Premiere Watch: Tell Me That You Love Me

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Melo, romance, human
Episode count: 16

Reasons to watch: Though Tell Me That You Love Me has lacked a lot of global marketing due to some heavy, ill-conceived geo-blocking, the hints that we have seen are lovely indeed. In the drama, Jung Woo-sung (in his return to dramaland) is a hearing impaired artist who meets aspiring actress Shin Hyun-bin. It will likely be a moving love story, and with PD Kim Yoon-jin of Our Beloved Summer directing, I can’t help but think it’s a perfect fit. (If you watched Our Beloved Summer and remember that evocative gallery sequence that was captured in black and white, I’m gunning for more of that style here to tell our story.)

TL;DR: This drama looks like a lovely breath of air in what has been a rather chaotic drama cycle of marriage contracts, revenge, water rescues, rebirths, and re-dos.

Pros: THE Jung Woo-sung's return to dramaland in twelve years (Delayed Justice doesn't count)

Cons: ...paired with Shin Hyun-been who should never be cast in romances

wait, has Shin Hyun-bin acted in romances before? I've only seen her in Reborn Rich but she didn't really make an impression one way or another.

I have only ever seen SHB in Hospital Playlist. Inliked her character there but I have not seen her in other dramas after. Hopefully she fares better here.

Finally something to watch that's entering my Mon-Tues slot.
The Matchmakers is really fun but I'm only following with the recaps, for now.

The show reminds me of the Silence (jdrama). Not only do they deal with the same topic, they also have the similar vibe.

On an unrelated note, I am impressed ENA had enough money to book Jung Woo Sung for a 16 episode drama.

Ahhh, the wonderful “Silent”. All too short as I wanted to watch many more episodes. I hope “TMTYLM” will be as resonant and moving.

But can you imagine Shin Hyunbin even for a moment being as likable and warm and lovely as Kawaguchi Haruna?

I read somewhere that Jung Woosung had acquired the rights to this drama 13 years ago. It took him this long to bring this story to the Korean audience, and I should trust his judgment in casting. But I can’t. Shin Hyunbin is one of those could-be-anybody actors: serviceable without any spark.

Kawaguchi Haruna was just so wonderful. I love “Silent” to pieces and often watch my favourite parts. Am being a broken record but how I wish it was much longer. We was robbed!🥰😂😊

It is his drama? Did not expect that, but it explains a lot....or not, I am surprised he needed that long to get the ball rolling. I imagine the broadcasts were dying to cast him.

I am a Kawaguchi Haruna stan but Shin Hyun-bin is really killing it in this drama (so far), both in the acting and visuals department. I need to watch the rest of her filmography.

Thanks. Has this already started? I have to try and find this too.

If you liked Silent, you should also try "Koi Desu! Yankee-kun to Hakujou Garu"! tho it's more of a shoujo romcom. very wholesome & moving tho.

Oh I really loved that one. The male lead was so good as a clumsy gangster with a pure heart, and the female lead was so charming. Have you watched Hoshi Furu Yoru ni with the exquisite Yoshitaka Yuriko? Who also played a blind woman in the movie Your Eyes Tell.

and See Hear Love with Yamashita Tomohisa. It is soft-melo and a very nice watch.

Well, this is an adaptation of a much older Japanese drama. Japan likes to make a story about people with disabilities (usually blindness or deafness) every 5 years so, with quality that often varies in terms of storytelling and intent. in between tragic dramas/movies about ppl with terminal illness ofc, tho that trend is dying off.

I don't see it on Hulu at this point, hoping Disney+ will let it be on Hulu so US views can watch.

Disney+ is abysmal in my region when it comes to the “Coming Soon” notification.

Let's not forget our resident beanie @welh640 who took a walk to the filming location in Seoul... so I don't know if this beanie would be part of extra for claim to fame. Let's see if this beanie would be appear in this Kdrama or not.

Its good to have another potential Mon-Tues drama. I will watch the first two episodes to see if this is for me. Well, that is after I get caught up on my weekend dramas I am falling behind on.

This drama is giving me a lot of A Piece of Your Mind vibes. Like the production quality, the cinematography, the music, the pacing…

every scene in this drama looks like a painting or an artsy photo the ML would take. Like, the budget for this must be high as hell. The cinematography is gorgeous, the production value is insane. Everything looks so sleek and polished.

Their smiles when they saw met again could light up a city. 🥹

Wow, that was such an amazing first episode. I enjoyed this premiere even more than My Demon, tho it's diff genres. Just top to bottom, amazing work from everyone.

I agree with everything you said Dylan.
It is really understated in a way, simple yet beautiful.
I love the tone of the show and it's so different to anything else right now.
The male lead is amazing, you need someone of high calibre to pull this off and he is just ...wow.
This is going to rip my heart to shreds but I'm looking forward to it. 😅
