Big Mouth: Episodes 11-12

It’s everyone for themselves this week, but it doesn’t mean they won’t have to work with their enemies to get what they want. Now that we have a ton of dirt on the mayor (and he knows it), the gloves are off and there’s no more pretending. And thanks to our crime-fighting OTP — who come through in a big way — we get to see our hero in no less than four different suits.

Big Mouth Episodes 11-12

Man oh man, the mayor is so bad. And I have to say, I really like Kim Joo-hun in his role here. I’ve seen him too many times as a second lead love interest where I thought he just didn’t quite fit (because, truthfully, he gave me a little bit of a creepy vibe). With this character, creepy comes in handy and he is playing it perfectly. So perfectly that as terrible as he is, I’m liking it.

So much of what happens this week tilts around the change in alliance — or pretend alliance — between the mayor and our heroic OTP. When the mayor figures out that Mi-ho and Chang-ho know about his crimes, he assumes that Chang-ho must be working with Big Mouse and blames Chang-ho for drugging Joo-hee. From there, he stops taking calls from our leading couple and starts setting up antagonizing situations for them. Oh, he also orders them to be killed.

It starts with the new warden who replaces Warden Park. WARDEN GAN (Kim Dong-won) is appointed by the mayor at Chang-ho’s request so they can work together to find Big Mouse. Chang-ho then starts bossing around Warden Gan, making him super angry and ready to devise his own methods for uncovering Big Mouse. Once the mayor stops the niceties with Chang-ho and Mi-ho, he allows the new warden to go ahead with his methods. Namely: tell the entire prison that Chang-ho is a fraud and take away all inmate privileges until they find the real Big Mouse. This causes some upset, but Chang-ho still has a few supporters — which is good because they stop him from being beaten to death on at least two occasions.

Big Mouth Episodes 11-12

Poor Hye-jin is also affected by this broken alliance. We see her in the US, continuing to be an ally to Mi-ho by helping her test the blood samples that Mi-ho took from the inmates. They find that the drug the inmates are receiving is causing leukemia and Mi-ho advises Hye-jin to come back to Korea to get to the bottom of things (why?). As soon as Hye-jin is there, her scumbag husband finds her, turns into a cartoon villain (I mean, this is just bad TV), and murders her. Although, if he didn’t kill her, the mayor was on his way to do it anyway because he knows Hye-jin was the one who tipped off Mi-ho about him. The mayor cleans up the murder scene and Hye-jin is officially “missing.”

It’s about this time that Mayor Choi calls Warden Gan and tells him they’ve been had: Chang-ho and Mi-ho are not looking to take down Big Mouse — they’re working with him. He tells the warden to incite a riot and, in the chaos, to kill Chang-ho and Mi-ho. In the ensuing nutsness, Warden Gan dies (at the hands of Warden Park who — in a world that makes no sense — is now an inmate in the prison). Chang-ho and Mi-ho survive (thanks to some serious butt-kicking skills) but have to ally themselves, at least partially, with Ji-hoon to do it.

Big Mouth Episodes 11-12

Here’s how it goes down. Warden Park thinks Chang-ho betrayed Big Mouse by working with the mayor. Chang-ho says he’s only pretending to be on the mayor’s side. This sparks some interest from the ex-warden, who thinks Big Mouse might be interested in teaming up again. Chang-ho asks for a meeting with Big Mouse that night. Cut to Jerry, on the phone with someone, saying, “Nothing will come of a meeting” (lol this show).

When the power is purposefully cut during the riot, Chang-ho goes to the meeting spot and finds himself face-to-face with his fortunetelling cell mate — ROOM LEADER NOH (Yang Hyung-wook). As viewers, we’ve seen this trick before, so it’s hard to believe any of what happens next. Except, what the room leader says seems to check out.

