Heirs: Episode 6

High school, man. It’s a minefield no matter where you go, but when your social classes consist of rich, richer, and richest, everything from picking an extracurricular activity to where you sit during lunch turns into a feat of diplomacy and a reevaluation of your net worth. Eun-sang goes to her new school to find more familiar faces than she bargained for, and gets quite literally stuck between the devil who used to run hell and the devil who runs it now. Guess there’s no such thing as nice guys in hell OR high school.

EPISODE 6 RECAP

Tan and Young-do start their school day with an alpha dog sniffing session (ew, not like that), tossing tense greetings back and forth, all the while sizing each other up for the war ahead.

Of course Eun-sang walks obliviously in between them, breaking the glaring contest and surprising both boys. Tan asks why she’s here without a uniform, while Young-do happily considers this a two-for-one deal. Before the tension swallows her up whole, Chan-young steps in to drag her away by the wrist. We’re gonna get an earful about that later from your girlfriend, aren’t we?

And then Rachel steps in to try and put a stop to things before they escalate, but Young-do just yanks her close and says they aren’t done yet—there wasn’t even a hug, or tears.

Tan yanks her back to his side by the wrist (UGH, seriously, are you two going to have your pissing contest by yanking girls around?) and tells Young-do he won’t be getting a hug, but he can comply by wringing tears if he likes.

Young-do feigns worry at all the tense mornings in store, so Tan tells him he’s free to transfer schools any time he wants. After all, Tan can’t go since his mother is the principal. Young-do: “Ah, so you’re differentiating between mother and mommy now? Oops, was that going too far for our first day?”

Young-do walks away and Rachel takes Tan aside, leaving Bo-na to explain to her friend that that was Satan—her first love. Ha.

Rachel complains about having to hear about Tan’s return through the rumor mill, but he doesn’t seem concerned about her feelings, not that he ever was. He answers honestly that Eun-sang’s transfer was a decision made by his parents, as is everything in his life, “just like my engagement.” Not that I feel sorry for her, but ouch.

Chan-young sighs that Eun-sang should’ve called him so they could walk into school together, while she wonders why he didn’t tell her that Tan was Jeguk’s second son. Chan-young thought it was the least of her problems given that she and her mom have nowhere else to go at the moment (and to be fair, it’s not like he imagined Tan would return).

He turns her focus toward surviving here at Jeguk High, and tells her that there’s a strict class system here. Of course there is. First class: heirs to business conglomerates. These are your chaebol sons and daughters—Young-do, Rachel, et al.

Second class: stockholder heirs. They won’t end up running entire companies, but come with lives fully loaded and pre-paved, like Bo-na for instance. Third class: reputation heirs. These are the children of congressmen, generals, and other powerful people, and include Hyo-shin and Myung-soo.

And then the fourth and final class is where Chan-young and Eun-sang belong: the charity class. She sees how she might fit there, since she is here by the benevolence of others, but is surprised to learn that as the son of a secretary, Chan-young is a nobody here too.

Eun-sang gapes, wondering where that leaves her. Chan-young tells her to perk up—she has at least one friend here, which is more than anyone else had when they started, including him.

Eun-sang gets called to the office to fill out general forms, and already she rubs up against having to list her mother’s occupation, and another student overhears the teacher pointing out that she’s a maid.

She goes to her first class, which she shares with both Tan and Young-do. She introduces herself, and another student asks how she got into this school, leading to a long awkward silence. Finally Tan breaks the moment by insisting he’s a transfer student too, and gets up to give his introduction, saving Eun-sang from having to answer the question. It doesn’t go unnoticed by Young-do.

At home, Madam Han finds Mom wearing a maid’s uniform and scrubbing the bathtub, like a scene straight out of The Housemaid. Hilariously, it turns out Mom is actually role-playing Jeon Do-yeon for funsies. Madam Han grumbles at her choice of movies. Ha.

Madam Han goes out to visit Madam Jung on purpose, like she’s just asking for trouble. These two only ever go in circles making threats and throwing fits, with no real progress.

Tan comes by the broadcast club to visit Hyo-shin, who greets him warmly (well, as warmly as anybody does in this icebox of a school). Bo-na walks in and despite Tan’s harmless and nice greeting, she runs off alarmed, convinced he’s looking for Chan-young to fight him because he’s still not over her. HAHAHA. I love her.

Myung-soo stops Eun-sang in the hallway to ask her what she is, explaining that when someone just shows up out of nowhere it means she’s either a charity case or nouveau riche. So which is she?

Eun-sang looks over at Bo-na, who doesn’t offer any help and tells her to answer it herself. She doesn’t, but it leaves everyone rather curious—who is she that on her first day she knows Tan, Young-do, Bo-na, Chan-young, and Rachel?

Tan walks up calling her “overnight riches,” which Myung-soo takes at face value. Tan wants to chat, but Eun-sang snubs him squarely and turns the other way.

She walks outside, where Young-do is lying in wait and sticks his foot out to trip her, just to save her with a hand-grab. Wow, is everything you do that double-sided? Oh wait, yes it is. He says he’s going to trip her often, and asks her again what her relationship to Tan is.

She points out that if he’s so interested in Tan he should go to the source, and Young-do wonders why she isn’t more afraid of him. Young-do: “Oh, I forgot to introduce you. You’re mine.”

He hardly means it in the romantic sense, though he totally enjoys letting her think that for a frightening two seconds, before explaining that the other kids call it a shuttle (as in, a lackey to go fetch things).

He continues with his characteristic faux-romance speak: “Now that you know my feelings, what is your relationship to Tan?” But Tan walks up to say he should ask him directly, and sighs at Eun-sang for running away when he wanted to talk.

He gives her an out which she gladly takes, and Young-do glowers at Tan for ruining his chance to make friends with the transfer student. Tan: “Having no friends suits you better. You’re going to throw them away in an instant, so why bother making any?” Buuurn.

Tan finally gets a chance to talk to Eun-sang, and promises he wasn’t trying to hide the truth from her. She points out that it doesn’t matter, because she feels exposed regardless. His response just kills me: “Did you… cry?”

She changes the subject and asks why he turned her into an overnight millionaire, worried that living a lie is just going to make things harder. He tells her that sticking by his side will quell any doubt on that matter, and tells her to stay close, and avoid Young-do.

But Eun-sang says she’s interested in having a regular school life, and she’s already figured out that the person she ought to avoid isn’t Young-do. So far all the unwanted attention she’s receiving is because of Tan, and she asks him to pretend they don’t know each other.

Tan calls Chan-young to meet, and warns him not to tell anyone about Eun-sang living at his house as the daughter of his family’s maid. Chan-young scoffs that he’s asking Eun-sang’s best friend to keep his mouth shut as if it even needs to be said, but Tan points out (perhaps from experience?) that often the oldest friends can end up bringing you down because they know too much.

The best part is that Bo-na arrives, sees the two boys talking, and immediately gets on her phone and whirls around like she didn’t just see them together. Tan says it seems like Bo-na’s still into him, and Chan-young wonders why anyone would have lingering feelings over a rundown car (literally “poop car”). Tan: “Poop car?” Their playful rivalry is cute.

