A/N: Here’s another one-shot fanfic of my recent favourite onscreen couple. The obsession still hasn’t died down yet. This one is also based on my favourite OST from the drama. ENJOY GUYS ^ ^

You Belong To Me
Pairing: Mad Dog’s Kim Min Joon x Jang Ha Ri
What I Want – NiiHWA (니화)

“Did you guys get all that?” Jang Ha Ri whispered loud enough for the mic to hear. The team was on yet another mission to crack down an insurance fraud case and Ha Ri was sent to get information from one of the targets.

“Of course,” Cheetah’s voice echoed through the earpiece, “Pentium’s working on uploading the file right now.”

“It should be ready preeetty soon.” The team’s young IT genius replied with confidence, “Wah~ Jang Sunbae, that guy literally spilled every single detail to you in less than 3 minutes. That’s nearly as fast as my internet download speed.”

“Noori~ah, who could have resisted Jang Seong Su’s charm tonight? I don’t think even Kim Bak Sa could say no.”

“Where is Kim Bak Sa anyway?” At the mention of Kim Min Joon, her reflection in the mirror portrayed concern and worry. Ha Ri had to pause for a moment to compose herself before stepping out of the bathroom.

“Guys, let’s focus please. I’ll give this guy a nice warm farewell and then I’ll head straight back to the office. In the meantime…try and locate Kim Min Joon. Over and out.” With that she removed the hidden earpiece and let out a sigh.

“I swear if I get my hands on that crazy idiot…” She mumbled as she made her way back to the target.

Out of the blue, a pair of hands reached out and grabbed her from behind, pulling her over to a quietly light corner. Ha Ri was just about to punch the lights out of the mysterious stranger when she realised it was none other than Kim Min Joon himself.

“Crazy idiot? Are you talking about me?” He asked teasingly with that usual know-it-all tone in his voice.

“Ya! Kim Min Joon!” Ha Ri exasperated, slightly annoyed but mostly relieved to see him.

“Ssh…” He motioned carefully to the bar, reminding her not to cause a scene and blow their cover.

“You scared the hell out of me.” She exclaimed, lowering her tone. “What are you doing here?”

“Keeping an eye on you, of course.” Min Joon simply replied. His eyes fixed intently on hers which made her feel nervous like that time at the restaurant.

“Oh, so you don’t trust me now?”

“It’s not Jang Ha Ri~ssi that I don’t trust. It’s those beasts out there that I’m concerned about.”

“It takes one to know one.” She countered, trying to avert from his gaze. “Well anyway, I better I get back before it gets suspicious.”

“He’s already gone.”

“What?”

“The target.” Min Joon answered, suddenly looking a bit sheepish. “I…may have accidentally bumped into him in the bathroom…and had a few words.”

Ha Ri could only stare at him in disbelief. “Hey, it’s not my fault he was looking at you in all the wrong places. Why did you have to dress like that anyway?”

“How else was I suppose to seduce the man and get information out of him?”

“Seduce? Does the man know that you have a hygiene problem?”

“Kim Min Joon! Now is not the time to make fun of me. Seriously, why do you always do this?”

“You still don’t get it, huh?”

“What? Get what? What is it that you want?”

“Nothing. Nevermind.”

Bitter silence filled the air, as they both struggled to find the right words to say. Ha Ri desperately tried to search for an answer in his expression, but it was no use. He was unreadable.

Jang Ha Ri, you’re a fool for thinking that you could understand him. Disappointed, she turned to leave, holding back her emotions.

“Aish! YOU!” Min Joon slammed his hand against the wall in frustration, blocking her from escaping. “I want…you.”

“Kim…” Ha Ri was completely taken aback by his statement but before she could even process the situation fully, Min Joon had already planted his lips gently against hers, leaving her even more bewilder.

Breaking the kiss, he peered down at her with a shy smile and asked, “Do you…understand now?” His voice sounded anxious.

“I…”

“I told you that I was only going to look at you, didn’t I?”

“You…did?” She mumbled, still a little dazed.

“Pabo.” Min Joon chuckled to himself.

He tapped Ha Ri affectionately on the nose before moving in for another kiss. It felt so right that she couldn’t help but lean in closer, wrapping her arms automatically around his neck. This time she kissed him back with fervor.

Another one for you guys @sicarius and @PakalanaPikake

As well as my fellow beanies who like and put up with my continuous Mad Dog posts. @crazyyo, @Giegie, @sriracha, @rinny, @ravennightstar, @kaybee, @korfan, @wakimary thank you. Sorry if I’ve missed anyone.