Big Mouth Episodes 11-12 Big Mouth Episodes 11-12

He claims he’s Big Mouse and that he framed Chang-ho as Big Mouse in order to save his life. When the VIPs wanted to kill Chang-ho for his involvement in their case, “someone” told Big Mouse to save Chang-ho and turning him into Big Mouse was the way to do it. But, at some point, the tables turned and Chang-ho started dragging Big Mouse down.

Room Leader Noh’s wish to Chang-ho in the beginning (back when Chang-ho was claiming to grant wishes) was to find out information about his missing daughter. Now, he tells Chang-ho that he wants Dr. Seo’s paper for the same reason (which makes me wonder: when are the other wishes going to come up again? Aren’t they related to the story somehow?). After some negotiation, and a few threats, the two cook up a plan to get Chang-ho out of prison so he can help find the paper from the outside. The plan is simple: he will turn in Big Mouse.

Big Mouth Episodes 11-12 Big Mouth Episodes 11-12

When it’s evident the guards are about to kill them all during the riot, Chang-ho calls Ji-hoon and tells him to come collect Big Mouse. Chang-ho hands over Room Leader Noh (with his agreement), as well as the blood samples Mi-ho took from the prisoners, and the mayor is there to witness the whole thing (he had stopped by to find out why Warden Gan wasn’t answering his phone). Chang-ho and Mi-ho know the mayor wanted the blood samples and they become antagonistic. Everybody now lays their cards out, making it clear there’s bad blood (literally and figuratively).

Because Chang-ho identified and turned in the real Big Mouse, the charges against him are dropped and he’s freed. His notoriety also brings him a bunch of clients and he rents a giant new law office and starts wearing a new suit every day (finally!). His team can start getting down to business solving Dr. Seo’s murder case — and they have the inmate blood samples to do it. As it turns out, the vials they gave to Ji-hoon were phonies. The big deal about the blood is that it provides evidence of all the cruddy stuff going on at the hospital and the prison, even without having Dr. Seo’s paper in hand.

Big Mouth Episodes 11-12

Since Big Mouse/Room Leader Noh wants to expose the truth about the paper and Dr. Seo’s murder, Chang-ho becomes his attorney. At a press conference, Chang-ho makes it clear that the VIPs (soon to have an appeal trial) are at the bottom of a tower of criminals. He stops short of saying the Elder is at the top, but off-camera says that Hye-jin told him who the boss is (they still don’t know she’s dead, btw).

The show has now set us up for a head-to-head stand-off between the mayor and Chang-ho. Chang-ho knows Mayor Choi is the one that ordered him killed, as well as knowing the mayor’s involvement in the murder of Dr. Seo. There’s also a battle coming between the Elder and his NR Forum “family” and the Big Mouse/Big Mouth team. The mayor, as we know, is an adversary of the Elder as well, but pretends to be on his side in order to carry out a revenge plot having to do with his grandfather’s death. With all these elements in place, we’ve got a three-way showdown that’s about to boil over.

Big Mouth Episodes 11-12

The mayor’s first move in this war is to ask the Elder to post bail for Big Mouse. Once he’s out of prison, it’ll be easier to kill him (or, carry out “justice” as the mayor frames it). When Room Leader Noh is released, Chang-ho takes him to the restaurant where he used to make his living. The restaurant’s logo is the infamous Big Mouse symbol, and Chang-ho wonders how no one could catch Big Mouse when his symbol was right there on the side of the building.

Before Chang-ho leaves, he finally asks who the “someone” is that told Big Mouse to save him back when the VIPs were about to kill him. The answer: come back at 9PM tomorrow and I’ll introduce you. Chang-ho leaves and as Room Leader Noh looks around his restaurant and remembers his life there, he opens a cooler and the whole building explodes.

Holy moly, information overload. And yet, as much as these episodes cleared things up, they also led to new doubts. It seems believable enough that the room leader is Big Mouse but after so much guessing, I didn’t get that excited about this outcome. I realized the only reason I’m interested in Big Mouse at all is because of Chang-ho’s involvement. Now that Chang-ho is on the outside, and Mayor Choi and Big Mouse are arranged as similar opponents, I’m ready for this to become a story about our crime-fighting couple again. I still have a million unanswered questions about the practical details of the storyline, but for now I’m going to look at that as a good thing — because we need to fill another four episodes.

