Live Your Own Life: Episodes 34-35 (Drama Highlights)

Halmeoni and Tae-ho have a tearful reunion, and all is well with his world again. Following her advice to stay calm and bide his time, Tae-ho doesn’t oppose Tae-min’s promotion to vice chairman — but he declares his intention to eventually compete for the chairmanship position with Tae-min. Halmeoni also makes moves of her own by spreading the rumor that she is still alive among the directors, and revealing herself to the chairman of TV Live. She has proof of illegalities at TV Live and she gives the chairman an ultimatum to either side with her instead of Sook-hyang, or the information will go public. In the meantime, Soo-kyung storms out of the Kang family home, and divorce is on the horizon for her and Tae-min.

On Hyo-shim’s side, her mom stubbornly forges ahead with opening a cafe, and it looks like she’s taking her newly developed independent life goals really seriously. Hyo-sung inadvertently spills to his wife and Ru-bi that Hyo-shim is dating a chaebol heir, and the ladies begin to plan for their future with Taesan Group’s funds. Tsk. Hyo-shim’s boss also finds out that she’s dating Tae-ho, but our long-suffering heroine chooses to quit the job she’d had for ten years rather than tell her boyfriend to find a new gym. Since the client in question is THE Kang Tae-ho, the boss opts to delete the clause prohibiting trainers from dating clients. But Hyo-shim is not particularly pleased that no one cares about what she really wants, everyone is just pushing her to get married to Tae-ho so they can curry favors from her.

Speaking of currying favors, Hyo-do visits Taesan Group to see Tae-min, but he’s kicked out by security. Soo-kyung is also kicked out of the gym when she comes to slap Hyo-shim for breaking up her marriage. Fed up with everything, Hyo-shim returns the slap (!), and heads to her mom’s cafe to cry in her arms. Sook-hyang and Mr. Yeom drum up an embezzlement scandal with the scholarship fund scheme, and Tae-ho gets arrested as a result. Oh dear! Perhaps now that Mi-rim has given up on her actress dreams, she can return to her law firm to defend Tae-ho from the cooked-up charges.

I said it. The very thing Tae-min was protecting him from but he pursued nonetheless.
Live Your Own Life will have to do a lot of good job convincing me to change my stance about Tae-min if they intend to go that route down the drain with Tae-ho competing for Chairmanship.

What will it take for him to see the gem in front of him though, even though that gem stopped thinking with her head and went straight for assault. The man doesn't even pine for Hyo-shim anymore so I don't know why she's directing her vex at her. I understand that Hyo-shim has a hand in how her husband is behaving towards her albeit unintentionally - Hyo-shim represents something that Tae-min doesn't see her representing or embodying. Still, it is no excuse. Do better!

@jerrykuvira, I'm trying to understand your point. Do you want Tae Ho to become Chairman? Or Tae Min?

As far as I understand TM w/r/t to HS, he sees his love as "pure" (Su-kyung's word) and unblemished. He's become a martyr to both her and his father. Although he married SK for all the wrong reasons, his biggest mistake is not even trying to find some good reasons for trying to make something out of it.

I'll be upset if TM's happy ending is painting somewhere in the mountains.

For the corporate drama, I am on Tae-min's side. With everything that's happened so far corporately, I don't think Tae-ho will make the cut as chair of Tae-san.

I'll be very upset should they ruin his marriage.

Thanks for responding. I've always been on Team TM (but NOT with Hyo Shim). I have always feared that Su-kyung was a mere plot device and now see very few options for a happy resolution. Perhaps I am most furious that they actually chose to have a wedding - a broken engagement would have been tolerable, but I very much resent breaking a marriage so casually.

A marriage is just a contract at its core minus all the bells and whistles. Why can’t it be broken as easily and casually as a contract? Why does it have to be freighted with so much angst? They didn’t have sex and Taemin was miserable so at least he will be free from it now. No doubt, this being a soapie, they will be pushed towards each other again in no time.

