That's the problem. We NEVER learn. To think that we practically breath Kdrama Oxygen, but we still act like it's our FIRST Kdrama.
We know she's going to get hurt and we know that she's going bounce up, alive & more fabulous. Yet we still cry.

We know that she's going to die from watching only episode 8. Yet we still grieve when she dies.
We know he's going to gain back his lost memories. Yet it still frustrates us when he can't remember.
I like how the Hong Sisters improved on their usually abandoned 2D 2nd Male Lead. And YKS makes Pil Joo even more perfect. It hurts me to see him face rejection (which we know WILL happen) but we can see that the Sisters are trying to make him end up with Se Ri.
How awesome would it be if Se Ri is the one who chases after him?

Oh heck yeah!! More smooches to fire up the screen! I love that these two do not do stupid lip touches. Love it that it's their agreement to make out. How freakin' awesome are these two!!!!
To his defence, what red blooded woman WOULD'NT want him perving out on her? *drifts off to fantasy scenario... that will not be mentioned for fear of incurring JB's wrath*
It's nice to see that for Cha Seung Won in both athena and Best Love, they didn't try to cover up his tattoo. Granted, it fits in with the character he's playing, but is it the norm for other korean actors/actresses? I guess most of them korean actors are pretty covered up, minus some shower scenes. For alyssa milano in the earlier seasons of charmed, they covered up all her tattoos, until the later seasons they were shown b/c the show was on a lower budget.
Trying to get my EPIK application in for teaching English in Korea, and I just need one more letter of refference!!! I'm going crazy here waiting for my supervisor to get it done, whilst all the jobs are slowly slipping away...
What sucks about this is that FINALLY, for once in my life, I didn't procrastinate on something, but, lo and behold! someone ELSE did. AAARG so stressed.
Just had to vent somewhere. I figured you guys could understand the excitement of wanting to go to Korea.
:-)
Are you hiring an assistant? I'm available, as long as you allow me to stalk actors once a week, limit my work hours so i can catch up on my dramas & give me back-hugs whenever I'm down.
How cool! Good luck getting the ref you need. I know how it feels to wait for that one last document you need, especially when getting it is totally out of your hands.
She reminds me of a young Judy Garland, same vocal tone although Judy sang with a bit more vibrato when she held her notes, which was popular during her time. Caro holds her notes pure for the most part.
I'm really glad to have kdramas for my rom-com fix. I borrowed a few american rom-com dvds to watch since I need to get away from my computer and lie down and rest my back... Watched Leap Year and My Life in Ruins.
On the one hand, they were good, because the heroines are pretty unlikable, repressed, and impractical and that made me feel smarter.
On the other hand, it was just really hard to watch the heroines, who have amazing professional backgrounds, act completely inflexible, naive, egotistical, and too stupid to live and then have some guy swoop in to teach her how to live and they live happily ever after on his territory and his supposedly more superior philosophy.
So avoid Leap Year and My Life in Ruins! (and The Ugly Truth - I want to go back in time and burn your script!)
[my mom is watching brilliant legacy for like the 3rd time this year, after another rewatch of BOFs. I'm so sick of Almost Paradise and that chat that Han Hyo Joo's character does. It must be great to be my mom, who can hear a joke for the 40th time and still find it just as fresh and funny as when she heard it the first time. I'm so easily jaded. ]
I think another problem with the heroines nowadays is they are either perfect in hair, clothes an make-up, or they are perfectly slobs.
