Name That Drama: Night blindness and meaty crying

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Name That Drama From a Music Video

    Hey Beanies,

So I was just listening to Onew’s “In Your Eyes” from To The Beautiful You and I realized I had never seen him in a drama before. Then I remembered an MV I had seen from YouTube.

In the scene, he was a student (I think?). And a lady comes into the room to seduce him. At first, he seems scared, but later, as the woman continues to advance, he starts to hit her with the book he’s holding. It isn’t much, sorry, but I really want to know what drama that was. Thanks!

  2. Name That Movie, Extra Difficulty Edition

I would like to know the title of the Korean movie where the father is a tofu business owner, but he has to sell the shop for health reasons. Thanks!

  3. Was she clumsy because she had night blindness?

There’s this drama that aired around 2009, and all I remember is that the girl eventually had night blindness and she was married to this guy, but I think it was an arranged marriage? I also remember that the girl was like the clumsy type and all. I don’t remember whether it was a Korean drama or not, so it’s making it harder for me to figure it out. I just really want to figure it out so badly.

    Thanks. Much love.

  4. Beanies to the rescue!

    Hi,

I am trying to figure out the name of a drama in which an actress (I believe it was Kim Hee-sun) was poor (it was set more in the older days), but she was able to make some money with a peanut cookie recipe. I cannot find it anywhere, and a friend recommended I reach out to you to help solve the puzzle.

  5. There’s so much sad eating in dramaland

    Hello!

I recently just finished watching Oh Hae-young Again and the scene where Eric’s character tells Oh Hae-young that he loved it when her mom put a piece of meat in his bowl reminded me of a drama I watched a long time ago, but I can’t remember what it is and it’s killing me. All I remember is that in the scene, a mother puts a piece of meat/food on the main character’s (I think) plate and he starts quietly crying as he eats. I remember it was a touching moment and I would like to see the drama again. I wish I can remember more–please help. Thank you!!

  6. This one doesn’t ring any bells, so now I’m curious

    Hi Dramabeans!

I hope you can help me find the title of this drama. I remember watching it on the Arirang channel a long time ago. There were two sisters, and one of them died and communicated with the other sister through a computer. Sorry, I can’t remember much aside from those details and me bawling my eyes out. Thank you in advance!

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

3 sounds like It Started with a Kiss 2, they're married and she has night blindness and she's very very clumsy.

I got the impression that her night blindness was getting worse and that it was a sign that she was going to loose her eyesight. Or was it a case that I read up on where the original author was going with it but she died and couldn't finish out the characters direction?

Number 3 is definitely the Taiwanese drama They Kiss Again (if they're married). The original series It Started with a Kiss is before the OTP's marriage.

For the first time I know the answer to one of them.
No. 3 Is Taiwanese Drama - A Playful Kiss 2.
惡作劇之吻2.

I think #5 MIGHT be HEIRS. The scene where Eun Sang's mum gives Young Do a meal and he cries quietly while eating it.

#5 is definitely heirs. The same question was posted in the last Name the drama comments section and it was given a reply. It's the scene where Kim woo bin is fed and he gets all emotional.

I think #5 is Healer. You know that scene when his mother was about to leave and serve him his favorite dish

#5 can also be Baker King Kim Tak Gu, it is emotional
That type of scene seems common lol

At first I thought it was Healer but then the scene happened when the main lead was still a boy, so I think it probably is The Heirs.

5 sounds like Doctor Stranger...The hero's Mom was ill,not recognizing her own son and it was a scene like that, yet again it is a generic one so maybe i'm wrong

#5 I think is I'm sorry, I love you with So JiSub. think I remember a scene where he cries as his mother feeds him and it's extra sad because he can't/chooses not to tell her he's her son

Ok so I found the scene and it's ramen he eats
https://youtu.be/gA2ddwmz3Pk
It's the last episode of the drama and the scene starts at 44 minute mark, I hope this at least helps you elimate a choice

If I remember it correctly, So Ji-sub's Mom didn't put a piece of meat on his meal. He only ate ramyun he asked his mother to cook. But it's true that he cried so much because that ramyun would be the first and the last food she cooked for him. Mom just sat there, had no idea why was this guy asked her to cook ramyun out of nowhere and was so emotional about it.

I think no. 5 is Dream High. I remember clearly when Song Sam dong's mother put food in Jun Guk's spoon. He cried as he ate. very touching.

#5 is Dream High Season 1 (2011) when Song Sam Dong's mum visits him in Seoul and Taecyeon's character is internalizing stuff so when Sam Dong's mum puts meat on his plate he just starts crying. I think. Taecyeon wasn't the main character though...

It's easy to mistake him as the main lead though. I did. I thought he's the main lead since he's the alpha male one and the girl liked him. I was pleasantly surprised when realized that the country bumpkin Sam-dong was the main lead all along.

Concerning number 5: There is a dream sequence in episode 4 of Yong Pal, where the mother feeds Joo Won his favorite stew. Both are crying and she apologizes for leaving him and his sister alone. It was actually pretty touching and stayed in my mind....

#5 - There is a similar scene in "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" episode 9 where So's mother, the queen, puts meat on his dish of rice. He doesn't cry, but finds it very surprising since she had rejected his for his whole life. There is a later scene where he cries due to her renewed rejection. So, I don't think this is what you are looking for, but it does illustrate that this type of scene recurs in various dramas.

#5. Suggestions so far:
"Yong Pal"
"Dream High"
"I'm Sorry, I Love You"
"Doctor Stranger"
"Boys Over Flowers"

I'm adding "Heirs".
I know a lot of people have named off some other ones, but I also recall Kim Woo Bin's character in "Heirs" having a scene like this with Cha Eun Sang's mother. She's feeding him and he gets all choked up as he's been without a mother for so long.

If you want to take a look at the Hairs scene it is epsiode 18 around 10:23. But as mentioned before it is a pretty common k-drama trope I can think of many scenes like that from many shows.

Yep, we need more details for sure.

It's like asking to name a drama in which the main lead got amnesia. Imagine how many suggestions we would have.

#1. Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy?

#5. My bb Kim Jae Wook in Bad Guy (he visits his mom who abandoned him when younger and doesn't know it's him, restaurant and breaks all our hearts as he cries while eating her cooking).

Kim Woo Bin in Heirs (similar set up as above). Honestly this happens so much in dreamland. There could be 50 dramas to choose from.

1. JTBC sitcom Royal Villa (though I have to say that it's almost impossible to watch it with english subtitle)
2. Remind me of weekend drama What's with this family?
5. Dream High

Yes, was going to say #1 sounds like "Welcome to Royal Villa" - Onew plays a student in it, and there is a "seductive" very pretty ghost I think that's after him...it's nearly impossible to find full episodes, let alone subs for this

Yeah.. I only caught several episode cuts from youtube, and it's raw. But I really love the way Onew called the pretty ghost imo, which means Aunt. Totally stopped any advances after she got aunt-zoned.

#3 is probably not Taiwanese but the Korean version. Playful Kiss came out in 2010 whereas ISwaK-TKA was 2005 & 2007

#3 This is definitely It Started with a Kiss and the sequel They Kissed Again. What you watched is part of the second season. There were three versions of the drama (Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese) but it was based off of a Japanese manga series.

There's also a Thai version and I think the Thai leading lady is far and away the best version. NOT overreacted. Sweet and simple but not so deathly moronic that you want to put your head through the nearest window every episode. She actually makes all the tropes seem fresh and logical.