I think we all gave the writer too much credit to make anchorlady more complex and nuanced. So disappointing

The whole "You destroyed my marriage" thing was just so wrong. This turn of events makes no dramatic sense at all- Su-gyeong knew what the score was to begin with because Tae-min told her and the whole finding the ring thing was ridiculous. Su-gyeong has been portrayed as a very intelligent woman who should simply have place the blame where it belonged- on Tae-min for not letting go of the memory of his fantasy.

The thing about Su-gyeong that is so off dramatically is that professionally she would have learned to dig into the facts and would have discovered that Hyo-shim was not just blameless but that she had a relationship with Tae-ho.

I and others have criticized the writer's fantasies about both the law and corporate governance. The idea that Tae-ho could compete to become Chairman is utter bunk. No board member (or stockholder at the general meeting) would vote to appoint a chairman who has only a few months of experience as part of the company.

I don't think it's she who needs to sit by the mirror. If you ask me I'd say she should sit Tae-min in front of the mirror so he can take a good look at himself and the damage he's doing.

Funny thing is Tae-min knows the damage he's doing. And his mind is hellbent on continuing on this path. I just want to be sure he's okay with him making himself collateral damage to prove his point to the extent he is putting his heart to it. I understand where he is coming from and going to, I , wish that with the mirror he's going know when he's going to stop and get off the train.

Soo-kyung has seen that he meant business when he said those words at their wedding. So she knows that he's not a regular guy that'll just acquiesce simply because you have something to damn him with.

Not arguing with you about TM at all, but why is everyone ok with the TV live father/daughter duo forcing someone to marry them. He was clear that he was not going to roll over from the start. She decided that he would eventually. I don’t find her strong or smart. I find her manipulative and dismissive of his feelings. And with the slap, she only comes across as an archetypal villainess

2

Asha13 makes an excellent point. Also, that slap was more demeaning to SK than to HS.

2

Unable to reply to @asha13 or @oldawyer below, so here is what really happened with su-kyung. 😊😊
1. TM told her that he would never marry her (ref: HIS statement that he turned her down several times) and she said she would learn to get on with her life.
2. Daddy okayed the reporter going to TM/TM's father and approved the first tvshow report (SK: "I only found out 5 minutes before it aired").
3. Meanwhile, TM gets new info (circumstantial) AND - AND - his mother manipulates Chairman to beg TM to "save him".
4. When TM goes to SK and says "let's get married" - she is not aware of the new evidence/information. HE is the one proposing this time and she thinks that he has simply decided give up on Hyo Shim, and move forward with the "arranged marriage". She never knew (until recently) that it was something more significant and related to Daegwallyeong Pass accident. And when she discovered the ring, she realized that TM had not given up on Hyo Shim.

IOW, SK and Dad did not do anything that "forced" TM to marry her. It was Dragon Mom (plus the new info) that pushed TM over the edge.
Whether the writer will remember is another thing, but the sequence of conversations is clear and SK honestly thought that TM had given up his obsession with HS and was willing to marry in order to perhaps stop the bad publicity and even garner good publicity.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. You are welcome. 😊😊😊😊

5

@kathryn51 you’re absolutely right. My recollection was that she admitted prior to her wedding to learning about the specific incident just a few minutes prior but she was aware of the ongoing attempts to force TM to marry her. I recollect that he told her before the wedding that it won’t be a real marriage for him but she was so convinced that she could change him, she didn’t pay attention. I could be wrong about all this, I get confused sometimes, but I am definitely having a hard time thinking of her as smart or strong or even level headed

1

Kathryn51 is correct- it was not SK nor her father that 'forced' TM to propose- it was manipulation by his mom and his father's plea. And she is also right that SK did not know this when he proposed.

That being said she had to be aware that this was not just an indication that TM had 'given up' on SK given the nature of his proposal- which should have earned TM a slap across the face rather than a 'yes'. Did SK engage in the wishful thinking that Kathryn51 posits? No other explanation fits this situation.

1

I hear you all. But to me, the fact that they weren’t successful in their extortion, and that something else pushed him over the line isn’t quite redemption. I have no sympathy for SK or her father. They made their bed

1

I think this was the first time Mom didn't frustrate me - she was busy with her new business, bringing interesting ideas and trying to be independent. I actually may even start believing that she can succeed! 😁

Hyodo on the other hand... still tries to gold dig. 🙄 Security guards on him! 😁😁 He so far doesn't deserve uri hardworking Taehee.

