One of the pillars of Korean society has been health (along with education, wealth, and status). Health was a virtue and requirement for productivity in the historical context of a poverty level agricultural society. People with poor health were not productive and shunned in society. This virtue carried over into the quickly modernized culture of current Seoul. But times are slowly changing, for one strange but logical reason.

Nearly half of the youth population residing in Seoul now live in poverty, with many seeking financial support from their parents, according to a new study released by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Seoul Institute.

According to the 2022 Seoul Young Adult Panel Study, 55.6 percent of the youth population in Seoul faced asset poverty, meaning that they lack sufficient liquid assets to cover their basic needs for three months. If you connect the dots, it makes sense that this week South Korea rolled out a comprehensive plan to offer mental health checkups every two years for young Koreans aged 20 to 34 and other counseling services tailored to all age groups to detect warning signs early on, in the first-ever detailed state policy aimed at tackling the country’s consistently high suicide rates and mental health issues.

Korea has recorded the highest suicide rate among member nations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development for almost 20 years, with 25.2 deaths per 100,000 people in 2022, more than double the OECD average of 10.6 deaths per 100,000 people.
Nearly 40,000 South Koreans took their own lives over the past three years, with the suicide rate increasing among younger people, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency reported.

President Yoon stressed the significance of having good mental health for the country’s future growth, reflecting on the swiftly declining national birth rate. SK government is clearly panicking over the prospect of the birth rate continuing to fall. That is the real reason for the new health program: poor, depressed, underemployed, lacking self-esteem or self-work youth are not likely to marry and have children to replace the aging population (which for the first time has the most workers in their 50s).

40 000? Damn, that's heartbreaking :(

I think poverty is increasing worldwide and birth rates will continue to fall because of it and because of changing social pressure to get married and have children (also expensive).

This explains why suicide is a major theme or is at least present in so many K-Dramas :(

You bring up something that I was thinking in terms of the dramas I’ve watched this year—that they have been particularly dark in terms of family, and especially men in the family. In fact I was thinking that the theme of this years shows has been "Horrible Husbands, Despicable Dads, and Failed Families”, because of the number of shows that centered child abuse, domestic abuse, and brutally bad marriages. This child abuse theme started from the first show I watched this year—Crash Course in Romance; then a show airing at the same time, Trolley, had a murderer father and rapist husband as the star; AND then Lies Hidden in My Garden featured two even more vicious abusing and murdering husbands. Meanwhile, there was Glory--a feel good show, because it mostly featured brutalistic teens—but it too had an abusing Mom. Child abuse and terrible marriages were central to the spring shows I dropped—Strangers Again, Divorce Lawyer Shim, and Good Bad Mother, and also the ones I never started -Dr. Cha.

Although not the main theme, terrible marriages were the only marriages depicted in Bora Deborah, King the Land, and Destined With You, although I guess we were supposed to assume that KTL and DWU couples would have a happy marriage. The serial killer in Perfect Stranger was the Dad. Delightfully Deceitful centered on abused gifted children; so I think did Kidnapping Day, a show I didn't watch although that apparently had a loving Dad (but maybe with a terrible spouse?). Recently, we had Castaway Diva, which I dropped, but I saw enough of to know that its main theme was child abuse. Upcoming is Marry My Husband, My Happy Ending, and Maestra which, by their description, all seem to feature treacherous if not murderous husbands. I enjoyed Perfect Marriage Revenge, because I think it was kind of making fun of this overall trend, since it had a perfect marriage as revenge against a murderous Mom. Still, it did have the humorously played murdering Mom, the impotent Dad, and then threw in a vicious half-brother in the ML's family.

I get that infidelity, childhood trauma, violent family conflict, and bad marriages have been themes in popular culture world wide, almost since time immemorial. Also I know well that psychological trauma is the mainstay of the vast majority of kdramas. But it does seem that this year the bad family relationships were particularly present. Do you think that represents the trend in Korea and in other countries of people, especially women, rejecting marriage as too exploitative and constraining, and parenthood as irresponsible and difficult in a tumultuous world? Or is this making too much of the theme of these shows? Am I seeing as a trend something that has just always been there?

Don't even get me started on The Kidnapping Day!! There were no shortage of horrible dads and moms and dysfunctional families and manipulative spouses.

