[Drama chat] The drama you could watch 100 times

Thinking about drama classics and discussing “to watch or not to watch” brought up the question: what about the drama you’ll never ever get tired of watching? It could be old, it could be new, but it is constantly on replay as your K-drama home plate. Maybe it’s the first drama you saw and it reeled you in and has a special place in your heart that no other drama can replace. Or, maybe it’s a hidden gem drama that just hit you, and like a favorite book, you keep going back to that story and discovering more and more goodness.

For me, one such drama is Healer. Typical? Yes. But this drama does everything I love and gives me those warm and cozy hide-from-the-world-for-a-day vibes when I need them.

What’s the drama you could watch a hundred times, and why is it special to you?

I'm an inveterate rewatcher. This is because it takes me a while to get to know, love and commit myself to characters, but once I do, I'm in deep. In fact, I have something of a process when getting into a new show, where I'll pick at it a bit, then go away then come back and pick a bit more, until I start to get a bit committed to the characters, or it starts to hit some sweet spot. Or not, as the case may be. Then I'll go back and do a full rewatch and pick up everything I missed.

Sometimes the first look at a show, I'll think it's dross and then I'll fall madly in love with it and watch it a whole lot. Haha, this is currently happening with Boys Before Flowers. I am clearly completely bonkers.

Often I will get a thrill on a recurring rewatch, by imagining I'm watching it for the first time. I'll be following the camera up through some deserted warehouse, and then I'll be going, so who's this gorgeous sweaty guy playing virtual tennis, and snarking remotely with a middle-aged woman who knits?? What is this??

And I love rewatching, and starting to recognise favourite actors popping up all over the show....

Anyway, shows I've watched at least three times:
1. Crash Landing on You
2. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Ju
3. About Time
4. Healer
5. Vincenzo
6. Hospital Playlist 1 & 2
7. Suspicious Partner
8. Lovestruck in the City
9. Shooting Stars
10. Boys Before Flowers.... 💐

To lift my mood, I rewatch: Extraordinary attorney Woo, Gaus electronics, Mr Queen and Once upon a small town.

I also like rewatching:
- Love affairs in the afternoon for the poetry, the stellar acting of Park Ha Sun, the slow burn
- Because this is my first life until the 12th episode
- Do you like brahms for the romance between introverts and the music
- The red sleeve, for all the FL scenes

On a general note, I am massively impressed by the level of acting of Korean actresses and actors. Many times I find so much subtlety, depth and emotions in their performance.
As a result, I cannot watch any french show anymore as I find the acting rough and over-the-top in comparison! lol

that's how i feel too. korean actors just "stand there" but there's so much FEELING. meanwhile, american actors wit their giant blinding white teeth and overdone makeup and hair and it's grotesque by comparison!

*coffee prince * and *mr queen* i've seen twice.

*flower of evil* is my absolute favorite for so many reasons but i haven't been able to re-watch it bc it was so GOOD and intense!!

i'm also gearing up to rewatch *zombie detective* bc it's hilarious! i started rewatching *yumi's cells s1* but only bc it's so cute and cozy and the chemistry between the leads <3

“I think it gets harder to rewatch these days with so many drama offerings year round”, says the person who just rewatched Alchemy of Souls part 2 and is now on part 1, again.

the answer has to be HEALER. Just seeing the picture at the top of this post makes me want to queue it up!

Otherwise, I've also enjoyed rewatching Because this is my first life and the recent C-drama Meet Yourself. But Healer's my 100x winner.

I would watch these 3 classics anytime in a heartbeat. First being Dream High!! I love all the feels in that drama. Second would be Stairway to Heaven, my first kdrama that I fell in love it. And third one is My Girl with Lee Dong Wook. I still listen to the OST "Never say goodbye".

Lovers with Lee Seojin and Kim Jeungeun (and baby Kim Namgil)
Stars Falling From the Sky with Kim Jihoon and Choi Jungwon who should have had a longer career
You're Beautiful

Japanese
Old Fashion Cupcake
Cherry Magic
Todome no Kiss

Movies
Train to Busan
Kingdom I (Japanese)
Tokyo Revengers I (Japanese)

I've re-watched all of these multiple times, probably Train to Busan and Stars Falling the most. I go back to them whenever I'm disappointed by the ending of show or while hate-watching something or when nothing new appeals to me, which is my current state.