It was sad to see uri hardworking Mirim give up on her dream even if she really has no talent and is better off as a lawyer. I wonder what it will do with Hyojun. Will it give him motivation to study for the bar exam and then join her at the law firm? Or will it give him the push to follow his talent and go back to directing?
(Or... we may go the one-night-stand-consequences route 👶😁)

I first cheered when TV Lady said enough, packed her suitcase and left. But she lost my support the moment she went to vent her anger and frustration to Hyoshim and slapped her (and made a scene at Hyoshim's workplace).
This whole divorce plan of Taemin puzzles me. Why did he get married then?

We reached the embezzlement trap on Taeho, but I'm sure Grandma warned him about the foundation and that they have a backup plan. Btw, that history of TV Dad from Grandma was quite interesting. And not what I would expect.

If she warned him, them shame on the writer because when asked, he told her that he was still working with it. Continuing an illegal program is not a good back-up plan. He should have immediately looked into it and not allowed anything illegal to continue - those foreign transfer are serious and it could also entrap HS's brother. On the other hand, as many of us have pointed out, this writer ignores the legal niceties when she wishes to because those cliff-hangers are more important.

I, for one, am looking forward to the Hyo Do and Tae Min meet-up because according to previews, TM will reunite with Tae Hee again and that's something I've wanted for a very long time because their earlier scenes were lovely.

Today I watched that scene between granny (she no longer merits the courtesy title of Grandmama) and Tae Ho and I owe you an apology because the conversation stopped when she asked about the scholarship fund. So she and TH do have a plan and it includes TH threatening and goading Tae Min - and I can't forgive her for that. Why put TM on the defensive even more and challenge him for the chairmanship??

I know the big target is TM's mother but it also means this Battle of the Cousins isn't real and merely a diversionary tactic. Tae Min has protected the company in her absence and this is how she rewards him?? Did Tae ho tell grandma that Tae min tried to stop the fund?? In fact, what happened to her threat to "tell all" to Tae Min if Dragon Mom went after The Ho?

And as I said a few days ago, Hyo Seong is collateral damage.

I feel cheated of a real corporate battle if one side is simply playing a game.😡😡

I for one was very glad to see Mi-rim pack it in after 3 years. Enough is enough- just because she had a dream of being an actress did not mean she had the talent for it, and now that she knows that she can leave it behind while knowing that she gave it a serious shot and it just did not turn out. It is good that she did give it a serious shot, but it is also good that she stopped. It is time to move on and do what she truly has a talent for- which is lawyering.

I suspect that she will actually be happier with practicing law now that she is no longer burdened by her dream. She may come to realize that just performing on a stage does not hold a candle to making a real difference in the real world lives of real people.

At the beginning of episode 34, when TH goes to hug HS several times in the apartment, she has a cringey expression on her face which continues when he commands her to follow his orders until they were married (didn’t last week she tell him she was not going to get married?) Then he calls HS during her work hours because he is needy (wants to hear her voice) and clingy (would not any rational woman runaway from him?)

A horrible thought occurred to me when SK told TH he was the only person who looks out for her. She offered him anything he wanted but he declined the information so as not to interfere with her marriage. But SK went inside which really infers she was waiting for TH and not TM. Is she planning to have an affair to get her baby? Luckily, that seems not part of the plan.

The succession to chairmanship coupled with inheritance tax is dumbfounding. SK law currently states that inheritance tax is due 60 days from the date of receipt. However, in large estates, it can be paid in installments over five years. As for TM, he would not have inherited anything from TH’s parents. He could have inherited shares from his grandfather or his parents could have gifted shares to him. In any event, selling subsidiaries to pay personal taxes is taking corporate assets for private gain - - - really, embezzlement.

SK whining to her father about her marital plight was another jarring change in her character and personality. Unless she was lighting the media bomb to come. SK sulky and crying behavior at home, throwing her ring and saying she is moving out may have been a weak attempt to get TM “to honor his marital duty” but he is steadfastly against it. SK and the power couple idea can be buried now.

