    Has anyone made a compilation of every Lan Zhan smile? Oh, and every time he catches WWX?

    Honestly, I don’t know how this made it past the Chinese censors because it is so obviously a romance.

    My one quibble with the drama is that any female character of consequence was killed off. I suppose the author wasn’t quite sure what to do with them, but I had hoped to see Wen Qing again because she was so interesting. Maybe a story for a season 2?

      Wen Qing is actually a even less significant character in the novel. When the drama was filming parts of the script leaked and it was looking like that the production company was going to make her WY’s love interest. The novel’s fans got understandably mad and petitioned the company to not ruin the story for them. They even told the company that they would boycott the show’s merchandize if the company altered the story. To all the fans’ relief (and mine), the production company decided to stay true to the story, and was able to give us lots of depth between the OTP but still passing censorship.

        I could see where there were times that it could have veered towards a romance with Wen Qing, but am really really glad they didn’t do that. First, because the OTP is perfect, and second, because Wen Qing had enough on her plate without dealing with a boyfriend.

    This cant be easy to do. These teeny tiny movements of his face that convey so much, that we know he is smiling.

    Last night I went to bed, firm in my resolution not to talk any more about Lan Zhan and specifically the actor.

    I wake up and there’s all these temptations on the fanwalls. I’m just gonna upvote. Nothing said, nothing said at all.

        Thanks a lot, I’m now watching all the scenes with slow blinks, etc., and not bothering to read subs. But for me anyway, it’s adding just one more dimension I hadn’t noticed by having to read subtitles.

          I’m sorry? No. No, I’m not. Seriously, I thought it was amazing before I read the novel, but now I can barely look at those gifs.

            Just for a start, I won’t read the novel.

            The novel is a lot more explicit(totally expected) which of course, cannot be portrayed onscreen. In general, everyone(fans of the novel and those new ones who discovered the drama first) is happy with the drama and the portrayal. The unexpected reaction I read online was from a few who thought the drama did much better than the novel in bringing out Wangxian’s love.

            @outofthisworld I thought you’d read the novel (?). It isn’t explicit until the extra chapters (after 113), except one part in chapter 95. But I do agree the drama brought out their love quite beautifully. If I want explicit, I know which chapters to go to. As far as the drama, it was so perfect I think even a kiss or hand holding would have taken away from the beauty. The gazes were far more sensual.

      It was posted on Sept 13 – so how’s that going for you?? Ha, ha, ha. I’ve just “wasted” the last 3 days obsessing, more on DB posts and videos from the fan meet than I have watching the drama.
