Kim Yoo-jung signs a contract with Song Kang in My Demon

Fantasy romance My Demon over at SBS has released behind-the-scenes looks of its first script reading. The show stars Kim Yoo-jung (Lovers of the Red Sky) as a cold-hearted heiress who agrees to a contract marriage with Song Kang (Forecasting Love and Weather), a demon who recently lost his powers. Besides our two beautiful leads, plenty of familiar and talented faces fill out the rest of the cast, promising strong performances all around.

Kim Yoo-jung plays Do Do-hee, an heiress to Mirae Group with a cold personality and cynical outlook on love. She learned from a young age the order of the world and is described as a “salt latte” type of person: prickly but soft, delicate yet strong. Do-hee is against the idea of marriage, but that all changes when she signs a contract with a demon.

In the role of the perfect and deadly demon Jung Gu-won is Song Kang, and like his leading lady, he is also a firm believer in singledom. For the last 200 years, Gu-won spent his life as an apex predator, feeding off of human souls, but the moment he gets entwined with Do-hee, his powers suddenly disappear. In order to avoid extinction, he must protect her at all cost, and along the way, he finds himself changing, as well.

No K-drama romance would be complete without its second leads, and stepping into the role of CEO of Mirae Investments Joo Seok-hoon is Lee Sang-yi (Han River Police). He is the nephew of the founder of Mirae Group and the only person Do-hee feels kinship towards, so when Gu-won appears by her side, something inside him starts to stir.

On the demon side of things, Jo Hye-joo (The Secret Romantic Guesthouse) plays Jin Ga-young, the human companion to Gu-won. A dancer with a talent for dual sword-wielding, she believes Gu-won saved her life and is unhappy with Do-hee’s unannounced presence.

Delving deeper into Mirae group, at the head of the conglomerate is founder Joo Cheon-sook played by Kim Hae-sook (Strong Girl Nam-soon). Unable to trust her own children, she treats Do-hee specially, but in reality, she hides a big secret.

Playing Cheon-sook’s eldest son and CEO of Mirae Electronics Noh Seok-min is Kim Tae-hoon (My Dearest), and at his side is his wife and Director of Mirae Electronics Kim Sae-ra played by Jo Yeon-hee (One Dollar Lawyer). The nepotism continues, though, with their only son Noh Do-kyung — played by Kang Seung-ho (Tracer) — acting as the GM of Mirae Electronics and described as a two-faced person.

In the role of Cheon-sook’s second daughter and CEO of Mirae Apparels Noh Soo-ahn is Lee Yoon-ji (Mimicus). A mother of twins, she appears elegant but reverts back to her original personality around her kids.

Finally, rounding out the cast is Do-hee’s right-hand person Secretary Shin played by Seo Jung-yeon (My Lovely Liar), and Gu-won’s first contract Park Bok-kyu played by Heo Jung-do (The Deal). Secretary Shin knows what Do-hee is thinking from just her eyes, while Bok-kyu acts as Gu-won’s helper all thanks to a deal he made with him 200 years ago.

Directed by PD Kim Jang-han (You Raise Me Up, Do You Like Brahms) and written by Choi Ah-il (Mr. Queen), SBS’s My Demon premieres on November 24 in the weekend slot.

It sounds like it is going to be interesting, with potential for humour and warmth in some of the relationships. Lets hope the second leads and company politics are not front and centre for most of the drama.

I will still try this because of Kim Yoo Jung and Song Kang. Also I like the supporting actors. The setup feels very familiar especially with the potential chaebol family drama. But the fantasy romcoms I have seen this year were average at best. I do not count TW to that since its not yet over. I hope this will fare better.

I think I’ve now read and seen enough good things to give this one a go. Any kind of fantasy romance is my jam (provided no leading characters are annoying enough to drive me from the room), and it doesn’t come out til the end of November, so I might actually have time by then!

@dncingemma Could I ask you double-check that I just semi-got my first joke in Korean? When Lee Sang-yi introduces himself (at timestamp 35s or so) does he not say something like, "I'm Lee Sang-yi and that is all (이상입니다)," a phrase that contains the sounds of his name?

Is that even close?

@attiton

That is "scary", it's sad that no one is trying to help her.

It looks like a fun modern fantasy. It's not really like we were missing this theme in 2023, but I love Kim Yoo-Jung!

My question is why are they so white? At this stade, they almost look sick... I hope the PD didn't use a filter on the actors' face.

Too many characters ... boo.
I like the idea of "A dancer with a talent for dual sword-wielding".

"A dancer with a talent for dual-sword wielding" If I wasn't sold already, I'd be sold now. Too bad she'll probably be relegated to bitchy second female lead.

The extensive cast for different company people worries me because I really don't want boring chaebol politics to infiltrate my fantasy romcoms, but I suppose I can tolerate it in small doses if they don't overwhelm the story.

Thats my worry as well. Her side of the family is extensive so there is bound to be chaebol family drama and politics included.

So we have a decent plot premise, a good writer, a good PD, Kim Yoo-jung........

All the ingredients are there for a very good show. I am looking forward to this one.