I guess part of the problem is everything is HD, so everything shows, but I have gotten used to seeing scars and blemishes on my heroes and heroines. It doesn't make them any less believable in their roles.
The Ghost and Mrs. Muir
1947 Starring Gene Tierney, Rex Harrison and George Sanders (A very good Rom-com for it's time)
Lili
1953 Starring Leslie Caron, Mel Ferrer and Jean-Pierre Aumont (I developed fangirl love for Mel Ferrer in this one)
Sabrina
1954 Starring Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn and William Holden
or
1995 Starring Harrison Ford, Julia Ormond and Greg Kinnear (Both are good!)
Blithe Spirit
1945 Starring Rex Harrison, Constance Cummings and Kay Hammond
You Can't Take It with You
1938 Starring Jean Arthur, James Stewart and Lionel Barrymore
There is one more that I can't remember the title of, but it was a rom-com, hilarious. So I am continuing to search, if but for my own peace of mind.
One of the names on there made me chuckle. Sorry for being juvenile, but don't you think the name Constance Cummings was a bit daring and risqué for the 40s? Who was the genius studio head who came up with that?
"Daughter of Dallas Vernon, a lawyer, and Kate Logan (Cummings) Halverstadt, a concert soprano.
In 1974, the American-born Cummings, who resided in the UK for many decades, was made a Commander of the British Empire for her contributions to the British entertainment industry." Courtesy of IMDB.
Have a wonderful Memorial's wkend to any whom apply. It's all about spare ribs this holiday for my family, and skyping family members whom can't make it to this reunion.
Oh gawd, oh gawd... I'm balling with chuckles. I just finished watching Family Outing S1Ep44-45 with Cha Seung-won as guest. The funniest episodes I've seen so far. Oh gawd, my abs had a great workout. My throat is now clear of phlegm getting over a cold bursting in laughter.
Ok, I need another dose of Comic relief. My vitamin-C.
How is it? Is it good? I'm thinking of picking it up.
I'm currently watching Creating Destiny. It's pretty good so far, I like it. But I was mostly spurred by the announcement of Eugene and Ki Tae Young's engagement and upcoming marriage.
I'm there though I skipped the episode after the hair-raising. Really like to see Sa-ran smiling. Son-ja and the sister are great. Enjoying seeing some characters getting their just desserts. Hoping everything works out for Ra-ra. Still hanging out to see Sa-ran get reunited with her real family.
A few days ago, as a joke, I created a Tumblr blog called K-Drama Wrist-grabs (kdramawristgrabs.tumblr.com) which consists mostly of screenshots. Initially, I did it to show the innumerable wrist grabs our heroines had to endure in Best Love and 49 Days. I ended up doing other dramas as well, at least the ones I've seen recently. I knew from the start I couldn't possibly keep this up. But now I'm hooked. That's my problem. I can't stop... to the detriment of my work and social life. 너 때문에 못 살아, Dokko Jin and Kang-ah!
I just feel bad for the ever-increasing legion of wrist-grabbing fans following my Tumblr once I decide I can't do it anymore. Sorry in advance, followers, all seven of you.
Do you know what an epiphany of relationship status I got Shin Young and Min Jae actually hold hands in ep 10-11 of TWWSWTM?????!
I don't know when it happened, but I have become eagle-eye girl for wrist grabs. It makes me crazy when they're totally unnecessary. So while I am totally fascinated by a whole tumblr of wrist-grabs, I think I should avoid it for the sake of my blood pressure. LOL.
It's refreshing and funny at the same time (and frustrating), that hand-holding is the culmination of a long courtship, as in a lot of dramas. I remember watching TWWSWTM, but I wasn't too keen on the skinships at the time for some reason. I don't remember if they actually kissed :D
Do visit my Tumblr. It might give you a chuckle or two. And your blood pressure will be fine, I promise.

