Boys Before Flowers actress commits suicide

Oh, this is sad.

Jang Ja-yeon, one of the Boys Before Flowers‘ Jin-Sun-Mi trio of Mean Girls, was found dead in her home on March 7. Her death has been deemed suicide.

The police are still are still looking into the matter, but police have stated that after a first examination of the deceased’s body, there do not appear to be signs of foul play or struggle. Jang’s family does not want an autopsy, so out of respect for their wishes, none will be performed.

Jang had hanged herself at her apartment; her older sister found the body on the evening of the 7th. She explains that Jang Ja-yeon had suffered from depression, and prior to her suicide had been staying inside her room for long periods of time more frequently, signaling perhaps that she was falling into deeper depression. About 10 years ago, Jang lost both parents in a car accident when she was in high school, and has lived with her sister ever since.

But to staff from Boys Before Flowers, the 27-year-old actress who played the dimwitted “Sunny” character was “always bright and positive, with a lot of passion for acting. I cannot believe that she would commit suicide.”

Another source from the drama, however, said, “She was lively and passionate, but as a rookie actress, I think she felt a lot of anxiety about her future.”

Jang Ja-yeon debuted in the entertainment industry with a CF in 2006, and acted in the drama My Lovely Fool and a Drama City production called Love Hunt, Thirty minus three (with Sohn Tae-young and Park Ki-woong).

Jang Ja-yeon is not a famous actress, but it’s particularly shocking (and worrisome) given the drama’s far reach into the youth population. As we saw with the untimely deaths of Choi Jin-shil and Ahn Jae-hwan last year, a spate of suicides followed, and while I don’t want to diminish each passing by calling them copycat acts, it’s unfortunately true that they got tremendous press coverage and seemed for a while to spawn a “trend.” Best wishes to Jang’s family.

Suicide is real common here actually. Like in the drama Boys Before Flowers, Jan Di was really picked on. In America people think that its just over-reacting but there actually is severe bullying here in Korea. this might not be the case for poor Jang, but suicide is pretty common in Korea, sadly.

first... let's not categorize and say that this is only limited to Koreans. That's just racial. Each situation that has occurred is it's own individual situation and shouldn't be tied to one thing or rather, to a 'drama' as a whole. that's just immature. As fans, lets try to be more respectful of the deceased and not speculate on things we are completely ignorant on. And lets not blame the show as being bad luck. It's only a show albeit, a truly one of a kind, great one and deserves the credit for being such a show that hooks us all in like this. You put down the show/actors efforts and hard work by the racism (koreans and suicide) and speculation (placing a curse on the show???) whereas all they need is your respectful silence and prayers.

@109 cool let's take it to another 2 levels....
I wonder with you too on the american/western views Vs Korean views on "over-reactions vs bullying.

Could Korea also BEEF-UP issues in their counselling curriculum???? Some quiet souls may just be saved.

I suggest that maybe if kindness and time permits that each Agent be trained in these types of issues and counselor-type relationships.

It's worth detecting and saving a soul-literally.

There is no such this as "curses" or watever u wanna call it...
But one things for sure is that there r real life drama's && situations that r uncontrolable && esspecially being that she is an actress... no doubt about the stress and pressure that (not only her) goes through in daily life...

As a fan of Boys B4 Flowers, and a supporter of Korean drama's && their actors; I pray for their saftey and peace. Rest In Peace Jang Ja-Yeon. --___--

this is indeed so tragic.
while i do not believe that suicide is racial thing...but this is something i have learnt about the korean culture through watching dramas : if you are an orphan (or even if you have lost one parent)...your social standing isn't ranked very high up especially so during a marriage prospect. correct me if i am wrong..and this is even more pronounced if you are a female.

whatever the reasons behind their action to take their own life...the fundamental one is the loss of HOPE.

i pray that world is a better place for all and let's not loose hope. God bless!

why are there so many koreans commiting suicide??? (no offense)
when some people struggle for them to live, a good example are patients in the hospitals, some are 50/50 but still they struggle to survive and yet others will only waste their lives. why dont they just exchange their life for those people who gives importance for them to live. it such a waste!!!
those people who commit suicide only think of themselves, havent they think of the family that they will left behind?!
(no offense! these is in general)

What a tragedy... a sad, sad tragedy...

I hope the Korean press respects her family's grief for their loss and doesn't blow this right up into a huge hullabaloo. With the massive following of BBF, no good can possibly come of that.

It's so depressing. It's getting harder and harder to not believe that there is a dark curse hanging over this show.

