Kim Yoo-jung meets My Demon Song Kang in the rain

The first teaser has landed for SBS’s new fantasy rom-com My Demon, where fate brings Kim Yoo-jung (Lovers of the Red Sky) and Song Kang (Forecasting Love and Weather) together in matrimony, to love and to cherish until death the contract do them part.

Playing a classic chaebol archetype, our heroine Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo-jung) is described as cold, prickly, and distrustful of others. But her personality and cynicism were shaped by her experiences growing up, always being treated like an alien in the Mirae Group, despite being an heiress to the conglomerate.

Do-hee’s heart is now guarded by fortress walls, but as we’re shown in the new teaser, even Do-hee isn’t immune to the all powerful magic of K-dramas. With pretty flowers and soft rain setting the atmosphere, our leads meet under the umbrella to stare endlessly into each other’s eyes. This can only mean luuvvv.

Although our hero Jung Gu-won (Song Kang) looks human, he’s actually a trickster demon and has been gluttonously preying off human souls for the last 200 years. But something goes awry when Gu-won encounters Do-hee and his demon powers disappear. The events then lead to our story’s contract relationship as Gu-won tries to restore his powers and prevent his own extinction.

Sadly for me, I’m probably going to sink on the second lead ship with the series also starring Lee Sang-yi (Han River Police). As the free-spirited and kind Joo Seok-hoon, CEO of Mirae Investments, Seok-hoon is the only person that Do-hee trusts within the greater Mirae Group.

Directed by PD Kim Hang-han (You Raise Me Up, Do You Like Brahms) with scripts by Choi Ah-il (Mr. Queen), SBS’s My Demon is slated to premiere on November 24, taking over the weekend slot following 7 Escape: War for Survival.

Too much pretty in one scene!!

I do not think I have seen KYJ as a chaebol princess yet. I do hope, being a trickster demon, there must be something else that is entailed in that contract marriage aside from getting his powers back. And preying off human souls for 200 years must make him evil right? There must be something to make him likeable.

I like KYJ and I mostly tolerate SK, so hopefully it is good.

Don’t be sad, @ttcolb, be happy! SLS is not a disease, it’s a way of life. You just have to snuggle down in it like a big fluffy blanket on a cold winter’s night. 🧐

I know both of these people are in pretty much everything, but somehow I haven't seen either of them in anything, so I get to go in with no expectations. I like this kind of story, so hopefully it's not just another Kkokdu.

2023 is the year of fantasy and I'm here for it! Chaebol princess meets trickster demon?! It's giving me slight Doom at Your Service vibes - sign me up 🙋‍♀️

Another one to try out @hopefulromantic??

Yes I'm putting it into the Maybe pile!! I'm not really a fan of the ML, but the premise sounds promising...

Ok, @lapislazulii, I just watched the teaser, and - sparse as it is - I'm now like, "hmmm YES." 😂 I can't promise I'll stay until the end, but I'll definitely try it!!!

YAY!! We'll have to see how it goes - I'm neutral with Song Kang, I've liked him in some things and the ones where I haven't, it's usually because I've also not liked the entire show hahaha. BUT like you, premise + KYJ has me putting my name down for the first week at least - let's hope this one delivers ALL of what we're wanting out of a good fantasy, before the year ends!

Kim Yoo-jung being cold and prickly!? That may last about 30 seconds if she can do it at all.

FWIW, she's one of my least favorite actresses, partly because I got tired of he being positive/spunky/cheerful all the time but mostly because the first 800,000 times I saw her she was playing the downtrodden kid who would grow up to be played by someone who would right those wrongs, and I've just never liked those childhood-and-time-skip shows.

I'll go hide now.

Her best roles have been in melodramas, Flames of Desire, May Queen, etc. Transitioning to adult roles is a bitch for these child actors. They still look the same from 15 years ago.
I get tired of the same old same old, too. She is not as good at picking roles as Park Eun-bin and Nam Ji-hyun.

You are not allowed to hide. There is only one Lord Cobol out there!

I love her to pieces, so don't shoot me, LOL.
That goes for all the 1990-2000 child actors. It's a sentimental thing, plus most of them are talented.

I've disliked many of Kim Yoo-jung's recent dramas (Lovers of the Red Sky was awful and Clean With a Passion for Now was so boring) and Song Kang is incredibly good-looking yet terribly bland, so normally I would just ignore this one. But I love both the writer and PD! Brahms and Mr. Queen are on my List of Top 5 dramas of all time. That means I can't not check it out. Please be good, drama!

"Song Kang is incredibly good-looking yet terribly bland" - very well put.
I too want to check it out for the same reason as you - writer and PD.
Something makes me feel this may just be Song Kang's best yet. 🤞

Woah. That's Song Kang? I saw the teaser on Twitter earlier, and I thought he looked familiar.

Didn't realize he lost weight and maybe plastic surgery? He looks like Lee Jae Wook now (or a kpop idol), build wise.

I think he's lost a lot of weight, it sharpens his features.

It does seem like it.

And maybe it's required for his demon character.

I love Lee Sang-yi, but age-appropriate-wise and visual compatibility-wise, I won't have second lead syndrome.

That's a good point. I forgot for a moment about the significant age-gap between him and Kim Yoo-jung. It's good to find more reasons for me to not root for him.

Kim Yoo-Jung and a fake marriage, I will have to watch!

I hope this time, they will focus on her, because in Lovers of the Red Sky, the show was great when it focused on her and painting and lost all interest when it focused on Ha-Ram... She was far better than AHS and had a better chemistry GM...

This is the best hairstyle I've ever seen him with. Hmmm. Would've still prefer this premise with different - more mature both in visuals and skills - leads. Chaebol heirs this young? What for?)))

I know the struggle. I get that she wants to do more mature roles since she's been stuck playing teens for ages, but this has not one, but multiple tropes that feel too early for her.

Lee Sang-yi is the second male lead?? It is so over for me. That said, he is a CEO, so I might just end up rooting for the trickster demon even if he's portrayed by my less favourite actor (no shade to Song Kang - I just have my preferences).

after all the Korean content I've watched, I've yet to see KYJ in *anything*, so I'm looking forward to seeing her in this.

wow Song Kang looks do different! and, er, will I be able to root for his character, considering his profession?

KYJ is not just pretty, but talented - and an experienced, dedicated professional. But many people want to dismiss her as simply a former child actress, forgetting that what that really means is that she has more actual experience than most actresses who are ten years older.

To get an idea as to how good she actually is you can actually make a direct comparison between her lead character in the original K-drama CLEAN WITH PASSION FOR NOW (one of her first 'adult' roles) and her Chinese counterpart in its Chinese re-make, which can be found on Netflix. The Chinese version is not bad but very much suffers by comparison.

After reading the synopsis, I am reminded (haha) of something I posted moments ago on Destined with You finale review: In the 2023 era, so-called fantasy dramas seem to rely too much on OTP/cinematography/CGI and not enough on the overall story, including the development of side-characters and side-stories. Coherence in a fantasy drama seems to be a thing of the past. So, demon-who-eats-souls? I'll wait to read recaps and see if it breaks the current incoherent plots of recent fantasy dramas.

They look so pretty together! Song Kang looks so much better with this longer hairstyle. I'm not sure if I can buy him as the "trickster demon". His eyes always look so solemn.