@hacja I think what we can consider here are the screenwriters - about 90% of K-Drama screenwriters are women.

And with the brutal battle the feminists are fighting against South Korea's patriarchy right now by taking the Lysistra route (no dating, no sex, no marriage, no children with men), I'm not surprised that K-Dramas are lifting the lid on abusive behaviour in relationships and family, especially abusive and violent men. This is part of how K-Dramas reflect what's going in SK - the flip side of how the non-toxic Oppa MLs in them signpost what women wish we had in the men around us.

This is especially true of K-Dramas made from 2016 onwards once the #MeToo movement exploded across the world including SK.

Having said that, I don't think what K-Drama has done is anything less dark than all the dysfunctional families in Western dramas and movies. SUCCESSION, for example, has a cast of characters that are all so awful I don't know why so many people adore that show. K-Dramas, thankfully, rarely have shows where the entire cast of characters are so toxic you get a bad taste in your mouth after watching just 10 minutes of it.

I've been watching dramas for years and I'm still shocked by the frequency of suicide plots (and the range of methods). Not to mention the lack of any trigger warnings, considering the depictions are rarely subtle and leave very little to the imagination. Maybe even more shocking is how few beanies ever talk about this...

Also these plots occur across all genres, settings and target demographics. Which says a lot.

I have noticed that suicide is an evergreen theme/trope across K-Dramas, C-Dramas, and J-Dramas because it's cultural (we don't see it as much in Western dramas and movies at all).

However, the subject is treated and presented in very different ways depend on if it's C-Drama, K-Drama, or J-Drama because the way each culture sees suicide is differs in a number of ways/contexts:

- In Japan, certain forms of ritual suicide (seppuku/harakiri) is tolerated. For example: Samurais committing harakiri to save themselves from disgrace. It is a matter of preserving honour in untenable situations (https://japantoday.com/category/features/opinions/the-complicated-concept-of-suicide-in-japan)

- Many Chinese festivals commemorate the traumatic death of some paragon of virtue. For example, the Dragon Boat festival honours the patriot Qu Yuan who committed suicide by drowning when his emperor did not take his advice and ended up having to surrender his state to the enemy. (https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/the-legends-behind-the-dragon-boat-festival-135634582/)

- In Korean culture, conversely, suicide is highly stigmatised (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35332850/) So it's no wonder we see dramas like TOMORROW talking about suicide as a heavy sin.

I must confess that because I'm from one of the East Asian cultures, when there's any suicide theme, it doesn't trigger me because it's so common a trope in our storytelling across the region for as long as I can remember. So to me it's unremarkable.

Though taken within the context of the high rate of suicides in South Korea and Japan now, it brings home the fact that the dramas should handle it better and not treat it like a plot widget. And I think that's where TOMORROW shines - having a squad of Grim Reapers tasked with preventing suicides.

I do watch cdramas and the occasional jdrama. From what I've seen, it's only kdramas where there will be a suicide subplot in even the fluffiest romance.

At some point I did get desensitised but then you think, 'should this really be casualised?'

I'm not the kind of person who wants trigger warnings for every little thing but I do think the country with the highest suicide rate could benefit from TWs when suicide ideation gets glorified so often on their small screen. It's very problematic to people who may be on the brink.

1

A friend of Korean descent also explained to me the cultural roots of suicide as an ultimate form of contrition and apology. It isn’t only confined to SK but for instance of relevance to Japan too. This is one of those instances where cultural beliefs and practices should not be regarded as immutable. They must change to accommodate a different way of thinking about and acting on sorrow, desperation and grief. South Korea cannot afford to lose any of its citizens.

This is what I have understood:-

1. FL's husband died within one year of their wedding due to bad health.

2. ML married the princess who died during the wedding ceremony. She was poisoned by the FL's MIL and FIL.

3. A spinster was killed by MIL's brother and it was declared suicide. The same jerk then created a rumour that the dead girl's spirit had possessed HaNa and made her boy-crazy.

4. The palace guard who procured the poison for MIL-FIL and also tried to kidnap the CP was murdered by them to keep their secret buried.

5. The poison procured by this palace guard was consumed by the palace maid on MIL's instructions and she is now in a coma.

6. FL's BIL (husband's older brother) and his wife were killed by the FIL coz the BIL was gay and in a relationship with a man. The FIL tried to kill his lover too but he survived and became a monk.

