Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

I would love to have a close analysis of some of the better dramas. I know there's 'top dramas' and rankings, but perhaps more like a "close reading" of the drama and its intricacies that can't be given justice in a recap.

everything has been awesome and db is fun! movie recommendations of the month/ review would be nice too. choice actor picks for the less noticed or less noticed drama/movies per season? the drunk podcasts are great too :) how bout a drama ost review or picks aside from song of the day etc? since not all osts are well known?
or like little k culture tidbits? stuff we see on dramas elaborated etc? little bits :)

these are litttle things but im happy with db and
congrats and happy new year birthday to everyone who works hard for db! from every little thing. my drama place from the start. you guys rock !

I love dramabeans the way it is...but if i had to choose...I'd say more older drama recaps! or even just reviews. I got into Kdramas a little late so i missed all the dramas before 2007ish. I especially wanna see a Damo recap (or review) coz that last episode of 1n2d made me wanna see more of Lee Seo-Jin. :D

In 2012, I want to see recaps (weecaps?) for two of my favourite k-dramas ever, Soulmate and Biscuit Teacher Star Candy. I know javabeans did an awesome review/character description for Soulmate. But this is most probably wishful thinking, since you guys are already bogged down by recaps and updates and real life. So I just want to thank everyone who writes for this site, because you guys make watching k-dramas so, so much fun.

Ooh, I also LOVED javabeans' Hana Yori Dango review. So if you guys ever have anyone who watches j-dramas do reviews for some series, that'd be the best thing ever. :D

You guys probably won't consider this, but I would love to see Chinese/Taiwanese/Japanese drama recaps on db, especially now that actors/actresses from korea and other countries are appearing in different countries' dramas/movies.

Perhaps the Chinese-speaking dramas could be http://www.ch.dramabeans.com, korean be kr.dramabeans.com, japanese be http://www.jp.dramabeans.com, while all together they form dramabeans.com. (Or to make things simpler, just keep the korean one dramabeans.com.)

And on the top of each webpage, you should include a link to each of the Japanese, Chinese, and the Korean pages. Each page (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) would act independently, but still be the same dramabeans.com.

One the side, where it says "Currently Airing," each page would have either the schedule for Japanese, Korean, Chinese, or Taiwanese dramas, depending on which page they visit (jp/ch/kr/-). And perhaps under the "Currently Airing," it could become somewhat like a calendar/planner for us, with us being able to "view the next week's schedule" or "view the previous week's schedule" if you know what I mean.... It would be extremely useful for us drama lovers who constantly need to be reminded of when our next dramas will come out.

It would be really nice for us drama lovers, because not all of us just stick to Korean dramas -- we watch all kinds of asian dramas. But then of course...dramabeans seems to have a mission statement of "deconstructing korean dramas..."

Though your plans seem to be quite detailed, the general idea of getting guest bloggers to tell about Japanese, Chinese and Taiwanese dramas appeals to me as well. I remember that the idea was raised once before but that suggestion has obviously not been realised.

Apart from that I like the site just as it is though more drama recaps would be much appreciated - even if I understand that the time space continuum won't allow for it.

Yeah, I love this site just as much, but there is always room for improvements ^_^;

Ahh, well anything is possible ;) I'm sure as this site grows with increasing popularity, the amount of recaps would also increase significantly as well.

It's crazy how far and big Dramabeans has become!! I have a lot of love for this site and admire you all for continuing it. Congratulations and here's to another wonderful five years!

Similar to what one commenter has mentioned, how about a live chat from time to time? Maybe on a particular drama? Even just between Dramabeans blogging family?

Like many commenters have mentioned, more culture and glossary posts! The "oppa" one was such an enjoyable read.

See, you are just asking for trouble by asking for one thing I want to see more of. Immediately, my mind goes to: "How about more Jung Il Woo? Or Lee Min Ho? Kim Bum is looking a lot more manly these days..." Just kidding. Kind of.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dramabeans as it is now. Having said that, I would be excited to see more of the random culture and language posts you guys throw out there, like the uses of "oppa" and the difference between "banmal" and "jondaemal." Those posts are invaluable for K-n00bs like me.

I know this sounds really weird to share here but it was one of those things I really wish you had. I love doing drama recap marathons on dramabeans because I don't have time to watch the drama and I don't like to wait for the next episode. So I wait until the drama/recaps are done and read them all the way through. (I seriously would sneak underneath the covers to read your recaps so my husband wouldn't notice.) But because there wasn't any next episode button, I couldn't easily land the next episode. I had to press back, scroll down the recap list and find the drama and then the episode. And sometimes since I forgot what episode I was on, I would press the wrong episode button and have to do the whole thing over again.
So as for me, I would like a simple link that goes on to the next episode.
Like I said, it's a minor detail.
Thank you do much for your recaps. I love them!!!!

I started following this site almost exactly a year ago and I absolutely LOVE all you've done for us readers.