Eun-sang comes home and asks Mom if they can’t find some way to leave this house—she’ll work extra jobs, and Mom can work elsewhere, right? But Mom has been fired from enough jobs for her disability to know that no job beats this one. Eun-sang cries that it’s unfair, but Mom points out that it’s unfair to her too, even as her heart breaks.

Eun-sang heads down to the wine cellar for some peace and quiet, and Tan hides out of view again. She looks up used Jeguk uniforms online but finds no hits, and sits back with some music, not realizing that Tan is sitting on the other side of the wall.

He asks her to meet, so she asks where he is, which is when he pops out in person and scares the daylights out of her. She wonders if he’s been here before, and he cops to it, guessing that her worry is to do with some secret wine cellar bad girl behavior.

He takes her hand and leans in like he’s going to kiss it… and then declares that it isn’t smoking. “Was it cursing my name?” He tells her to eat lunch with him tomorrow at school, and explains her that her options are basically to transfer back to her old school or play the nouveau riche girl who’s friends with him. Those options suck.

The next day Eun-sang sits down alone with her lunch, when Joon-young (the kid who was being harassed by Young-do when we first met him) tells her that this is his seat.

He tells her in a low voice that he overheard her mother’s occupation in the teacher’s office, and tells her not to think of outing herself. Oh, this conversation is not going where I thought it was going.

He warns her to keep her head down to survive, and nearly pushes her out of the way repeating that this is his seat. Moments later we see why, as Young-do and his gang arrive at the table to harass him. Aw, he just saved her, didn’t he?

She sees them terrorize the poor guy, and opens her mouth to confront Young-do. Eep. I totally want her to, but I also equally want her to hide. But Tan swoops in to remind her pointedly that they were supposed to eat lunch together and pulls her aside.

She realizes now that this is why Tan insisted on the lunch date, because he anticipated her hazing. She asks how he knew. Tan: “Because those are the rules I made.” So… the Satan thing wasn’t really an exaggeration then.

Young-do plops his plate down next to hers and joins them for lunch. He doesn’t let her leave, so she figures to hell with it and just eats anyway. I don’t know how she can even swallow her food with Young-do breathing down her neck and Tan playing goalie, but she does.

A little later, Young-do makes a big show of finding Tan and making everyone clear the room, and Tan asks if they’re supposed to throw punches or something. Young-do laughs that they’re not eight anymore, and says it boils down to this: they can’t possibly go to the same school. You always say that, but then it always ends with this.

Young-do tells him to transfer, “Before ‘son of a concubine’ comes out of my mouth.” Tan gets up at that, countering that at eighteen he’s still too young to fully grasp the losing-is-winning concept (yeah eighteen-year-olds don’t really say that, but okay).

Tan figures that playing nice is down the toilet, and Young-do adds that it’s too late for avoidance. They get closer… and closer… and then we cut. Huh? Well either they kiss or they stare and then walk away. Hey if you leave it to me, my brain’s gonna fill in the blanks however I please!

After school, Young-do is busy getting his bike tuned when Eun-sang runs in to make a chicken delivery to the shop. This time he recognizes her, and soon she’s back for a second delivery. The employees say it isn’t their order, so she calls the customer’s number.

Young-do picks up and shows up right behind her. He pays for his chicken, laughing at the hoops he’s jumping through to get her phone number (though it is funny that his way is faster and smarter than Tan’s, which on second thought is scary) and tells her to save his number.

She refuses, but he warns that if she doesn’t, he’ll start asking questions, like why an overnight millionaire’s daughter is making chicken deliveries. Stop smiling at her! It’s confusing.

Tan comes home and points out to Dad that one son’s return has led to the other son’s disappearance, and Dad tells him to keep tomorrow free so they can go visit hyung.

Won is still staying at the hotel, and the next morning Hyun-joo comes with porridge for him because he’s feeling sick. But one phone call from work sends him off with a curt non-explanation, and Hyun-joo leaves, clearly having experienced this kind of brush-off before.

Tan stops in his tracks when he realizes Dad’s idea of “go see hyung” is to go to the office, and judging by his reaction it’s basically like stepping foot inside the palace walls. Tan tries to get out of it, but Dad orders him inside, saying that this isn’t for either of the sons, but for Dad.

The chairman has no qualms about calling the emergency meeting on a Saturday, and the employees rush in. Won gets held up in traffic and comes in late, which is when Dad stops the meeting to introduce Tan as his second son to the company for the first time. If looks could kill, we’d have a Cain and Abel situation right there on the conference room floor.

Everyone else clears the room, and Tan tells hyung that he didn’t come here intentionally—Dad sprung it on him, and he wouldn’t have come if he had known they were coming here.

Won sneers that he never does anything on purpose, but he should know what happens as a direct result of his movements, whether intentional or not. Tan doesn’t disagree, but feels slighted anyway—what is he supposed to do when his very existence is the thorn in his brother’s side?

Madam Han is overjoyed at the news that Tan was taken to work, and her barrage of questions sends Tan fleeing. He finds Eun-sang hanging the sheets out to dry in the sun, and stays out of view as she sighs to herself that she’s a millionaire by day and a maid by night.

She falls asleep in her chair, and Tan sits watching her sleep for a little while, and fixes the band-aid on her hand. When she wakes up, she finds the dreamcatcher hanging above her.

Rachel’s mom and Chan-young’s dad have another run-in at the hotel, where she gets pissy about him not calling her. She manages to belittle his social standing while seeming desperate for his attention all at once, and I’m beginning to see why Rachel is the way she is.

Eun-sang is still walking around school without a uniform, and she asks her teacher if there’s a chance she can get a scholarship for her tuition. The teacher doesn’t think she has a chance in hell to compete with students who have been prepping for the ivy league their whole lives, and then adds more to her plate by reminding her that she has to pick a sport between tennis, golf, and horseback riding, the equipment for which she needs to pay for. Eesh.

But she passes by a sign in the hallway looking to fill a broadcast club PD position, the payment for which is a scholarship. Ding! She goes to see Hyo-shin right away and asks about the scholarship, admitting that she needs cash for a uniform. He wonders why if she’s rich, and she hurriedly says she blew her allowance on a new purse and doesn’t want to get in trouble.

He doesn’t seem to think that’s weird, though he’s not exactly quick to believe her pitch that she’s really hardworking. But she butters him up as best she can and asks to at least apply for the job.

She comes back out to find the rest of the students crowded around Young-do terrorizing Joon-young again, this time getting violent and even scarier, if that’s possible. Notably, Tan is standing right there just a few feet away, doing absolutely nothing.

Eun-sang makes her way to the front of the crowd, just itching to say something and put a stop to it. But just as she’s about to, this time Joon-young stands up for himself and fights back, flinging his backpack and scraping Young-do’s face, drawing blood. Oh noes.