7. The FIL framed the real Lady YeoJu and her husband for these murders. They were arrested and Lady YeoJu's husband died in custody. A pregnant Lady YeoJu escaped from prison with the help of the prison guard, who later came looking for her as a slave hunter.

These are all the murders I can remember. Quite a lot considering how light the show's vibe is!

weather - from April to October it was and now November is too with others - recording making month - woah - haha - months are together.

Autumn - was hot - record - november expected more than usual and it gave the outcome as expected.

Cold - yeah it's cold - the thing is if it gets to your body then it's cold - it really is cold - but more you feel because your body can't handle it and it shows up in data when november joined the summer n autumn.

Storm - this is what you wait for - That's howw december goes - that is blooming cold season.

Rain - hard to handle - strong air - oh oh

spring to high cold to stormy - quite an interesting upcoming two weeks.

Popcorn time.

Why weather is so important - keep eye on news - u get the economy - financial system - stock market - food sector and food market aka retail market - get demand and supply.

It's to check oh when gonna rain n when gonna snow - It has importance if u r able to use the data properly.

Natural Gas - it made high 3 weeks back - data comes out daily - depends a lot on data - so cold season means it should rise - as demand increases - but but autumn turned into spring and above avg. temp and same went for november - that means already available supply isn't in pressure at all - bang - Natural Gas fell - and fell good - I know some who shorted it at top aka sold Natural gas at top - because of not only weather data - but other significant data too - and made huge returns.

as said few weeks back - suggested and analysed pharma sector - as cold season approaches people need more healthcare and yup got many things right aka jackpot hit for many.

Weather - aka food sector - aka floods or no rain - unseasonal rain - see Weather is so cute n sweet, if u behave properly it has lot to give u - just see the bigger picture.

Politics - should do that in december of not as i always say december is high +ve month. Entertainment surely it is a lot - it's real vs. tv world which is far from reality.

December - +ve month - atlast i hv a few cookies - High fat milk kept me up and running for 335+ days - 23 more days to go. You can't gain weight if u consume less n use a lot of calories. High fat milk at best helps u not loss more weight.

For vegan - high fat milk to go and nuts, fruits, dry fruits, muesli and oats - granola - have to increase their share.

Atleast once Lima milk is need to be taken too - camel milk too - dang - too many things to do - that's for 2024

Among the tropes used in Kdramas, one is when someone gets sick, say a female character, a male character takes care of her, which in itself is as sappy as it is likeable. But the ailments Kdrama writers choose for their characters, in my opinion, are usually not good choices. Like in Perfect Marriage Revenge, there’s a scene when right after the female lead puked, the male lead proceeded to kiss her. That’s a hard one to stomach for me as a viewer. At least give her some water to drink first, isn’t that what we do when we see someone puking? Give them water and facial tissue.

Another common ailment in Kdramas is indigestion. I always wonder if the writers know how uncomfortable one can be if they had indigestion or other digestive issues, and it can get ugly, and there’s nothing romantic about that?

If they have to choose an ailment for their characters, I think migraine is a good choice :-) It’s quite common in reality and can be triggered by a lot of factors. But I’ve never encountered migraine in Kdramas :-)

I was put off by that kiss as well. They shouldve shown her rinsing her mouth or drinking water first.

Migraine is actually used by the moms who are disappointed with their son or daughter's choices in life. They would shut themselves in their room with towels on their forehead and refuse to speak with their offspring until they get what they want from them.

Ah, so that's how migraine is portrayed. I was always amused by that towel on their forehead. Does it really help with anything? If someone has a fever, then putting a wet towel on their forehead may help. But sometimes, it doesn't look like a cotton towel but more like a thin white cloth which is not even wet.

I believe I’ve seen a Kdrama scene in which someone falls on top of someone else and vomits right into their mouth. Doesn’t get much more disgusting than that. 🤮

I’m annoyed by how often indigestion shows up in Kdramas—particularly in the form of someone grabbing their butt and making a mad dash to the toilet. It’s almost always treated as something amusing. I don’t find it the least bit funny.

I am always put off by toilet humour and digestion humour. I wanted to drop King The Land right at the toilet scene but managed to stay for Junho for another episode, but still had to walk away in the end.

