So, totally didn’t intend for it to be the Week of Joo-won Headlines, but I guess Fate’s got other ideas. After three hit dramas (Baker King Kim Tak-gu, Ojakkyo Brothers, Gaksital) and one that defies all earth logic (here’s lookin’ at you, Level 7 Civil Servant), Joo-won is going back to filmlandia to take his first headlining role in a movie.
It’s a romantic comedy called Only You, which is so vague you may as well call it A Romance Film. Though really, I suppose you’d get more people in the theater if you just went ahead and called it Movie Starring Joo-won-ie. The movie will be an unusual love story between a house burglar and a cop. It’s described as a light comedy, and will be directed by newcomer Lee Hyun-jong.
Joo-won will be playing the cop, which is kind of a bummer, given that he’s played that character about ten thousand times already. I’d rather have him be the cat burglar. Meow. The production is still in the casting process for the thievin’ heroine. I can only say this with so much emphasis because there’s no such thing as double-italics: She’d better be a good match for him. That is all.
Only You hopes to finish casting and start shooting as soon as Level 7 ends. No rest for the pretty.

hmmm..outstanding actresses in their 20′s. my choices would have to be Shin Min Ah, Moon Geun Young and YEH. i adore them mainly because they really embrace their roles. the chemistry is hard to guarantee, but all we can do is hope and pray, based on their level of professionalism.
have you ever watched Coffee Prince? i was in awe of the onscreen chemistry between YEH & Gong Yoo. it seemed so REAL. so it surprised me to find out that offscreen, they weren’t as tight. but in the grand scheme of things, what matters most is how well they’re able to express their roles with some credibility. they need to make viewers like us, believe in their attraction and relationship. that’s what excites viewers like me.
now if we’re talking older actresses (taking into consideration that JW can look mature as well), i would love for him to work with Son Ye Jin, Song Hye Kyo, Jun Ji Hyun and Ha Ji Won.
Wow this is creepy but I came up with almost the same names as you. I had Shin Min Ah, Yoon Eun-hye, Park Ha-sun, Song Hye Kyo, Han Hyo Joo and maybe Park Shin-hye. These are all popular actresses but I’m just shallow like that ^^;
Coffee Prince was one of my first korean dramas! I completely agree that YEH always manages to have chemistry with her co-actors. I’m pretty sure she’d be able to scrounge up some form of chemistry with a tree stump. The thing I respect about her is that she doesn’t seem to care whether she looks good on camera or not.
Moon Geun Young’s acting has been sort of iffy for me. I liked her in the first few episodes of Cinderella’s sister, but she seems to have a limited acting range from what I saw in Cheongdamdong Alice.
I’ll probably get shot for this but I didn’t like Secret Garden or King 2 Hearts, so I don’t really know about Ha Ji won’s acting^^
Song Hye Kyo is just downright gorgeous, but I heard she only takes up one project every few light years, haha

of course, we’re going to be shallow. we live vicariously through the characters we watch…..in this instance, JW’S leading ladies. we want them attractive, talented, smart, kick-ass, kind and worthy of JW’S character’s love. 
i would have to agree with everything you’ve said about YEH, Moon and Ha Ji Won. Of the 3 i believe Ha Ji Won’s acting isn’t up to par, however, she can carry BAD-ASS really well. Moon..i’ve liked her since My Little Bride and Innocent Steps. she’s a fantastic actress..but will admit that i didn’t watch Alice. YEH..well, she’s fierce. she’s all about realism in portraying a character..doesn’t matter if she looks plain onscreen..as long as it legitimizes her role..she’s all for it. gotta love that about her.

Anyway Elle, if you’re not familiar with Park shin-hye, I recommend “You’re Beautiful”! Her acting is not particularly fabulous in this one but the whole drama is really entertaining. It’s the only mainstream silly drama I’ve really enjoyed so far just because it’s so random and cute
“Flower boy next door” (which stars PSH) is also great, though it goes downhill the last few episodes.
ah…that’s why she looks familiar. she was the nun in “you’re beautiful” right? my daughter loved that drama. unfortunately, i haven’t watched it yet. if and when she gets this role with JW..i’ll be compelled to watch it
in all honesty, i don’t know a lot of korean actresses. but my simple wish is, whomever is chosen..it’ll be an even playing field. someone he’s evenly matched with in more ways than one

I think PSH would look good, she is getting better with every role she is doing, and also her body is agile. She masters so many things, like taekwondo and and kickboxing. I am sure she would do justice to the character being a cute and bad ass thief at the same time.
Want to add the girl who starred on cable drama Girl K. I think her name is Han Groo or something. Her acting wasn’t bad and she is young (or at least i think she is, don’t know her age) and she will look good with Joo Won
. Never see her in any other drama but she can do badassery and intense really well. I do like to see how she handle a more light and fun role.

To make your day better, Level 7 is not a grand flop. It may not make sense to fans here on dramabeans but it has higher ratings than many other dramas. More importantly, it has garnered new fans for Joo Won. The younger audience and viewers who shy off serious shows like Gaksital. Even the discerning ones in Korea who gave the drama thumbs down are praising him for his acting in Level 7.
In Korea, male actors make hay while the sun shines with military service looming in a couple of years. To fans, there is no such thing such overexposure. I will see how it all works out for you, meanwhile soak yourself in all your bitterness. It’s going to take a long time, so enjoy it at a leisurely pace
JW is adorable, just as he is! I really am turned off by all the artificial faces. Someone who can’t enjoy genuine, human faces should watch anime.

A policeman again, what to do… He’s awesome as a police officer. It’s not an easy role, I dont see many young actors in their 20s or even the post army actors that can play it well. It’s either they dont get the chance to do so or they’re not capable of doing it.
Even the actors in their 30s or more matured one being typecast as a police officer and a gangster. Two most favourite roles in Korean film. Heee.

