I hope Twinkling Watermelon continues to climb, I would love it to get to 10 or above but that is probably asking too much.

Me too.

Wholesome dramas are in short supply in Asian dramaland as of late.

So when a good one comes along you cant help but root for its success

Looking the schedule posted on DB, is TW the only drama airing this Mon-Tues? That should surely help? Whereas the rest of the week looks packed.

Yes, I was surprised to see the tumbleweed at the start of the week but it may be a one or two week reprieve as there are a lot of new shows this month and they can’t all be on mid week or at the weekend. I remember reading somewhere that stations were moving away from putting dramas on certain nights due to low ratings but I am really hoping that this is not the reflection of that change in scheduling starting. It’s frustrating seeing a range of dramas I can’t watch due to the genre but seeing empty slots is depressing.

Wow, the jump for Twinkling W is nice. And good for The Kidnapping Day!

I hope my shows keep these numbers till the end. ^^

SGNSoon started strong. I have to catch up.

It was inevitable. The first one is still fresh in people's minds, and everyone is waiting for the cameo. I am afraid by the time the cameo happens, it would be too late to pull it out of the slump its bound to hit sooner than later.

I liked Strong Girl Nam Soon mostly because of the leads. I understand why there is a jump on the second episode. Hopefully it will continue to do well.

Its still early in its run but I expect LYOL to do better in ratings.

Although it was frustrating to only have one episode of Kidnapping Day this week, I am glad that this show is doing well also in SK. Seriously, more people should be watching this, truly an underrated gem of a show.

Looks like Hong-jo forgot to cast a good ratings spell for Destined With You. 🤣

Happy for Twinkling Watermelon, The Kidnapping Day and Strong Girl. 💪
May they all go from strength to strength.

For a weekender isn’t the rating on the lower side.

Kidnapping day 4%!!! Yay! So happy.

Strong girl - I hated the original strong woman so I didn’t expect to like this one. But surprisingly it was silly yet sweet. No bad jokes yet. I didn’t love it but there was something earnest about it that I watched both episodes. I like the mother and grandmom.

Yes you are right that there is something very earnest about the story. I like the FL very much. And her quest to find the family she lost.

Looking ahead to next week a bit, I can’t help but thinking that the upcoming weekend lineup is gonna be brutal…look at all those new, newish, and returning shows!

If many folks aren't watching shows compared to the past, I wonder what they're doing.

Seems like good karma of original series did pull the viewers to watch yet another STRONG WOMAN. Interesting. SWDBS peaked at 8-9%, right? JTBC upped their ratings game a lot since then, so to be seen as an equal hit NAM SOON will need to do more than that. Will she be strong enough? Stay tuned.

It had breached 10 at its peak (episode 8).

I was looking up Jung Ryeo Won today and it mentioned her breakthrough drama was Sam Soon which had ratings of 40-50%! Those were the days.. now, even breaking double digits is a monumental task, even for weekenders..

Actually, 2.2% is a big win for "My Lovely Boxer" seeing as it struggled to break 1% throughout its run.

Happy about "Twinkling Watermelon" because it deserves the love, but baffled at the high numbers for "Strong Woman." I deeply disliked the first episode, and not just because in one bit alone we got both fat and working mom shaming. Maybe the second one was considerably better?

On the other hand, the gender reversal of the marriage proposal which included the woman saying "I will protect you" to the man actually kept me watching the first episode, when I was about to shut it off after 5 minutes.

I was with @laurensophie on this one. What's going to be up with Strong Girl? Is it our new BYT--splitting the opinions of our little community?

I wasn't comparing this show with the instant classic that is Behind Your Touch; I was just noting that I enjoyed the making fun of the "I will protect you" line, which always makes me cringe when said by the ML.

But now that I think about it, one of my favorite parts of Strong Woman Bong Soon was the ending, where the beleaguered ML was struggling at home with two infants while the Strong Woman Mom was out having fun leaping around roofs. So I guess modeling appropriate gender roles in marriage is a strength of this series!

Yes, I know. I was just noting that you and @laurensophie had very different reactions. @minniegupta1 is also "meh," as am I...but I think I hear of quite a few others who are really excited. It's this aspect of BYT I was referring to--you might either love it, or really, um, not.

The sad thing is, they immediately inverted their own inversion in several ways. First, by making what could've been a fun love scene with a sexually dominating woman into a joke predicated on the man's feelings of fear (not desire) and assumption that the woman was just using him to get pregnant and maintain her bloodline anyway. Not to mention the fact that later we were treated to a scene of that same female character in a Catwoman suit riding a motorcycle which, on the surface, seems to be all about Girl Boss Power but was again undermined by the completely overdone and overtly feminine makeup, hair, and costuming for her, not to mention the attribution of her son's supposed weight problem to his mother's professional ambitions and overall lack of warmth and affection.

I realize the writers might *think* they wrote a story about female empowerment simply by virtue of the fact that the protagonists are female and they have tremendous physical strength, but they're just recycling the same tired old sexist tropes.

Plus, the show is just boring and trite.

Apologies to those who are enjoying it; life is short and if this show makes you happy don't mind me. But I really, really didn't like it.

I could not have said better. The entire Catsuit part channeling Natasha Romanoff without the panache is just cringeworthy.
In retrospection, the old show is looking more and more empowering.

@seon-ha I disliked the second episode even more than the first one. I have an issue with the messaging of the show to start with. It's shaming almost everything a woman does in various ways, but what is with a strong woman and a broken marriage?
If I may say so, the ML has absolutely no screen presence - apologies, I mean no disrespect to his fans, I am sure there are many out here - but right now, his competitions are Namkoong Min and Lee Min Ki, not to mention the verylong shadow and huge shoes of PHS - how is he going to hold up? The attempt to recreate the iconic Hwang In-youp style True Beauty moment in undies was so cringe that I had to close my eyes.
Then there is this problem with packaging the old wine in a CGI bottle - the gags are pretty much from Part 1, whether it is falling teeth (the same actor, awful), turning cars, stopping vehicles by sheer force or swanky hidden wardrobes (which was so much cooler with tremendous character in part 1) - same gags presented more stylishly.
And the more I see the new Strong Woman, the more I appreciate Park Bo Young. She brought out the immaturity of Bong Soon without making her look like a kindergartener or asinine.

Hmm. Actually, now I want to FF-watch the first two episodes to see how they do all this malarkey. Between your report and @laurensophie's, I can't imagine I'd have a different reaction...I just want to watch a little bit of the trainwreck.

Who knows, though?

For the weekend shows that did air the total viewership simply did not seem that high. LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE is not doing as well as a weekender should but one episode per week for three weeks in a row may have something to do with it as well as the home audience being aware that one of the actors (the one playing the Chairman) has died. This last may have a psychological effect that will hopefully fade over time.

4% for the kidnapping day? Good for them! ENA is a pretty new channel, right? So this is especially great numbers for them. I just wish their new drama Evillive had an international broadcaster... so far no one picked it up for streaming (checked a few days ago, maybe it changed?)
