You just can’t even 🤷🏻‍♀️ but then again the most popular tv personality in the US is whining loudly (made a whole tv special!) about how men’s testosterone is at an all time low partly due to man-bashing women, and advises that men help themselves by tanning their private parts. At least SK has creative names that call this behavior out 🙄

…I don’t even wanna ask more about this

@mindy: I can’t blame you as it is not a happy or easy read but as it initially deals with the effects of many KDramas valorising a certain kind of (fictional) Korean men, at the very leadt, it is useful fodder for further thought for those of us on this website.

I meant what bbstl was saying about “the most popular tv personality” in my country lol, not your article! I read the article you linked to.

Most days I just shake my head until I think it might fall off 🤦🏼‍♀️ (I keep it on by the constant forehead-slapping) 😆

@bbstl: it is devastating and appalling even if not surprising as an another form of global backlash against women’s rights.

The entire world is going to hell and we have first-row seats to the sh-tshow. However, and maybe I will come off as unsympathetic and harsh for saying this, I truly do not understand how certain people can watch fictional media and think that that’s how real-life people from a certain place will definitely act like. Good fictional characters are always an idealized, glamourized depiction of the real deal. I just don’t get that naïveté. Like, obviously that’s not how the majority of Korean men are like, duh. Where I come from, male protagonists depicted in tv/film are honestly…not great. At all. But I’d still say they’re better than a lot of the real men, who are mostly misogynist trash in a deeply patriarchal society where whatever they say/do is justified simply by virtue of being men. Why are there so many people simply taking everything being shown at face value?

Sorry for the rant. I probably come off as unduly harsh to many of y’all, but I’m just exhausted by the state of the world. Women’s rights are regressing right before our eyes and I’m honestly afraid of how the world will look in a few years time.

@ladynightshade: I hear you and am incredulous too. I had just written you a long response and lo and behold, the AI censor went off for an explicable reason deleting my comment.

@dncingemma: Was it the dramabeans censorship again? *Sigh* As much as I like this site, some of the stuff here can be extremely annoying – the random censorship being one of them. To this day I don’t know the exact criteria behind what’s banned and what isn’t, but all I know is that comments of mine that were randomly deleted ranged from simple, innocuous observations to more serious discussions. I just wish I knew the rules behind this.

Or maybe it’s something else entirely and I went off on a rant for no reason. It’s just a shame I couldn’t read your response because I know it would’ve been insightful as always.

@ladynightshade: Yes. I meant ‘inexplicable’ not ‘explicable’. So random and weird. And, it would be good to know. Some aspects of the operation of this site are almost as secretive as a cult’s.
And, as always (at least to me), you’re on the money. Thank you for empathising!
