Christmas time calls for a family GIF story.
I recently have pulled my younger cousin into the drama rabbit hole, which of course, is a satisfying albeit selfish accomplishment during a year of low bean count for Kimbap. Cousin is much encouraged by how much easier her Mandarin seems to roll off her tongue after watching A Love So Beautiful this past week

so yesterday she starts to watch the next Netflix recommendation, which naturally is Meteor Garden.

I was so impressed by how she could watch Chen XiaoXi with Not-JiangChen the very next day without experiencing rom com whiplash and was about to promote her from her drama intern status when she asked โ€œOh, are the two actresses the same person?โ€

Cousin, you just watched 20+ hours of the actress Shen Yue in A Love So Beautiful as a high schooler to Shen Yue in Meteor Garden as a college student and not recognize her? Thatโ€™s it! Your drama face blindness makes you an intern once again.

Happy Holidays to Beanies the Drama Pros!

I haven’t watched more than one random ep of this drama, but those who did watch it certainly seem to have fallen victim to this 20 year old boy’s charms. 😅😅 Quite the noona killer.

lol. No amending necessary. Consider it a contribution. lol.

Have you watched any C-Dramas lately G?

No, I’ve only watched Nirvana of Fire sometime in the middle of last year. No other C-drama. Their length is rather daunting. 😅 I couldn’t even complete NIF though I liked it quite a bit.

Their length can be rather daunting, but, they’re actually not that much longer than most K-Dramas. Lets say the average K-Drama is 60 mins long per episode, and 16 episodes per series. That’s 960 mins. The average C-Drama is 45 mins long per episode, and 50 episodes per series. That 2250 mins. Hmmm…wait.

Let’s try the longer K-Dramas that are 80 mins long per episode at 16 per series. That’s 1280…You know what. If they’re really good, they go by super quick. Sometimes they’re way more watchable than K-Dramas. Not Meteor Garden though. That’s something of a hot mess.

Anyways, the pointed I intended to make was that I find many a C-Drama male lead to be really charismatic in a way some K-Drama males leads aren’t. It’s really weird.

Drama math is officially my favorite kind of math, @hades! 😂

😂😂😂😂 that math is beautiful. Also re the male lead, @hades – in what way? Is the C-drama male lead more believable than the K-drama male lead.

@greenfields Not more believable per say. Just different. The dynamics between the two leads is also different imo. @kimbapnoona, how would you describe it?

I have been thinking about your question today @greenfields and I am not sure if I can provide good assessment since I am quick to chuck the difference to relatability even though I grew up in Taiwan which has its own distinct culture.

I do feel that, perhaps similar to @hades, that many of the Chinese leading men are oozing of charisma and swagger not only with the older actors like Wang Kai but even in younger generation like Deng Lun and the newbie Dylan Wang. Perhaps they are their have this distinct manly sexiness about them when Korean actors in their 20’s generally are appealing more in a cute way? I am grossly generalizing but that’s my first reaction.

That last GIF priceless.. may be I should finish MG. I dropped it after all the Caina stuff.

Once you get over the Caina hump,

the drama gets much better -Shancai becomes less frustrating, and Ah-si more adorkable. I would recommend it if you are in the mood for a light rom com (the angst never lasts long) and likes the original story, but do be prepared of a few WTF moments! In the end I don’t think the show takes itself too seriously so a measured watch with appropriate expectation will be a recommended approach.

That’s so funny! But understandable since my sister is the same and cannot remember faces or names of the two dramas she’s watched with me. On the other hand, my mom who has only watched five dramas with me thinks she recognizes everyone even though she is totally wrong😂

My daughter really enjoyed LoveO2O more than any kdrama sheโ€™s seen, so weโ€™re stickibg with CDramas for her too. Next up, ALSB, my favorite Cdrama ever. Itโ€™s so weird sharing these with her because I had nothing to do with them when my mom watched them 30 years ago.

😆 My cousin watched O2O during Thanksgiving and she was absolutely enamored with all its fluffy glory! As a drama novice, it was hard for her to get into the distant tsundery Jiang Chen and fell victim to SLS.

@ally-le, I am in the opposite situation with my mom! My mom rarely watches dramas so now I am the one who is actively trying to get her to watch dramas with me when I go home! 😂
