Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

Winner announced: Sunday, January 29, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

I'd like more film posts and recaps of older shows as well, especially Unstoppable High Kick for the Jung Il Woo completist in me, but most of all I'd like you to work harder to successfully, uh, waylay Lee Min Ho the next time he hits the West Coast. Take one for the team! (j/k!!!)

Dear javabeans and girlfriday, this is my 2012 kdrama wishlist. I kinda feel like I'm writing a Christmas List to my parents...which I still have to do unless I want to end up with 6 pairs of ugly socks. Anyways onto the wishlist...

I know that family dramas take a lot of time to recap especially with the 50+ episodes, but I really appreciate the recap of Ojakkyo Brothers (next on my list to watch, thank you) and would love to recap of A Thousand Kisses. Love that drama!

Ideally it would be great to get finished recaps for some older dramas like Pasta or even the beginning episodes of 1N2D. But that takes time and only 24 hours in one day. Im seriously addicted to the 1N2D recaps. Laugh out loud when Im in the library--funny.

I agree with others that I really would like to see more recaps about movies. 100 days with Mr. Arrogant, 19, Finding Mr. Destiny, etc etc etc. I could go on forever....

I absolutely love the "Extended Glossary" section. I learned so much from the glossary and not to mention all the drama references. It added like 15 more dramas for me to watch... which is ok by me.

While people read a book before going to sleep, I read recaps on dramabeans. Thats how I roll.

I would like to see more movie recaps this year. I haven't been able to watch a lot of kmovies largely because I do not know if I would like them or not. I would tend to judge them based from trailers or very short plot summaries...ah but these do not make up the entire movie. I always enjoy reading your recaps and it makes me want to watch whatever you recapped. ^^

I would love for you guys to do movie recaps & pimp your favorite music/musicians. Also can we have recaps of Family Outing Season 1.

I already love Dramabeans as it is, but I would have to agree with the more mobile friendly thing. Sometimes I'm reading recaps or any featured news on my ipod and it sucks that my screen is too small to see any full pictures, which is part of the experience. Of course I could get on a computer... but that's my two cents.

Also, for dramas that you don't recap but just watch, maybe you could write a small review when it's all over like Princess' Man. Believe it or not, your opinions have a pretty high influence on what dramas I consider watching. :)

I have been a dramabeans reader for about 3 years now. I seriously go on here everyday! U guys are doing a fabulous job! I also want more movie recap. Sometimes I dont have enough time to watch a whole drama so a movie instead would be nice.

Thank you! I'm always eager to come to the site to see the latest recap and news. But may, if possible, add to the site movie reviews. That would be a great addition. And podcast, too. I love listening to you, Javabeans and girlfriday.

Several things I would like to see in Dramabeans in 2012:
1. Recaps of some great old dramas which you love, like Samsooki did for "My Name is Kim Sam Soon". It will be great for us to be able to turn back time and treasure some good memories in our teenager days (or maybe younger ^^).
2. If possible, and if there is someone volunteering, I would like to see recap from a guess, just like the recap of Me Too, Flowers written by Orangy911. I didn't feel interested at all in that drama (mainly due to the first 2 episodes), but after reading his/her recap, I found myself engaged in the story again.
3. Small suggestion: I would love to see more cute icons in our comment part (I think it could be lovely and more lively).
Last but not least, thank you so much for your hard work, Javabean and Girlfriday! I love every piece of your work which makes part of my life (due to my love for Kdrama :D).

Honestly, this blog is super awesome already. For additions, maybe a bit of movie reviews every now and then. I download lots of kdramas but I don't know some of the best movies out there. This is just optional, you know, if you still got time to spare, which I think doesn't exist. I don't know. Haha. But whatever it is you want to do with dramabeans, I know it would be for the best. Keep up the great work and happy birthday again. I would still be here greeting you as long as I can. Long live, Dramabeans! :D

I would love to see more movie reviews, and more posts like these (ie updates in JB-GF conversation format) - they always crack me up :D and perhaps more explanatory posts on Korean culture (like the noona, oppa ones) - I find that they help me understand korean dramas better and they're always so interesting to read. I'm getting a little greedy here haha :S

Once again, thanks for the giveaway and happy 5 year anniversary to DB!

First of all, thank you so much for all the effort you put into this site. I depend on your site so much! Before I watch anything, I always check your site to see if you are recapping the particular show that I am interested in, and I always check your site while I am watching a show to read your interpretations of a particular episode! All of your recapping has been very useful, especially since I sometimes don't understand what I'm watching :).

I really wouldn't change anything about your site. I love how you include links to songs in your posts, and I appreciate how witty and thorough your postings are. If I had to say one thing, I would say that your recapping of "My Name is Kim Samsoon" was a hit for me! I had watched the series several times in the past, but found myself watching it again when you recapped it. Perhaps recapping of old classics would be a good addition...but then again, you guys already do some much.

Thank you for a great site, and Happy 5 years!!!

I think it would be really fun to learn more about and to get your perspectives on the modern Korean celebrations and rites of passage. In particular, I'd like to learn more about national holidays, weddings, birthdays, and the mourning and funeral process.

