Premiere Watch: Wedding Impossible

Time slot: Monday-Tuesday
Broadcaster: tvN
Genre: Rom-com
Episode count: 12
Global streamer: Viki

Reasons to watch: It’s a classic rom-com setup: a fraud marriage and the guy who tries to wreck it, thinking it’s real. It doesn’t take a PhD to figure out what’s going to happen next, but isn’t that half the fun? The drama’s premise was enough to lure the edgy Jeon Jong-seo, so color me curious. In this webtoon adaptation, Jeon plays an actress who agrees to contract-marry her bestie Kim Do-wan, but his little bro Moon Sang-min has other plans in mind. Also worth noting that the PD from My Unfamiliar Family and Search Query: WWW is behind the camera, so cheers to that.

TL;DR: Jeon Jong-seo in a drama rom-com

Looking forward to seeing if this survives the four episode test, it looks like a win to win to me but I have learnt that caution is king these days.

I am in this camp, except it doesn't actually look super appealing to me, so low expectations for this one, but I hope it goes above my expectations.

It looks fun and light. With 12 episodes, it limits the weird writing choices!

I find it funny they chose the 2 male actors to make a magazine photoshooting.

Is the groom supposed to be gay? If so, this is not mentioned in any of the publicity stuff. Are they deliberately trying to bury the lead?

Is there such an angle in the story? The plot sounds so very familiar.

Only 12 episodes with very romcom-ish premises? Sign me up.
I am not expecting any master piece or exceptional performances, show.
Just be a good time without any sub-par performances and glaring issues and you will find me tuning in every week.

This feels fresh and light and just what I want to watch right now. As missvictrix mentioned, I'm really curious as to why Jeon Jong-Seo picked this project, so I'm also hoping for a surprise hit. 🤞

I won't miss this for Jeon Jong-seo in a rom-com. I hope she and Moon Sang-min have good romantic chemistry.

I've only seen Jeon Jong-seo in her debut film, "BURNING." I hope she does well in dramas because I am looking forward to watching her in QUEEN WOO.

When I watched Burning, she gave me the thrill of ‘a star is born’ as it’s a very ambiguous character to play - innocent and not innocent at the same time. Apparently the dance scene is kind of impromptu to let her dance in whichever way she likes.

She continues to impress in S1 and S2 Money Heist as the tough as cookie Tokyo - with performance comparable to leads like Yoo Ji-tae and Park Hae-soo. She’s a clear standout of her generation in movies. I’m very surprised that she picks this romcom project.

@kiara if Queen Woo is about the growth of a strong female character, she will no doubt delivers if she can get the sageuk tone and mannerism right.

She did well on her debut, for sure! She reminds me of Kim Go-eun in her debut film. I hope for a similar successful career where she is a solid leading lady in Chungmuro and Dramaland.
She can do an excellent job as Queen Woo, but it's a sageuk, so we'll see.

Gonna try this. I was overwhelmed with January premieres and ended up not choosing anything new to add to my plate (except one). 😅 Now it feels like February didn't have much to offer.

Don't have high expectations for this drama, but I like that the leads are fresh faces and ones I haven't seen in many lead roles.

I didn’t have it on my radar, but seeing it’s already available on Viki US will give it a try, given the PD’s previous works.

Although Ep 1 was only 1 hour 8 minutes, I found it way too lengthy and kept looking at the time which is never a good reason when starting a drama. The FL was great, her friendship with the SML was cute, but that is about it. The initial set up like FL's work life and ML's chaebol life drags too much to the point of boredom. I'm out!

oh! I didn't think it was THAT bad. (but my bar was quite low to start with). you are right, the FL is awesome and I quite enjoyed the dongseong-shi and 'lack of money envelope' scene.
But yeah, crisp editing would have been better. The whole chaebol drama is so boring.
I will probably check out tomorrow's ep and decide.

I agree with everything you've said. Overall, it seems a little bland and flat with rather predictable and uninteresting dialogue and characters. I agree that the FL has potential, and the actress is good, but without a compelling story, I'm not sure this one will be worth watching.

One thing I did really like: Moon Sang Min's voice.

I for one am tuning in for Moon Sang Min. He is one of those whose career I would love to follow, and after the way Song Kang dashed my extremely high hopes of him, I need someone to adore very badly. So I am definitely going all in for the four episodes.

I like my actors to act. He is another of my bias (not as strong as PHS but I did have high hopes on him). I was hoping he would slay it in My Demon (I am one those very few who loved him in Nevertheless) but he is so bland in MD that it hurts my eyes. I am having such a hard time finishing it.
I am also hoping Moon Sang Min aces it. I haven't watched the first episode yet. Let's see.

"I like my actors to act." 😘👌 Awesome!!

I too had high hopes from My Demon but nothing could save it from the hell-fire it became.

I really hope the script is able to give some scope to Moon Sang Min to shine.

I hope so too. As I mentioned elsewhere, an actor does even have to look good (it's a bonus if he does) but if they can bring home a character, I will watch it just for that. Case in point - JJS in CTK. He is not a looker by any stretch of imagination, but boy that man is captivating. Just as NKM won my heart in My Dearest and I loved JunHo in The Red Sleeves, and KTO and KKY in EAW. So many.

Correction: does not even have to look good -

@minniegupta1
Looks have nothing to do with acting and may actually be a distraction in some cases. An actor who makes me root for / identify or engage with / aspire to be THAT character is what I look for in a drama. For all its plot (holes the size of moon craters) Twinkling Watermelon made me want to hang out with the gang. Ryeoun in TW did what he couldn't in Secret Romantic Guesthouse. A good script / PD is also sometimes which makes an actor "act". Till they reach a level where they can effortlessly rise above the script like NKM in My Dearest.

Watched the first episode and I love the main character. She's smart, confident and has high emotional intelligence. I generally hate the contract marriage trope but the setup here has enough realism to be plausible. I am looking forward to more.