Yay! This is great, letseatcookies! You really captured the tone of their ripostes. And those allusions to real scenes and dialogue in the show made it feel authentic. Brava!

I’ve been appreciating MAD DOG’s finale even more since BLACK’s plot in the last episode let me down even more than the ending of BTLIOF (for the main couple; the others were fine). I’ve been feeling kind of grumpy as a result, so really appreciate your fanfic of Ha-ri and Min-joon. Manseh and Mahalo! 😉

I saw in earlier comments that you weren’t thrilled to use “with fervor.” Other possibilities to describe how Ha-ri kissed him back: “enthusiastically,” or better yet, “with ardor.”

Or it could be a little tongue in cheek to say she “kissed him back, with interest” in the sense of paying someone back “with interest” (when wreaking vengeance, returning more than was initially dealt), and being interested, too. Unlike flirting with the target of an investigation. 😉

Thanks. Your compliment is always much appreciated. ^ ^

I haven’t seen BLACK but I also found the last few episodes of BTLIOF not that satisfying. I mean…I admit that due to lack of internet and my eagerness/priority to watch Min Joon and Ha Ri kind of put that drama on hold for a bit. Also I chose to stop right after the climatic kiss scene which was a stupid mistake because they had to ruin that moment with the couple breaking up for a bit. Basically when I went back to the final episodes, it just didn’t feel as fuzzy and heartwarming anymore. I blame MAD DOG for that.

I like “with ardor” hahaha might have to use that next time. Seriously, you and @sicarius have to write some more fanfics. I refuse to call that 3 sentences of yours a fanfic LOL. I mean…it’s a drabble and I liked it but still. HAHAHA!!

          @letseatcookies,

I refuse to call that 3 sentences of yours a fanfic LOL. I mean…it’s a drabble and I liked it but still. HAHAHA!!

In best Jan Gebauer voice: Bitte sehr! [You’re welcome!] Glad to know that “ardor” may be useful.

Thank you for adding a new word to my vocabulary: “drabble.” (What a homely-sounding word. LOL!) I had no idea such a thing exists.

I was going more for a scene with tone/feeling evocative of the original, but with a twist. And economy of verbiage, as in a haiku. Think of it as a distillation that condensed the essence of the relationship’s progression. I didn’t grow up reading O. Henry and Guy de Maupassant (and Lord Dunsany’s exquisite short fantasy stories) for nothin’. Hehehe.

What the heck. I used to translate machinery operating manuals. I’m no good with the mushy stuff. 😉

BLACK was great up until the final episode, and even then, it was the very ending that bombed out. In addition to the excellent supporting cast, the best part of the drama for me was Song Seung-heon’s terrific performance. He was truly fantastic. If there really are reapers, I hope the Almighty dispatches one as hunktastic as SSH to fetch me when the time comes. 😉

hahahaha I only learnt the word “drabble” from writing fanfic. To be honest, I don’t think I truly know what it means. Something short and sweet?

Well you truly set the scene and got straight to the point. I guess what I’m trying to say is, it was so good that I wanted more so it was kind of a tease.

Hahaha…I think I want Lee Dong Wook as my reaper…he was so mushy and fragile. LOL

Dagnabbit, now I’m wondering about the derivation of “drabble.” It sounds so Germanic — which isn’t surprising, given its Middle English pedigree.

I looked up the definition of drabble: a short piece of writing with a maximum of 100 words, although I think I saw it also stated as 1,000 words.

According to Merriam-Webster, drabble only occurs in verb forms. (transitive); to make wet or dirty by draggling (dragging) through mud or water, such as the hem of one’s pants or a long dress. The only form of draggle I’ve ever seen used is “bedraggled.” (Think of a wet hen.)

(intransitive) 1. – to become wet or dirty by moving through wet, muddy places; 2. – to fish with a rod and long line drawn through the water. (This sounds akin to trolling, but not on a moving boat.)

So what does dragging through dirty water have to do with a short literary work — or the price of cotton underwear in Berlin? No clue. 😉

Totally unrelated to MAD DOG, but a bit of writing that popped out after my initial flirtation with fanfic. (See what you and Sicarius started?!) I dredged up a few memories to encourage a younger friend.

WOW. Thanks for the enlightening post. Language is such an interesting thing. Although I think if I ever read the word “drabble” now, I will only think of the cost of underwear hahahahhaaha….

