Jung Yong-hwa solves the case in KBS’s Brain Cooperation

The first teaser for KBS’s upcoming investigative-comedy Brain Cooperation has arrived and our heroes are putting their heads – or, should I say brains – together to solve the case at hand.

In addition to team shenanigans, we can also expect some fun bromance with Jung Yong-hwa (Sell Your Haunted House) as the calculating neuroscientist Shin Ha-ru – a.k.a. “he with the special brain” – and Cha Tae-hyun (Police University) as our friendly neighborhood cop, Geum Myung-se, who is the “altruistic brain” in the group.

Rounding out the main quartet, Kwak Sun-young (Behind Every Star) takes on the part of the “timid brain” investigator Seol So-jung. All the while, Yeh Ji-won (Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol) plays the “sexy brain” Kim Mo-ran – who also happens to be Myung-se’s ex-wife.

The video teaser opens with our neuroscientist hero performing an autopsy and he visits the prison afterwards to present his findings on the case: “Trembling hands, symptoms of shortness of breath and hyperventilation, a stretched blood vessel at the tip of the nose… That woman won’t be the culprit, I don’t think?”

In the sequence that follows, we meet the rest of our main characters as So-jung leads a meeting and Myung-se tracks down suspects. Mo-ran makes her entrance as well and the intermittent text screens read: “The nation’s first investigative neuroscience drama.”

The teaser then comes to a close on Ha-ru’s shining moment as he suddenly calls out to the team to “Stop!” Turning to face the camera in a back lit idol-hero shot worthy of campy glory, Ha-ru announces: “I have found the culprit. Let’s go catch them.”

Written by Park Kyung-sun with PD Lee Jin-seo (Revolutionary Sisters) and PD Gu Sung-joon co-directing, Brain Cooperation is the first up in KBS’s 2023 lineup, premiering January 2 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

You mean you’re NOT excited to watch a drama that is both a medical drama AND a crime drama?!

The only way to make it better would be to add some geeeeeeenius lawyers!

I believe he was a genius lawyer before his traumatic incident caused him to become a neuroscientist who helps solves crimes with the bromantic help of his ghost pal who was murdered by the son of the Chaebol who owns the hospital he works in.

What!? Are you telling me he wasn't also a Joseon psychiatrist who time-traveled to the present? Forget it. I'm not spending time on that one when I can catch up on the cheer leading squad threatened by mysterious killer!

He was in fact a Joseon attorney who time travelled to the present so, close.

also a Joseon psychiatrist who time-traveled

And a zombie. Don't forget zombies.

@elinor
The zombie clams are everywhere whether we acknowledge them or not.

I adore Yeh Ji Won and I like Jung Yong Hwa. I also find Cha Tae Hyun exhausting. Hmmmm

this is why it would be a hard drop for me if I even tried to start it. Cha Tae Hyun is one of the few actors that give me the boring rash and crinkled face. He just rubs me the wrong way so if the other two cannot carry it, I'm out. Or maybe I'm a never started it.

I'll watch anything with Yeh Ji-won, or at least I'll be willing to give the series a try if she's in it. She was in the first K-drama I ever watched.

I would love to share a brain with a really funny person who doesn’t punch down - not to ‘sense’ their angst but only their quick wit - for a few hours each day. It would be a blast.

In other words, you'd want to play the "kind jokester brain" in this drama. I think there could be a place for you in season 2!

It looks so weird... But I will still test. The dramas I thought will be good weren't and vice versa...

There are some dramas that the first thing that comes to mind when you see the trailer is ‘What was everyone smoking when this was pitched to them?’ The second question is ‘How long is the come down for this to actually get made?’
Is this one I will be adding to my watchlist? I am in the long line of beanies saying, ‘That’s a hard no from me too’.

This ... no. Just no.

Why is she pole-dancing? Wait, no, don't tell me anything. Just no.

Once again, the drama beanies are already co-writing in the comments is better than this will ever be.

@elinor It is incredible to me that in this day and age they would still make the woman the "sexy brain." In fact, despite the funny comment of @leetennant, what this drama reminds me of is not the Disney + kdrama Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chieftess, (where because it was Disney they had the main character cross dressing as Pocahontas) but rather an awful seventies movie about ambulance drivers called "Mother, Jugs and Speed" starring the rapist Bill Cosby, the 60s-70s bombshell Raquel Welch, and a pretty good character actor, Harvey Keitel, where as I recall, "Jugs" was Harvey Keitel because his character carried a big bottles of water around.
No, sadly, I'm just joking. "Jugs" is a slang word that I'm very happy has disappeared from the English lexicon. Now I'm just hoping that every remaining outlet of the struggling U.S. chain "Hooters" burns to the ground.

Yes and if it turns out to be a nightmare you regret starting, you will have lots of beanies shaking their heads and saying ‘I told you so’.🤣

Is this like a comic version of 'Sense8'? That's the only way I can figure out how multiple brains work,

I'm totally watching this! I love wacky comedies and I like the genre bending. Bonus points for the cast--Jung Yonghwa is great at comedy and Cha Tae Hyun is always a winner. Hoping for recaps!
