Song Ha-yoon and Donghae reunite in Oh! Young-shim

A cute new poster and video teaser have dropped for ENA’s upcoming Oh! Young-shim, featuring the rom-com’s two leads, Song Ha-yoon (Please Don’t Date Him) and Donghae (God’s Quiz 4).

In a blend of fiction and reality, the drama takes the characters from the 1990’s comic book and animated series Young-shim, imagining a future 20 years later when the two childhood friends are reunited as adults. But the animation itself exists in the drama world as well, with our title heroine’s father being an animator.

As a variety show PD, Young-shim (Song Ha-yoon) had aspired to entertain viewers, just like her two-dimensional namesake. But, as we’re shown in the new teaser, Young-shim has been struggling in her job. With desperation in her eyes, she asks, “Do you know Oh Young-shim?” and we cut to clips of the animation playing on an old TV.

At work, Young-shim stresses about another of her shows getting canceled and she angrily asks her boss why she wasn’t consulted before it was decided. The appearing captions introduce her as a variety show PD of eight years and an “early cancellation icon.”

We then jump to the once shy cutie Wang Kyung-tae (Donghae), who has grown to become a “buzzworthy young and rich CEO” of his own start-up. Drawn like a crumpled up note, the following text screen reads: “The unpredictable romance between the Young-shim and Kyung-tae from our nostalgic memories.”

For reasons not yet known, the two dress up like their comic selves for a photo shoot where they’re told to act affectionately for the camera. Naturally, this leads to squabbling like children and the teaser closes with the staff looking on in shock.

Co-directed by PD Oh Hwan-min (Fly Again) and PD Kim Kyung-eun with scripts by Jeon Sun-young (A DeadbEAT’s Meal), ENA’s Oh! Young-shim premieres on May 15, following Paper Moon in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

The more I read about this I pray to the drama gods that it be everything LiFS was trying to be but failed at.
Oh! Youngshim has to redeem the Reality TV setting that LiFS almost ruined.

And I expect some slapstick silliness.

Don't jinx it please @kurama. We all felt this way about LiFS before it aired a colossal disappointment for most of its time on screen.

am i the only one who thinking that Donghae and Song Hayoon headlining a drama is a combo recipe for trainwreck?
lets not talk about donghae *nonexistence* acting ability; isnt Song Hayoon has multiple failed romcom?

Im so going to watch this only for the ruin. *evil laugh*

This looks really fun. Now I'm going to say literal prayers that it actually is fun like the trailer suggests and not just a trojan horse for a very different drama, lol.

‘ Now I'm going to say literal prayers that it actually is fun like the trailer suggests and not just a trojan horse for a very different drama, lol.’ 👈🏾 love it! This is the phrase I will be using from now on as the category for dramas that sell themselves as rom coms and then bring in random body drops, murder or trucks of doom while staring defiantly at the audience because there was plenty of rom and com included.

@ohsoenthusiastic I knew I would find the comment I was referencing if I looked hard enough and I knew I commented on the genius of the phrase at the time.

Well, I guess we can say that this drama did turn out to be a Trojan Horse.

Just instead of not being the genre it was advertised to be, it was a Trojan Horse of terrible writing, lol.