Young-do flips him over onto the ground and steps on him for effect, all the while staring right at Eun-sang. He says full of portent: “I look forward to all the things that’ll happen to you,” and leaves her shaking.

She runs up to Joon-young to ask if he’s okay, and only then does Tan step in to drag her away with the warning not to get involved in stuff like this. He asks her if anyone else is helping that kid, and she looks around. He tells her to never take the weak person’s side at this school, because that’ll seal her fate as one of them.

Rachel fumes to see them together again, and takes out Eun-sang’s customs card to call her. She tells her to bring her nametag and makes a whole show of abiding by the school’s caste system, believing that Eun-sang is beneath her for being new money.

She warns her to stay away from Tan, and Eun-sang says it’s what she wants too, and returns the nametag. Rachel lies that she threw away the customs card and takes out cash to tip her, and Eun-sang fights back tears.

Young-do buys another ramyun at the convenience store in Tan’s (and Myung-soo’s) neighborhood, where he spots Eun-sang in the same exact place he noticed her the first time.

He smiles and parks it across from her and eats silently. He kicks at the table to try and wake her, which is when we see that this time, she isn’t actually sleeping, and hoping desperately to get out of this situation somehow.

Young-do: “Why are you always sleeping in places like this? It makes me want to protect you.”

He’s interrupted by a call from Tan, and they get their spikes up, all You know my number, and You knew mine first.

Tan asks how his ramyun tastes, and Young-do looks up to see Tan staring at him from across the street, looking back and forth between him and Eun-sang.

COMMENTS

I wish there was a little more to that last scene, because it ends like it’s some crazy charged moment, but it falls rather flat given the numerous other encounters they’ve had at school. Some context might’ve been nice, if jealousy or misunderstanding was the point. Though I suppose with a love triangle this antagonistic, just being seen together is supposed to be enough of a thing?

Anyway, I do like Young-do’s character (as a character, not so much as a human), because I can never tell what he means. Is he flirting or terrorizing? With the kid he bullies on a daily basis, the sweet talk masks the menacing meaning between the lines, but with Eun-sang it takes on an extra confusing layer because he’s overtly flirting while being scary. For now he’s clearly doing it to get a rise out of Tan, but he seems destined to go the way of Gu Jun-pyo—you know, that jerky ass-backwards thing of pulling on a girl’s pigtails like a child until you realize later that your interest in terrorizing her has turned into interest-interest.

And while I appreciate that in this drama the hero isn’t such a jerk, Tan clearly has a past as quite the epic hooligan, and it seems as though his current apathy is the only way he’s figured out how to be—if he turns everything off, he can ignore the problem instead of facing it. What a waste of a life to be so jaded at eighteen, though I suppose it leaves a lot of room for his growth.

I’m much more interested in Eun-sang if she’s the type of person to stand up for a bullied classmate, because for one, it gives her some other identity than just the poor girl, not to mention that it would make her pretty awesome as a person. So far she’s just teetering on the brink, so we’ll have to see how that develops, but if she’s the catalyst for getting Tan to start caring and standing up to Young-do, that’d be great too. He’s obviously not afraid to stand up for himself, but doing so for a classmate seems completely outside his concern. Young-do acting out and being a bully, I expected; Tan turning a blind eye and even stopping Eun-sang from being nice to the bullied kid was tragic. It makes him no better, especially when he has the power to do something about it.

I’ve been watching every episode with the feeling like I was waiting for the show to get going, but by now it seems that this is just the rhythm of this show. It’s always going to feel this way—a step or two behind anticipation, filled with so many lingering looks that I could swear half the episode was silent, and more weighted towards setup than payoff. I mean, I don’t know how long we’re going to have to watch the bulls circle each other with no showdown, and already I found myself wishing they’d just come to blows in this episode so they’d stop dancing and have a new dynamic to react to. While I find the tension between the boys interesting, I’m not impressed that their idea of asserting dominance is yanking girls around by the wrist. If Eun-sang’s position in this love triangle is going to be Bromance Bargaining Chip, well then BLERGH, I say. I’m putting faith in her no-nonsense demeanor that she won’t stand for that, but right now it feels like a shaky hope more than a grounded assumption.

That’s not to say that I don’t enjoy the show, because it’s certainly easy to watch. It just requires a shift in expectation, because there’s very little plot here, and much more focus on micro events and a general mood. The mood, I like—it’s simultaneously jaded and dreamy, which sounds weird but is effective. And the writer’s style fits rather perfectly with children acting like adults. Overall I’m much happier now that we’re in school and everyone’s got a complicated web of overlapping relationships, and we’ve got a reason to watch all the different pairings interact. I think the characterizations are complex enough to keep me interested, though if we got a little plot up in here, I sure wouldn’t complain. Or yunno, some kisses.

Eun Sang doesn't have the martial arts skills of a typical Japanese manga anti-bullying heroine, but this show would take on a entirely different aspect if she decided to come to school with a taser every day to enforce civilized behavior.

Absolutely. I would teach those bullie how life works. Preliminary question: "You're not suffering from a heart disease, aren't you?" NO? Snap!
I'd love for YD to ask me to be his slave: I would paint his dog in pink, drug his coffee, pour sugar in the tank of his motorbike and gazoline in his coffee. A$$holes stimulate my creativity.

Life is hell for the rich in Seoul. I don't understand why more of them don't give their money away and become small restaurant owners. The people who run the small, run-down restaurants in Korea are the only people with a decent family life.

Disappointing that this episode had such a slow pace- nothing really happened. I would have to agree with the many viewers here that it is disappointing that Kim Tan didn't do anything about the bullying (esp since he was in a better position to)- but as another viewer mentioned Kim Tan did say that he wanted to live a quiet HS life and for him that may mean not drawing anymore attention to himself by interfering. Also, why isn't anyone telling off the many other bystanders there? They could have said or done something as well!!

Kim Tan all the way! Someone here called him dull! Dramafan100? As I always say- there's someone for everyone. hahha. I like him because he's observant, caring, loyal and funny. Being good-looking doesn't hurt either. It's disappointing he didn't do anything about the bullying but hey, not everyone's perfect.

I really wanted to enjoy the drama but I guess life is life. I keep FF most if not most scenes because it's just so slow and damn boring. They keep showing the same stuffs in one episode like arguing, arguing, staring, glaring and whatever you want. GOSH O.O

" I’m not impressed that their idea of asserting dominance is yanking girls around by the wrist" THANK YOU FOR THAT COMMENT.

I want to add that I know it's fiction world, need to follow the script or whatever but I really don't understand why when Tan tried to stop ES helping the bullied by grabbing her wrist, she didn't react that much. If she really wanted to rebel and help this guy, she would have tried to use more force ?
I noticed it but every single time when someone is doing something and then somebody else tries to interfere by grabbing the person or whatever, WHY THE HELL DOES THE PERSON DO NOTHING ? Yeah, he grabbed your hand or whatever but when you really do want to do something, you don't let anyone stop you unless you wanted to be stopped ? I don't know.
Anyway, I'm still watching the show but if they keep not showing Bo Na and Chan Young's moments for some parts, I quit. Plus the whole love triangle is so damn BORING.