The writer’s exaggeration on Taesan Group was laughable. Samsung, Korea’s largest company, is only worth $380 billion. It infers that Taesan is on par with Apple and Microsoft in sales, revenue and market value. If that is the case, the business politics is even more ridiculous. But Rubi bites on that hook harder than a starving blue fin tuna. And Tae Hee saying her mother sold “all the assets in her name” is another compounding illegality. And the claim of no inheritance is another false statement - - - SK law provides a statutory minimum for heirs even if there is a will that disinherits. It was all written to make Tae Hee look penniless so Hyo-do would stop gold digging and start working.

Mirim is now a former criminal defense and not a trademark attorney? The continuity in this show is a mess. And did I miss Mirim and Hyo-joon having drunken sex in the motel?

Rubi should be a prosecutor as she has some skills in getting TH to answer direct questions about her aunt. But I did like Rubi has the street smart, sour reaction to TH’s insistence that he will marry HS. She senses something is off with him.

Advisor Choi telling TH not to move against Taesan but he goes to the (former?) chief prosecutor shows the writer is at least some...

2

reply

Required fields are marked *

... onsistent reckless conduct. Advisor Choi meeting with her TV CEO frienemy means she is still trying to line up her chess pieces.

TV CEO started his company by stealing Taesan employees and secrets? That was out of left field. But HS telling Hyo-sung that she likes TH because he is like a father to her (whoa, a heaping load of daddy issues out of center field). She has no male friends or colleagues to look up to - - her cloistered life has given her no frame of reference to judge men. If that deep introspection was the writer’s intent, that was way out of right field. Hyo-sung kicking TH down the alley was a highlight moment for Big Brother.

The idle threat of a messy divorce to TM was another new low. SK is not a community property state in divorce proceedings. It is a equitable distribution law based on assets acquired during the marriage - - - which means two months worth of paychecks and stock appreciation, if any. It would be a very simple divorce or annulment. It is so baffling that the writer gets this soooooo wrong but then gets the orphan aging out to adulthood law correct.

I think HS is starting to realize the people around her (except her older brother) want to take advantage of her relationship with TH (like the gym owner). Now, instead of her mother she has more people looking for favors from her. Hee Ju basically tells HS she needs to marry TH to help Hyo-sung. Everyone is trying to “run” HS’s life, including TH.

SK threatening divorce then slapping HS at the gym paints the formerly strong, in control and savvy character as a cartoony, betrayed housewife. It seems this minor character turned into TM foil is slowly getting written out of the show.

For 30 episodes, the show has been circling like a plane burning its fuel for a crash landing. Now, with sudden plot changes, it seems like the plane has run out of fuel and nose-diving to the ground.

If Su-kyung sues for divorce (and TM said he didn't care), then it gets messy and time-consuming. And South Korea is not "no-fault" - so Su-kyung can brings all sorts of negative stuff out in a trial, if she wishes. It was really a very stupid statement by Tae Min.

I do not believe that this writer is so totally ignorant of the law but rather simply blithely ignores it- the writer simply assumes that no matter how much it may actually distort the drama the writer is free to simply represent as law whatever will seemingly move the plot along. But the audience is not as ignorant as writer-nim wants to assume and even an average viewer has to know that what has been prevented is a complete crock of cow by product. Which means that it actually damages the story.

And you also noticed that Mi-rim's field of legal expertise has been altered.

When I did some quick math, it seemed that Tae-san was presented as roughly twice the size of Samsung which is the largest Chaebol (corporate conglomerate).

Yes, to her credit Ru-bi did not approve of Tae-ho- and would indeed be a good prosecutor which would suit her personality far better than being a doctor.

I came here to rant about this weekend, but @welh640 pretty much summed it all up - the corporate legal nonsense; Tae Ho continuing to be the man-child that he was groomed to be; the newly identified "daddy issues" (just in time for the real Dad to show up now that the actor has completed "Elegant Empire"); Grandmama's decision to return from the grave in order to "protect the children" and then failing to inform Tae Ho about why they need protection; Mi-rim's changed legal expertise from trademark to criminal law, etc. etc.

Finally - Su-kyung and Tae Min. I was hoping for better outcome, but if they were going to split, then glad she was the one to do it. But then the slap? What was the point?

