…and that is just about all I can tell you about that. Not because there’s any big secret involved with MBC’s upcoming May Queen, or any intrigue and mystery, but because that’s pretty much the only info that’s been released by Han’s management to the press today.
So naturally that leaves us with lots of questions, first and foremost being, What is it about? And will she be a literal queen, or a figurative one? And why’s she a May queen if the drama airs in August?
It’ll be Han’s first project in a year, since starring in last year’s sageuk The Duo. Directing is PD Baek Ho-min, who did makjang extravaganza Flames of Ambition and weekend family drama Assorted Gems. Which… doesn’t tell me much about this show, since those were two pretty disparate projects; one was all about twisted families and messed-up relationships, and the other was funny and warm. This could swing either way, or maybe a new direction entirely. We’ll just have to speculate for now.
(Side note: What a terrible way to announce/promote a drama. Who cares about a show before knowing anything about it? Weaksauce all around.)
The drama was initially supposed to have followed Feast of the Gods, but production was delayed thanks to the MBC labor strike. Perhaps that explains the May part of the title, which sounds better than August Queen. (Or does it?)

Well, personally I think Assorted Gems IS about twisted families and messed-up relationship. Though maybe not equally so as Flames of Ambition, which I will never know since I don’t watch FoA and have no plan to.

God i hated her character with a passion in “The Duo”, but i never saw anything from her so i can’t say much about her acting.
Its funny, I’ve only watched her in Sweet 18 and Likeable or not and I love her. She’s one of those easy recognizable actresses to me. I’m glad she’s going to be in a new drama and I hope its really good.
Is ‘likeable or not’ a good drama? I have it on discs but dunno if it’s good or not.
I liked her in Sweet 18 also, but sadly many of her dramas tend to be those very long ones. Didnt she go over and do a chinese drama also I seem to remember a posting up here to that regard? If no one into older Drama, they should know her from either Duo or East Of Eden, though I not seen either myself. Ow right she is always the face of those pop up adds, date an Asian girl..lol I sure she has no idea though.
She is so beautiful. She was the first Korean actress that I really liked back when I just started out watching kdramas (Sweet 18). I think recently she has been living in Chicago but I never got a chance to meet her. sigh.

August Queen would definitely be better if titled in English, because then it has a double meaning.

From what I read, it’s about a success story on a ship or a shipping company, something to that effect. And, they were also saying that there is a possibility for Kim Yoo Jung (Yeon Woo of Moon and Sun) to be cast as well, possibly a younger version or a different character altogether, I’m not sure. Hope it’s good!^^
The first thing that I saw her in was ‘Cloud Stairs’, which I never completely finished viewing, but fell hard for her amazingly pretty face and smile. Then came ‘Likable or Not’, one that had me for the entire run and made me a fan of hers for good. I’m looking forward to seeing her once again and hope that this will be a good one…