The writers couldn't come up with any better idea for feeling hungry than stomach rumbling, which can be heard in any setting, either in a quiet room or a noise street. While in real life (maybe not in Korean culture), having stomach rumbling in a quiet office is quite embarrassing.

So far I’ve only used a basic kimchijeon recipe, but I’ve been meaning to try one that combines kimchi and potatoes. Thanks for pointing me to Irene Yoo’s recipe.

While potato latkes are the traditional Hanukkah dish in Ashkenazi Jewish culture, anything fried in oil can symbolize the miracle celebrated in the holiday. We had been serving scallion pancakes the past few years, but this year we went back to potato latkes (which I personally find kind of disgusting unless I’m eating them fresh out of the frying pan). Next year I want to try one of the Hanukkah donut recipes traditionally served in Sephardic Jewish households.

THE RANDOM CONTENTS OF 9TAILEDVIXEN'S BRAIN ON A RAINY FRIDAY:

1. I was so excited to watch WELCOME TO SAMDAL-RI but somehow haven't got round to it because it's been a pretty brutal week at work and there's only MORE being piled on me in the coming weeks. Yep - goodbye having an uninterrupted holiday break sad vixen face

But I am determined to catch up with Ji Chang-Wook Shii over whatever paltry time off I have this December.

2. Who knew JungKook is the gateway drug to BTS? I have gone from listening to GOLDEN (which is a bloody awesome pop album) to being hooked on the BTS song DYNAMITE to the point where it is a constant earworm and I have been bouncing around to it during mini work breaks.

My neighbours probably hate me at this point LOL!

3. Speaking of BTS - I knew that South Korean feminists were unhappy with them because of misogynistic lyrics and so I went digging and found out about their evolution from doing that to becoming a band that supports women and their leader RM becoming a major male ally in the space of about 3 years. And I have to admit that I'm impressed - they defied their culture and upbringing to do this.

4. And now my BTS-loving friends are slyly informing me that "RM is 6 feet tall and gorgeous and feminist so what more could you want?"

ME: Why is everyone trying to be Rowoon aka doing The Matchmakers gig thing to me?

5. The Great Baking Supplies Stocking-Up has begun. Lugged home bags of flour today and now I need jars for bottling Christmas Marmalade, more butter (butter is GOD in baking!), more sugar, more eggs, more spices...

6. The K-Beauty skincare routine is working like gangbusters - my panda eyes are gone, my eye bags are almost gone, and someone remarked that I'm getting the "glass skin" look now - glowy glowy GLOWY!

7. Off to buy fabric soon to get a billowy-sleeved blouse a la Do Do-Hee from MY DEMON made. Because that blouse design ROCKS!

Sadly not a sewist (yet). But:

1. I will be taking the absolutely gorgeous polka dot georgette fabric I bought to the tailor soon (tailors are pretty affordable in my part of the world). The people at the fabric shop were very amused when I showed them the picture of Do Do-Hee's blouse to the tune of "You will need a LOT of fabric for *that*!" and "Wait - are you going to have that massive bow made or will you be going with a more modest bow because that affects the amount of fabric you need."

2. Next year I will be learning to use a sewing machine. I can hand-stitch stuff but have not attempted sewing machines yet and I really should as I would love to make some of my designs instead of having to schlep over to the tailor to have them done.

While watching Tell Me You Love Me this week, Mr. Drunk Guy told Jin-woo something : "Sometimes I envy you. You can just say you didn't know. Then and now. You have a place to hide". I can relate a bit to that.

I could relate a bit to that statement. While it isn't something I do intentionally. Since I'm short-sighted, I tend to focus my vision on what's ahead of me. So I consciously blur out any other any information on the edges and keep my ears open to sounds around me. Even when I focus on what's ahead of me, it doesn't mean that I'm seeing the people ahead of me. While I know that I'm walking along the path and people are doing same at the same time, I also blur out people's faces. So we can be coming from opposite sides and I do not see you at all and we just pass each other by.
Sometimes the faces click in moments after we've past each other by. Each time I was confronted, I simply told them I was not with my glasses so I couldn't see beyond my range of vision. But I also ask if they made a maximal effort to get my attention or distract me, ranging from waving into my face, blocking my path, or keeping their gaze trained on me cause I easily sense that.