In fact, what was the point of the marriage?

And then I realized my worst fear - some characters are simply nothing but pawns on this writer's chessboard. Why the marriage? I guess to remove TM from Hyo Shim's orbit/universe for a few episodes?? Why the slap? I guess so that TM has a reason to re-enter that orbit (based on previews). My-rim appears to be another "pawn" - never really part of any of the other stories or characters so whatever she does is simply to re-arrange the chess pieces. Might as well add Chairman Choi to the list, although he isn't a regular, he was destined to play some role at some point.

Okay, rant over because this weekend included some great direction/camera work. Hyo Seong kicking Tae Ho down the alley. Hyo Jun chasing Mi-rim's taxi down the hill. The Taesan internal investigators marching in and close-ups of removing/boxing up items. WIDE camera shots of Hyo Do getting kicked out of Taesan lobby - I can't recall any scenes like these in TRHC.

Which is why I continue to watch but my investment in the drama took a big nose-dive in value this weekend.

Rooftop Granny was the highlight. I loved how she ripped into TV CEO, though I would be skeptical about enlisting his help. Her calling the villa's people as pure was a little LOL. Doesn't she remember that Hyo-shim's mom lives there?

I'm so on-the-fence with Tae-ho. I think he needs to learn boundaries - calling Hyo-shim in the middle of work really annoyed me. He should have joined a different gym the moment he got together with Hyo-shim, though Hyo-shim is partially at fault there too. I do love how he didn't even break his pleasant expression when dealing with Rubi's questions. Man's like teflon. Hyo-shim liking Tae-ho because he was like the dad she never had was weird, though I guess I sort of get it. He is like the first person who really cared about her and would drop everything to make her feel better.

Some alien or ghost has possessed Hyo-shim's mom, who is suddenly all caring and being like "who hurt my baby girl?" and when for 30 episodes, she acted like Hyo-shim was some heartless bitch. The health smoothie idea seems pretty sound though.

Seeing Mirim give up was sad, but it seemed the most reasonable reaction. Even though she probably can't pursue a career in acting that will feed her, I do hope she can be in a supporting character in at least one thing that would get aired. Just so she can experience it once.

I hope someone runs Hyo-do with a car and gives him amnesia. He needs a total do-over. Is the drama seriously going to continue pairing this gold-digger with a smart, industrious girl, like Tae-hee? It's sickening that now he going to Tae-min to gold-dig there. As if Tae-min doesn't have enough problems.

Sook-kyung seems to exist to slap Hyo-shim and whine about how the man she knew was reluctant to marry her doesn't seem to want to do things like sleep with her and have sex with her.

This is where I get annoyed with the writers. Near the beginning of the drama, Su-kyung told TM that TVLive had plenty of "dirt" on TaeSan Group. And apparently there were a whole bunch of corrupt folks w/in Taesan Group during the Good Old Days of Advisor Granny - the doctor, attorneys, accountants - in fact, Henchman Yeom said that his hands were "dirty" (or "bloody"?) doing work on her behalf. She stood by while her husband beat her oldest son with a golf club. She pressured the police to drop the investigation into the accident that killed her son and DIL.

Reconciliation and redemption are always acceptable if there are satisfactory reasons. Rehabilitation mid-drama w/no rationale is not.

Ever since this information came out, I'm been having double minds about Rooftop Granny.
Her husband did a number on Tae-min's father, her older son so it makes sense that he's disillusioned with the whole corporate nonsense and prefers his life as a shoemaker.
But to stop the police investigations on her second son's death, I don't know what it is she was trying to protect.

I don't think this is pre-produced to a maximum length before it aired. Tae-min's investigation of the accident began sometime in episode 27-28 and the writer has made it a point to mention Granny's cover-up every single time. It's only this week we learn about her passive bystander stance to her eldest son's abuse. Tae-min's dad's disinterest in the company has been established since episode 1-2 and we are getting the explanation for it now. So if you ask me, I don't think they thrashed the initial progression due to the actor switch. It was already in the drawing room.

