Honey Lee moonlights as the masked heroine in Knight Flower

MBC’s upcoming sageuk-comedy Knight Flower has dropped another teaser of its moonlighting masked heroine played by the charming and funny Honey Lee (One the Woman). During the day, our heroine pretends to be a dutiful widow, but as soon as night falls, she springs into action.

While a woman screams for help, Jo Yeo-hwa (Honey Lee) takes out her sword to accomplish what must be done. Dressed in all black, our crime-fighting heroine takes down a room full of enemies, but things take a turn (quite literally) when she spins in the arms of officer Park Su-ho, played by Lee Jong-won (The Golden Spoon).

Her safely guarded double life is now at risk, and it appears that Su-ho is out to expose her secret. As Yeo-hwa escapes with a little girl, she chucks her shoe at Su-ho and orders him to stop following her. Our strait-laced officer, though, believes that rules exist for a reason and will stop at nothing to catch her.

The chase begins between our two leads, and Yeo-hwa haughtily claims that she won’t be caught so easily. However, the moment she lays eyes on Su-ho’s abs, her tune changes, and Yeo-hwa fans herself to no avail.

Though Yeo-hwa’s servants warn her against these nighttime escapades, she continues jumping over walls and almost gets caught by her father-in-law Kim Sang-joong (The Banker). Despite the dangers, Yeo-hwa seems intent on maintaining this ruse as she dons a mustache and vows to show how threatening she can be. Of course, life doesn’t always go as planned, and from the way Yeo-hwa carries a punctured bag, wipes ink on her face, and tumbles on the ground, she appears equal parts badass and clumsy.

Directed by PDs Jang Tae-yoo (Lovers of the Red Sky), Choi Jung-in (On the Verge of Insanity), and Lee Chang-woo, with scripts written by Lee Saem and Jung Myung-in, MBC’s Knight Flower is slated for twelve episodes and will premiere on January 12 in the Friday-Saturday slot.

I hope I'll finish at least one MBC sageuk. Is it necessary for every Joseon widow main character to have a romantic interest?

Her husband died on their wedding day and she has been a widow for many years (more than 10 years?). I'm not sure because I didn't find this information, but maybe they didn't even have time to consummate their marriage, so FL didn't have much love in her life. She deserves something from life. If she got married, it may mean that she was looking for love in her life, but fate deprived her of it.

During the Joseon era, arranged marriages were common practice, but they were not always a happy experience for women. The marriage of the prime minister's daughter-in-law was likely politically motivated. The ban on remarriage for widows was covered in the last 2 Joseon sageuks.
Sneaking out at night like a female version of Robin Hood must have brought her some joy.

Since she is a free-spirited person, it is even more possible that she could fall in love with someone "inappropriate" from the point of view of her social position. I think it will suit the heroine in this story.

This is going to have to work hard to compete with the fun and undercover antics we enjoyed in The Matchmakers but if it is on a similar level it will be a fun watch.

First time the female in disguise at least tried to adjust their look to be more like an adult male.

There definitely seems some method in the madness. Also I just love Honey Lee who has proved she can effortlessly carry a drama on her shoulders.

True "tried" is the best way to put it since she still looks really cute with that mustache

Promising sign this might actually deliver the comedy: you can hear a crow cawing while she reminisces about the abs. *eyebrow dance*

Hanee's widow also has the Left State Councilor as her father-in-law. Coincidence much..
What is with Left State Councilor and their widow daughter-in-laws?

Availability angst. I still cannot find an announced legal US stream for MBC’s F/S drama FLOWER THAT BLOOMS AT NIGHT aka KNIGHT FLOWER. Episode one airs in 2 weeks.

For inquiring minds: In Korean, abs are “복부” (pogbu), pronounced with a soft ‘gh’. Now you know!

I usually follow favorite actors/actresses to new dramas and I have no idea who any of these actors are (they don't show up on my list of watched dramas). However, after a year of what seemed like cookie-cutter rom-coms, most of which I dropped mid-way simply because there wasn't anything truly unique about their overall plots. . . .this looks like a winner.

Just an aside, but I wonder if the production person (costume designer) responsible for Lee Jong-won’s hanbok in the first pic up there is the same person responsible for Shin Hyun-soo’s hanbok/costuming in BOSSAM: STEAL THE FATE (2021)? If it is he is in very good hands.

This looks sooo wacky and funny, I'm curious! Haven't seen Honey Lee in a long time.

And another 12-episode drama. Is this a new trend? o:

Less risk for the producer if the drama does not have a high rating. Better chances of selling the drama on streaming platforms that prefer short dramas.
