Drama viewership ratings for the week of May 13-19, 2019

Going into this week, there were quite a lot of changes to report. First, after weeks of My Fellow Citizens and Special Labor Inspector Jo being in a tight race, the latter took the upper hand. And over on cable, the second season of Woohoo Waikiki ended to 1.5 percent.

On Wednesday, Doctor Prisoner also ended, bringing in its highest rating of 15.8 percent. It looks like the end of this show did a lot of good for its competition The Banker, which had a jump in numbers the following day. The newcomer My Absolute Boyfriend, however, was off to a rough start. I do hope it gains some traction because I truly adore the cast and the original manga.

Finally, the weekend dramas, as always, brought in the most numbers. A Beautiful World is still going strong with 4.3 percent, and the third season of Voice is right behind it with 3.8 percent. I guess viewers are really into the darker shows these days.

HPL is really refreshing, I love how the leads actually talk and apologize. Plus the BTS clips are awesome! PMY & KJW are so natural it doesn't even look like acting

Hoping for Nokdu Flower to gain some more viewership as it is a solid drama overall..

Watched the first eps of TSLOMS but kinda reluctant to continue.. I was hoping for another good drama for KYK but I still have feels for his character in Lookout. Maybe I'll try catching up with this one to see where it goes..

I can't understand how is it possible that Different Dreams has already lost viewers and fell under 5% on a major network???
This drama is so largely superior to Mr Sunshine, a blockbuster without soul and heart that still managed to reach 18% on a cable network!
I know the competition (Nokdu Flower) on saturday is hard to beat but still K-dramaland is a sad world these days...

And Rescue me 2/Save me 2 can't even reach 2% with a such a solid ensemble cast?
Maybe viewers have too much choice. They can't appreciate anymore what's good or not...

Too many to choose from. NOKDU and DIFFERENT DREAMS are both historical and heavy dramas. Family dramas will always rule the weekends.

It's a good point: saturday is probably not the best spot for heavy historical dramas.

Tvn's ARTHDAL CHRONICLES is going to be on a Sat/Sun slot in 2 weeks so the rating will be interesting.

The ratings for Different Dreams will certainly hit a new low.:(
However it won't last since Arthdal Chronicles is split in 3 seasons and apparently only the first 6 episodes will air in june.

Looks like 12 eps from June - July, then 6 more starting September.

I just saw new pics and vids from Arthdal Chronicles and i don't know more: the drama has really odd visuals... It doesn"t appeal to me despite its star studded cast: i might watch the 1st episode for kIm Ok Vin but that's all.

On weekends i think it's safe to say that KBS will almost always smash all the other public broadcasters no matter what...

It’s a shame about Different Dreams. I like it a lot but it is a heavy historical. Still, I have to shake my head that a drama like its predecessor, Love in Sadness, got higher ratings.

Most of the audience is in for Over the top media. Rest of it is done by good PR and hype.
Time slot plays a major role. MBS must have a team that collects, interpret time and ratings related data as well as audience demography+preferences. So, i don't think time slot is the problem here. Audience preference is.

To be honest, the drama is getting zero promotion by MBC. The 4 episodes are being broadcast back to back on the same night and between each week, we don't even have articles about the drama. I feel lucky that they're still releasing the ost!
But it's not easy watch for sure: new characters are introduced every week, just like new locations, all wrapped in a very fast pace. You really need to rewatch to catch all the details...

Now that Doctor Prisoner is over (after sucking all the ratings air out of the room) it will be interesting to see what takes its place. You can see everything picking up points on day two.

I don't see how The Abyss is even getting the 3 percent that it is getting. Many decent shows never pulled out of the two percent range and this one is all over the map.

Nokdu flower is one of those that I have watched three episodes and can feel the upcoming pain and pathos, so it is hard to continue (really sad shows leave me depressed for weeks)

I think KBS has a chance to continue dominating the wed-thurs timeslot. Poon Sang got maybe 20%, then Dr Prisoner got +15%. The upcominh drama My Love, Dan seems insteresting and constantly promoted. Viewers might flock to watch that.

I'm surprised (grateful?) KBS didn't extend Doctor Prisoner by one more hour and let it finish according to plan despite the high ratings. I like the ending because it pulled things together. I imagine an extra hour would've thrown the pace off.

Happy for the little increase in Inspector Jo and really hope The Secret Life of My Secretary will get better because i think it's good along with Her Private Life!

Overwall with some little exceptions the ratings are quite sad(thinking without wanting of the past years when we got 15-28% for a weekday public broadcast)

Gone are the days where the ratings of the public broadcast can easily reach 20 and up. So many media platforms available now and also, cable has better dramas and content so public broadcast should learn a thing or two from them. It would be interesting which drama wil rule the wed-thurs slot. MBC and KBS will premiere their new shows. I hope spring night rates well😁