In the future it'd great to see more cultural blogs. I love that you explain the cultural and meta references whenever they come up in different dramas, but the separate posts, like you did for the explanations of "oppa" and "noona" were hilarious and incredibly informative. I'd love to see similar posts along the same vein about other aspects of Korean culture that come up often in dramas.

More variety show recaps please! You guys do an amazing job with 1N2D and Running Man, but I'd love to see more recaps in general. Whether that means other current variety shows, other old variety shows, or even the older eps of RM/1N2D, I'd appreciate everything.

Well honestly I think what you guys are doing are perfectly fine, but you can expand on it. Here's what I mean:

1) Variety Shows - You've already got Running Man, so how about other variety shows like Strong Heart, Star King, and We Got Married.

2) Movies - There are some of us who can't watch Korean movies or understand the language, yet we still watch them. Have some reviews on what movies we should and shouldn't watch and it would be a nice translation for us foreigners.

3) Catching up on Dramas - I've noticed that some dramas haven't been completely recapped. Which is perfectly understandable b/c let's face it, not every drama happens to be "good", but 2012 can be a great way to catch up on them and complete them

4) Routine Podcasts and Q&A - How about weekly podcasts or monthly, ya'know like a podcast every Wednesday...er something like that. Maybe even a Q&A page where you use your awwwwesssooommeeee writing skills to answer our annoying questions.

5) Something New:

Japanese/Chinese/etc Dramas - I, myself (and I'm purrty shur it's everyone too), but I don't only watch anything Korean related. Like I even watch Japanese dramas here to there (despite the fact they don't fulfill my expectations). Even watching Taiwanese dramas that Korean actors are in (like with Japanese). It's just a a bit of a refresher from what I normally do.

Cartoons/Anime - Yes. I know. WTF?!! "This guurrlll is telling us we gotta do some recaps on friggin' cartoons????" You don't have to, but it's some idea that popped up. (I love Anime btw)

Reviews on Music - Instead of just reviewing on Dramas, how about Music. Like some of the Indie music I heard from the last podcast you're in to. Or K-pop b/c you sound like you don't like it very much. Just and idea.

Sorry it's so long, probably sounds like a A LOT of work??? Just keep Dramabeans amazingly RAWESOME and things will work out! Thank you very much for all the hard effort each of you put on!

dear javabeans@girlfriday,

you are already doing an amazing job, so much so i was sitting there for 10 minutes scratching my head cause i could think of nothing you needed improving on!

i would love to see more of your awesome recaps and random titbits here and there and also maybe half yearly reviews? i love the end of year reviews but i am always sad that because the whole year must be taken into consideration, many dramas fade to the back of memories.

thanks for the past 5 years and i wish you the best in the year of dragon!!

ok, here's my wishful thinking:

would love if you took your podcast up one level - film it while you girls are chatting away, with some soju and korea bbq, like in the real drama, except dissecting dramas. you can even introduce us to whatever it is you're eating/drinking. or you can run clips of the dramas/singers/actors that you're discussing while talking about them.

just thinking outside the box. I love your site as it is already.

I wish dramabeans would feature/discuss about books/novels that are being adapted into dramas/movies.

Maybe do a very brief translation of the books or maybe introduce the book/author.

I believe korean literature is not very under-appreciated and not widely available outside Korea and it would be really cool if we can have access to them.

Or maybe javabeans/girlfriday can talk about books that they WISHED would be adapted into a drama/movie.

Anyway, keep up the amazing job and no matter what changes that will happen in the future I will for sure always tune in even though I don't always comment!

Happy New Year.Cheers!!!

Dramabeans, please do recaps on other dramas other than Korean ones:) That'd be so sweet<3
For starters, how about Skip Beat/extravagant challenge? The one with Super Junior stars, Siwon and Donghae?
I swear, you'll like this drama:) Even if you don't understand chinese, there's always English subs and you'll like it:) the storyline is just like the manga, and the acting is actually really good, despite the Super Junior guys being singers:)

I would like to see finished recaps of all time greats. Like, Delightful girl, Choon-hyang or All About Eve. Sometimes you guys make references to these older dramas and I have no clue on what you were referring to! And I also don't want to spend what seems like my entire life to watching them!

Ok, my next idea may be a little lame, but bear with me.
Maybe a 'of the week' post. Your favorite actor/actress/movie/drama/song/video clip/model/food etc etc. i don't know if you ever tried doing this before, but it might actually be fun or informational for those that haven't gotten very far into Korean culture.

Love reading all your post but gotta confess recaps are my favorite

I want to see different drama recaps...when i say different i mean recaps of taiwanese and japanese drama...if possible of course

the reason i want you guys to expand on this is i love your writing style, amusing, detalied [giving none korean ppl bg info], your thoughts/opinion just takes reading recap to another level.

Thanks for writing all the recaps, news and keeping us updated with K-World
