Yoon Kye-sang sets his sights on Japan
Yoon Kye-sang is taking his career overseas. Although he’s been in the industry for more than a decade, he’s just now announced his intentions to extend his career abroad, and leaving his longtime management, Sidus HQ, to do it.
Yoon (Who Are You, Crazy for You) had been with Sidus for the past 12 years, starting from his beginnings as a member of kpop group G.O.D., but he has now left to sign with Youyou Entertainment, and will soon be taking his first steps to be active in Japan. A Youyou rep explained that they’re planning on expanding his profile as a Hallyu star in Southeast Asia as well.
To that end, he’ll be holding an April fanmeeting in Japan, for which he is now preparing and which precedes his next drama, Triple, which airs on MBC in June. Although Sidus has gotten some negative press lately (i.e., Jeon Ji-hyun’s cell phone scandal), this move is probably less to do with Sidus itself (Yoon says he has no issues with them, per se), and more of an indication that he wants to take his acting career to the next level — he’s been around for a while but it’s only been in the past several years that he’s pursued acting in earnest. Personally, I don’t care — anything to bring us more Yoon Kye-sang = gooood.
