Park Shin-hye, Park Hyung-shik

  • We may have a cute Heirs reunion on the horizon with Park Shin-hye (Sisyphus) and Park Hyung-shik (Soundtrack#1) both in talks for JTBC’s Doctor Slump. The friends-to-lovers medical romance will be written by Baek Sun-woo (What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim) and is planning to broadcast on both JTBC and Netflix in October of 2023. [News]

  • With The Fabulous OTP featured in a new special poster, Netflix has finally confirmed that the series will be kicking off the holiday season with its new release date on December 23. Starring Chae Soo-bin (Rookie Cops), Min-ho (Yumi’s Cells), Park Hee-jung, and Lee Sang-woon (Lovers of the Red Sky), the romance has PD Kim Jung-hyun (At a Distance, Spring Is Green) at the helm with scripts by Kim Ji-hee and Im Jin-sun. [News1]
  • At the Disney showcase in Singapore today, Disney+ announced two dramas that would be returning next year in a second season: Soundtrack #2 and Shadow Detective 2. Reportedly, the former will be with a new cast while the latter continues their story with Lee Sung-min (Reborn Rich), Kyung Su-jin (Mouse), and Lee Hak-joo (Artificial City) reprising their roles. PD Han Dong-hwa will stay on as director as well. [Ilgan Sports]
  • The first script reading stills have dropped (late) for TVING’s upcoming Island, featuring leads Kim Nam-gil (Through the Darkness), Lee Da-hee (Love is for Suckers), Cha Eun-woo (True Beauty), and a silvery blue maned Sung Joon (Perfect Wife). The action-fantasy will be coming to our screens before the year ends on December 30. [News1]

Clockwise: Kim Nam-gil, Lee Da-hee, Sung Joon, Cha Eun-woo

  • Choi Jin-hyuk (Zombie Detective) and L (a.k.a. Kim Myung-soo) (Secret Royal Inspector) are on the casting table for a new MBC drama called Accounting Firm. The office drama is still in the planning stages and, if he accepts, this will be L’s first drama after completing his army service. [Hankook Ilbo]
  • Hwang Min-hyun (Alchemy of Souls) confirmed casting for Useless Lies, joining Kim So-hyun (Love Alarm 2) in a lead role. Written by Seo Jung-eun with PD Nam Sung-woo (Love in Contract) attached to direct, the mystery romance is planning to broadcast next year in 2023. [News1]
  • In the meantime, we’ll be seeing Hwang Min-hyun in tvN’s upcoming Alchemy of Souls 2, which will be launching next week on December 10. The newest poster brings us up, close, and personal again with Lee Jae-wook (Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol) and Go Yoon-jung (Law School). But this time, they’re at least out of the shadows and taking in the warmer light. [News1]

After this one, I pretty much feel that I don't need to watch the show. I'll just gaze at the posters.

Given these posters, wouldn't it be funny if they don't end up together at the end? It would be the ultimate soul shifting shakeout!

I expect them not to end up together (at least in this life) and have all along, so the posters feel like they're teasing us in more ways than one.

All the more reason to skip the show, then, and just continue return to look at the posters twice a week at a regularly scheduled time.

@hacha: How often do you deploy humour to get out of trouble? And does it always work or not? I’m just curious about/envious of funny people who have that up their sleeve.

5

Hacja is definitely funny.

@dncingemma and @mmmmm Thanks for your kind words, but I would say that my "humor" gets me in trouble more than saves me. There are many funny commentators on Dramabeans, though. Of course we are all deadly serious about kdramas, but sometimes its best to laugh through our tears.

@if I don’t like the new pairing and there is no decent friendship developing between the main leads., I will steadfastly pretend these are two entirely different series.

Happy that Park Hyungsik and Park Shinhye will be in a drama together but... with a WWSK writer? I don't even finish (and like) that drama☹

Sound track#2 why keep the name as if it is a sequel but then have a new cast? I wonder if the Sound track brand is going to be the short format approach.

