Moon Geun-young in talks to headline sageuk

There have been rumblings about Moon Geun-young (Alice in Cheongdam-dong) taking on a new historical drama, and it looks like the deal is shaping up — it’s still in “considering favorably” stages, but if contract signing goes off without a hitch, Moon will star in the new MBC sageuk Goddess of Fire Jung-yi, set to follow Gu Family Book later this year. Guess the network isn’t straying from its tried-and-true Monday sageuk lineup anytime soon.
The 32-episode historical drama will be helmed by the PD of Heading to the Ground and the writer of Warrior Baek Dong-soo (too bad it’s not the other way around, as the directing was the better half of Baek Dong-soo). It takes place in late 16th-century Joseon, and will be based on the life of a real historical figure — ceramic artist Baek Pa-sun, who was the first female potter in Joseon. In the Japanese invasions starting in 1592, communities of potters (among other artisans and craftsmen) were forcibly relocated to Japan in an ongoing war of cultural capital. Baek Pa-sun was among those who were uprooted and forced to continue their craft for the Japanese. The drama will follow her eventful life story.
I’m looking forward to seeing Moon Geun-young back in a serious role, (and her first sageuk in five years since Painter of the Wind). I guess she can’t be entirely blamed for Alice or Mary… but she didn’t do anything outstanding with those roles either. Okay, there wasn’t a lot TO DO. Just count me as one of those people who much prefer her serious, darker roles. I like that the drama is taking on an interesting figure in history, in a story that hasn’t been done to death a million times. The casting call is out for her leading man, so start your fantasy draft picks now.
Goddess of Fire Jung-yi will follow Gu Family Book and premieres in June on MBC.

Exciting! I love period pieces. I also loved the Painter of the Wind. I wonder if actual Japanese actors will be cast to lend some realism to this drama.

I know everyone's all about Jung Il-woo for her leading man, but I want Yoo Ah-in to make a sageuk comeback because god knows he looks fiiiiiiiiiiiine with the Mane o'Glory
and also because the memory of Fashion King needs to be erased.

karma does exist..psh fans now are busy protecting him from the rape issue. i wonder if they're checking their posting now..and compare the posting about netizen comment about psh and found similarities,
and they can see..oh my GOD..i am at the same level as them..same LOW and CRUEL.

This is a project I would be interested in.
According to okoala the supposed character of the love interest is Japanese. This would be a great chance for a production actually use a Japanese actor instead of having some really terrible cringe worthy Japanese.
And please accurate costuming for Japanese characters, not cheap bathrobes combined with plastic flowers and chopsticks in their hair like so many other Korean dramas have.

@ilovekimchi Me too, I have more than enough fans crazy! That's why I want our Moonie or associate with someone who has good fans who respect and like MGY fans who respect his co-stars!As you say some fans "PSH" were so vocal and insulting MGY after CDDA! After the scandal "Psh" broke, weird person means more to them I say this what is happening around return! I glad Moonie is kept a low profile since the end of CDDA whether it is or not!
Otherwise for the next co-star MGY, I do not care what I want is to see her hihi

KEEP HER AWAY from Lim JuHwan please. he deserves much better actress to pair up with (even though they are so a few in Kdrama land).
I keep reading about how great actress MGY is and I keep dropping her dramas one after another. MMM and CDA, two of weakest and worst characters I have ever seen in kdramas.

Even as a longtime MGY FAN, I will admit that CDDA and MMM was far from her best work. However if you watch her earlier work and especially Painter of the Wind you will see why many consider her the best of her generation. Although it started to drag majorly in the second half, Cinderella's Sister is also a great example of her abilities. Her ability to give a nuance performance and really display the emotions of complex characters is unmatched . I assure you lim Joo Hwan would feel honored to act with her. There is a reason why is as highly respected as she is amonger her acting peers and seniors.

I would love to see Kim Jae Wook as the male lead. He is fluent in Japanese, has amazing chemistry with Moon Geun Young , and is a solid actor. Plus he is being discharged from the army soon and this would be an awesome return drama for the talented but underrated model turned actor.

@tiredofantigans, great name you got! I second what you said. As some of you said, CDDA is PAST and over with! Too bad, at least for me, I will remember it as one of the most unmemorable comeback pieces for MGY. Though at times I question her choices of drama especially MMM and CDDA, I still enjoy watching her in action despite all.
Just a point for all the anti fans of MGY. Even though you do not like your idol being paired with our beloved MGY, it is still their choice to choose and most of them, I believe would have given their arm just for a chance to act and learn from her. Its ok to say you are to say you are not a fan of MGY as long as you do not cross the line.

not someone who's fans like PSH fans who's mocking here and there about my moonie (karma does exist that they're now too busy to protect him from that rape issue rather than critisize his costar..), so i dont want Yoochun nor Lee minho. their fans as bad as psh's.

What is wrong with Lee min ho fans? I thought lee min ho fans are quiet but supportive. They even supported the huge age gaped imja couple(lee min ho and kim hee sun) in faith. And their fan made videos are fantastic. Even in this site I rarely see lee min ho fans make a fuzz or rave over their idol. It is often that lee min ho get beaten or compared by other stars' fans.

I am not fan Of MGY but really I agree with opinions that wanting actor who really act and without screaming fans me I believe the korean actresses always act well and not getting praise but male actors taking all the praise .
Sorry not MGY alone but most of actresses like that if drama is worse they blamed bcz the story actually not written well .
Me I want MGY to be hero alone yes I am not fan for her but I wish the lights be on her not male actor :(

MGY with Park Yoochun sounds good.... As PYC convinced me in saeguk role, I think they both will have sizzling chemistry....no to lee minho cuz I didnt like him in.saeguk at all....Jung il woo seems a good choice as well!!!

I just finished watching Spring Days -- Jo In Sung and Go Hyun Jung. I can't believe how much Moon Geun Young resembles Go Hyun Jung. Just a taller, older version of MGY. That is what MGY will be like in 15 years. :)
Can't wait for this new sageuk. Hope they find a lead actor who can act, attractive and has great chemistry with MGY. Let's face it -- without chemistry between the leads, nothing is going fly. All the suggestions sound great -- Jung Il Woo, Im Joo Hwon, Kim Rae Won, Kim Jae Wook, etc. as long as the chemistry translate on screen. MGY - hwaiting!