I think this week pretty well told us outright that Jerry is Big Mouse (I mean his name is JERRY) and he got a blink-and-you'll-miss-it Fourth Wall break* that practically had "The Real Big Mouse" in subtitles below it.

*Am remembering this as a fourth-wall break but then I wasn't paying a great deal of attention generally.

But- I actually dropped this last two weeks ago LT, so didn't get to watch the clues myself- don't tell me you're still going after I coerced you with giant drug rats to watch episode 8.

Also if you were watching this for KDY (and I know that you mostly were), you'd have ff'd 99% of this week's episodes because he had, like, one scene.

One day, the world will stop underutilising this amazing, brilliant actor. One day.

This ones on me, gang. I'm fairly new in these parts so ya'll don't know I'm cursed and whenever a kdrama supporting character becomes my fav their screentime drop exponentially. Combine this with Kwak Dong Yeon being criminally underutilized in almost every show he's on and poor Jerry havent got a chance!
On a serious note, I suspects he would have gotten more roles if he was taller and it's a very frustrating option.

2

@coolargo You! How dare you! Probabational beheading just for that! Just kidding, mostly.

Oh but see I have two counter arguments to the darn height thing, and their names are Yeo Jingoo and Yoo Seung Ho!!!!! *grumpy face*

Jerry being BM would mean he actually was in the chapel to take the note, and erased another, unrelated part of the recordings. Thereby he became a BM candidate but was cleared almost immediately-and now he can Big Mouse it up w no suspicion. It would also mean the entire story with his sister and grandma was probably fabricated which means Jihoon just payed a handsome amount of money to LEGALLY get him out of prison, with pocket money for the "sister and grandma"
Those would be ACTUAL cons, an element conspicuously missing from a show about a connman.

HAHA no I don't think so, not... *teehee* logically anyway- the first point you make is the only way for that to make sense if he is Jerry, and what I thought of when it happened, as is him deliberately conning Ji Hoon. Whether or not they choose to be as sensible as us two however, as their show itself is handing their answer to them on a platter... WELL... we all saw what the Minamdang crew landed on 🤣

Thanks to a certain icecream Queen, I am now in the unique position of having picked up a drama halfway through because a) with these writers everything so far is unimportant anyway and b) I was sent some amazing still of a torture trip with giant mice and ended up being sucked into the maelstrom of nonsense.

I enjoyed episode 12 the most of the series so far. I liked the battle couples and I'm glad "big mouse" was finally revealed. I still think Jerry is the other part of the whole big mouse myth.
I was also pleased that I was seemingly right about the room leader haha

The doctor's (ex)wife wasn't surprising but it was sad. It's just seeing an abused wife try and fail to escape that just hurts for me.

Your suit count always brings a smile to my face @dramaddictally! I guess we'll see lots more of those now that Chang-ho's out of the prison browns.
I'm having a lot of fun with how absolutely bonkers this show is. Everything that happens feels predictable and also completely unexpected at the same time - like Mi-ho and that landslide/ mine collapse/ whatever it was.
P.S. Am I the only one who's becoming weirdly fond of Ji-hoon? He's just so loony and incompetent but still funny!

Yes, I warmed up to Ji Hoon like 6 episodes back and the actor's portrayal of the character is outrageously funny. He is written as a caricature villian which makes him more entertaining than Mayor Choi.

3

I think my joy of him originates from him being ridiculed by the narrative- they dont try to make him competent like Changho or Miho, so everytime his scheme ALMOST work it feels like a victory, but when it is evidently snatched from under him, its so funny to watch him break down.

Even the explosion was predictable and not as fun as Vagabond's.
And how does the one who holds the knife to be the one who get stabbed?