I don't know why, but all the wrist grabbing scenes in k-dramas are really starting to get on my nerves. Perhaps that is one reason I am somewhat disappointed in Heirs - the supposed heroine seems to spend half her life getting wrist grabbed and drug around.

I started to wonder where that wrist grabbing trope started from, and dug back just a little, and apparently it was not all that common until around 2004 dramas. I recall also that for a while, in almost every drama some girl would break a high heel shoe - and then all of sudden it just stopped showing up.

Sometimes for me the origin of common clichés is interesting, even though not reading Korean makes it hard to really dig very far.

This is has to be the slowest drama I've ever watched. Nothing happens, but I'm still addicted. I was hoping Eun-Sang would do something so I would have something to root for, but nope, she continues to be the mopey depressing girl that she is. I *get* it...her life sucks. But can we please give her more personality?! I care more about the side characters than her.

Young-do continues to grow on me. I really want to know how the falling out happened between the two. But when they were in the room together staring...I was like...KISS!! LOL

Bo-na is fun as comic relief, but I sort of hope we get one moment from her that makes us realize that she's actually aware of her actions and everything she's doing is a product of upbringing and a defense mechanism. That would make me root for her even more!!

I didn't have a problem with the slow pace of the episode. It set up a lot of situations, questions and relationships that are going to be a big part of the drama to come. What I didn't like was the two back to back scenes, the first between Eun Sang's mom and Bio-Mom with The Housemaid homage or whatever you call it. Eun Sang's mom says it's to change the mood. Makes no sense to me. The second was between Bio-Mom and Legal-Mom in which they seem to almost be breaking the fourth wall with their talk of shots etc. This can sometimes be okay in certain types of drama but Heirs one isn't one of them. Kind of a cheap trick.

I totally get why Eun Sang doesn't immediately jump in to defend the bullied student. She a new girl in a scary, unfamiliar environment full of hostile, angry, entitled fellow students. Plus certain people keep telling her keep your head down, don't make waves, pretend to be something you're not (ie nouveau riche). But she is smart enough to realize that these are never going to be solutions to her problem which is how to get a good diploma from an elite high school without being slammed into a locker and eating lunch alone everyday. Plus her first instinct is to help and I look forward to the day when she actually does it.

Part of what gives these people their power is the other characters' acknowledgement that they have this power. What happens if Eun Sang says to them, "I'm not rich, I'm a maid's daughter here on charity, I work two jobs to help my poor, disabled mother and, oh yeah, I live in a tiny broom closet in Kim Tan's family mansion. So what are you going to do about it? Bully me? I'd like to see you try." Now that's a radical solution to her problem.

I'm really fascinated by the question of Tan's illegitimacy. Young-do makes two references to it. First he makes a slam at Tan calling either his Mom or Mother. Then he threatens to play the illegitimate card if Tan doesn't transfer. Young-do is privy to very secret information. How did he find out? Tan admits that before he was sent to America, he started the whole school bullying culture that Young-do is perpetuating and that Young-do once functioned as Tan's chief minion. Tan used to see himself as at the top of the hierarchical heap but now he doesn't and even understands that he is in a very vulnerable position. Plus he is sent to live in luxurious yet isolated exile in America So why? Perhaps Tan, Young-do and maybe even Won found out about Tan's illegitimacy and the what is essentially fraud used to disguise it at the same time and in a particularly traumatic way.

Young-do id really very mean! I think he is meaner than Go Jun Pyo. Scary!

I am freaking jealous of Lee Boo Na's American Accent. Very much jealous. I repeated that scene for like 3-4 times. English is my second language so my accent is not as good as hers.

I like this episode and if I were Eun Sang I would get the hell out that school with bunch of spoiled brats. She'll be a social climber if she stays there.

K-drama newbie here, lured in by the ridiculousness of BOF (I could only watch a couple of episodes before it got a little much, still prefer the Taiwanese original, but it was my first intro to LMH!), then I was told City Hunter was a must see...and it was...and now, checking out Heirs.

The fact that LMH is in all these dramas is obviously not a great factor in my drama decisions. Nope, not a bit. :)

I'm enjoying Heirs so far. It's a drastic, drastic switch from the last K-drama I watched, City Hunter with its tightly plotted episodes, and blisteringly fast pace, and while I agree with the majority sentiment that the pacing COULD be a bit faster, I'm not hating the drawn out expositions either. If City Hunter is like the Amazing Race of Vacations from Reality, then Heirs is it's Lounging By the Pool in the Sun and Getting a bit Sunburnt Because you Forget to Turn Regularly counterpart.

I like that the characters of KT and CES are very realistic in their reactions to the situations they find themselves in. I find it highly believable that CES would waver in the face of the bullying even though her instinct is to help, but the instinct to survive is stronger. That happens in real life, doesn't it? And KT is believable too, in that he wants a quiet life, and only intervenes when he is so invested that he can't stop himself, which is clearly the case when it comes to CES.

I can't figure CES out that well yet. KT is obviously smitten, if the various montages of the incessant staring weren't enough indication, but CES...I don't know. Her tears when he revealed himself as the second son...was their primary motivation humiliation or sadness because it only underlined and drove home the point even more that she shouldn't even consider the idea of she and KT happening (crazy fiancee aside)? My sense is she DOES like him, but is holding herself back because of aforementioned fiancee, and now the whole son of my mom's boss thing...but does she KNOW he likes her? I mean it's obvious to ME that he does, but is it obvious to her?!

The deal with Rachel needs to be resolved. I confess that I'm a little confused about KT and her 'relationship'...I get that it's not romantic at all on his part, but I can't figure her out. Does she really like him as a person, or because "in their small world, there is no better match"? Or if she doesn't like him, is she trying really hard because its what their families expect? Also, can someone please explain to me what KT meant when he said he is engaged to her so that he won't have to marry her later? Maybe the real meaning got lost in translation, but um...as far as I know, that's exactly what being engaged means: You will marry the person later. If it's a compliance to the family decision thing, then Rachel has a much stronger commitment to compliance than KT does...or is it a case of where for an engaged girl, it would be taboo to hang out and pursue other guys, but everyone turns a blind eye when KT does it, because he's a guy?

As for the whole KT-YD antagonistic relationship...yes, agree definitely getting Gossip Girl vibes here, another poster pointed out that KT is like the Serena, and YD is the Blair. KT has returned, and seems uninterested in reclaiming his crown...but what are his reasons? A true change of heart? Or is it because of what YD is holding over his head, the knowledge of his birth? And to that, can someone explain why Rachel and the rest of the watching crowd didn't pick up on YD's statements about KT differentiating between moms? Rachel at least, was definitely close enough to have heard that. She wasn't the least bit curious? And are the circumstances of KT's birth such a big deal? From what I understand, the Legal Wife has officially claimed him as her own...so isn't that the same as being officially adopted by the family? Why would his status and position be in danger if anyone found out?