100 times is alot. I've lost count of how many times I've watched 'My Mister'. I've watched 'Misty' at least three times, 'Extraordinary You' perhaps five(?) times. 'The Producers' perhaps four. A surprising recent addition is 'Gaus Electronics'. I still laugh at the same joke and greatly appreciate the pitch-perfect ending. A wildcard is the Japanese comedy 'Kakafukaka' just because I'm an odd person.

If I like a show, I usually rewatch it. I'm a writer and editor, so I watch the first time to find out what happens, and the second time to figure out how they did it. (And I guess the other times because I miss the characters and/or how the drama made me feel.) My top rewatches, though, have got to include these:

W--Two Worlds
Crash Landing on You
Alchemy of Souls
Pinocchio
I Hear Your Voice

Also a few C dramas:

Love Between Fairy and Devil (the character transformation is amazing!)
Go Ahead
Mr. Bad (I know, it's fluffy and cute and a little illogical, but still)
Reset

I have a few comfort watches I like to return to after watching a more intense or sad drama. Sometimes there's nothing new that I care to watch so I return to favorite characters who feel like old friends. I like that I pick up on new details during a repeat watch: missed moments while reading subtitles; a better understanding after learning more about Korean culture; recognizing a reference to another drama I'd seen since; or just having learned a few more Korean words and phrases.

A few I've watched more than once (nowhere near 100x though!!):

Crash Landing on You - because this was my first Kdrama, my gateway drama

Secret Love Affair - because of the fantastic writing acting and music

Because This Life is our First - because of the friendships and the OTP (and the cat!)

Romance is a Bonus Book, Fight My Way, and Do You Like Brahms - because they are light, happy stories

Coffee Prince and Goblin because of Gong Yoo

And I will be rewatching A Time Called You because I loved it

It was fun to read this drama chat! This topic inspired over 200 comments. Apparently a lot of us enjoy a rewatch, and a few dramas appeared in multiple beanie favorites lists. Thanks @missvictrix and to all who shared!

Coffee Prince holds a special place in my heart. It's the drama that forced me to get Viki Plus because they only showed the first three episodes on Viki Standard! Maybe I love it so much because I watched it in the summer, which is when the drama takes place. I sweated right along with those enthusiastic young people opening a coffee shop. Their camaraderie and joy for life was infectious. It introduced me to many brilliant actors, including Lee Sun Kyun, Kim Young Ok, Kim Dong Wook, and Kim Jae Wook. Tearliner's music perfectly captured the mood of every scene. Yoon Eun Hye totally embraced her role as a young woman pretending to be a man. She was magnificient! I loved all of Gong Yoo's smitten glances. I think the beach scene is one of the best drama scenes I've ever watched -- the longing, angst, and torment is all in Gong Yoo's eyes, he never has to say a word. The blind date scene always makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I've watched it. Just writing all this makes me want to go back and watch it again!

Happy sunday to all you!
I have a little question regards 'Healer'
After to have read your posts in this thread I started seeing it and now I'm on episode 14
It's absolutely terrific! Jung-hoo and Young-shin are adorable and Ajumma...I love her (Kim Mi-kyung too)
I have just a hard time accepting that Moon-ho has always been in love with Myung-hee.
Had he been in love with her since he was a child, basically?
There will be at least 15 years difference between them
it's a drama, though...
it would have been more likely if Moon-ho had mended the relationship with Min-jae
I'm looking for the remaining episodes 8-D

I don't know yet if there's a drama out there I wouldn't ever get tired of, since I only recently started rewatching dramas, but I think if there is one, it might be the Jdrama We Married as a Job (Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu) followed by the Kdrama High School King of Savvy.

There wasn't a moment during We Married as a Job where I felt frustrated or disappointed or bored. The pacing of that drama is impeccable, the leads are perfect in their tender-hearted insecurities and introspectiveness, and everything happens exactly when it should exactly as it should. It's very satisfying.

High School King of Savvy has Seo In Guk in one of his most charming roles of all time, and I'm an unabashed fan of the female lead, and the whole thing is just so fun with all of its secret identity shenanigans and secret office romance. The age gap is obviously a concern, but I can suspend my disbelief around it because it's Seo In Guk playing the male lead and not someone younger. You also barely see him in school, which definitely helps.

I think for me, I enjoy Asian drama rewatches most if I'm not rewatching the same drama too closely together, giving me enough distance from the story to get to sort of rediscover it again. If I tried to watch a drama multiple times in a row, that might actually make me hate it, lol.