No Park seems like a parent for Big Mouse. The one who took the blame, the one who embraced Big Mouse, as a person and maybe as an organization.
Hope he is not dead.
But where's Jerry? Why he is getting less and less screentime? One scene? That's so cruel. Kwak Dongyeon doesn't deserve this.

So far, i think these people are on neutral side: Mayor Choi, Gong Jihoon, No Park, Warden Park, Jerry, Yang Chunsik (had to google his name), Prosecutor Choi. Who else?
To become Big Mouse, that someone must have power but not high enough to draw attention. Just close enough to take a look at everyone.

Finally LJS getting that hairstyle and he looks fcckng handsome. I know people have been debating about his looks. But he is handsome enough for me. Just enough for me to be a fan because i have this strange trust issues for guys who have extremely handsome visual. Should i make the list?😂

But unfortunately, i decided to drop Big Mouth. Man, it's exhausting and draining and this isn't why i watch kdramas (shoutout to M, thank you M💕).
This is LJS' worst project to me. Even worst than Doctor Stranger, at least there was a time I loved and enjoyed it.

PLEASE Im so tired at all these big mouse reveals. I didn't feel an ounce of shock at this reveal (im so disappointed) as I was mostly doubting its credibility instead.

Anyways, I'm glad the show is finally picking up the pace and raising the stakes. (Anyone else shocked at how fearless and badass Mi-ho was just running into disaster?) I've been dying to move on from the prison narrative (the riot sequence was well done) and to get more outside narrative instead.

I'm just hoping the final few eps would be enough to wrap up the show

Agree - as soon as the room leader was revealed as BM I just thought he's yet another placeholder to shield the real BM - and that's if there actually is one. What irritates me about this drama is that no-one ever challenges the motivations, the betrayals, the information discovered ... it's just accepted and we race towards the next incident. Nobody ever asks WHY? So I will - WHY does Park Chang-ho just accept ghd room leader is BM because he says he is? Previously, the warden claimed to be BM and brandished his tattoo when CH seemingly got too close. Who in their right mind would just be content with being told, "I am Big Mouse' when everyone us lying and concealing and manipulating?

Well the answer could be that conversations the viewer is not privy to have happened behind the scenes (lazy writing) and the characters themselves are satisfied with what they have been told, but that's bad drama because we are required to just accept what the characters accept or start asking the questions they apparently neglect to ask.

I also have an issue with how all these sudden leaps forward occur, without seeing even a modicum of the progression. One minute room leader is BM, next CH is suddenly his lawyer with 4 suits, a fancy office, employees, it's just an exhausting rush - all sensation, no explanation. If we sweep all this under the carpet, with it go all the potholes, unlikely coincidences, everything we try and make sense of while it is rushing away from us and new random happenings are rushing towards us.

We have a mine collapse for Mi-ho who rushes in like a kamikaze rescuer, desperately looking for the unhinged serial killer (why? because he saved her by attacking her attackers with his bed frame?) And then amazingly she finds him, even though he looks exactly like everyone else in white and a face mask, covered in dust and rubble. Just what is the significance of this incoherent half-dead, zombie like creature who seems to be involved in more scenes than Jerry or the room leader, and if Mi-ho's unerring instinct is to fixate on him now Dr. Han's wife is dead, we should pay attention because the cast, unlike the viewer is always a step ahead.

Meanwhile CH gets caught in an explosion after musing on how nobody found BM even though his symbol was in plain view outside his restaurant. Did anyone other than CH even work out what his symbol was? In any case, the usual modus operandi of BM was evident in that once he's had his use out of his followers he either eliminates them or allows them to be eliminated.

I could wish for events to start making some sense. All the clues are there. Can we just start working with those instead of piling incident upon incident without drawing a breath? This is like being in the mine collapse AND the restaurant explosion with a sudden unexpected plunge into the Mayor's deep pool, or a dream where the sleeper is trying to run and can't move - bombarded with so many twists and turns, and then suddenly .... Wake Up! Park Chang-ho is out of jail, has a new wardrobe, office, staff, holding press conferences, he has all the answers ...