1

It appears to me that there have been at least two significant course corrections (three if count the most recent personality transplant for Hyo-shim's previously whiny manipulative leech of a mom) for this show which have resulted in a lot of awkward duct tape and bailing wire plot fixes. Some were due to the illness and death of No Yeon-kuk- because even if most of the drama has been shot since he passed the outdoor scenes were done months before that- this would be the footage that would have largely or partly been discarded as no longer useable in many cases.

I suspect that the personality transplant for UEE's mom came about because too many viewers wanted to hurl large objects at their screens when she appeared. As in almost all of them.

3

There is no mystery as to why Hyo-shim's mom received a personality transplant: Not one viewer could have failed to hate her character.

Su-gyeong's character has been wasted. We had a fabulous set-up for an enemies to lovers stary but instead we got this. Perhaps because we had too much screen time consumed watching Hyo-shim's mom lying on the couch.

Tae-min would need to buy a few subsidiary companies in order to legally become Chairman? Or sell a couple of subsidiaries to pay the Gift Tax? This drivel needs to stop. A totally false narrative damages the story. The false legal narrative continues with the statement that Tae-hui has been disinherited.

The first accurate statement of the law in this show came when his mother told Tae-min that Su-gyeong could divorce him for failing to sleep with her.

I was quite intrigued, however, with the conversation that Tae Ho had with our former Anchor Lady now the freshly minted new Mrs. Kang. She is literally offering to answer Tae-ho’s questions simply because he has been kind to her. Her father is now furious with Tae-min and his family (as he should be) but now Grandma has contacted him. It turns out that he is in her debt as he went to school on the scholarship that she provided to him and then built his broadcast empire after that- but Grandma also has proof that he established his company illegally (No explanation again though, beyond the fact that he used former Taesan employees and then abandoned them).

Anchor Lady has thrown her ring at Tae-min and moved out. Unfortunately, she blames the wrong person for this situation simply because she found the ring that Tae-min had bought for our FL and slaps her- it was truly satisfying to see UEE slap her back. We still have no rational explanation of how her now failed marriage would ever have resulted in a takeover of Taesan.

Su-gyeong decided to move out after she confronted Tae-min and he simply responded by starting to say “I’m Warning you…” He did not get to finish the sentence, but it did not matter. This may be the first time that I actually felt an urge to slug him. How could such a capable and intelligent man be so stupid.

I have to wonder who insisted the alleged threat of a takeover of Taesan be included in this drama. It is totally unneeded. In his conversation with Grandma, Chairman Choi provided us with a perfectly good reason for wanting to marry his daughter to Tae-min: It would be the way of permanently protecting him from his past misdeeds. With Su-gyeong as her granddaughter in law Grandma would never breath a word about it and Chairman Choi could sleep soundly at last.

Maybe that is the hidden curse charm of this show? The complete lack of logic?? 😄😄
Why would Taeho refuse SK's offer for more info?
Why is Taemin, who married SK for the good of his father (and the company), behaving so stupidly (and ungentlemanly)?

I think we could find logic behind Grandma's protest against the wedding though, she didn't want Taemin to be associated with the worm TV Dad is, nor does she want Taesan connected with the problematic company TV Live actually is.

The utter lack of logic is distracting though. I can indeed agree with Grandma not wanting to be associated with Chairman Choi but she should have stated it in that way and the writer did not present it that way: That such an association endangered the reputation of Tae-san.

And Tae-min's behavior was indeed both stupid and ungentlemanly just as Su-gyeong's behavior was also far beneath her as well. Both are acting in ways that are inconsistent with what we have seen before from either of them. That is part of what I hated about this- more inconsistency.

TH turning SK down was another stupidity.

It would be the way of permanently protecting him from his past misdeeds. With Su-gyeong as her granddaughter in law Grandma would never breath a word about it and Chairman Choi could sleep soundly at last.

Now this makes sense than a hostile takeover. I guess this writer loves drama but somehow doesn't know how to make it make sense.

If I recall correctly, TV CEO took Taesan employees and technology IP secrets to start his own business (which I think is more than just a TV media company). Why a large corporation like Taesan did not sue him at the very beginning for misappropriation of trade secrets or patent infringement, we will never know.

