Go haha.)

Oh, I thought the girl in Cheer up looked familiar, it's Jang Gyuri, who I really liked from Produce 48 and so I may watch the show :)

Yes, she was that cute medical assistant at the hospital. So far I've actually watched the first two episodes and they are really good, although Jang Gyuri's part so far isn't that big. We really haven't met her yet, per se.

I'm already behind on the dramas I'm watching now and dramaland gives us four more. I don't know where I'll find the time, but I'll probably try them all. I'm most excited for Glitch (Please, please be good because Jeon Yeo-bin and Nana look so cool) and Love is For Suckers.

"Glitch" and "Bad Prosecutor" sound right up my alley. (Typing this while I still haven't managed to watch all the currently airing dramas that have piqued my interest... 🥲)

Those cheer customes are a delight to my sight. Ditto on the commitment but I don't trust this one at all. A recap will do.

Love is for suckers🤭. I'm a fool myself. This one is game.

Bad Prosecutor and Glitch despite having everything I agree with are on first impressions radar. I have ghigh hopes though.

So glad Love is for suckers and Cheer up are on Viki (US region).
Blocked the weekend for Glitch (not that I had any great plans :))

Yay, Bad Prosecutor is premiering this week? Totally tuning in...if I can find it on Netflix or Viki T_T And of course my girls force Glitch!

Might check out ENA's new drama but it really depends...and unless Cheer Up is as good as Sassy Go-Go, not my cup of tea.

Glitch HEAVILY pushing the Nana/Yeobeen pairing as the core of the show has me excited, they have great chemistry, and hopefully it means it will be a character piece and avoid the faults of most K-Sci-fi (nonsensical plotting, twists that don't make any sense except that they needed more episodes, etc.)
Helps that they look great together.

Will probably try Love is for Suckers and Cheer Up.

Can Kdramaland stop giving us more legal dramas? What’s happening in the drama land this year? I don’t know in which genre Love in the Moonlight is, but can’t we have something like that? Can next year be the year of greatness like what we had in 2016-2017? I’m tired of all violent, suspenseful, murder dramas.