Rest in peace, Jang Ja-yeon.

this is really sad. everyone of us were not expecting she'll turn out to be like this --i mean get suicide. it's also sad for the BOF production because despite the fact of its popularity id thought everyone will be inspired for the same reason and work hard . this is too bad. i hope she has friends where she can vent her problems. I hope she believes in God.

My friend who introduced me to Boys Over Flowers showed me this article in the Guardian newspaper yesterday. I found it SO sad. It’s tragic and wrong that such a young and promising actress should have felt like this, and I’m really sorry to hear it. I am a bit behind in the BOF series so if I see her in it again I’ll feel deep sadness. She was a very comical and convincing Sunny and I enjoyed her performance. Rest in Peace Jang

again this is just my theory..
anyway, her parents die because of car accident.

It's a pity to see a girl die so young and beautiful. Though she may have not been a popular actress but surely her career was only beginning. Rest in peace. I hope her case will help change the actions and opinions of many so that in the future this would not occur to another victim. Its sad to know that even in today's modern society and such a well-respected and strong moral place like Korea there are still many issues that occur behind the scenes in which the media never reports. I hope her family will be able to go through with their loss.

wtf???????// Jang Ja Yeon is dead??/ Tat is sooooooooo sad and i reli hope tat her family can live through this terrible terrible tragedy!!!!!!!! Even though she wasn't reli popular- should her position in popularity even matter morally? She's a human being for cryin out loud, i mean yeh sure she was in a few dramas, including BBF but ppl cum on!!!!!!!!! This is a woman who has taken her own life!!!!!!!!!! This is not a drama episode, this is real life and yes, life is hard and there are suicides goin on in almost every country in the world. So, we must treat this issue with respect and not demoralise it by showing our stupid and quite immature angst and puzzlement at whose gonna play the character 'Sunny' if theres a BBF 2, cause frankly tat says jus hw low our compassion has become - as if we're freakin robots or sumthin, gosh!!!!!!!!
Ppl, wake up and smell the damn coffee, when ppl die you pay your respects and give it the silence it deserves, don't fill the deserved silence with rattling fields of gossip, rumours and ur basic shit-stirrin plz. Its because of our inhumane stoicism which i believe has lead to many around the world who has committed suicide from achieving the ultimate level of happiness which almost everyone aims for but few truly attain. Also they refrain from being able to have the confidence to ask for help as because we implement this 'inhumane stoicism' in our attitudes and very essence of life, this causes those who are not strong enough to handle this form of attitude to either become a very introverted person and stay in their house the majority of the time or commit suicide- of which many seem to do the latter when they snap after years of being introverted about their situation which we call life.
Sadly life is hard, and we do have to live in this world unless we either die of natural causes, get murdered or commit suicide or the other option, but this is what we have to expect and even though i as a human being do despise this so-called 'inhumane stoicism' of which i have observed countless times in many different environments in my lifetime and have also rebelled against such an attitude. I am also aware that i can't change the whole world, thus it is much more better to learn how to fight your own battles WITHOUT the help of others, interestingly enough i not only learnt this lesson through tough life experiences of being left to fend for myself in tense situations but also i have learnt this from very wise dramas. However, those dramas focused on this lesson of life because it is something that could be useful for everyone in whatever stage of their life tat they are in, im jus sad tat Jang Ja Yeon didn't learn tat lesson and fight against this horrendous manager tat she had and also against this horrendous media industry which could make or break a person from a mere rumour. What ppl don't realise is that ugliness and evil can exist beneath beaming smiles and twinkling eyes of kindness, surely Roald Dahl taught us tat with The Landlady story? Oh, you guys haven't read tat story have you>? Well, im recommendin it nw, jus shows tat u should always be alert and fight for yourself but never give up life, no matter how hard it gets- you neva knw whether this is the only life tat u get. & remember, the fact tat u are livin a life should be sumthing lucky in itself, we humans are never satisfied but to be honest, we are just mere atoms and atmosphere, why worry about how you look when you can explode in less than a second and become absolutely nothing? Jus live life to the full and don't you dare go die on me lol. Luv ya, peace out and of course, R.I.P Jang Ja Yeon (1 MIN SILENCE)- i hope they have sum roller-coasters in heaven (if there is one), tat would be kwl

Who ever is the writer to this report is so cruel?

Why would he/she write such this?

Be careful with your words... You cannot say "Best wishes" to the family hwom their loved one had died in any circumstances.

"CONDOLENCE" is the proper word!