She seemed to say it was because she pitied him. But the company was not her personal property- she has a duty to her stockholders and should have done precisely that. Failure to do so was a major breach of her duties and she could have been held responsible through a stock-holder's derivative lawsuit. She could have lost her position as well.

“ Her father is now furious with Tae-min and his family (as he should be)” wait what? They literally blackmailed him to marry anchorlady. Where does he get off being furious with him? Not that I’m supporting TM, he is starting to be such a jackass

Chairman Choi is Anchor Lady's father. While they did indeed put pressure on TM in the end it was TM's dad and mom who really forced him. The way that Chairman Choi and his daughter saw it they were actually providing TM with the best possible wife for a Chaebol, which in terms of objective factors is true. They expected that he would get over how it happened, accept the situation and be at least content with it - at least eventually when enough time had passed. Neither father nor daughter were aware of the extreme emotional blackmail applied by TM's parents. If they had been the reaction of TM would have been better understood by them.

The net result of the actual situation is that TM was pushed over the edge emotionally and proceeded to treat Chairman Choi's daughter very shabbily indeed. As you said- he became a jackass. Even if Chairman Choi were not the most wonderful father in Kdramaland no father would tolerate such treatment of his daughter. Regardless of how the marriage happened (and remember that SK and her dad do not know all the facts about that) he would not be human if he were not angry.

Sure. We are repeating the same things. You’re saying that the parents pushed him over the line and what they did was worse. I’m saying that doesn’t make their earlier blackmail null and void. Maybe we can just agree to disagree

Mi-rim has now been told that she should go back to being a lawyer (which she clearly has the talent for) and that she will not be going anywhere as an actress, even though it is her dream, because she does not have the talent for it (as we have all known since this drama began). But she and Hyo-jun have had a night of drunken passion- and we all know what comes of that. We saw Mi-rim give up on acting and be driven away to return to lawyering. Of course, we will see her again.

Ru-bi and Phillip have now met their future uncle Tae-ho and Ru-bi, to her credit, does not approve.

This week’s cliffhanger- the arrest of Tae-ho for embezzlement. We knew this was coming and that Hyo-shim’s Oppa would be dragged into it. BTW- did anyone notice that Mi-rim’s law specialty was switched to having been a criminal defense lawyer? Might that come in handy here? I agree with Unit that we may see her back in all of her legal glory.

From my experience, there is a WIDE gap between criminal defense work and trademark practice specialities.

As for the embezzlement arrest, SK still allows anyone to open up a bank account in someone else's name. It was used in the past by parents opening accounts for their children. In 2014, SK amended the law to provide that you cannot open a borrowed name account for any illegal purpose and the money deposited solely belongs to the title holder. But those changes have not stopped people from using them to money launder.

Yeom put the young accountant in the charity team for the purpose of cooking the books to trap TH. But a glimpse at the report shows page upon page of thousands of bank accounts - - - which directly conflicts the number of open scholarships based on the TH hosted event. (I am wondering if this is the same scheme that TM went to prison for.) If anything, it proves that TH is not business finance expert or very diligent in his work.

Yes, there is a huge difference between the two specialties in the law.

And yes, TH obviously did not know what he was doing- further proof that he is not fit to become Chairman.

TM supposedly went to jail for "bribery".

As for the trademark/criminal defense stupdity- it demonstrates the writer may have had an overall plot for this drama, she was sloppy - or perhaps contemptuous of viewers? At one time, many of us thought that the trademark (intellectual property) expertise would mesh well with the entertainment industry.

Thanks for info regarding joint bank accounts - it helps explain other kdramas where parents/children/guarians/whatever are joint owners of pass-books.

It may be a simple as the director needing a "lawyer" to defend TH, and instead of hiring a new actor, just saying "Mirim is a lawyer, let her defend TH."

This would be the same laziness which had the actress who portrays Hyo-shim's mom portray herself in the flashback scenes from thirty years ago- rather than a younger actress.

At least "Mi-rim is a lawyer" is not quite as disconcerting. It also keeps her in touch with the rest of the crew.