But who is Big Mouse?

Not the room leader. Maybe not even Jerry (relegated this week to a short phone call in bed, I believe with the room leader who he told to pose as BM). Maybe BM is the serial killer's mother, currently hiding in plain sight on the dodgy cancer ward. That'll be who Jerry was visiting for instructions when he was absent from his own room. 😄

I'm in the minority as I thoroughly enjoy this show, partly because it's mindless fun, but partly because it can get so nonsensical for no reason. For the enjoyment of the comment section, here are such moments:

-the GULL Changho has to pull off an ultimatum for BM when the latter did nothing but save his behind for 9+ cincecative episides. "Show thyself or were not working together anymore" right real threatning dude, this literal criminal mastermind is SHAKING
-then, when BM tried to fool him, Changho did NOT follow the ultimatum and just presented the exact one again.
-and it EFFIN WORKED.
-"you brought me out by the collar.. you were too smart for warden Park..." was he? HOW? He just called yer bluff and did NOTHING to counteract it and then your'e like "nah he"'s a genious actually"
-I would LOVE to know who sent (ex) warden Park, now charged with exploitation and curruption, to the same exact penitentiary he used to run. There is no world where this makes sense- unless its the only penitentiary in the universe?
-(ex) warden Park telling Changho "so you didnt betray us? " Bro I'm pretty sure Changho was never actuvely working with you. Even then, he didnt bettay BM as much as he screwed you, specifically, do to your actions.
-Just the idea of Hye Jin hauling blood vials across borders. Thats it.
-How is the serial killer a model prisoner? Didn't he incite violence in a brawl earlier in the show and outright tried to MURDER Changho???? And actually stabbed RL???
-The fact that Big Mouse l's sigil is a burning sword bewilders me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
-Chaurmen Yang saying he hates traitors and being revealed as a loyal character as if he didnt betray the VIP's.
-There was the scene where Jihoon visits Changho's office offers Changho a place in the family, Changho tells his to stick his offer and call the Elder, and then he leaves. HIS OWN OFFICE. Baby why are you exiting stafe left this is YOUR place tell Jihoon to leave!!!
-the whole press confrence. "Isn't it inappropriate for the person who caught BM to represent him?" (Good point) "actually since I'm his lawyer he confessed to all his crimes :)" (not an answer, and also brings up another question-) "isn't it unethical for a lawyer to act NOT in their client best intrest?" (True) "a lawyer job is not to cover for crimes" (what?)
-ok but if RL pleads the fith, how did they even charge him as big mouse? What are the evidence?
-The show ignores how at the beggining Changho did attempt blackmail (blackmailing the wrong person) and attempted to beribe a judge (which didn't show up to trial...) The only reason Changho shouldn't be persecuted and disbarred is becuase he was too incompetent to pull off those crimes properly.
-LOVE how they try to make Changho look compotent and awesome when he just has main character syndrome. "He might be more dangerous than Big Mouse himself!!!" He just stumbled into this discovery and had a plan that didnt...

Didn't serial killer break ranks and run to the model prisoner line to get vitamins? In which case he seems to have invited himself onto that team and nobody sent him packing.

Mayor's wife suddenly wants a position in some administration because she is shaken to the core by the thing she saw in research lab. So does it mean she is also trying to bring down the Elder? She was born and raised by the Elder, but suddenly gets a wake up call from all the atrocious things he has been doing?

The psychopath prisoner turning loyal towards Mi Ho because she once revived him with CPR and gave him sleeping injections to stop his seizure seems very lazy writing.

This is still entertaining, but so many scenes don't make sense and dragging the reveal of the BM turned to be a negative for thd show because the viewers are skeptical of a weak character being BM.

I was thinking, that revealing who Big mouse was had happened very easily, they basically just revealed it. It was suspicious, only for him to die and now we have another mysterious character to unveil. Considering the fact that Jerry is alive and still there, I think it's him. We know his family, so maybe he was the boyfriend of Big mouses daughter. Who knows!