Another great week in KDrama Land. Thanks again to the DB Dream Team for your updates/recaps.
As usual I watched All that Glitters/Sparkling/Twinkle Twinkle, New Tales of a Gisaeng, Lie To Me, Romance Town, Baby Faced Beauty and Best Love.
Though I enjoyed watching episodes of Best Love, Baby Faced Beauty and Romance Town I really appreciated my long-running dramas-All that Glitters/Sparkling/Twinkle Twinkle and New Tales of a Gisaeng-this week.
Even though I enjoyed Best Love it didn't have me falling off my couch laughing this week-loved the potato in prison but:) Either we're in the drama zone with this drama or I was too tired from a very busy day.
Anybody watching All that Glitters/Sparkling/Twinkle Twinkle out there?
I'm really enjoying this show because most of the characters have such personality flaws its amusing. Sharing is not a concept in any of the families.
Another reason I like the show is the Kang-ah like editor-in-chief. He's my actor I'm most in lust with now.
By the way, I tried to watch Secret Garden again but didn't get past Episode 3/4 before I resorted to the Special and called it a day. However, I could watch Dr. Champ no problem. I wonder if it was because I had overdosed on Secret Garden before watching the unsubbed episodes reading the recaps and then watching the subbed versions. Come to think of it I can't watch Sungkyunkwan Scandal either-maybe for the same reason. Has anyone been in the same situation?
I take back it what I said about Best Love not having me fall off my couch from laughing. I was really tired yesterday and went to bed before watching the bidding war in Episode 7. I now watched it and it was hilarious!
Editor is absolutely my weakness. Although he is not graceful with the ladies, he is kind and he is trying to understand and please JW with all his might .
I love how they have this sageuk type character saying all the onomatopoeia words or double double words.
I want to cut together a video of his and JW's conversations and arguments. JW is a great heroine who has to overcome a lot of bad luck
His mom is a complete psycho gangster, btw, and I hope GR ends up stewing in her own sausage soup.
I'm saddened that I missed the fun today. We had a bit of an emergency this morning/afternoon with the toddler boy falling and cutting his head. Blood EVERYWHERE!!!
Needless to say, the boy is fine, after an ER visit from the frantic, then made paranoid by the Urgent Care refusal to treat, Mom.
Now, down to the kdramas (Forgive me if I'm not too witty today, I'm trying to lighten up.):
Can You Hear My Heart
What will Woo-ri do? It doesn't look like she is interested in Joon-ha. And Dong-joo, will he just turn away, or will he confront Joon-ha?
I really, really feel sad for Joon-ha. His regret over cutting off his family is heart-wrenching. I can relate to having regret over a major decision I made in the past. (Buying a house without thinking of future needs/changes.)
However, I have a feeling that he is really going to be thrust into the heart of the battle very soon. He seems to be avoiding conflict as much as possible, but he may be called to take a definitive side. Can he do it?
And finally, can he really love? He seemed a bit self-centered as a boy and it has transferred to manhood. He is so busy trying to keep what he has, he keeps betraying everyone around him (to varying extents.)
p.s. What is up with this cosmetics trainer lady (with the big sunglasses)? She is just downright eccentric.
Having had acne for much of my life, I found this out the hard way :s I think it's b/c the skin is so close to the bone on your head that everything is really close to the surface, if that makes any sense. I'm sure it was a very anxious time for you, though kids never seem to notice in the long-run, especially boys. Something like this happened to a friend of mine with one of her little boys, and while she was off in a corner trying to get her heart rate to slow down he had gone back out with his brothers to test his mortality again.
My then 3yo son spurted blood from his forehead when he fell on a step to our sunken lounge. He was more scared of our reaction than his blood...3 stitches. Real drama for parents.
Can you hear my heart.
I feel sad for Jun-ah too. Heartbreaking. Maybe when his mission is done...he will tell the truth...that is if he doesn't get found out first.
I feel sad for Dong Joo too.
I think Woo Ri likes Dong Joo romantically, Jun-ah as brotherly oppa...until the J/W closeness that Dong Joo witness. "Maroo oppa"
I replay some scenes I enjoy...same with the other dramas I'm watching that I really really like.
Sunglasses lady must Woo ri's mom twin sister. She might be Woori's real mom...gave her away to her deaf/mute twin sis 25 yrs ago!
Hi MJP!
When sunglasses lady, whose name sounds like Woo ri's mom, takes off her shades, those who knew Woori's mom might notice that she's the exact image (looks without the makeup) of her (woori's mom). Tears fell after after Woori responded that she's 25yo...so I'm guessing that something is significant about that. Besides, there must be a reason why the same actress as Woori's mom is back in the drama for another role. Fingers crossed that she maybe Wooris's real mom!
