Beanie level: Noble idiot

This Kris Wu scandal is turning out to be a lot more serious than originally rumoured.

I know why adorable female leads are a winning formula in East Asian entertainment.

Because acting cute is like the most cringe-worthy thing ever. Shudders.

When Kim Sun-ok was casting actors for TLE, she used Catherine Kim as her pen name so that her script wouldn’t be discriminated against because of her reputation as a makjang writer.

I really liked New Heart so I’m excited about Devil Judge, but looking at the synopsis I’m not sure if KMJ will have much screen time…

Yeah, I think the focus will mainly be on Ji Sung and Jinyoung. Did you see the latest teaser? She and Ji Sung look hot at least.

Looking forward to Devil judge as well!

Penthouse should’ve stopped at season 2. The makjang is getting ridiculous by now.

Not watching but saw where the writer even admitted it makes no sense.

When I was watching episode 12 of SYHH, I was thinking JNR will make a great villain… and now there is gossip are floating around that she might act as an anti-hero for her next role.

I’m really pretty good at these sort of things.

There was once I was thinking about re-watching a show, then it was re-broadcasted on my local channel a few days later.

I also wanted YY and Dilraba together in a drama… then they got cast in You Are My Glory.

What should I wish for next?

    Maybe striking the lottery.

    Ah, that never worked.

Can you please make Kim Bum and Ryu Hye Young reunite in a FLUFFY ROMANCE drama? Thanks, Drama Genie!

I think Kim Sun-ok has lost the plot completely for Penthouse…

She’s great as the badass Hong Ji-ah in SYHH but it’s so funny how in the BTS cuts she’s still the adorable Jang Nara.

Is the Han So-hee in the Nevertheless teasers and posters the same Han So-hee in World of the Married? She\’s styled in the most unflattering manner possible.

I just came across stills of an upcoming drama starring an actress I loved (not because of her acting). It reminded me of how I tried watching her dramas but got put off by her.

It was almost traumatising. You know how sometimes you are blinded by love and you can’t see straight? How fan girls think their oppa is good in everything? I went in thinking I can watch her no matter what, but nope. I also checked local reactions to make sure it’s not just me who’s averse to her acting style, but she’s actually known for bad acting. Nowadays, I occasionally see her casting news and think to myself “oh no”. There are still people who comment that she’s a brilliant actress though, so perhaps she’s improved?

Any chance you’re talking about Cdramas?

      which actress?

She’s got a bit of a following actually, so I’ll keep it to myself 👀

Let me guess: “used to loved” means she is a “sunbae”. A celebrated actress who has an upcoming project, so its between Jun jihyun, jung somin, song hyekyo, shin minah, or my personal favorite (to hate): bae suzy. Am i close? 😅

        0
        1

Hmmm maybe Song Ji Hyo, I’ve always read she isn’t a good actress or it really depends on the role she’s playing.

      Bingo!

OMG. Why did i miss her? She should be no.1 in the option i made. 😂😂.

OMG.. she is so NOT a good actress..

emergency couple = horrific ( i think i saw her in that the first time.. and didn’t connect the dots with her princess diary role.. RM hadn’t happened by then..or maybe had)

She is BAD.. but she still doesn’t trump the leading lady from boys over flower or go ara, or na eun (4 knight cinderella).. or leading lady in wanted (where her child is kidnapped and she has to run a reality show).. those two are the worst..

Oh I wanted Nam Ji Hyun to say no to this drama because there was Song Jo Hyo too. I like her in Running Man but not really as an actress.

Ahaha! First person to mind when I read this is SJH and I opened the comments to see if I was right, and so it was! Bc this is exactly me too after knowing her thru Running Man. I tried, I really did, but after a few movies I decided I’ll just enjoy the RM Ace. At least it cheers me that I can be a bit objective when it comes to my faves.

*shake hands* Yeah, I watched her cuts in the historical dramas she did, Mandate of Heaven, Emergency Couple, Ex-Girlfriends’ Club before I decided it was enough and I cannot torture myself any longer. Now my love has waned a lot.

Anyway, it\’s confirmed that a SYHH special episode will air the day after its finale. I mean, it\’s expected right? KBS literally has nothing to air in that timeslot for the next 3 months.

If MBC and tvN can’t take advantage of this void… then their dramas must suck.

    3

I feel like traditional broadcasters are giving up on week days’ dramas because of the fierce competition from cable networks. I’ve hardly heard anything about KBS, SBS, and MBC these days except for their weekend dramas. It’s kind of sad though.

    1
    1

I think for KBS it might also be because they are broadcasting the Olympics ( I don’t know why this is still ongoing). Other than SBS none of them has got high rated weekend dramas though. KBS’s family makjangs don’t count.

I need to set aside time to study for my interview but I have zero self-discipline.

No rumour on upcoming dramas this month (for the next year) on public and cable networks. It appears that stars will all flock to OTT dramas. Well, money talks.

I just saw the lineup of tvN for later half of 2021 (most of them will end up on Netflix) and man it looks overwhelming. I think I’ll only have time to watch like 1/3 of them. It’s getting wild o.0

    1
    1

Yup, there are some dramas with really strong casts in the latter half of the year.

It makes sense considering that they generally don’t make much money from dramas anyway, right? My understanding was that most of their big cash deals come from endorsements.

    0
    1

According to recent reports, top actors can earn up to 6 figures for a single episode. On the other hand, only those who are favoured by sponsors get to shoot adverts. Most of them have zero endorsement deals, even the relatively well-known ones. I believe for most actors the bulk of their earnings still come from dramas.

Do we watch romcoms to see the leads get together? Nope, we watch them to see the process of them getting together. Emphasis on \”process\”.

I also need to get back to SYHH. I heard JNR was legendary today. Even if the drama isn\’t as entertaining as when it just started out, at least we still get bits and pieces of her awesomeness.

I will probably start on Racket Boys, then binge Move to Heaven. Seems like these two dramas are the safest bests atm.

I didn’t think that would like MTH this much, but I did. It is a little bit on the depressing side imo, but as many have expressed this before I do -It’s wholesome.

I think it’s worth your time.

From the live reactions it seems like SYHH has found its form again. Good news! If I were to re-edit the drama, I\’ll delete all the random useless scenes in episodes 11 and 13 and just move on with the plot. If I were to rewrite the drama, I\’ll stuff another ghost of the day to make things tighter. It could have been a consistently entertaining watch but alas it was not meant to be.

Yay! I’m so happy to hear that! I might even watch it raw in that case!

Someone on DC spoiled a few days ago that the female lead for Chaebol\’s Youngest Son is Shin Hyun-bin. If DC is this reliable, can I also expect a Ji Sung + Jang Nara collaboration next year then?

0

That said I haven’t seen the source, only posts which are treating this as a legit rumour.

There are rumors about a Ji Sung and Jang Nara collaboration? I would love that.

    1
    1

I’ve seen talks of a collaboration for a big KBS drama project next year, but I’m a bit doubtful because I haven’t seen the actual source of the rumours. It might just be people randomly spreading their desired pairings and others misinterpreting it as a real insider tip.

In more recent gossip, apparently the person who broke the news of the scritp reading and male lead casting for SYHH in advance also mentioned that the main cast has other schedules in the second half of the year. In the comments he added that he was referring to the female lead. Take it with a pinch of salt though.

I\’m very curious how quotes are being escaped in Dramabeans\’ database. It seems like sometimes the backslash pops up on the fan wall and other times they don\’t. Weird.

Seems like Racket Boys is off to a good start.
