Beanie level: Errand boy

If they do turn this into a drama I will watch!

I love that Dongfang builds a replica of Arbiter Hall because he realizes that Orchid is homesick and he wants her to feel at home within a foreign land ♥

And also the one in Xishan. But i liked this scene more for the emphasis on how she was still here against her will and very firmly told him she’d like to go back even if they consider her a traitor. From Shuintiyian is my home to Cangyan Sea is my home, the journey was impeccable.

I finished Love Between Fairy and Devil and I will definitely watch it again. The story, the characters, the sets (real and cgi), and the costumes were beautiful. I have said this before, but I am glad that I watched this drama. I want to thank the Beanies who posted about this drama. Were it not for your posts and glowing reviews, I most likely would never have watched.

It’s great that you took a chance with it. While it may have a rich background that can confuse some but essentially it is a love story which I think everyone can enjoy.

A love story that everyone can enjoy.. I’m in need of such story right now!

@wapzy Thank you. I agree that there are a lot of characters and storylines. However, the love between the main characters is something that can be universally enjoyed.

Wapzzzz. I am stuck at 14!
The friend came and then it felt like we are going in circles. What should I look forward to 🙂

Oh just skim 14 and maybe also 15, though they are kind of important in the whole story’s context but not as much. I remember these episodes as being rather slow with one major thing though. But one of the most important moment happens in the events leading from ep 16 to 18, so keep going 😜 Jbtw Cangyan sea is all about their developing emotions.

Done! Mid Ep 15 was awesome. Loved the whole Haisbi deception, illusion and the fight scene.
And the emotional weight of Ep 16-18 was good! It really was heartbreaking to see DQ’s journey as a child and the pain he has to bear now (so poignant that he made that choice for himself). But so glad it all came out to the open. I was so looking forward to the brothers getting on the same side!
Dylan is just too good here!! So many angles.

Blue after writing this comment, I went back and skimmed these episodes and realized I shouldn’t have told you to skim ep 15 lol. It actually is really important in changing XLH’s attitude towards DFQC. And though Jeili is kind of annoying, her overall approach helped XLH realize her feelings too. The last few mins of ep 14 are great too when Dylan is shifting between crazily laughing and crying lol. But yeah the real stuff is in ep 16 to 18. Ep 18 alongwith a later one is actually one of my favorite episodes. The scene with the brothers and just the smart interplay of l linking the father son with the brother-brother relationship and the execution worked deliciously. I was rewatching the earlier episodes when I was watching these episodes for the first time and the leads are so so different from what they were introduced us as.

@wapzy I didn’t skip. I later realized it’s just the friend that annoys me along with her hair so I watched that in 1.25x to quickly move past. And she seems to do stupid and dangerous things. Anyway.

I love the character growth in both the leads and the slowly blossoming love in Orchid. I like slow burn romance built on solids understanding and trust. I can’t wait for the day when Orchid will trust him 100%.
The hair pin to hide her feelings was a nice hint too.

@mayhemf I loved the flashbacks of DQ’s childhood. I am going to re-watch because this drama is awesome.

So, I am almost finished with Love Between Fairy and Devil. Beanies, are there any C-dramas that you can recommend that are similar?

I don’t watch much costume cdrama. The only other drama i really loved was ‘The Untamed’. Quite a few beanies enjoyed ‘Who Rules the World (2022)’..
If you are open for modern there are quite a few ; )

That’s hard because LBFD is a quality drama in many aspects. Sometimes you’ll find good story but not good cgi or costumes. I think if you’ve never tried anything else in this fantasy genre from China, you should see Ten Miles of Peach Blossom. That’s a good one, It’s also known as Eternal Love on Netflix (don’t confuse it with another Eternal love that one has three seasons). Next, I’ve heard story wise Ashes of Love is near to LBFD’s but I’ve not seen that one. Though it is a favorite of many. Other shows in the genre that are acclaimed include, Love and Destiny, Love and Redemption and Ancient Love Poetry.

Or you could also try the drama adaptations of the novels written by the same writer Jiu Lei Fei Shang. Those are The Legends and the Blue Whisper. However, both don’t live up to the standards of LBFD. The production company for LBFD has bought the rights for all of the writers works now so I’m optimistic about their shows. And am looking forward to what other projects they are releasing in the near future (Love you seven times in 2023, Fox Spirit Matchmaker, currently shooting), that may live up to LBFD in total quality.

I’m glad to hear that this company has other projects in the works. Hopefully, these dramas will also be available on Netflix. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I’ve just completed my rewatch and it’s equally hard to say goodbye to these characters as the first time around. So glad you took a chance with the show too. It is slightly difficult to get into it in the beginning but soon everything makes sense.

I am enjoying their dynamic so much! Actually watched a few episodes with my Aunt 🙂

Yay to bringing your Aunt to the show. They are a very strong couple I would say. Their dynamic is something other couples (set in a fantasy drama but also otherwise) miss out on.

As much as Park Jin exasperates me, he is cute with Do Joo.
Plus Danggu and ChoYeon were adorbs together.