I went to check out the post and you wrote soooooo much. OMG. And then I realised…wait @PakalanaPikake can write?? LOL. Do a long post like that for MAD DOG please. Hahaha…it doesn’t even have to be mushy, just the usual Min Joon x Ha Ri style.

The etymology of “drabble” is pretty interesting, eh? That’s why I like looking up the derivation of words new to me. One of my odd talents is acquiring and remembering vocabulary.

I recall once reading advice addressed to budding writers to write about what you know. So I guess that’s why that post that surprised you was autobiographical. A slice of life that really happened, dressed as a parable to remind others that life can unfold in strange and mysterious ways when we least expect it. All we have to do is recognize it as it happens, and have the presence of mind to answer the doorbell. 😉

I’ve been an avid chewer of the fat here at DB since about February, 2016. My first live-watch was OH HAE-YOUNG AGAIN, and I posted a lot (see comments on psychology, metaphysics, and the song “Grandfather’s Clock”), and haven’t looked back. [Before that, I participated in the discussions on THE KING’S DAUGHTER, SU BAEK HYANG on Soompi, and met many wonderful folks there.] Among numerous other currently-airing shows in the past two years, I participated profusely in the recap threads of BEAUTIFUL MIND, LOOKOUT, THE KING LOVES, and TEMPERATURE OF LOVE. BECAUSE THIS LIFE IS OUR FIRST prompted many comments (esp. eps. 15-16 owing to the psychological aspects, and the ending for which I’m still thinking of writing an alternative). VOICE led to a discussion of Goethe’s poem “Erlkoenig” as it foreshadows Mo Tae-goo’s back story. (See link on my fan wall). REBEL elicited scads of verbiage on Confucianism, Mugyo, traditional music & dance, and a discussion of the blue-green color of the Amnok / Yalu River. Plus literary analysis of the novel Hong Gil-dong and several other works with Liina and other great Beanies. You’ll be sorry if you look, because I’ve written oodles when the spirit has moved me. 😉

As for writing, I never thought I had anything to say. Instead, I expressed myself through music as an FM disc jockey weaving together segues on a college station. (For this reason my fan wall is loaded with vintage music as well as Kdrama OSTs.) But that’s the wonderful thing about watching Kdramas and discussing them here at DramaBeans. It’s been a blast to avidly examine characters and plots, and general philosophies of life with so many lovely kindred spirits. I don’t know squat about film making and dramaturgy, but I’ve lived long enough to be able to recognize the all-too-human qualities of many Kdrama characters. I appreciate the food for thought, and the good company with whom to discuss it. 😉

Thanks for encouraging me to write creatively. I’m considering another installment of MAD DOG fanfic, but have to see what arises from my imagination. To steal a book title from the late Gestalt therapist, Barry Stevens, Don’t Push the River (It Flows by Itself). Vielen Dank (with a Jan Gebauer wink)! 😉

I wish I had your talent in remember vocabulary. I love languages but struggle so much to grasp and perfect many. I have tried but so far, only Korean has got me somewhere…or at least it is slowly going somewhere…I think.

I have visited your profile and noticed the many posts about music. It is amazing to have such enthusiasm for something and it’s great how thanks to the internet, many of us beanies from around the world can share each other’s interest and form bonds based on our love for kdramas.

Hahaha you’re river reference made me think of the song from Pocahontas…JUST AROUND THE RIVER BEND hehe…

For vocabulary building, you might want to check out the website of the Johnson O’Connor Foundation. Mr. O’Connor was an engineer who was commissioned to devise testing methods to determine aptitude for fine hand work (assembling electrical components) by General Electric in the 1920s. He came up with a finger-dexterity test, and then one for tweezer-dexterity. He assumed that if a person had dextrous fingers, they’d be good with tweezers, too — and was amazed to find out there was no correlation. That set him off on a quest to research and document human aptitudes and potential, which he pursued until he died 50 years later.

Aptitudes are defined as inherent abilities. You cannot study for them. But one thing that you can study for and consciously influence is you vocabulary. Mr. O’Connor discovered a connection between a good vocabulary and good communication ability. All other things being equal, a person who is better able to communicate will be more successful in their work. Thus, he encouraged everyone to become better communicators by expanding their vocabulary. JORF has some articles and resources for vocabulary building. — I hope this helps!

Yeah, music has been an important part of my life for a long time, even though I’m not much of a musician myself. But I sure appreciate people who are.