I'm excited to see how the school story arc will develop...we all know that CES WILL eventually be outed, and I'm predicting that at some point, KT WILL wrest control from YD. I don't foresee a happy ending for the KT-Rachel thing..whether it will end when they find out that KT is the son of the mistress, or in a more dramatic fashion (a wedding! CES declaring her love! Rachel escaping on YD's motorcyle!..wait, you say this isn't a Soap Opera?) I think it WILL end.

As for the YD-CES connection...yeah I could see it happening, but I hope its done in a way that won't make me shake CES...as in YD better display he has a decent human being somewhere deep in that evil-smirky facade of his. And side note..I actually like his hair. I dunno why. it suits the persona? Satan Ken Doll? Hmm.

To end this massive novel...LMH is a good looking guy, and perhaps the Show Runners decided he was TOO good looking and would distract us from the actual show, and have thus decided to diminish the pretty with liberal amounts of fuchsia lipstick and by sticking him in the craziest sweaters known to man. I know it's cutting edge high fashion...but um..the other guys get to look high fashion without FALLING off the edge. I suppose this is another reason I enjoy the school scenes...KT in his school uniform? A++ (Also, why are KT's pants so much more fitted than YD's? This made me giggle.)

Thank you Dramabeans, love reading your recaps, I can honestly say that reading them while watching City Hunter is one of the reasons I loved that show even more. To the rest of the posters, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and I look forward to 'hanging out' with you all as Heirs progresses!!!!

Big fat ditto to your post :D My last korean show was City Hunter as well ..but that was the first time I was watching LMH and for some weird reason after that I did not want to watch a younger LMH in BOF...but look now I am here watching him play a high schooler...lol :P I don't mind the colorful pants and the cute panda chain he wears...but those sweaters oh my...they are very very distracting.

@CES character....I so agree I don't quite understand her reactions to KT. I think she knows he's flirting around big time but unfortunately for her there are so many new ppl around her that it's overwhelming.

@KT...His deal with rachel has to be resolved yes.. It seems to me that he is being a jerk to her because that's his lazy way of rebelling to something that his family made him do..and he hopes that she does the same..and probably by being mean to her she won't fall for the real him..

Haha..I had the opposite experience...LMH in BOF intrigued me so much that even though GJP was so over the top, I needed to see him again in another role. Still, I'm enjoying seeing him play KT!

It's an interesting mixture I see so far... the arrogance from BOF is totally muted at the moment (though I suspect as Lucifer of Past, he had plenty of that going on...and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that he was worse than YD...although maybe not, as in his quest to be top dog, YD might be acting out and doing things even KT never did to make the point that as bad as Lucifer of Past was, Lucifer of Present is even meaner...?), but we've got some touches of the City Hunter intensity in his confrontations with YD and Hyung, although admittedly less steely (with YD) and much more vulnerable with Hyung...really nice to see!

I know GF and JB have said previously that Faith wasn't LMH's strongest showing, I haven't watched that so I'm curious to see what they think about him in this one...what are everyone else's thoughts?

Yeah, the relationship with Rachel is a little crazy to me. I mean, obviously the girl isn't stupid...I don't think she's 'happy' with this arrangement because she's in love with KT...more like...he is a good match for her, and being his wife would mean she gets a slice of the Empire...empire (excuse the pun, haha), so she will fight to be with him. But her reactions when he says things like, I go shopping with you because it doesn't feel like a date, or I'm only engaged to you because of our families, hints that there IS something there. Maybe our little hell beast DOES genuinely like KT?! And if so, I'd be curious to know why (apart from the rich, goodlooking, heir part)...they have obviously known each other since they were kids..so...

I really want to know how YD found out about KT's birth circumstances...and another thing...does no one know of KT's mom (the Mistress) existence? How is that possible? Does she never go out in public with Empire Chairman? She leaves the house obviously, Won knows who she is...don't they ever have functions at the Kim mansion, how do they explain another woman living there, or have they passed it off that as Legal Wife and Chairman are separated and living in different houses, Chairman now brought his mistress to live with him? So many questions!

The falling out between the two boys is something I'm looking forward to finding out.

I did like the scene at the cafeteria with KT, CES and YD. It made me really wish I could understand Korean (actually, most of this drama makes me wish that!) because I feel like so much is lost with the english translation! Like the scene with Legal Wife and Mistress in the gallery..where KT's mom asks the wife if she's Rapunzel...in another place, I read that the mistress was asking if she was a Rotten Apple? Cue confusion. So yeah..the lunch scene..why was KT so frustrated at YD? Was it because he wouldn't leave, or was it as CES? Who was he telling to transfer schools? YD or CES? Help?

Also..was the money Rachel threw at CES as an insult enough for a uniform?

KT has the best chemistry with his Hyung hands down!

LOL @Empire's empire.. Yep Rachel and KT have known each other as kids...I think Rachel definitely finds him attractive now..(everyone finds KT pretty...even the board of directors of the Empire group...LMAO ;) ) and she longs to be treated respectfully as his fiance in the public...and with the way he shuts her out...she feels terribly insulted.

@Mistress...I know! it's not like she is invisible..I'm assuming there were/are rumors about it but since KT was the big badass in school no one would dare question him unless of course it's his partner in crime who turns against him and makes it a point of ridicule....KT hasn't acknowledged the fact in public..and YD is only trying to instigate him..

I watch videos from gooddrama and I hope that those are a good version for english subtitles!.. I agree that things do get lost in translation.. @cafe scene... KT was annoyed at YD cos he sat uninvited.. YD only refers to CES as the transfer student..

@money Rachel throws ...If I'm right it amounts to only 100,000 won but the uniforms cost 1000$

@KT's relationship with his Hyung: I totally agree! This relationship to be is as riveting as the KT/CES one, perhaps even more...Dramabeans have pointed out the similarities in the girls that the Kim brothers fall for..and personally, I can't wait for KT to start interacting with Hyung's girlfriend...she's supposed to be a teacher/tutor isn't she, so perhaps this is the way to Hyung's heart?

@Rachel and KT's past: ...actually KT's past with everyone...another thing I'm really curious about. He's said himself he was a terror, but despite that, it seems like he did have people who genuinely cared about him..'vomiting' Sunbae (um..someone tell me his name, I'm drawing a blank) looks to have a good relationship with him, and Bo Na, despite her delusions that KT is about to fight CY to the death for her hand, seems to have genuinely liked him too...

@Mistress…I rewatched the episode from goodrama this time, and you're right, the subs made more sense there..but it made it even more apparent what YD said when Rachel was nearby...about KT using different titles to distinguish between mom's..so what's the deal, if it's some big secret, why is YD using his most powerful weapon against KT (at least until he figures out that CES is KT's developing weak spot) so casually?

And the cafeteria scene...is it weird that even though I was horrified to find out that KT knew all about the hazing because HE created the rituals, it was sweet how he is trying to protect CES (in his lazy way)? I giggled at the spoon throwing and the exasperated way he rubbed at his eyes..at if the whole thing was entirely too troublesome and he was getting a headache..but he couldn't leave the girl alone with YD!