Do I hide behind this? Not too often but then it is a lot. For one thing, it has helped me to not have to confront some particular situations and felicitations, and also not interact with some people when I'm not in the frame of mind to do so. I recognize a lot of people so my initial reaction is to freeze and wave or nod when I see a familiar face. It is so embarrassing sometimes though cause others are wondering why is he nodding or waving especially when no one is waving or nodding back. So in moments when my sight is blurring out virtually everyone and every face around me, moments I am always thankful for, I do not have to mentally freeze and stand on ceremony for every face I see in these moments. If you don't distract me, that's not on me.

However mixed the thoughts of people are about this, I like the fact that I have a place to hide.

My stomach had been hurting off and on for the past two months, I thought it was just me getting older and my digestion slowing down. But one day it kept hurting from 7 am to 2 am with no sign of stopping, so I took a shower and an Uber to the ER. The docs on duty took a look at each other and said, "gallbladder". I was woozy from the pain medication and staying in the hospital for the first time, so I wasn't much of an advocate for myself. Just felt too intimidated and overwhelmed. A few days later my gallbladder was removed. Throughout the wait in the hospital, I don't remember someone sitting down with me to explain what happened to my gallbladder, why I need surgery, and if there are any other options. I feel embarassed that as a grown adult I was so meek. And so I'm just hoping and praying that the surgery was really for the best and that there won't be any complications. They discharged me with minimal info, assuring me that there won't be any complications or increased risk of other conditions. But after googling, I found that there are of course risk of other complications associated with gallbladder removal. Such as increased risk of kidney cancer (?!), bile duct leak (?!), etc. The sobering fact that I won't be able to eat foods like pizza, hamburgers, ice cream, etc as freely as I did before (without risk of watery stools aka explosive diarrhea) doesn't even seem as important as some of the associated complications. I am thankful though that I did have my 20's and 30's to eat whatever I wanted (which may have contributed to this gallbladder condition, who knows?) and the memories of traveling around Asia eating whatever streetfood that caught my fancy will be a cherished memory. This experience made me realize how unfriendly the food world and Instagram is to people without gallbladders unable to digest fat well. I especially am curious how people in Korea deal with eating after surgery. Are they able to continue enjoying kimchi, mandu, garlic chive pancakes, jeon, gamjatang, jajangmyun? I am thinking wistfully about the Korea trip I was planning for next year. I was mainly going to go for the food. I don't know if I can still eat market food like mung bean pancakes? And the jajangmyun and sweet and sour pork that I've been dreaming about ordering delivery for? If anyone has experience and advice for eating Korean foods particularly after gallbladder surgery, I'm all ears. PS the surgery caused me to miss the first book for the book club, which is a shame. I started watching Vigilante but I realized that thrillers made my stomach tense up, which didn't feel great after abdominal surgery. I needed to watch something warm and humorous (laughter is the best medicine after all) but not too funny because laughing too much would make the incisions hurt! So I ended up watching Crash Landing On You. It had just enough humor to make me feel better. PPS I still have a ton to learn about gallbladder surgery and how to prevent it...

I’m glad you got yourself to the ER. It’s very difficult to be your own patient advocate while in pain, stressed, on drugs and especially for an unplanned illness! Please don’t be too hard on yourself. Is there post-operative care planned? A health professional should be able to advise you on what you probably can eat going forward and also any future complications to watch for.

Korean food is traditionally very low fat. So its one of the best cusines if you have gallbladder surgery! Just try to stick with traditional foods- kimbap, soup and stew (-tang and -guk) and bibambap and you will be fine! (limit or stay off the fried chicken though). I have a few friends who have had their gallbladder removed, and they are all fine ( and happier and much less pain) so it's a fairly normal surgery, don't be too stressed about it. They do have medicine they can take to help with the digestion/break down the fat, so try to do some research/ see if there is a physician or dietician you can talk to about that. Best wishes!

Thank you Neolttwigi sweetheart! And the food info is very helpful. Too bad jajangmyun does not end in -tang or -guk ^^ I guess I'll try air frying if the craving for fried foods hits. I'm very glad to hear there are digestive supplements.

