Ji Sung and Jeon Mi-do team up to uncover the Connection

SBS has released a hefty behind-the-scenes clip of the script reading for its upcoming crime thriller Connection. The show stars Ji Sung (Adamas) as detective Jang Jae-kyung of the drug investigations team and Jeon Mi-do (Thirty-Nine) as journalist Oh Yoon-jin.

Jae-kyung is the typical police hero — beloved by his juniors and trusted by his seniors — until a mysterious incident threatens to ruin his career. After spending over a decade solving drug cases, he finds himself on the other side of the law, addicted to drugs. Things aren’t so simple though (are they ever?), and Jae-kyung will have to unravel the connections that led him down this path.

Complicating matters is Oh Yoon-jin, an ambitious reporter who loves money. In order to land an exclusive story, she is willing to become the worst of the worst when it comes to journalism. Thus, the possibility of a detective abusing drugs — and not just any cop but one in the drugs investigation unit — is the type of provocative content she needs.

Playing the role of prosecutor Park Tae-jin is Kwon Yul (Longing for You). A smart and calculating man, Tae-jin is known as the “brain” among his peers, and it just so happens that he was once high school classmates with Jae-kyung. Tae-jin reunites with him after twenty years, but is theirs a happy coincidence or a planned encounter?

Stepping into the role of the villain is Kim Kyung-nam (The One and Only) as third-generation chaebol Won Jong-soo. From a young age, Jong-soo acted like a king, abusing his power and wealth to control others. He also happens to be high school classmates with Jae-kyung, so it seems this twenty-year connection may be linked to our hero’s problems.

In contrast to Jong-soo, classmate-turned-CEO Heo Joo-song played by Jung Soon-won is kind and charming. After the death of their friend, Joo-song is determined to uncover the secret behind it, and teams up with Jae-kyung and Yoon-jin to solve this mystery.

Directed by PDs Kim Moon-kyo (Trolley) and Kwon Da-som (My Demon, Trolley) with scripts penned by Lee Hyun (Diary of a Prosecutor), SBS’s Connection is slated to premiere May 24.

Clockwise: Ji Sung, Jeon Mi-do, Jung Soon-won, Kim Kyung-nam, Kwon Yul

Wow, it will be interesting to see how they portray a main character with a drug addiction when the general population’s response to drug use is so negative. Maybe because the character is a police officer who was so against the use of drugs they will be able to show the complexity of the situation.

Diary of a Prosecutor was one of my favorite dramas for how it dealt with right and wrong in a really interesting way. It was more about personal responsibility and how justice is as complicated and important in small matters as bringing down the corporate baddies. It gives me a bit of trust that the writer can handle the drug situation with nuance as well. I have to wonder if the writer was influenced by the situation with LSK as he was in DoP.

I think some RL influence would be inevitable. Considering the subject matter it needs deft handling and the writer has proven merit. So its a yes for me. 🙋‍♀️

It's the new and improved 30yrolds-playing-highschoolers multiplied by every other age gap fight. Maybe he was held back a couple (thirteen) years 🤭🤭🤭

I barely kept myself from commenting on this, seeing how everyone was excited about the drama. But the age gap is insane that I checked the actors' real age. BTW Kwon Yul is six years younger than Ji-sung but compared to Kim Kyung-nam, it is more convincing.