Park shin Hye looks good with everyone. She also wanted to do an action role. She is athletic too along with lovely and cute. She can act. It’s just that she will be starting her fan meetings from mid march. I don’t know if she will be available at this moment.
As long as the leading lady is not too much older, it will be good.
Shinhye has been confirmed for a mini movie with Yoon Kye Sang in the main lead and director/screen writer Kim Ji-soon to be released in May. With her fan meetings in Asia starting in few days, this movie and her university, it seems highly improbable to start anything else until June July this year…..depending on her stamina too.
I want them to work together too but maybe not this time.
Shinhye is quite busy with her Asian tour, CFs and short movie with Director Kim Ji Woon for Kolon Sport. And she also hinted that she in in a talk for her next melo drama already a few days ago. So I don’t think she would be considered this even it’s offered :/

I like JRW in all the dramas that she has been in. From stars…., the salaryman and king of dramas. She does fit the bill for this one too.
I love L7GCS. Out of all Joo Won’s leading ladies, Choi Kang Hee is the best. I can see that she’s the one who gave Joo Won the confidence in Gil-Ro’s character (even Joo Won himself said that). I dislike watching most of the younger actresses, because they don’t do good intimate scenes. In kissing scenes, all they do is stand still, arms by their sides and lips touching the guy’s and freeze. Even just a simple hug scene, no embracing of the guy. You call this love? All they do is act pretty/cute & innocent. If not because of actresses like Choi Kang Hee, I definitely have given up watching rom-coms. Although she is 10 years older than Joo Won, but this age gap is not showing in the drama.

Just out of curiosity, do people think if the female lead in Level 7 was different, things would be at least a little more bearable?
Because I hear people not really shipping the couple, which in romcom land is a very crucial factor.
I mean, I would ship Chansung and Joo Won, but that’s just me.

i’m conflicted because i feel that this show is plagued with countless problems that not even a different female lead can salvage.
on the otherhand, i also believe that if a different actress were to present Seo Won in a different light/angle, then it might’ve worked.
i suppose we’ll never know.
Agreed, the problem is the non-sensical script, not the acting. I think the actors are fine. Love all the JW bits especially.
completely agree…especially about Joo Won. whenever he’s on screen…he commands my attention. no matter that this show is a “disappointment” (sorry momosa lol), but JOO WON is most definitely not. he’s the biggest consolation. saranghae JW
It’s the writing and story for me. She had better chemistry with freaking Jaejoong in PTB than JW in this drama. So I know it’s not the acting, looks or age. Not sure why she gets all the blame either… There are a lot of problems in this drama, but the lead actress (and lead actor) isn’t one of them.

Hmmm….cop again. Hope there’s something unique about the character like an over enthusiastic cop or a lackadaisical one, whatever. Hopefully not a straight laced type although that might work as well.
It all boils down to the writing. As we can see from Level 7, no matter how interesting the premise is, if the writing fails, it’s doomed. Joo Won is the saving grace of that drama.
It would really be interesting if the roles were switched and he plays the thief. Well, this man can steal anything. After all, he stole my heart. *sigh*
All the subtle and not so subtle shade towards Choi Kang Hee, lovely as usual. Sigh. Anyway, a cop again… exciting. I like him better in more dramatic roles.

I have to say I wouldn’t like Uee to have the role just because I have only seen her in You’re Beautiful and didn’t like her that much.
I have a hard time seeing Park Shin Hye as a kickass thief, so I don’t really want her to be main actress. Although it would be funny that the Baker King stars share a leading lady one after the other.
I don’t know who I want to play the heroine, but she has to be able to match Joo Won well! I’m hopeful
I love Joo-won, but I’m getting tired of all his cop roles. But, this sounds (so far) really cute, so I’ll maybe watch it.
I think I’d like to see the female lead played by someone young and fresh enough to be a good match for him. Like Uee (maybe, since they were so cute together in Ojakkyo Brothers) or maybe Suzy, or Park Shin-hye. At present, I’m leaning towards wanting it to be Park Shin-hye, because she’s my favorite out of those three, and she’s just adorable.
Adorable boy. XD I’ve liked him since Baker King and I never guessed he’d do so well for himself. I feel bad for not watching his other shows, but with you guys having so many recent posts about him I’ve started missing him, and now I really want to check out either Gaksital or Ojakkyo Brothers! Also, there’s a (non-Asian) boy in one of my classes who looks a lot like him. : )
Oh, and my vote goes to Moon Chae Won for sure! Since TPM her projects haven’t really interested me, but I adore her and if she were to star with Joo Won I’d pretty much have to watch!
Moon Chae Won only had one project after TPM, Nice Guy. That’s all.
Oh, my bad. I was counting War of the Arrows as post-TPM. Anyway, I didn’t care for that and haven’t had any interest in watching Nice Guy, but I really really like her and would love to see her in something good soon!
How about Park Se Young? I like her in School 2013 but haven’t watch her in Faith yet. She will be a great match for joo won in this movie.

he’s only been in 4 dramas that i know of. and only paired with rookie actresses in 2 of them. so i don’t really understand your reasoning. personally i don’t mind him being paired with a rookie as long as she’s good. i kinda like park se young – she was badass in school 2013.
I wish Joo Won could have another good drama project within this year for me to strike off the horrid memories of 7LCS. The leads in 7LCS were great but the writing, pace and logic of the drama is like as mentioned logic defying and just outrightly BAD… 7LCS is just like a black spot on his otherwise illustrious resume..
hope that Only You do not disappoint.. I do not want any black spots…