After watching a few dramas I know some of the basic traditions, but I would love to know more about these events. I've wondered:

What does their special make-up/clothing signify? http://i630.photobucket.com/albums/uu26/dramabeans/drama/2010/gumiho06/gumiho06-00009.jpg

How did this holiday/tradition come about?http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/act/2010/10c/mina_hanbok1.jpg

Has western culture has affected/added this tradition? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/drama/2010/sg/sg1/sg11-00122.jpg

Are there specific gender roles used in celebrating?
http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa324/girlfridaydb/drama/2012/moonsun/moon05/moon05-00003.jpg

What meals are associated with this tradition?http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/drama/2009/minam/mi2/minam9-00036.jpg

How long do these events last? http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm96/javabeans122/drama/2010/byul/wish1/byul7-00139.jpg

What makes drama-watching so fun for me is learning more and more about Korean culture. It's seriously addicting! I'm still watching and learning, and as the saying goes, "Aja, aja! Fighting!"

I think you guys are doing a fantastic job with drama recaps. I've actually noticed the influx of drama recaps lately from yourselves and other contributing writers. It's definitely refreshing to read other perspectives and the different recap format. Something I would love to see more is probably the variety shows roulette. I'm only familiar with the two recapped variety show here and I always loved it when you randomly picked one up. It broadens my knowledge of the kinds of variety shows out there. Also, maybe more movie reviews? I enjoyed those too. But honestly I'm loving all the new batch of recaps so much that it doesn't matter what you guys do for 2012 this website will still be my no. 1 stop for recaps.

What would I like to see on DB in 2012?

I would absolutely love love love it and greatly appreciate it if you guys can expand into recapping other asian dramas, such as TW dramas. Perhaps have a guest-blogger recap or give a review on a TW drama. If you're feeling nice, perhaps even ask for drama recommendations from other countries and give it a chance? I feel like there are so many other good dramas out there that are not Korean and it would be great if someone can give awesome recaps for them :)

Thanks so much! This whole give-away thing was fun, even if I don't win.

Honestly, I really love everything you guys do with the site. I think the only thing I've thought of was maybe doing "retro-recaps" or something--recaps of older dramas that you watched before the site. It would be even cooler if they were like recaps of the classics like "Feelings" ect. You guys have talked about them so it might be fun to revisit them. Plus it would be a way to introduce them to an audience that might not be able to get their hands on it as readily. Just a thought! =)

I really enjoy the news about new movies that are coming out, but once they're out, there's no outlet for us in the U.S. to watch these movies. I'd love to see trailers along with the news articles about the movies, as well as possible recaps for movies that you guys have seen, so I know which ones to get on Yesasia.

Also, perhaps more polls throughout the year to make the drama comments/ranting a little more interactive? Or certain times for group chatting?

I do love this web site and can not thank you enough for the hours of entertainment you have given me and the bad k-drama habit. What I would love is more information on the cultural aspects of the dramas. You do a great job already I am just greedy and want more. I am always trying to guess what is true to life and what is just k-drama conventions. I did figure out for myself that every boy can find parking right outside his girlfriends house is probable a convention.

http://asianmediawiki.com gives release dates for films in the South Korea/Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong/China. I'm not sure how complete it is, but it's a starting point. There are blogs too (http://modernkoreancinema.blogspot.com/ comes to mind) that have stats from the weekly box office in Korea, which allows you to see what's currently screening there movie-wise.

I have Shim Changmin to thank for directing me to this site one year ago. My Kdramaland experience has never been so much fun!

Anyhow, I'd love to see more recaps here in DB, a lot more polls and more, more and MORE of Movie reviews. Maybe we should play Kdrama games once in a while (e.g. Amazing Race, Scavenger Hunt. Lol! :D).

That's all. Happy anniversary again JB and GF to everyone who made DB such a wonderful community!

P.S.: Please do recaps of Dream High 2, Shut Up: Flower Boy Band and Rooftop Prince. :D

This may be a little crazy. I know you blog about kdramas, but what if you opened your site to jdramas and taiwanese dramas, too? You wouldn't have to blog about them, if you delegated it to people who enjoy those dramas and would enjoy writing about them for you.

I know production quality is generally better in Korea, but there are some gems out there that aren't Korean. I recently watched In Time with You (TW). No one online talked about it much, but I really connected with it and wanted to discuss it with others.

However, I completely understand wanting to stay specialized. In that case, I think I would like to hear about opportunities for us to get more involved with kdramas. For instance, I entered a video contest for KBS and won scripts signed by Moon Geun Young and Joo Won. But if I didn't check out the KBS World site before the contest, I wouldn't have known. Maybe even provide information for how fans can interact with their favorite stars.

You're doing great and thanks for all your hard work!

It would fun if every time a drama recap comes to an end there would be a video about the shows highlights, showing its best offered scenes.

And to be more interactive.A readers' critic, would be good, where every reader is entitled to rate a show every time a drama recap comes to a finale.

haha! But anyways Dramabeans already rocks! They just offer excellent drama reviews, Reading blogs has never been this fun!Hooray and congrats for your 5 years of successful blogging! :)

This has been mentioned before, but I would personally love it if you guys did more posts about older dramas like Conspiracy in the Court, The Devil and Resurrection. They don't have to be full recaps, just a review/general impressions would be great. However, given how little sleep you guys are getting already, that may not be wise.