Yeah, jajangmyun is a Korean version of a chinese dish, so not Traditional Korean which means it might be greasy. (According to " Wok of Love" many restaurant versions are greasy-maybe a kdrama is not the best place to look for a food review, but I thought it would be fun to throw that in). There are some traditional noodle dishes though- Look for nangmyeon or makguksu. And of course, most of the traditional banchan ( side dishes) will be good. (I'm seeing some very non-traditional banchan appearing in my country now- I don't know if that is just catering to western tastes, or if that is a thing in Korea now? Something to be aware of)

Good on you for getting through it all!

You should definitely get some kind of follow-up care.

I'm not sure where you're based, but in the UK it's routine for the hospital to arrange your follow-up care. Try calling the hospital and asking if you can get a post-op appointment?

If that's not possible, consult your regular doctor. Perhaps write a list of questions and concerns which you can take with you to your appointment. They should be able to give you advice re your diet.

With Googling, try to stick to reliable sources to avoid any health scares. Reliable sources would be national health bodies and patient groups/charities. You may want to look at the UK's national health service page for gall bladder surgery: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/gallbladder-removal/

Thank you kadota sweetheart! I was thinking about how the same procedure might have been different if it were in other countries, such as those in Europe or Asia. In the US, gallbladder surgery is a same day procedure, which means you are supposed to leave and not stay overnight. But personally I did not feel ready to leave and literally begged them to allow me to stay two nights. It would have been very difficult if I had to go home the day of surgery. I didn't even know how to get out of bed by myself, for one thing (there is a method) I am compiling a list that is getting longer every day of questions to ask the nurse practioner I'm supposed to see. And yes, you are right about sticking to safe sources on the internet. I have seen such a wide variety of advice for what to eat after gallbladder surgery, ranging from "you can eat anything you want" to "stick to a low fat liquid diet" ^^

it sounds like malpractice not to inform you. but often gallbladder problems arent even diagnosed BEFORE an operation. they must have good diagnostics. removal is almost always the only solution, there arent great ways to treat it. I would say risk of cancer is probably very low, but then, risk of cancer is everywhere. focusing your fear will certainly not do anything good. we never know

I was thinking it's pretty cool and brave for actors, especially those from idol backgrounds, to go against the typical "good guy/good girl" roles.
I thought this after I saw Lee Jun Young's casting in Weak Hero Class 2.

The very first thing I saw him in was Love and Leashes. It's not graphic or anything but it appearently was considered controversial and risque since the premise involved BDSM and the casting involved [former?] idols. And recently he was in a movie where he played an entitled, priviledged bully (which I think he's done before but he seemed even more menacing to me now. Maybe because he's becoming a better, more experienced actor? Maybe cause this time his bully is more hands on and the previous role was more manipulative instigator? I don't know; I've only seen clips of both). I'm not entirely sure which character he's supposed to be in Weak Hero Class 2 but I think he's supposed to be an antagonist.

I watched him first in Class of Lies as a villain and I thought his acting was great. But Brave Citizen turned my stomach 😑 It was just too much. And you just know that he will go straight to her when he gets out of the prison. Ugh, I couldn't stop watching and I was deeply satisfied with how much upperhand Shin Hae Sun's character got over him but the movie was disturbing, nauseating, and left me shaking. I'm sad that he is going to do a similar role in Weak Hero. He deserves better than being typecast.

I don't know if he's being type cast or the parts are just interesting. Like Brave Citizen seems like an interesting movie. Weak Hero Class 1 was done well (I still am not a fan of the addition of the girl but whatever) so maybe he thought it was a good opportunity to take part in the next season.

I'm just curious which character he's supposed to be

And more about him and his costar in the movie because I just learned about this. There were fans saying even though his character is clearly menancing and showing criminal behaviors towards Shin Hae Sun's character, they had chemistry. Shippable chemistry. The captions/subtitles say "poison chemistry" or "clorox water chemistry"

And the actors look so dumbfounded by this

Especially when the reporter asked them if they felt it

Sidenote: I'm having some serious deja vu.
Is common that reporters ask that type of question even with this type of content?

Maybe I should reread Wolf's arc? Nah, I'll just watch the drama haha

S2 seems like it will be packed with characters, more so than S1

I'm not sure if Ryeoun is gonna be Alex (I think that's his name) or the bullied shuttle guy who befriended Gray (I don't remember his name). Maybe he's playing someone else but those were my 2 guesses.

