Joo-won confirmed to headline Green Scalpel

KBS’s new “human medical drama” Green Scalpel has confirmed that Joo-won has signed on to take the leading role. He’ll be reuniting with Ojakkyo Brothers PD Ki Min-soo, and starring as an autistic surgeon who’s genius-level gifted, but has the personality of a ten-year old. With Green Scalpel headed to Mondays and Tuesdays and Uhm Tae-woong’s Sword and Flower set to air on Wednesdays and Thursdays, it’s going to be one happy (and busy) summer for the hyung/dongseng pair.
The new medical drama from writer Park Jae-bum of forensic procedural God’s Quiz stars Joo-won as a miner’s son, who witnessed domestic violence from his father beginning at a very young age. He has a developmental disorder that’s a type of autism, and gets a specialized education at a care center, where they find that he’s a savant. He has genius tendencies, an exceptional memory, and has a keen perception of space within the human body. Well hello there, convenient savant trait. Should come in handy on the operating table.
With the help of a guardian, he eventually becomes a pediatric surgery resident, which is where the bulk of the story will take place. I have no idea how likely all this is in real life, but it sure does make for a good dramatic arc. He’ll also have the personality and social skills of a fourth-grader, so that ought to provide some nice comedy mixed in with all the heartwarming human drama.
The production is full-steam ahead with casting now that Joo-won is confirmed for the lead — Joo Sang-wook is still being courted as a rival doctor, and the search is on for the female lead.
Green Scalpel premieres in August on KBS.

I loved Ojakgyo so much so I have a big hope for this drama. Eventhough the plot still sounds surreal for me (but yeah what is reality in dramaland), this could be a big hit if it's well executed.
And please please pleaseee pick a good female lead, producers! I don't mind if she's older or younger, I just the female lead to be compatible with him. I was a bit disappointed with Choi Kanghee because until the very end of the drama I couldn't think of them as a good couple.

I wonder how it works.. I can see a four year old genius in math but in surgery is a little.. hard to see. It'll be a new thing for sure.

I AM the luckiest fan in the world. This type of drama is something that Joo Won can win an award (no more objections like what happened to Gaksital). As much as I am happy that I will see him in a drama again.. I am still worried about his health. He juggles a lot of works but I guess he really is a hero or should I say Super Hero if he manages to be fine with all his projects.

i don't think so, i saw song jong ki in 3 drama, my precious child, tree with deep root n nice guy, i see he's improve , i see he's good in tree deep root but n nice guy he act like he act in tree with deep root which i thought maru charracter shoul be more deep. Doesn't hate him i think he is good actor but i think joo won is still better actor than him, sorry..............., if joo won fail to portray this role i still think he's better because i already see him in 4 drama n he really act as the charracter he really to be different person each drama

This is very likely my cousin has a form of autism and he excels with computer word, is bilingual (he learned by himself and a little of the nanny) and is the top student. But he still can't get the hang of holding a spoon to eat :D
