Jang Nara up to play snooty blind heroine in Dog, Witch, and Me

Jang Nara sure doesn’t like to rest, does she? She only wrapped her last project, KBS’s time-traveling-for-a-second-chance-at-marriage drama Go Back Spouses, two months ago, and already she’s up to take the lead in the upcoming drama titled Dog, Witch, and Me.

Dog, Witch, and Me features a quirky trio at its center: a blind heroine described as a “rude witch” with a cocky and snooty personality, her seeing eye dog that’s utterly devoted to only her, and the hard-working vet who learns that the dog he so lovingly trained has been adopted by the bratty witch and tries to separate them. Aw, poor vet, that’s a losing battle. Then again, maybe it’s ultimately a winner, because it brings him in contact with her, and we can be sure a (hopefully oddball) romance will blossom out of the encounter.

Jang Nara has been offered the role of Ma Ji-soo, a former cellist and heiress who has extreme difficulty communicating and relating to others. Gifted musically, she was schooled at Juilliard, but after she was in a suspicious car accident, she lost her sight, she cursed her fate, and her personality turned haughty.

This project was previously offered to Kang Haneul (Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo), though there’s no word on whether he’s still in the mix. I’d love to see him in a cute romance for once, though I could also see Jang Nara playing opposite any number of leading men. She does have that tendency to spark with practically everyone.

The drama does not yet have a broadcaster or a timeslot, though I’d bet securing Jang Nara to headline would speed up that process in a hurry. I expect to see it out sometime this year.

Seeing Eye founder Morris Frank's secretary was a dear friend of my family. She gave us a tour of the facilities when I was a kid. The original Seeing Eye dog, Buddy, was a German shepherd, as have been many later ones.

4-Hers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania are among the "puppy raisers" who socialize and do basic training of potential Seeing Eye dogs from weaning up to the age of 15 months.

@redfox

There are also poodles.

From a conversation from a man who has one, his comment was poodles are amazing...but the blind handlers have to stay much more aware as poodles can tend to get distracted by their environments.

Oh, the first pooch I thought of is Sip-gyeong the bulldog from Black!

Wrong breed, I know, but hey, it’s a kdrama, why not?

This is unrelated but I would love to see jang nara paired with Yoon Doo-Joon one day preferably in a comedy. I agree that she has great chemistry with however she gets paired. I would love to see jan ha Neil in his first leading role hopefully he is still in :).

The heroine description reminded me of Kim So-hyun's characters from Page Turner. It sounds interesting, so hopefully the writer does a good job.

Good thing she's an heiress. Seoul would probably sink into the bowels of the Earth if someone did a show that expressed the life of a normal middle class Korean dealing with blindness and finding romance.

Required fields are marked *

LOL!
But actually, I thought about it and I asked myself: why not to show a normal middle class handicapped person?? Maybe because it is too hard? But yes, that is why we would relate to them even more.
In page turner they seem all to be middle class people.

Required fields are marked *

Hahahahahahaha
Precisely. I loved the description until I read the word 'heiress'. Why? Why are normal, middle class people so underrepresented in Korean dramas?

Because that would equate to a strange thing called "reality" and I believe some the kdrama audiences especially from their country don't like that much. Kdrama's goal is let you escape reality and enjoy the ride. Fans like seeing the rich struggle, learning to become "regular folk" they cannot do that if they are in any way middle or below those who knows what reality and life is as they live it everyday and are already "regular" with amazing personalities. For balance that's what writers do for the kdrama regular people especially the heroine - the personality is out of this world.

Very, very good point.
I guess Korean audiences prefer a certain kind of escapism - which would explain why My Golden Life is so pupular. However, the rich only struggle for part of the drama. At the end, they have their money and are in an even better position than they were in at the start - re their love lives, sometimes family and more.

In k-dramas only chaebols, candy girls, and black suited gangsters exist in real society. Oh yeah, and corrupt cops and prosecutors.

This also reminds me of JBL, despite my frustration with the H and h, because both mope around too much and that is starting to get annoying. However the drama remains unique despite having cliche elements, is that it has some interesting supporting characters. The cast includes the heroine's lovable friend, who's in a wheelchair, and the hero's sweet friend who seems to have down syndrome. Then there is the Mari character, who is complex; and the grandma character who is deep instead of annoying. It is rare to see such characters be present in dramas.

Anyways, I'm going off on a tangent here.

This sounds so cuuuuuuuuute. Jang Nara + a dog = lots of fluffiness

Is it too early to wish for another Daniel Choi + Jang Nara reunion? I feel like he'd be good at the "OH NO MY FAVORITE PUPPY IS BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY THIS SNOB HEIRESS! LET ME SAVE HIM WITH SILLY PLANS THAT ONLY MAKE ME FALL IN LOVE" thing.

Jang Nara is one actress who can take up to four dramas a year and appear dissimilar enough in each of them so that the viewer never tires of seeing her on screen. I remember each role I’ve seen her in quite distinctly (From ‘Fated To Love You’ to ‘Go Back Spouses’, with a lot of dramas in between). I know she’ll do justice to this role and I can’t wait to see her in this.

I might check this one! Love Jang Na-ra and she never failed us. Hope they get a decent leading man for her, I don't mind if he is not a popular actor (better for me) as long as he acts well, just like Son Ho-joon. About time someone like Lee Sang-yeob or Im Joo-hwan are given an opportunity to be a male lead in drama.

+1, never understand why Im Joo-Han not getting lead roles anymore and it's long overdue for Lee Sang-Yeob to step up.

Anything Jang Nara in, I'm in. It's not just about her acting and having good chemistry with anyone but she has eyes for really good projects. Currently re-watching FTLY, still so good and such a funny and cry your guts out romcom.

This premise did not sound interesting when it was first brought up last year. But with clearer description and Jang Nara onboard, I am getting excited. Too bad Kang Ha Neul has enlisted cause I am sure he would be great in this. Can I dream for Lee Jun Ki? Cause I so want him to break away from "action" genre for once and he is good with dogs too, and not to mention cute as a puppy.

I am up for anything that Jang Nara does but how will she play "snooty"?? She would have to bring in her best acting to convince ppl for even one episode that she is snooty! Will probably still fail by the end of ep 1 when we see that tiny expression shift which would show how she is snooty cuz of her blindness. Yes, I am getting ahead of myself but can't help it! :P

I am okay with any actor who can act well with her! She will be able to bring in the chemistry for sure! :D (Though my mind screams Jung Kyung Ho and Jang Ki Yong at the same time!)

Loved her in Go Back Couple...I'm sure she will rock the role of the snooty blind (ex) heiress. Now that Kang Ha Neul is out (since he's in army), I do wonder who they will pick as the vet. My top choice would be Yoon Kyun Sang (cats lover and pretty good at comedy). Then I wouldn't mind Lee Jong Suk, Yang Se Jong, Namgung min, Kim Ji Hoon (too good to only play second fiddle) or Kim Nam Gil (too soon to go back to dramaland?!?)

I was thinking if it was cancelled, because I didn't see any news, i think it could be very good and I love her, so I'm happy : )

And it's good to change a little bit, she's being "arrogant" and not him, in most dramas it is the opposite.

now if this was a Taiwanese drama the dog would either be able to talk or the viewer could hear/see the dogs thoughts, heck why not go all the way and have the dog turn human from time to time, no need for a second lead that way lol
But really JN has not said yes as yet, her company has just said she looking at it and 'other' offers. She big on animals though always busy promoting animal care, so that may tip her over to taking on the role.
