Falling in love with My Dearest’s Namgoong Min and Ahn Eun-jin

Stirring our hearts with another scenic teaser and posters for MBC’s My Dearest, the newest promos take us to the calm before the storm when love first sparked between our fated pair: Namgoong Min (One Dollar Lawyer) and Ahn Eun-jin (The Good Bad Mother).

The saguek melo starts in early 1600s Joseon, when the dark threat of the Qing Invasion was looming ahead in the near future. Our mysterious hero Lee Jang-hyun (Namgoong Min) had just moved into town and he inquires with interest, “That woman who lives in this village, who is she?”

She, of course, is our playful and flirty Yoo Gil-chae (Ahn Eun-jin) and she wastes no time asking if Jang-hyun has fallen for her. Jang-hyun can’t help but grin and he asks to spend some time with her out on the island. But Gil-chae rejects him, declaring that she’s waiting for destiny to bring her soulmate and that she’s going to marry the most impressive man.

In the sequence, we watch as their bantering relationship grows and Jang-hyun acts aloof, saying, “I decided long ago that I would live single and never marry.” When Gil-chae scoffs in response, Jang-hyun teases her, asking if she likes him.

Gil-chae replies honestly that, “What I want is to share an unwavering love with an unwavering person.” But she’s taken aback when Jang-hyun grows serious, asking, “Is that what you want?” We then end the trailer as Jang-hyun resumes his playful tone, telling Gil-chae she should come to him.

With writing by Hwang Jin-young (Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People) and directing helmed collaboratively by PD Kim Sung-yong (The Veil) and PD Chun Soo-jin, MBC’s My Dearest is slated to premiere on August 4 in the weekend slot.

I cant recall ever seeing Namgoong Min in a saguek or a straight up romance, maybe Beautiful Gong Shim but that drama..... well it existed.

Great to see him back on screen and in something different from his previous roles,

Ahn Eun-jin has been building quite a profile for herself too over the past few years, shes talented enough to hopefully be a top leading one day.

There was this drama called ‘The Undateables’ which was a romance. But yeah it’s best forgotten 😅

@soyesterday I’d recommend the first half of The Undateables quite easily. NM does a really nice job playing the romantic lead and it’s very interesting to watch him do it—because you’re right, it’s super-rare.

The drama suffers from second-half syndrome once our OTP gets it together, but up to that point, it’s worth it!

I'm getting excited too. And I really don't want to be. My recent-most, much hyped shows were a drop and a drag to the finish. Whereas I am loving the underdogs. However, these visuals, this premise and Namgoong Min. It's really hard not to... Sending out a prayer to the drama goddesses.

You guys this just might be the drama that summons all the feelings in my heart. Nam Goong Min is an incredibly talented actor and AEJ is very promising. I haven't seen a saguek that wasn't a fusion saguek other than Red Sleeve which i skipped major portions of, so I am pretty excited for this one

A very watchable saeguk indeed, with wars and beautiful sceneries. And yes, non-idols as saeguk leads

I am tentatively, timidly, getting excited. Please be good. I would like to get over my drama slump. It seems this will be on Viki (fingers crossed) so it means I might get to see it.

That last epic sageuks I watched were Nokdu Flower and My Country, both from 2019. I hope this one is good. I already brushed up on Qing invasion, King Injo, and tragic Prince Sohyeon.

It can be disheartening when well-made sageuks don't receive the ratings they merit, despite having a solid cast, skilled PD, and writers. Even though they may have been costly to produce, the question remains whether they are profitable.
I hope this turns out well, particularly for MBC.

The less palace politics the better, but the relationship chart indicates that he might be related to the royal family. With the name "Lee" Jang-hyun, he might be loosely based on someone from the royal house of Lee or a fictional one. I'm sure we'll have fun figuring it out like the characters in BOSSAM. Lol

8 days to My Dearest ^_^

This was supposed to be a fluffy romance story. What's with Nam Goong-min's last picture there? I'll simply prepare for the good, the bad, and the tears.