@Rachel's money...jeez. Clearly not enough to buy $1000 uniforms. As a side note, when LBN's friend was playing the piano, one of her buttons was about to go flying off, haha. Guess $1000 doesn't get you quality stitching these days? For shame wardrobe department, hehe. And...more sweaters for KT..haha..I actually found some of them cute this time..the white snowflake one? I would totally wear that. And the parrot sweater...not going to lie, I was loving the deep red pants...I'm not quite sure if I'm the target audience for KT's clothes, but there it is :D

I loved Lee Min-ho in Faith. In my opinion, he is not given the credit he deserves for portraying such a stoic and valiant character as General Choi Young. In the end, as a viewer you truly witnessed the transformation of his character--Choi Young. His character dealt with keeping his word/promise while others in power could care less if he broke the promise (literally for him was his life), apathy towards the instability of the crown, politics surrounding the king, protecting the king and his court, constant survival/threats, wanting to continue to live and love again, bearing the burden (emotionally and physically) of the sword/job, and last but not least time travel.

Faith the drama may not have been perfect (mostly all dramas have flaws), but Lee Min-ho did an excellent job!

@August

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Faith! It's all on Hulu now, so I'll definitely be putting that one on my watch list. I must say, I think LMH plays action roles really well (my inner City Hunter fangirl is roaring her approval here) but I do like seeing him do this quiet intensity thing with flare ups of passion and temper.

About the birth secret...did I somehow miss them mentioning that KT told YD about the birth secret? Why would that cause a falling out though? Is it because YD would suddenly see KT as no longer on his level? And speaking of...why is YD such a big shot at school? Empire is a giant conglomerate that owns everything (I think?) while YD's family owns one hotel, or is it a chain? So is YD's family the Hilton's of their world?

KT told YD about his birth secret. This might have led to them falling out with each other.

In episode 3 away from the pancake restaurant, KT reminds Rachel that around when they were ten years old, she had a crush on Won and thought that KT was too much of a child to compete for her affections.

It has been subtlety hinted at in several instances:

Episode 4:
Car scene conversation from the airport between Rachel and Young-do: “Did you ever stop to ask why the tiger isn’t in his cave? Could it be that he was just playing a tiger? And that he ran away so he wouldn’t be found out?”

Episode 6:
The initial stare down scene between the alpha males Kim Tan and Young-do. Young-do says to Kim Tan, “Ah, so you’re differentiating between mother and mommy now? Oops, was that going too far for our first day?”

Episode 6:
When Kim Tan tells Chan-young not to disclose to anyone that Eun-sang is living at his house and is the daughter of his family’s maid. Also, Kim Tan remarks that often the oldest friends can end up bringing you down because they know too much about you.

Thanks for the clarification. I did notice all these scenes, but was worried I'd missed a more explicit " Remember when you told me you weren't really a legitimate heir.." conversation.

Which brings me back to my original question: Given that the second wife did claim Tan as her son, or at least, that's the way their family registry is set up, is it a really big deal that's he's not? I mean doesn't being on the registry make him an "official heir" given that he's acknowledged by both his father and his father's wife? Or in their society, would he still be considered a fraud considering that his birth mother is a mistress?

If YD's anger at KT stems primarily from the fact that he's illegitimate, I will be disappointed at the lack of depth...unless they somehow make it that KT used to lord his 'status' over YD, and thus giving YD legitimate reasons to hate him..but again this doesn't make sense to me, given that it seems like YD and KT really were genuine friends in the beginning...flashback, please, Show, I'm dying to know what happened 3 years ago!!

I really liked Lee Minho in Faith. I thought Choi Young was a very interesting character and that both love stories in the drama were mature well written depiction of someone gradually falling in love. I think people were disappointed because the action scenes and villains were not epic but I still found it entertaining. The loves lines were great, bromance was good, and the villains were funny.

I totally disagree with your opinion of the ending. I didn't see the phone call as a misunderstanding or a jealousy act. Kim Tan doesn't think Young Do likes her. There's no love triangle at the moment. He thinks he wants to bully her and hurt her. The whole episode was about that.. That's why this scene was loaded, and that's why he looked at them like this. Well, that's how I saw it :)

Well...Lee Min Ho is superhot and adorable. *-*

Besides that: the plot is getting boooring, and Park Shin Hye is giving more of the same, pouting and opening wide eyes all the time, even the way of walking is the same as in You're beautiful. Back then it was nice, because it fitted with a nun, but not now. So, where is the tough girl we were expecting? Several part-time jobs, a dramatic family situation...I was expecting a more serious and even angry personality, like when she argues with her mother, but I wasn't expecting she would change to helpless and hesitant the rest of the time. The first episode, when she was discussing with the harrassing ahjussies, I thought she might actually perform a different character. It would have been interesting to see it, but now I think I was wrong.

Dunno, maybe I will keep reading recaps and waiting for something better. Even the hotness of LMH is not enough to make me watch another episode...

I think girlfriday's commentary on this episode is spot on. We keep waiting for something to really get going. . . but it doesn't. There's no plot! And I'm sorry, but longing, apathetic staring into space does not make for character development.

I'm also having a really hard time caring about how scandalous it is that Tan's legal mom isn't his birth mom. I realize the writer is going for saeguk-type conflicts here, but it's the 21st century. It's just not working for me. Who cares at this point if Wife #2 and Mistress Han fight like cats and dogs? I'm not the least bit invested in their empty characters, so I don't care.

Yes, it's pretty, but right now that's about all it is.

Let's get some action and modern-day conflict! Soon!

LMH looks so handsome now compared to the LMH in Boys over Flowers. But he acted much better then.

After watching Heirs episodes, I constantly go back to BoF, and what a different LMH. His jaw and nose are the ones I noticed more. Plastic surgery is a lifestyle in Korea, so it doesn't really matter but in my opinion the surgery hindered LMH's much needed facial expressions to convey his lines in a drama or movie. He looks stunning in pictures and still shots.

What a pity, because he was really good in BoF and I could not help but compare him with Kim Woo Bin who is doing a great job.

Well, his eyes are still expressive and I think that is his asset.

Wow, time runs fast and we are now on ep6! This episode is not as nerve wracking as I expect it to be. Characterization is great especially by the younger cast. Forgive me If I pay less attention to ajhummas and ajhussis. They are somewhat wall flower on this show adding some background color.

But the plot for this episode....? is something that left me wondering "is that all?" moment. I think it is lacking in execution and anticipation. It was like, there is some air or gap that is needed to be filled not by OST after OST but with some real scenes to add execution to the plot. Or maybe the director finds himself lazy on this episode, anyway the rating is doing good so let's call it quits today.

I'm crossing my fingers tight that the succeeding episodes will not bore the viewers and just trying to differentiate it from Boys Over Flowers and School 2013, otherwise it will be the downfall of the whole thing. It is totally powerhouse cast that some of them are having less screen time. On this episode, I'm not sad nor happy. I will still wait for Wed-Thurs (actually Thursday & Friday to be able to watch it with subs) to give justification why I am watching The Heirs.