I am still waiting for the subs on Ep 18. I watched it RAW of course, but want to know what they are saying.
VIKI only has 1% left to translate. I sure can't wait!!! ck1Oz is on the job so I know that everyone is doing there very best to get it translated. She is AWESOME!!!
Lie to Me has been a kiddy roller coaster ride. You know you want to just act cool and sit it through, coz it's not going that fast anyway, but when it unexpectedly takes a dip, you can't help but squeal a little bit inside. Now that I have to wait through the weekend after that cliffhanger, I don't know what to do with myself.
So I started watching Baby-faced Beauty. Even though it's your typical kdrama centered around a dragged-out unnecessary lie, I like the chemistry between the characters. It's something I can watch mindlessly and not really have to invest in. But now that City Hunter is out, maybe I should switch over... Is it worth a look?
I just got home from seeing Jane Eyre in the theater. I highly recommend it. It has all the classic romantic drama tropes we enjoy in kdrama land:
- Poor but strong willed girls who are admired by
- Rich badly tempered men
- Sudden fortune
- Lost relatives who want to marry you
- Secret wives
- Destroying fire
- Mean relatives
- Interrupted weddings
This recent version is beautifully done. If you are in the Twin Cities it is playing at the Riverview for $3.
Gotta admit that I always LOVED Mr. Rochester more than Mr. Darcy! Felt like he had a screw loose or something which *rawr* I find really hot. Which is probably why psycho-Jin appeals to me more than the Adorkably Sweet Doctor.
And jeez, Jane Eyre was just all about the really hot sexual tension between Jane and Rochester. And I still maintain that it was THIS that caused the fire. Poor Bertha.
:/ now I'm doubly sad that I didn't see it in theaters. I'm pretty sure it's gone here. *sigh* I love Jane Eyre. This might be the only version that I've not seen.
Gah, I hate it that the time difference always makes me late for one of these. I just finished watching Hair Show recently and most of the subs were iffy so although I got the gist of it I wasn't so sure about the nuances.
I dunno why but this was one drama where I was yelling at the leads: Don't kiss her! Don't kiss her! Don't... omg she kissed him. Then at the end I was like: Whyyyy after all your angst didn't you get back with your ex and you with your oppa, and wait, did you two get together after all and why are you shaking her off again?
Ah, no, I didn't *not* like it. XD It didn't go the way I expected, and I was just not sure how to interpret it. But I like to watch it over and over and over... I dunno. Maybe it's just Lee Seung Hyo.
Does anybody know if there is like a drama meetup group in Seoul? I'm looking for something to do on the weekends, and I lurve dramas, so I was wondering if there was a group of like-minded (English-speaking) Seoullites.
Nice list! No argument with Won Bin but someone has a screw loose or they are under a certain age.....Cha Seung Won not in the top 5!???! sometimes I wonder!
Whew...finally I can know what all the rawr is about whenever TOP is mentioned.
And Jomo....thank you soooooooooooooooo much for the All That Glitters/Sparkling/Twinkle Twinkle fix! I'm downloading Ep 19 right now, trying to queue up as many as possible to watch on Monday. *huge smile!!!*
*SIGH*
everyone seems to have watched best love ep 8 already!! except me!!!:(
i cant bother with soft subs coz i have a crappy connection therefore can only stream at 360p. even THAT with buffering breaks. OH DRAMACRAZY HOW U HAVE LET ME DOWN!!! SUNDAY ALREADY N NO SUBBED EP 8....*breaks down in tears of helplessness*

I had a awful thought.
She was sipping the drinks in the cinema in the preview?
Don't they me it's an indirect kiss?Nope if he mentioned about it...it must be hot.
She bends her head down to take a sip. When she lifts her lips off she discovers Ki Joon gazing at her.
Mesmerized their heads turn...towards each other.

Bringing Up Baby is a personal favorite!
Also, if you like the Hepburn/Grant duo, there's The Philadelphia Story.
It happened One Night starring Colbert/Gable
The Lady Eve starring Stanwyk/Fonda
Basically, I'm agreeing that contemporary rom-coms suck and screwball comedies from the thirties/early forties are awesome.

Some of my old-tyme favorites are:

Editor is absolutely my weakness. Although he is not graceful with the ladies, he is kind and he is trying to understand and please JW with all his might .
I love how they have this sageuk type character saying all the onomatopoeia words or double double words.
I want to cut together a video of his and JW's conversations and arguments. JW is a great heroine who has to overcome a lot of bad luck

Happy Friday Everyone!
