First stills of Choi Jin-hyuk and casting news for Zombie Detective

Production for KBS’s upcoming comedy Zombie Detective (working title) is well underway, and the first stills have been released, along with some additional casting news.

Choi Jin-hyuk (Rugal) stars in the drama as Kim Moo-young, who’s been a zombie for 2 years and counting. Although he has some wild characteristics, he’s unlike the zombies we see in most horror films and retains a more human appearance thanks to disciplined practice and effort on his part. As such, he can still blend in among human society and sets out to become a private detective in order to recover all the memories he lost of his former human life.

Joining him in the drama is Tae Hang-ho (Voice 3), who plays Lee Sung-rok. As an established private-eye who runs his own agency, he is committed to delivering customer satisfaction and is willing to use any means in order to get the job done. When Choi Jin-hyuk arrives in the neighborhood and sets up an office across the street from Tae Hang-ho’s detective agency, the two become rivals.

Other cast members confirmed for the drama include Park Joo-hyun (Extracurricular), Hwang Bora (Hyena), and Ahn Se-ha (Queen: Love and War, Abyss) among others.

The drama is a horror-comedy, and knowing that, my interest level has gone up. One of my favorite story plots is when rivalry turns into reluctant friendship, so hopefully the drama allows for some bromance between the two.

It’ll be fun to see Tae Hang-ho play opposite against Choi Jin-hyuk as well since the two actors memorably played the same character An Empress’s Dignity. To refresh your memories, the two shared the role of Na Wang-shik, a man who survives a terrible murder attempt. After his brush with death, Tae’s Wang-shik and transformed into Choi’s Wang-shik and embarked on an epic quest for revenge.

KBS drama Zombie Detective is currently being planned to premiere later this year, following Men Are Men.

Choi Jun Hyuk is super hot, but this drama sounds a complete mess, nothing makes sense, but I'm going to check it out because it can't be worse than Rugal (shudders). 😅😅

Oh see, it CAN be worse than Rugal because this is 2020 and all things are possible, as long as those things are bad.

NOOOOO, lmao, my hope is that if it is bad, it is so bad it is good like Vagabond, so I will enjoy it despite the nonsense.😂😂

Even Rugal gave us some measure of joy in the recap pages. If this was a Vagabond or a Forest and we could bond over how bad it was I'd take it.
'So bad it's good' would be awesome.

Rugal's recaps were the awesomest! I think it was @missvictrix at the finest I have seen on DB since I joined.

wow..i should read the rugal recaps then...the drama made me yawn so i was not even thinking to read the recap..

I loved Vagabond, I will happily take another Vagabond 😄

I thought 2020 couldn't be worse than Forest but then Rugal happened then TKEM then BSR and Men is Men and now Train and this. Everything can be worse this year. Correction everything IS worse this year.

This is might be the one year everyone collectively wants to forget.

2

I know there's already a kdrama 2020 in the works, but they should make another one. The plot? The entire world gets selective amnesia of what they did during the year 2020, and out main characters have to figure out what on earth happened.

1

This is the one amnesia plot I could get behind. Forget 2020 and restart in 2021 with good dramas and everything back to normal. I have never seen so many bad dramas in one year and never again want to.

can someone tell me why rugal was a mess because ive only watched 5 episodes and plan to continue it but people's opinion seem to tell me otherwise

@inkcityxx, I will second @leetennant and say if you enjoy it, don't worry about the rest of us. I thought it was a mess because at some point it devolved from sci-fi to absurd and nonsensical. It didn't make sense within the context of the drama or at all. I stopped watching and simply enjoyed the fabulous recaps.

Well I didn’t really enjoy it because it was a typical revenge plot but I at least thought the sci-fi aspect of it would be cool which is why I wanted to watch it

For me, the drama was very hard to follow. I could never understand the reasons behind what the Rugal team had to do. If they are assigned to save or go after someone, it takes me a while to figure out why that person is relevant/important, and sometimes i never figure out. At some point i just sorta gave up trying to follow the story because it makes no sense. I think Choi Jin Hyuk's acting was also a negative for me.

Lolololol truth. I also started Rugal hoping for something good... his hair choices as it went on though... (ok, there are definitely bigger problems with the show than that, but still).

LMAO I still remember the ridiculous scene where Tae Hang Ho transformed into Choi Jin Hyuk by cutting his hair!

If you need a refresher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16DmIBA1E_8

Anyway is it me or is Choi Jin Hyuk typecast into playing dark and broody investigative roles ever for the past few years? I feel like he's always up to take revenge against someone in his shows.

He is kinda like Yoon Hyun Min who always plays cold broody roles...
Hope he will choose in the future some other kind of genre's or do a romantic comedy for a change or just be funny all smile and wit...
Still gonna watch this and hope it will be entertaining!

At this point, after all the cybernetics, resurrection, body morphing (and now the un-dead), etc., if I saw CJH cast as a grade school teacher, small business owner or low level civil service drudge, it would take me a moment to actually believe it.

I think detective dramas could be more interesting if it was just a side job and the main profession was something else. something where you move around naturally and can also detective. plumber? would be funny. tree climber?

Can anyone explain what is with this zombie fetish in kdramas and kmovies? Is there some cultural context I'm missing? I mean, why zombies? Why not vampires? Or dinosaurs? Or just plain ole ghosts?

I can't wait for the zombie kiss.

He kisses the girl, and his teeth drop out. Then his mouth splits into two. CLACK! The whole of his lower jaw falls off. Followed, slo-mo, by his ENTIRE FACE caving in. Final shot: his head rolls off.

I watched Vampire Prosecutor, Orange Marmalade, Scholar Who Walks the Night. I started Vampire Idol and Blood and dropped them. Even Jung Hae In in Blood couldn't hold me :p

1

@kurama *R.E.S.P.E.C.T.*

0

@pickleddragon LOL

In your case, you can read which dramas are good or not and binge them. You don't have to wait every week and you won't be spending a lot of hours on a drama and be disapointing by the end.

1

Scholar Who Walks the Night was good! I mean, I mostly watched it for Lee Jun Ki and that one actor who reminded me of a vaguely Korean Loki... but it was good! (Lee Jun Ki as a bloodsucking vampire can't NOT be good....)

0

@cozybooks if I have to choose a fantastic sageuk with Lee Jung Ki, I will choose Arang and the Magistrate. This one was really great.

For Scholar, I just remember that Lee Soo Hyuk as villain was pretty hot.

0

@kurama do you know how long it's been since somone 'mentioned' me in a DB comment? I feel so pleased. And yeah, Aarang was great too!

?? Is there another zombie drama I missed? Just curious, since I was wondering if this was the start of a new trend

Two Years
Six projects
From devilish joy to this new 'offering', all of us have matured in one way or another. But apparently his way of choosing projects haven't. Is it only me or does devilish joy seems like a very old faded memory to everyone? Poor guy had a bad enlistment experience and now some badly written dramas. I hope someone arranges a prayer circle for him and to shoo away the bad juju.
