The Untamed Obsession continues

I chanced upon a tumblr blogger who translated an interesting article on the show – “20 Things About Chen Qing Ling”. the story behind the production, the actors, the filming and more. There’s the original on weibo https://www.weibo.com/ttarticle/p/show?id=2309404395435434311880 and the blogger’s english translations on her tumblr account https://midorigable.tumblr.com/post/186575125770/20-things-about-the-untamed-part-1-part-1-part

Look at this, aren’t their beauty a work of art?

I welcome any tags relating to The Untamed or Mo Dao Zu Shi. I’m not over it yet. I don’t know when that will happen or if it will happen. I don’t think I want to be over it at all. 🤣🤣🤣

Ya’ know, every time I think I’m about to get over it, you do something like this.
Beautiful work of art. I have something similar as my desktop background.

Don’t stop! Like @shach I love all the posts that are The Untamed or Chinese drama related. Since I really only get my cdrama interactions from other Beanies I love seeing posts about them. ☺️

      I only left for a few hours…
Thank you ever so much for posting this link. Wow, it adds so much depth to our understanding and love for this drama and the actors.
I’m glad I’d read the post about the meaning of “confidant” to Chinese speaking, because in English the word “soulmate” translates better for my understanding. And the tumblr article mentioned the words “special confidant”.

Now with both the “final edit” on Viki and the changes in translation they made, and this article that gives more insights, it’s demanding another re-watch.
Besides, I’ve tried multiple other dramas, both new and on my re-watch list, but now they all seem so contrived.

It was definitely more than being a confidant as used in English. In this interview, she described the relationship between WWX and LWJ as knowing/understanding each other fully and trusting each other perfectly. They were of one mind, having the same beliefs and principles. Note: I am paraphrasing.

I believe that these key people who were behind the screenplay, direction and production understood and bought into WangXian. That is why they could produce such an outcome.

Remember we were just discussing whether if it’s the director and actor’s fault that the outcome is bad. From this article, we can see and read the thinking, the approach and work that goes on behind a successful storytelling.

I’ve been trying to watch some of the dramas I’d seen previously and now it’s so obvious the story is so contrived because there has to be a male/female romance, with the usual 3rd party triangle, using all the same tropes.
With The Untamed’s popularity I wonder if they’ll try to make similar dramas and as usual not get the point of this one. I heard there are dozens of BL novels now wanting to be made into dramas. I’ve read so many articles lately I’ve no clue where I heard this – was it from you, ha?

i.e. most dramas are only about the romance (not that there’s anything wrong with that, I’m just bored with it). I was speaking in particular about The Legends (Xu Kai), Granting You A Dreamlike Life, and Legend of Fuyao. They used to be favorites of mine. Golden Eyes has the annoying third party female triangle with the usual tropes, and most other dramas – I could go on.

No, I didn’t post any articles on that.

I am fine with romance as long as it’s not contrived – those turn me off instantly.

Trying to think of some dramas with romance I didn’t feel were contrived. Since I’ve only started cdramas recently, most of my favs are kdramas: Just Between Lovers, Because this is my first life, Heart to Heart to name a few. I liked the cdrama The Evolution of Our Love (it got really low ratings?) the Chinese remake of In Time With You.

@outofthisworld, I have to share it, I bet he wished for a sharp sword at that moment 😀 https://centkent.blogspot.com/2019/09/wang-yibo-is-endearingly-cute-as-he.html

      Thanks @shach!

I’ve been ‘researching’ intensively on WYB. Most of the video clips and articles are about him being unintentionally funny or cute. His frankness is legendary.

Were you the one who said that you are more concerned about scandals because of his youth? He is notorious for being ‘cold’ towards ladies. Maybe it’s his strategy or something. A motorbike as a girlfriend is much easier to handle.

If you have something funny to share please do! I was worried at first but knowing now how long he is already in the business, it is different from others young actors that shot to fame fast and has unsavoury things coming out.

Gosh, ‘inappropriate word’ swallowed my whole post! I didn’t even save because I wasn’t expecting it.

Wang Yibo being himself is the funniest. A lot of the hilarity comes from his unexpected frank answers. I don’t know how this guy gets away when the whole showbiz is about being polite, faked courtesy(everyone knows but does it. It’s very Chinese in that sense) and all. I now know why @alasecond said you’d think he’s rude but when you watch him, you realize he’s not.

C net is a crazy place. If WYB can find an equilibrium, a place in C entertainment world on more or less his own terms, I’d be happy for him. I already see clips of Xiao Zhan being harassed by overzealous fans, poor guy! He’s learning that fame comes at a price.
