Kim Ji-won becomes Kim Soo-hyun’s Queen of Tears

Let the pretty commence! The first teaser for tvN’s Queen of Tears has dropped, and while it might not contain anything substantial, the visual pairing of its leads is enough to pique my interest. This Cinderella story stars Kim Soo-hyun (One Ordinary Day) as Baek Hyun-woo, a legal director from a small town, and Kim Ji-won (My Liberation Notes) as Hong Hae-in, the “queen” of Hyun-woo’s public and private life.

After three years of marriage, the couple hits a rough patch, but if the teaser is any indication, there’s a duality to their relationship. As Hyun-woo stares at his wife, he thinks to himself, “Why is she pretty?” and then proceeds to ask again, clearly in denial of his feelings. Even the mere proximity of Hae-in causes his heart to thump, and Hyun-woo counts down from five as he takes a step back from his approaching wife. The teaser asks why his heart is beating, but then the music cuts out, breaking the magic of their happily-ever-after.

Glaring at her husband, Hae-in demands an answer from him, and he shrinks back in fear and fidgets like a schoolboy getting scolded by his teacher. Hyun-woo runs in the night, screaming at the top of his lungs, and finally finds the answer to his question: his heart was beating out of fear. The teaser ends with Hae-in’s laugh, more akin to a villainess than a princess, but regardless of what Hae-in is to Hyun-woo, Kim Ji-won looks absolutely fabulous in both white and black.

While not featured in this teaser, the rest of the cast for Queen of Tears is filled with talented names from Park Sung-hoon (The Kidnapping Day) and Kwak Dong-yeon (Gaus Electronics) to Kim Gab-soo (Today’s Webtoon) and Lee Mi-sook (Perfect Marriage Revenge) — and that’s barely scratching the surface!

The people behind the scenes are also a huge draw with writer Park Ji-eun (Crash Landing on You) making her comeback alongside PDs Jang Young-woo (Bulgalsal – Immortal Souls) and Kim Hee-won (Soundtrack #2, Little Women). tvN’s Queen of Tears is slated for sixteen episodes and premieres March 9 in the Saturday-Sunday slot.

Why is this trailer so short when we have been getting those whole story summaries with every other drama? Hopefully that trailer is coming soon.

It has been such a while since I last watch a good TvN romcom. The cast, the PD's and the writer here makes me want to watch this drama in March.

The fact that they are a married couple makes me SO nervous. That has not ended well in dramaland of late. Pleasepleaseplease end with them having figured out how to have a better, healthier married relationship!

Wow, Park Sung hoon and KDY as .... supporting cast? Or are they guesting? I'm a little tired of KDY always being sidelined tbh. Full 16 ep drama as lead when? PSH at least has a few under his belt, I think)

KDY was the lead in Gaus Electronics. I agree though he is talented enough to be in more lead roles.

Yup that's the only lead role he has gotten so far. Idk maybe I'm old school but I feel like a 12-ep drama is still not a "full drama". pfft. So in my books he's still not got a proper lead role. And the weekender doesn't count.

I think it didn't help that Gaus felt often at times like more of an ensemble than having a true true lead, like a standard drama might. And it was a satire.

Yes it does feel like more of an ensemble. I do hope he gets a meaty lead role soon. I miss seeing him onscreen.

@pickleddragon i was so happy when he landed that role. I get what you mean despite how charming he was in that role, he has the potential to do more.

Kwak Dong-yeon was so cute in "Love in the Moonlight" and showed his depth of acting abilities in "Vinczeno." He seemed to have fun at the "Young Actor's Retreat," too. I'm watching "Big Mouth" for the 1st time and am anxiously waiting to appear on my screen.

He’s really good in IOTNBO despite the very short role. KDY always has amazing screen presence. Hoping he has a good character and the drama catapults him to lead status

So excited for KSH’s comeback! Feels like forever since he’s done a drama and I’m so here for it. But tbh, I was hoping the first trailer was more moody/romantic vs the comedic angle they went for? I know it’s way too short but I wasn’t expecting that. Basically, I’m hoping we get more of a CLOY or YFAS instead of a Producers (despite me loving the latter SO much!) The name of this drama had my hopes high up for some major angst and tears galore lol

Wait for the super long trailer, I am sure your wish shall be granted then.

Lol have my fingers and toes crossed. All I want is lots of tears, angst and moody romance. You can’t call a drama “Queen of Tears” and not have tears of all things

Ahhh it is finally here. The drama with the super stacked cast, an especially enticing and criminal duo of second male leads (as listed according to MDL) and the PDXWriter Combo that I personally think is so morbidly fascinating, for me personally, I would watch just out of sheer curiosity for that, even without the cast.

Also I cannot believe I have gone with KDY on my screen for almost a year a half. SIR.

Kim Ji Won looks really pretty. Reminds me of her character in Heirs.

yep it's the first drama in ten years where she's had that kind of glam rich-girl styling so she looks like Yoo Rachel all grown up

(works for me, I always thought that character would make a more intriguing kdrama female lead than the one we got in Heirs * anyway so I'm fine with it even if she's now opposite Kim Soo-hyun and not Woobin like I wanted back then)

*though I love Park Shin-hye

I love Rachel because she reminds me so much of Blair in Gossip Girl. Her as a FL wouldve been very interesting indeed. I didnt like the candy FL either.