Truthfully, if it were not for the charismatic cast, people would tend to notice the script doesn't include any dialogue. The actors just mouth computer generated generic sentences written to explain what their characters are doing. And, for some reason, the director decided to not even bother with that for Park Shin Hye's character. Half the time, she's just standing around like a tree stump waiting for someone else to say or do something to advance the scene.

I would like some help with a few basic questions I have below:

1) How many years of HS are there in Korea? Here it's four years with students graduating when they're 18.

Are they all supposed to be 18 and in their last year of school? I only ask because I believed in one of the prior episodes they referred to ES as a 2nd yr student, which would make her 16 not 18.

2)What's up with KT's father's hands? Does he have arthritis? I get it's the actor's mannerism's but it's distracting that he's twisting his hands and not looking @ the person speaking to him.

3)I'm assuming that the drama is still filming future episodes to air. Anyone know which one they're up to?

I only ask cause if the writers get feedback early enough from viewers that a character or a direction they're going in is totally off base, they can save it before filming has ended.

4) There has been much talk about the writer for this drama. Please educate me, is it truly one writer, or a team of writer's and she's the head one?

Please say it's the second one. I can appreciate one writer's voice for a two hour movie, but not a 20 hour episodic drama show. You need the different voices of several writers to bring richness to the characters. One voice becomes stagnant and boring after a while.

5) I get all the references to BOF, lead actor, similar storyline etc. BUT if they were really going to head down that road wouldn't Lee Min Ho have turned it down?

He's been there, done that & it doesn't gain him anything but comparisons to GYP. He doesn't come across as a stupid actor so why put himself in that position?

I'm still hopeful that the writer will really surprise everyone and take this drama to a new place other than the cliched formula that these dramas have.

I mean wouldn't it create more of a buzz and get people talking if she breaks the rules and doesn't follow every other writer down the same path?

Any and all responses are appreciated.

OTHERWISE IT'S A WASTE OF AN INTERESTING CAST!!

As others have stated been here, seen that, what are you going to do to keep me interested and coming back if you're not going to take some risks with the storyline......

#1. High school ages in Korea are pretty much the same as the US and most other countries. Sometimes people get a bit confused because some Asian countries count the age a bit different - basically they add 9 months. That practice is gradually going away, but it will be around for quite a while. "Officially" (ie, birth certificate) they might be 18, but may refer to themselves as being 19.

Some places do it differently - in that you are one year old when born, not zero. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Asian_age_reckoning

In chinese, the age that you say you are can only be roughly translated as unfulfilled age. Because, it is one year ahead of your birthday. Since, they count the 9 months you are in the womb, and your first birthday is celebrated on the one hundredth day, because you have fulfilled the remaining months that makes it one year. The birthday is literally translated as full moon, or fulfilled months. I believe I heard that Koreans have something similar called 100th day.

It all boils down to how they are brought up. Chan Young is the most normal thanks to his daddy who cooks meals with him =D that was sweet! Look at Won and Tan. How can Won not hate Tan when their father acts like that?? And as for Bo Na, I think she was just spoilt. But I like her spunkiness. Rachel is just like her mum...and Youngdo is violent like his father. There is still a chance for them to grow up their own way, if they choose to do so!

after watching the fast paced masters sun this is actually a bit dreary. the plots are different but the feeling that should be evoked must be so what similar. love Tan love Young im lukewarm to CES. i feel as if there is too much emphasis on personal characters and plots are not moving in sync like a well oiled engine. i hop Tan makes a plan to overcome his demons. i don't want to feel pity for him any more. CES, well like everyone else commenting, she shld decide, hot or cold... not lukewarm :-P

I just watched about a 3 minutes segment being filmed. Based on the dialogue I'm guessing it will be in episodes 8 or 9. Since no spoiler are allowed on this site I will not divulge. As much as I wish this was a better drama in terms of that extra little spark that was in "I Hear Your Voice" it's still a fun show to watch. At least there are a lot of pretty faces to look at.

I guess I am going to continue to watch this drama, but it is really making me dislike Korean culture. Is this kind of bullying real? Commonplace? There's so few characters I actually like in this drama. I did like Tan until this episode, and I still sort of do, but he could stand up for those less fortunate. The snobbishness of the school personnel was also disgusting.

I suppose that American dramas present just as horrible a picture of the U.S. as this drama presents of Korea. I never watched Beverly Hills 90210 or other shows like that because I had no interest. I've watched four Korean dramas now that have been set in schools (Boys Over Flowers, School 2013, Monstar and Heirs) and this one by far annoys me the most. Maybe it's time to stop watching high school dramas. I much prefer Protect the Boss or Sungkyunkwan Scandal or Rooftop Prince.

Just like in the US and any other country, there is a lot of "artistic license" taken with things like bullying. Of course it exists, but for the sake of drama it is often highly exaggerated. And the media has a big part in such tropes also - for a real life example of an over the top media frenzy being totally wrong, look up the McMartin Trial on Google and Wikipedia. There is also a movie on YouTube available.

I keep saying it over and over, but once again never ever think that TV dramas or movie reflect the actual situation in any country.

Korean dramas takes a lot of artistic licenses in exaggerating real life. Yes, bullying exists. Yes, arranged marriage still exists. Yes, parents do encourage their daughters' to marry for wealth. But, that happens in all cultures around the globe. If you are 45 and under, you are within the first generation, where you are forced to abide by arranged marriage.

I appreciate the restraint of the PD as the hyena and the recently awoken lion circle each other. I hope that EunSang emerges as a tigress and throws them all down

Let me see, Who knows Eun Sang is a charity case: BoNa, CY, KT, YD (he's not stupid), The bullied student and The teachers, and also anyone Who saw her walking the corridors in those old and cheap clothes. Rachel might not know officialy, but she saw ES fliying Economic Class and she is not that dumb not to put 2+2. So, why is she trying to hide Who she is? It's not like People are lining up to Be her friends (except MS, but it is not like she is dying for His attention).
All The main players know who/what she is. Girl's gotta get a grip and control how she presents herself to The world.
one more thing, People here in The comments keep using The "she is only 18" excuse. But 18 is not 12, especially when life hás knocked you on The head enough times to make you so bitter. At 18 you already are Who you are. I'm 24 and I know many People Who are/were 18 not long ago and even though we mature everyday, our essence is there. At least that's my humble opinion. But maybe in my country we mature early because at 18 we're usually going to our second year of college.

Spot on! ?
Also, I don't think all Young Do needs/deserves is a hug. He's not entitled to expect People to feel sorry for him when all He does is hurt other People. I'm really waiting to ser how and if they are gonna redeem him. They better don't make it a magic trick, he's got to make up big time for all The bad he's done. And right now I'm wondering if ES has what it takes to help him in His journey to The light.
Let's see where The writer is going to take us.

What makes it even more puzzling is that Eun Sang showed some strength of character in the first episode, but now that she's going to this school she's turned into a complete doormat.

