Premiere Watch: The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: MBC
Genre: Rom-com, timeslip, fantasy
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: There are no shortage of marriage contracts in our current and upcoming dramas this season, and this one is a doozy (but aren’t they all). In The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract, our Joseon heroine Lee Se-young is transported to present-day Seoul where she encounters the doppelgänger of her deceased husband in the form of Bae In-hyuk. Naturally, he’s a cold and nasty chaebol heir. Naturally, a marriage contract is in order. And you know what else is in order? Bae In-hyuk getting a drama he deserves after his scene-stealing in My Roommate is a Gumiho.

TL;DR: Joseon heroine wandering present-day Seoul (*please be Queen In-hyun’s Man in reverse!*)

Yup, gonna check this out. I feel like I might be getting sageuk fatigue soon and it seems like there are a lot of them or elements of them in recent dramas. BUT I like the extra angst/emotions in the story here due to the past.

Glad to see Yoo Sun Ho! Hope he plays a fun character.

Only 12 episodes? No time to get bored.

MBC is promoting it since Mathusalem, so I'm happy we will finally get it!

Is 12 the new standard ?
I think it makes for better dramas because they don’t have those 4 extra episodes to mess with the plot. 😂

I don't know. For me, it depends about the writer.

Some dramas have 16 episodes and still mess the ending by rushing things or some have a lot of fillers or a last plot like break up, travelling, etc. that doesn't make sense.

The dreaded 2nd half drama collapse !!
Shameless in their use of fillers .
12 may be a financial decision
Along the way they discovered that they can produce a decent drama with 12 episodes if they tighten up the story.

I dont mind fillers if they give us cute scenes between the leads. I don't need murder or separation, etc. But when the leads become a couple in the 5 last minutes, it's kinda frustrating.

shorter dramas tend to have more streamlined writing, imo, but we do get duds every so often. like the ghost taxi one for example.

Its almost here!!!
Bae In Hyuk was definitely a scene stealer in Gumiho. But I did like him better in his follow up projects, Under the Queen's Umbrella and Cheer Up.

Oh, wasn't he the lead in My Roommate? I thought I'm waiting for season 2 for him to come back from the States and woo his girl. No? My mistake then. 😌
(I will still rewatch the show againand ff all other male's scenes and imagine my own show, mistake or not.😌)

Time travel and contract marriages seems to the theme for 2023. Even Thai dramas are doing it.

I wonder what the TV stations were thinking when they scheduled this one and My Demon to air on the same days at the same time? They will obviously eat into each other's ratings.

oh, any good time travel and contract marriages from Thailand recently?

speaking of time travels, the currently airing jdrama "Don't Waste Time, Lovers" is also really good!

There's a Thai BL with time travel that concluded recently and I absolutely loved - I Feel You Linger In The Air. It's a sweet, tender love story set in 1920s Thailand. There's another ongoing time travel BL called Absolute Zero.

There's also a lakorn (Thailand's makjang) called The Wedding Contract that also concluded recently. I haven't watched it though.

This happens most times not with just kdramas, even other language dramas and movies. I assume that there would be agents to gather information and trade them between networks. So, we see similar themes during a season. It is best to pit them against other and get average ratings than to air one after another because the network/drama that telecasts late will always be unfairly compared to the one aired first.

You learn something new everyday! Yes, the first one to air does get advantage.

[drops Moon in the Day like a hot potato]

The cast, premise, short run time, and promos all look promising. Fingers crossed. Is it Friday yet?

the drama I'm most looking forward to this season. I'll even look past the mandatory past-lovers-in-Joseon stuff. deep down, I guess we all want another Queen In-hyun's Man T-T

Same comment for as My Demon -
I will be happy if it's mediocre or ecstatic if its brilliant.
After all this hype, please dont be disappointing.
Please kdrama gods, let the back end of this year deliever a few good shows.

If we can get a couple of decent dramas towards the end of the year it would be well worth it. 😄

@missvictrix IMO, Bae In Hyuk shined in My Roommate is a Gumiho (MRIAG) because he was a better actor than the ML (Jang Ki Yong). I watched BIH in "Why Her" after MRIAG and he was equally bland as Hwang In Yeop, but most of it is the fault of the writing which was horrible. I hope TSOP'sMC drama will be a good test of his skills as a romantic lead.

Anyway, I caught the first episode and I was bored by the storytelling. Usually, I am all for quirky FL's who desire and strive for women's independence, but I wasn't impressed by her personality or her discreet job. It can't help but compare her to the FL in The Matchmakers who was instantly likeable. I would like to read other beanies opinion after they catch a glimpse of the modern skirt that was worn by the King's daughter. It was fugly and blatant use of anachronism that had me going "Ehhh" instead of "Wow".

Yeah, I know nothing about fashion, but even I guessed that no one would be impressed by that skirt dress thing IRL.

Matchmakers came first, so I think our opinion of yet another Joseon noblewoman who sneaks out and does a clandestine job is coloured by sheer charm Cho Yi-hyun embues in her role.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed the first episode of this less than the premiere of My Demon. I understand they had to do a lot of setting up out of necessity, but at some point I just wanted them to cut to the time travel already. Anyways, hopefully the second episode will be better now that the plot's starting...

that poor ahjumma from My Lovely Liar. always doomed to play the shrill, deranged mom.

Why Bae In Hyuk has to die in first ep?🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️...a bad reminder of Under Queen's Umbrella.
I am totally hook with this drama. LSY is always great in sageuk drama, and the mashup did not fail when the transition happen.

I love overall casting in this drama, please soaring high Park's Marriage 🙏🤞

Omo what is this monstrosity that Yoo Seon-ho appears to be wearing. Is his suit encrusted with random shiny black stones. 🤮
