Dr. Slump episode 9:
No matter what the question is, the answer is alcohol. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many separate drinking scenes in a single drama episode.
3:00 – Hong-ran the bad friend pressures Ha-neul to buy drinks to celebrate her newfound connecton with Sh*tty Dr. Kyung-min.
6:00 – Kyung-min, Sh*tty Supervisor, and group have drinks to celebrate screwing HN over with a false accusation.
8:00 – HN pounds soju alone in a pojamgmacha in the pathetically fallacious rain. This is intercut with a shot of HN taking her antidepressant medication, just in case we’d forgotten.
14:00 – Jeong-woo suggests having soju with Dae-yeong.
14:05 – quick cut to HN and Hong-ran having soju.
14:45 – JW and Dae-yeong have soju.
15:00 – HN gets incapably drunk, Hong-ran hauls her home.
16:00 – that’s interspersed for several minutes with JW getting completely plastered with Dae-yeong.
32:00 – uncle brings afternoon beers to HN, because no one’s had enough alcohol yet.
35:00 – uncle and brother hoodwink HN and mom into having pig’s trotters and soju for the stated purpose of drinking a lot and making up. Drinking scene goes on for several days minutes.
Mercifully, the drinking streak ends there, although the hangover features prominently in the rest of the episode.
I’m going to have to take a break before attempting episode 10. My liver can’t take this, even vicariously.
I really feel you. The one con of this show, to me, is their drinking scenes. Excessive drinking, especially when being medicated, is a dangerous thing. It looks to me like they have this skewed view towards alcohol consumption.
Yes, sooooo much alcohol. I wish they didn’t do that all the time! For me, it takes away a bit from the scenes of meaningful connection forged between the family, or sometimes even the main couple.
I guess it’s partly done for comedic impact…? 🤔
I think it’s done for comedic impact, too; but I also think it’s reasonable to wonder if it is also sending a harmful message to viewers with less experience and discernment.
Well if it makes you feel better in episode 10 there is only 1 flashback drunk episode where there is a misunderstanding/joke about being doctors and their last names and how even they don’t believe/forgot they were doctors. It seems that maybe now that they are starting to heal more they won’t be needing the binge drinking escapism.
Well, the rest of episode 10 has the OTT medical scenes of knives cutting flesh and instruments prodding and squishing within bodies…so, maybe wait a bit?
When you eliminate the medical gore, drunkenness, bad friend, irritating brother, Sh*tty Former Supervisor, and Sh*tty Kyung-min, there’s not much show left.
It’s really bad in this drama, even before taking into account that she already has depression AND is on meds to treat it. It’s very irresponsible. Unless suddenly towards the end, her doctor asks how much she drinks and the says, OH that’s why you’re not improving. Which will not happen.

I saw the over-the-top drunk scene at the beginning of episode 10 and gave up and went to bed.
😂 I’ll try again tonight – maybe.

Yes, it is almost like having diabetes and binge-eating sweets.