I really dislike when they sell a character in the pilot (or episode 1 in this case) in a way and later on they change the character so they are not what we expected them to be.
And I'm not talking about being pleasantly surprised by the character, I'm talking about poor, incoherent writing. And I think that, unfortunately, that's been the case with ES.
Let's take YD for instance. He is been written coherently, imo, because he's "nice" to those he likes and a monster with the others ever since the beggining. But even when he is nice he has always this double edge to his words.

@Notably

@KT-Tutor girlfriend scenes... I would really like that. I realize that I like the fact that
this drama has a huge star cast...it helps for many different interactions between the
characters and not just couple-scenes. And though each one of the actors have big fan bases
I am not expecting the writer to flesh out all of the characters..I only hope that
they are used well to further the plot.

@KT's past with others.. Yea I don't understand why he broke up with Bo Na?.. Not that I think
one has to stick with partners they go out with in high school but we see KT in that wine cellar
looking through old stuff and smiles when he sees a book n remembers it was given by Lee Bo Na..

@cafe scene..KT's mission for the day was save CES from the hawk eyes of YD...lol..

-----

BTW, I agree with a set of comments that the way CES reacted to the beating up of the boy by YD was
pretty realistic... Sure CES is not
one to see someone in misery..and that's why in the lunch scene we see that CES was trying to speak up
for the guy but KT pulled her away..but later on YD was violent and scary, it would have been highly
idiotic if she jumped in there.

Also anyone else here want there to be a leap in the drama?.. I hope not all of the 14 remaining episodes
are focused on high school, it would be nice to see their lives after they graduate.

A leap would be interesting..seeing how they end up after school, but it would be tricky to do. We only have 14 episodes left! I think maybe the last two or three can be set post-graduation...I have a hunch that our CES will be winning that scholarship to study abroad and will *probably* be going to the US for university. Wouldn't it be funny if she an KT end up in the same school (he would of course, follow her there in a grand gesture, once he and Hyung band together to oust their Dad, winning his respect and his approval to go be with whoever they choose...and..I'm getting ahead of myself again. :) )

@Cafe scene...and the bullying scenes in general..Can someone explain to me the fixation these bullies have with making sure their victims eat well? I'm more familiar with the 'deprive-victims-of-their-food' scenarios...

I DARE SAY THIS DRAMA of creative Kim Eun sook is MUCH MORE ENGAGING than the other drama of hers!!!!
why?!

Because this dramas has me thinking so much about the characters, the relationships, mystery behind YD & KT, & & & the ENDING OF THIS DRAMA!!
Do you know why???
Some say that the end is crystal clear. If so,you are not observant!!
these are my questions!!

1-what will happen 2 KT & YD 's relationships in the END?!

2-There is some bad blood between KT & YD,so WILL they make up in the END?!

3-If KES has the intention of making KT & YD get on good terms with each other,HOW HOW is this gonna happen???

4-What will happen 2 KT & Won relationship???

5-will Won ever help put KT if he faces problems badly??

6-It is said that "Rachel's mom" will come into conflict with KT,WHAT WILL SHE DO???? and who is gonna back KT UP???
Is YD, who has decent human being deep in his evil smirk facade, help KT out and make THE VIEWERS wide eyed?????

7-Will KT & CES get obliged 2 escape???

8-will Bo na,who hates KT,once help him out??

9-AND AND will YD once REVEAL about KT'S illegitimacy??
or WILL YD surprisingly do sth so that KT'S illegitimacy does NOT get spread?????

10-ON THE WHOLE,I AM SO MUCH EXCITED ABOUT THIS DRAMA!! STOP SAYING IT IS boring!!! :sss

I DO ADMIRE KES!!!! DON'T U AGREE WITH ME???

I Like « The Heirs » So Far Bcoz The Story Is Just Good And I Don’t Mind The Pace Too. I Mean People Want Many Things Too Fast ( A Fight, Secrets Revealed, Love Triangle) In Just 6 Episodes !!!!!! Let’s See :
1 – I Like KT A Lot Bcoz He’s Just Trying To Settle Down In Korea Without Losing Too Much. I Don’t Know Why Others Are Not Interested In Him. Unlike YD Who Is Obviously Is For Many.
2 – I Get That YD Appealed Many People Bcoz He’s A Bad Boy With His Actions And Look But For Me He’s Easy To Read : An Old Fashion Bully With Past Issues Which Are The Cause Of His Actions And Maybe A Soft Core Inside Unlike KT Who Changed From A Bully To A Thinking Teen Bcoz Of An Unknown Reason Yet To Us Viewers Of Course. To Me KT Is Like The Beast In « Beauty And The Beast » Tale, He Is Trying Not Reveal His Beastly Self In Order Not To Hurt The Beauty But I Hopê That KT Will Reveal That Side Of His Personality Soon Bcoz Handling YD And His Brother Requires A More Bad Tan Especially YD Who Deserves A Beating ASAP.
3 – KT’s Dad Is Just A Manipulator And I Like It ! But Why Is He Holding To KT ? I Mean He Could Throw Him Away With His Mother Years Ago Without No One Knows And There Is Won Who Is The Rightful Heir, Isn’t He ? I Don’t Know. The Reason Is Yet To Be Revealed.
4 – As Far As For Won, We Will See !
I Hope That KT Wil Everyone’s Asses Bcoz He Rocks !
Thanks For The Recap.

You are apparently not a regular here on this site, or you would know that most of us here prefer to use real English words, not like "Bcoz", not every word capitalized, and real sentences with stuff like commas and periods. I might also suggest that real grammar is welcome here.

I'm so disappointed by this drama. I got to watch meaningless first 3 episodes set in US and witnessed how this drama perceived and stereotyped Americans.

Now I have to watch Boys Over Flower redux! I can't see how this show can be resurrected.

The popular cast and the star writer is the only thing holding this drama from falling apart.

I'm dropping this drama now.

Heirs vs Secrets:

Actually this could be about almost any two dramas where two different approaches are taken, but those are the two "hot" dramas airing right now.

1. Heirs has taken the route of a whole bunch of characters, which makes for a lot of different situations, but even with 20 episodes there are so many different characters it can be difficult to really show any character depth for any of them. This seems to be a common approach for RomComs such as YTBLSS, but especially those set in high school.

2. Secret has taken the opposite approach - only a very few main players, but showing a lot more depth and background for each one. Other dramas such Queen of Ambition have taken this same approach. This setup seems to be most common in "serious" (ie, non RomCom) dramas.

I don't know that one is any better than the other, but the problem I have with #1 is that you can end up with a lot of superficial characters - you know, the ones where you ask "why is that character even in this drama?".

totally agree with kdaddict about the English language, they are actors not language Gods. i like to travel and personally find variations of English to be fascinating and normal. so lets give lmh the break he deserves- my husband didn't learn English until high school. there's an accent for u,but anyway what i am finding hard to handle is "young do's" many shades of skin- pale white face, pink ears, and red hands (when he has the back of his hand near his face i find that more distracting than any English spoken thus far)!
