Flower boy swimmers? Why is this not a drama? There’s a new sports movie about competitive swimming gearing up for production, and School 2013′s Lee Jong-seok and Answer Me 1997′s Seo In-gook have been cast to headline. *Waits for you to picture them shirtless.* I think I’m going to like this movie.
The latest project from the writer of the hit movie The Gift of Room 7 and the ping-pong movie Korea (or As One) is called No Breathing, and stars the pair of young actors as national athletes and up-and-coming star swimmers. Lee Jong-seok’s character is the golden boy, always chasing first place. He lives to win, while Seo In-gook’s character is… wait for it… a genius swimmer who purposely stays as far away from swimming as possible. Insert traumatic past here?
Even though you kind of don’t need a premise beyond flower boy swimmers, I do think Korea (which Lee Jong-seok also starred in) had a great story to tell. So I do expect an uplifting, momentous underdog sports triumphy movie to come out of this. The eye candy will just have to be the cherry on top.
It’s being helmed by a newbie director and starts shooting in May. Lee Jong-seok is busy shooting his sageuk movie The Face Reader, and Seo In-gook has another movie, Police Family, slated to shoot this year as well. No Breathing is planning for a release later this year.