I love that Tae Ho and his grandma are reunited. But fewl bad foe Hyoshim as everyone treats her differently now that her relationship with TaeHo is revealed.
Hyodo is still acting immature. Taemin needs to get his act straight. Taeho need to be smarter as he bid for the chairmanship.

Yes, poor Hyoshim thought she escaped her moochers and started living her own life... and now it starts again.
She and Taeho should just move far far far to the States and live happily there.

Not likely to happen if he is fighting his cousin for the chairman position. Its best Hyoshim does not get involved in that family drama.

I am still finding this show totally enjoyable with its current "full speed ahead" pacing. Obviously, for best enjoyment, one has to adjust one's expectations and realise that you are watching a 50 episode weekender. I'm accustomed to just "going with the flow" and switching my professional brain off in order to enjoy any movies or TV shows (necessary as a scientist).

The highlight was obviously Tae Ho and granny's reunion (kudos to both actors). I have no doubt that the viewers were not treated to the full conversation between them, and all will be revealed later.

Speaking of acting, I wish they had cast an actress capable of a bit more subtlety as the villain, rather than treating us to a screeching pantomime villain. She was similarly bad in Young Lady and Gentleman and I had to FF all her scenes.

As with all the main characters in this drama, none of them are without flaws, including the leads, and the point of a 50 episode drama, I presume, is to show their development. Although the analogy to "like having a dad" was a bit strange (was that a translation issue?), it was clear that she fell for Tae Ho because he sincerely cared for her and took the effort to understand her, something nobody else around her was doing. He is also at heart a kind, thoughtful, decent human being (even if outwardly less obviously so than Hyo Shim), as viewers can tell from his small interactions with the mole co-worker, ex-TV anchor lady, genuinely wanting to help orphans, Hyo Shim's mum...I mean, seriously, you need a lot of kindness and patience to put up with what Hyo Shim's mum threw at him and not run a mile. So despite their flaws, despite having many challenges to overcome, and despite having many things to learn, I do think Tae Ho and Hyo Shim are very good for each other, as the foundation of their relationship is genuine care, kindness and gratitude towards each other.

But it looks like I may have to sit through a few episodes of angst (make it short, writers) before the tables turn in favour of the main leads + granny.

I like how you analyzed their relationship. Tae-ho is indeed essentially a decent and caring person. His law is a lack of judgement- which is why he has been described as a 'man-child'.

@unit, thanks for the highlights !

Well well well.
Here we are , Hyo-shim is fully prepared to do the Noble Idiot thing and throw away what she worked so hard for over 10 years rather than tell Tae-Ho about the conflict . Aigoo !

Tae-ho, obliviously suggests he just buy the gym. The gym owner is a creep.

What exactly is Tae-hee and Hyo-do’s relationship ? It appears as though they cohabitate. She still refers to him as ahjussi. 🤔
Hyo-do is a goofball. I hope he can visit Madam Jang in prison later .

Wow, Hyo-Jun actually seemed somewhat likable or at least less annoying. If Mi-ram does happen to become pregnant, the writer needs to get going on that storyline ASAP. 🤔

Soo-kyung showing up at the gym, behaving irrationally, as well as criminally. 🙄
Early on in the show Hyo-shim was kicking Hyo-do’s butt via martial arts ? I vaguely recall that. So, I think Hyo-shim would be on to this crazy lady having been subjected to her slaps and her rage fests.
I would liked to see Hyo-shim employ some kind of self-defense move to protect herself and not hurt Soo kyung but deflect her attack .
Begone woman ! Your chaebol status holds no power here !

With Granny Choi back amongst the living, I am so disappointed that TV reporter -nim hasn’t picked up on the buzz . Sounds like a scoop.
Aigoo. This show needs a do over of the script !

Bring on Ga-On’s mom already show.

I guess the show will bring the missing father back into
to the Lee’s life, though why exactly at this point in the tale ? Just another screwed up story line. lol.
Where is the chairman at ? Drunk ? The shoe shop ?
Aigoo.

I’ll tune in next week though ! Uee, fighting !

The only good news for the actress- who was out of acting for a few years due to an injury- is that the role seems to have expanded to some extent beyond the original bit part. But it is certainly not a role which will win awards. So at least she has had an opportunity to be seen.