I'll take your word for it because I haven't read the webtoon, but all the casting is out.

Ryeoun is playing Ben Park.
Lee Min-jae is playing Alex Go.
Choi Min-young is playing Eugene Gale, the bullied shuttle guy.
Yoo Su-bin is playing Colton Choi, who appeared in the first season.
Bae Na-ra is playing Donald Na.
Lee Jun-young is playing Wolf Keum.

IKR, S2 is packed. This is practically all my faves in one drama!

He was a good guy in May I Help You

I think in Imitation & Let Me Be Your Knight, his character had some "jerk but gets better" traits/qualities (if memory serves). I think in both it's somewhat understandable cause he was the leader of the group as well as the primary songwriter/composer for the group.

He was a good guy in Please Don't Date Him

A jerk in D.P. (I didn't even realize he was the same guy from Love & Leashes when I saw him in that)

I think it's safe to say he's played good & bad guys haha. I'm not even sure if he does one type better than the other haha

I tried to make a 'favorite dramas of 2023' list and I only got so far. There's 'One Day Off', 'Lies Hidden In My Garden', 'Call It Love', and... and... Why am I having such difficulty coming up with a favorites list? Either some of my favorite dramas have entirely escaped my mind or the dramas I watched this year simply didn't rise to the level of 'favorites'. I know I'm forgetting one important drama but I simply cannot recall it.

I don't know who said "yeah, let's make a holiday about playing with every single type of firework that exists" but I hate that person.
In my era it was called "día de las velitas", not "día of destroying tabong's eardrums". I didn't see one single candle on the street, tho (velitas=candles), just the massive smoke from the fireworks.

I totally forgot how loud this month is. Fireworks, music, people. Just so freaking loud. Who's not going to be able to go around without headphones even inside her house?🤚 This gal. Brilliant.

I didn't watch king the land and I don't watch my demon but I can't help but wonder if their buzz & popularity is due to the visuals and appeal of actors than the actual show.

Every time I see something about it, it's just photoshoots of the actors or talking about the actors' look. I did see something about a dance battle or something

2

Required fields are marked *

I don't think so.
1. I don't really care about visuals and I still think My Demon is great. I don't even think Song Kang is handsome, I just like him as an actor and I like his character. Kim Yoo Jung is pretty but not enough to make me watch a bad show. Well, no actor/actress is pretty enough to make me watch a bad show (maybe Moon Chae Won... LOL).

2. The aesthetic of the show is nice and the main leads are chic and charismatic (imo), so the screenshots or gifs are going to reflect that. But if you read the comments in the recaps you'll see all the reasons why people like the show. And also the reasons why some people don't like it. And in both cases I've never seen that the only/main reason is "the visuals". Actually, I feel like there's more people that doesn't like the main actors, than people that actually likes them.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

In the past I would never dream of posting at this time, but since more Beanies backread here goes:

To those who celebrate Christmas, do you decorate the house, and how?🎄

Dad pleads with mom every year, and every year she begrudgingly agrees, as long as she does not have to help out with the decorating. Of course, she is always the first to get involved from her sofa.😄

So, dad and I just finished decorating and we have a decent Christmas tree with some lights around the nearest wall. This year it was also finally brought to my dad’s attention that he tends to throw broken ornaments back in the boxes, and we finally threw those things out.😉

I celebrate Christmas, but do not decorate my house. My parents had a Christmas tree when we were young, and my sisters do the same. This year my nephews put the ornaments on. There are also garlands on the furniture. And a nativity where the baby will appear on Dec 25.
My father likes to suspend a lot of red Christmas' balls on the ceiling between the wooden beans.

You touched a chord with your comment. I have not put up the Christmas tree for years since kids flew the coop. Since downsizing last year, I have too much stuff on storage and started with the tree to be ‘disposed’. However, my daughter suggested that I make sure the parts and decor are complete and photograph it before posting for sale. I do not know how I got the energy but I did put up the upper half (as I have smaller space now). It looked lovely. Now I don’t want to part with it. But how to store them when I end my storage contract? Then I had my Holy family and advent candles put up. Again, only the main cast and the rest remained on storage. Again, something I can’t part with. Oh well, I guess they still want to remain with me. They’re like nearly 20 years with me already. Happy Christmas!