In my radio days, I was introduced to the blues. I can’t begin to express how good the “blue notes” in that music make me feel. Sometimes I think that, because I’m Irish, there might be “green notes.” LOL.

The other notes I love are “shape notes” and the music in 4 parts that is written with them. This is truly American music, and dates back to itinerant New England singing masters. It’s also called “Sacred Harp” singing after the 1844 tune book that is still being published today. — I’ve posted some links to Sacred Harp on my fan wall. It is wonderfully uplifting music sung communally by ordinary folks for their own enjoyment. You haven’t experienced a “wall of sound” until you’ve been to a Sacred Harp singing. 😉

No problem. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I still have more ideas so I will try help fill the void. Just wait for me.

Hehe…I imagined Do Hwan doing it and we all know whatever that guy does is sexy.

Don’t worry about pressuring me. I have tons of ideas to write about. As long as someone is willing to wait for my fanfics, I will try my best to write something.

Gosh you’re really cultivating my guilty pleasure aren’t you? Tsk tsk.

(can I critique a line, or is that mean… idk…)

    5
    2

(OKAY it’s not even a critique really, it’s not you, lots of people use it- it’s just I hate the word “fervor” hahahaha)

      4
      1

Hahahha….omg I was struggling with what word to use. Since passionately just sounded so cheesy. But it wasn’t eagerness either. I just used it because it was in the synonyms option on my Word hahahha

        4
        2

Hahaha I mean, I think it might just be any word in that situation that bugs me. Cos none of them really work?
Fervor, passionately, even “deepens the kiss” is over used and kinda weird.
Just another reason why intimate scenes are hard to write well without being weird or cringeworthy or cheesy! Don’t worry I have all the same problems! haha

Like in this sense, I think “This time, she kissed him back” is actually enough.
The reader’s imagination can do the rest hahaha

          2
          1

Hahaha yeah sometimes less is more. But then you kind of want to set the scene for readers. It’s tough writing fanfics lol.

It’s tough writing in general … haha

Nope. I don’t mind. Constructive criticism is always good. I’m not sure I’m 100% happy with this but I needed to put it out.

      1

Awww haha! This is great! Thanks for writing this up and sharing!! 😍😍
And Min joon sounds exactly like how Woo Do Hwan acted him in Mad Dog! Full of cheeky spirit!! 👏👏😏 Love it!

P.S. I LOVE THIS OST!! I’ve listened to it like a thousand times already!! 😘😘

    5
    1

I hope it sounds like them because it gets so confusing writing different characteristics after a while.

PS Right? It’s so good. My next fanfic shall be based on the last OST. This drama didn’t seem to have as many soundtracks…or is it normal?

      3
      1

Yeah I get you. It is challenging! I haven’t written in ages so if I do write, it wouldn’t sound as good as yours haha. You’ve done a great job! 😁

That sounds great! Looking forward to it! I have no idea about that. But from what I’ve noticed, it may depend on the genre. I think crime, thriller and mystery dramas have less number of OST than romance for example. But that’s just my guess so..

That’s my problem too. I feel so rusty from not writing in so long. This couple really took the inner fangirl out of me. You should give it a go though too. Use the OST as the theme and write something for us please….with a fried egg on top. Lol.

Ahh that makes sense though. I wish I could love the final track as much as the other two but it literally got released in the final week.

Agreed. This couple was everything. Made Mad Dog that much better with their chemistry and bickering relationship!

OMG GUYS!! @sicarius and @pakalanapikake, I just suddenly thought of a better way to end that last paragraph.

He tapped Ha Ri affectionately on the nose before moving in for another kiss. It felt so right that she couldn’t help but lean in closer, wrapping her arms automatically around his neck. This time she didn’t hold back. This time she kissed him back.

I think that would have worked better. Damn writer’s block at the time.

      @letseatcookies,

      Manseh!!! Now you’re cooking! Terrific!

Picky stylistic observation: back-to-back uses of back (with two different meanings).

      A possible alternative:
This time she went for broke and kissed him back. He never knew what hit him.

I’ve been beavering away on a couple of MAD DOG pieces that are gradually coming together. No three-liners. No drabbles. When I get stuck on one, I switch off onto the others. They woke me up at 3:30 this morning to get back to work on them. I know the general directions I want them to go. It’s just a matter of getting there. Stay tuned. But continue to breathe (i.e., Don’t hold your breath.) 😉