Contrary to most people here I LOVE this show! This show is so campy and I loved every single minute of it. It feels like watching Mouse (ahem, the other "Mouse" show), but remove the frustration, and double the fun. I do think that the Big Mouse reveal this time is for real though, and there's no more surprise twist on who Big Mouse is. Probably there will be further twist about Jerry, but my prediction is that it's not revolving around the Big Mouse.

I love how Miho is not typically your damsel in distress, but she's not your weak female lead either. She sneak in, she grab information and process it quick. She can fight in her own way as well.
Changho, even though underwent several ridiculous transformation process throughout the series, does not evolve into badass fighter overnight. In eps 12, he still struggle to fight prison wardens until help comes. Its more natural than say, other series where the lead suddenly get super abilities to fight.

And yes, we can start seeing the body count rises from the last leg of this series : started with that doctor's wife, then the replacement wardens, then finally our Big Mouse .... or is it?

I just want to rant about how reckless Mi Ho is 🤯. She walked into a collapsing cave with potential toxic things unprotected? To look for an inmate?

Watching Lee Jong-Suk walk in a suit is such a delight for the eyes 😍 but how reckless of him to leave Ji Hoon in his new office! Any one ever heard of bugs?

It's funny, because Changho used bugs/recordings SEVERAL times throughout the show
I think it was poor stage directions. A better way to go about it was ending the convo by Changho saying "now get out of my sight" or w/e and Jihoon leaves, frustrated.
The way it is rn is just delightfully silly

He left his own office to walk about in his suit a bit more.

For me, what stood out the most, was the fact that nobody cared about an unknown woman in such a "no one should know about this" area, and yes, she was reckless, to an unnecessary point!

My guess was right about Rl. I feel big mouse is an organisation, quite a number of people having the tatoo. I also think that the prosecutor is also in the big mouse organisation, he stop jihoon from killing CH at the mental hospital, he was with the informat who claim to have seen big mouth died, he could have poison him n he gave a nod to RL when he arrested RL, like they already know. Don't think RL died, he said he wanted to kill CH n there are people who told him not to, i think these people is jerry n the prosecutor. The psycho guy was not given the poison like the other 2 who tried to kill CH n worst, he stab RL but was not killed n how is he model prisioner, unless, he is part of big mouse organisation, whose intention was to bring down the elder n his criminal business, that is why hd is going to the site. I feel this drama is not about who n how bad big mouse but to find evidence to proof what sinister business elder is doing. I was puzzled why bring hye jin back to korea, so she can help to test the blood sample. Typically, in most drama, CH should ask jihoon to leave but CH leaving, jihoon ultimately has to leave n CH isn't going to cut jihoon off cos he wants jihoon to bring the message to elder to meet CH. Mayor, he is a complicate guy, is he taking revenge on elder but he is also covering up the murder, why doesn't he send dr han fo prison. 4 more episodes hope it wrap up nice n cool. Awesome directing, ya, agree, as a nurse, miho should at least have face mask to protect herself but then, she does not have n it will feel wierd if she pulls out one cos, she does not know what the hell they are doing in the tunnel n explode.

I have been saying that I think Jerry is the other part of the Big Mouse conspiracy group/thing/myth and while I stand by that, now I'm wondering if there's a 3rd person. Intially, I thought it was Mi Ho's father just because it felt like something was slightly untrustworthy about him, I guess? I don't even know but it did cross my mind but NOW, I'm wondering if was Chang Ho's best friend/lawyer.
It makes sense that he would have access to things on the outside such as planting the evidence that led to Chang Ho being turned into Big Mouse. He would have a reason for wanting Chang Ho to live. He would knowledge from all involved because he could coordinate with the Big Mouse members as well as Chang Ho's people.
It makes sense that someone still has to be controlling chess pieces (such as who was sending notes to Jerry while he was in the hospital)
I don't think the friend was on anyone's mind which makes it perfect for him to be apart of the Big Mouse thing.