Doctors slump sounds good. So pleased The Fabulous is out this year but hope they do a trigger warning or edited the Halloween event.

Accounting firm needs a different title and genre to avoid being linked to Chief Kim which was my first thought when I read it.

I actually love the idea of a Soundtrack #2 with a similar feel but totally different cast and story. I wish more dramas would go the anthology series route rather than make a season 2 that tries to add on to an already completed story.

Doctor Tracker: story about doctors who chase after doctors who've gone AWOL.

I once saw two doctors reacting to an episode of Hospital Playlist Season 1, and upon reviewing Dr. Chu's burnout storyline, they said that general hospital practitioners do take flight when they can't take it anymore, so on top of treating people, doctors also go on "chumo" duty i.e. bringing back their overworked colleagues who've run away.

I know this is very shallow and maybe unfair but Park Hyung Shik's eyebrows are the reason that I haven't been able to care or root for any of his recent characters.
He had very expressive naturally thick eyebrows before, but has been having them trimmed so much that they are now clearly outlined and unnatural in his very pale face.

Awww I'm glad PSH is back from maternity leave. I completely forgot PHS was in Heirs, I try to block that drama from my mind. I will watch this.

Finally The Fabulous, love CSB.

Excited for Island.

1) I'm happy to see Park Shin-Hye back. I hope it will be a drama with a good character for her because Memories of the Alhambra and Sisyphus: The Myth were focused on the ML... Soundtrack was completely boring and Park Hyung-Shik was bland in this drama.

2) So Faboulous got a new release date!

3) Disney has a lot of projects but still blocks them to the rest of the world...

4) I'm not really interested in this one except for KNG.

5 and 6) We have time. There will be at least 10 news for them before their release...

7) I have no confidence for an satisfying end.

Too many new shows with the number "2" at the end.

It is the western show model that is creeping into k-drama which I do not like.

I didn't expect Park Shin-hye to come back so soon, but I can get behind a friends-to-lovers romance with Park Hyung-shik.

I'm glad The Fabulous got a new release date. I thought they might hold it back longer.

I'm looking forward to Shadow Detective 2.

1. While I like the pairing on paper, I am allergic to Park Shin-hye in medical settings as the world’s number one Doctors hater. And the writer for the show does not inspire confidence in me.

2. I wonder how they re-edited those scenes. Still, I’m glad to see more Chae Soo-bin.

3. Neither are dramas that warrant a second outing, pass.

4. Lots of end-of-the-year December premieres… can we please have one a bit before that? I don’t want to be overwhelmed.

5. Yay for Choi Jin-hyuk. Meh for Kim Myung-soo.

6. Kim So-hyun will be acting circles around him, but I do think her and Hwang Min-hyun will make a cute pair. Gorgeous to look at, that’s for sure. Besides, I think he does pining passably well, so a mystery romance could play to his (currently, limited) acting strengths.

7. I feel like I’m the only person on the entire internet who doesn’t really mind the whole main actress switcheroo drama. Sure, I’m very skeptical of the Hong Sisters’ writing ability to justify it in-world and to land the ending, but nothing against Go Yoon-jung’s Naksu. I really liked the brief glimpses we saw of her in Alchemy of Souls and I hope we see more of that energy going forward. This is not a dig against Jung So-min as an actress or her turn as Mu-deok/Naksu, which was incredible.

You aren't the only one! For a show about soul-switching, the main characters have for the most part remained remarkably un-switched, and it had to happen eventually. I loved Jung So-min in the role but I'm just as prepared to love Go Yoon-jung.

So with you on numbers 1 and 7.

Couldn't get over the fact that ML was FL's teacher when he started having feelings for her, so Doctor's was a no-go for me. It's also cheesy as hell, although I will admit that it has cracky elements that explain why some love it.

As for Alchemy, since the whole premise relied on the idea that someone's soul is in someone else's body, I don't have a problem with the change in actresses. Jung So-min was great, but there's no reason to believe that Go Yoon-jung won't bring a different, but equally successful, energy to the role. And I can tell already that the chemistry will be just fine.
