Hmm ... I'm a little confused to choose. Because I enjoy kdrama that aired in this year 2013, especially with my favorite actors and actresses in there. In each category before I choose, sometimes I think to be objective and not vote because I like the actor or actress alone. Clearly everyone has 'different taste'. So let's respect each other. For myself, my favorite kdrama 2013 is : Master Sun, Reply 1994 and I Hear Your Voice. ^ ^

Heartless City. Is my fav and only one this year.

Doc Adel. Everything is vivid in my mind.

How come it didn't come in the best kiss list because it was!

And Marry Him If You Dare is the biggest disappointment ever.

LMAO, this is great. Especially the choices for "Who had the least tear-inducing first-world problems?" Crazy how another drama year has just flown by.

Ok one thing though ^^;;; I'm a little disappointed that Empire of Gold's Choi Seo-yoon was not included in the Overlord category. She was just too bad-ass as the chabeol princess. No one got shit down like Choi Seo-yoon and she protected SG group with her life. She was definitely one of the strongest Korean drama females leads that I've ever come across. She definitely gets my vote for Best Overlord.

Also, Mi-rae's Choice definitely belongs in the most disappointing drama category. Both Sword & Flower and Mi-rae's Choice take my votes. So much wasted potential.

I'm sorry to say 2013 has just one Kdrama for me, Master's Sun, to which, I love to think the title is Joo Goon's Sun. The second one that I finished is Mirae's Choice, which after half way through, I thought the title should be Future Choice for four leads, but then by the end of it, it comes back to Mirae's Choice again, only [spolier!!! Don't read it!]she keeps her choice to herself haha.

I dropped Heirs already because Tan/YD is my fav OTP but ES keeps coming between them, ship sunk. That's my 2013, and so far only this comment on DB this year ^^

So it's that time of year again! I can usually depend on the Dramabeans annual poll to mark that time in December when 망년회 season begins and the liver starts to do into alcohol detox overdrive. ;-)

I read some earlier comments saying that it was a meh year for Korean dramas but looking back upon some of the drought filled years of yore, I actually think 2013 was quite a good year, especially for SBS and TVN. I’m definitely going to watch the SBS awards this year, if only to see if my telly will spontaneously combust due to the hotness of So (Ganji) Jisub and Lee Minho in the same frame.

For me Master's Sun is like the perfect child who got into SNU. Generally liked and admired by all, it gave me much happiness and little angst (as I never ever thought JJW would die) during the time it was airing. But maybe because everything was all lovely and neat it never brought about any visceral reactions. It was a really pleasant viewing experience, more cerebral than emotional, and I can look back upon it fondly. Good writing, acting, directing, editing and music. *clap, clap, clap*

On the other hand, I seem to have an irrational fondness for Heirs that’s become stronger and stronger since episode 11. I also cringed in embarrassment at times during the California scenes but there was something that kept me glued to the screen and when the good episodes came I found myself cheering on the drama and willing it to do better, which it did. It’s as if Heirs is the ‘little engine that could’ which I admit is ironic given its huge budget. I find myself getting really pissed off when things don’t work in the drama but then hugely elated when things fulfill my expectations. To be honest, watching Heirs has become a terribly stressful yet strangely addictive experience and it’s kind of made me understand why monks in the Middle Ages were into self-flagellation and such.

The last time a drama had such an effect on me was Boys Before Flowers. Ah, the angst and the anger. DIE YUMI DIE! So I went and had a look at the 2009 polls and it’s strangely comforting to know that 43% of the voters thought that BBF was hugely overrated. Overrated it may have been, but it definitely had sticking power. And as a very long-time viewer of Korean dramas and a fairly long-time observer of the K-drama viewing community, I have a hunch that Heirs will also have that sticking power. And bring more victims to the altar of beautiful men and boys…

**scratches head** I'm not sure that I understand why Joo Won is not getting more love for his performance in "Good Doctor" It wasn't the best drama of the year for me, but damn did he give a fantastic performance. That role was difficult, and it could have gone very, very wrong...I'm just so impressed by him as a person and an actor...I agree with last years best actor vote for Gaksital too--that's one of my favorites ever, even if it was too long.

And no, I'm not a Joo Won fangirl...actually, I would probably call myself either a 1. So Ji Sub or 2. Jang Hyuk fangirl. I love all their stuff, even if everyone else thinks some of the dramas are crappy. Hmmm...sorry for rambling.

And I want to join the "Heartless City" bandwagon...it was fantastic. I think I'm the only one who didn't like IHYV--I couldn't stand the main female character O.o

This year's drama, I'm not feeling it, UGHH!
All drama I Start dissapointed me or I'm not feeling them despite being the majority of drama viewers said they are awsome for example: I hear your voice, School 2013, ..

The only drama I loved and addicted to is Heartless City, Master Sun (just for the OTP, the rest is uninterested completely), and Secret!

The rest forgettable

omg. its that time of the year already and I have only finished three dramas this year! as i scanned thru the choices, I know that all those shows are worth watching, i just didnt have the time and i have this watching bloc that has been bugging me since the year started (maybe due to overwatching last year.. but i dont think their is such a thing as overwatching haha! lol)

anyway... I agree to everyone's choice of best drama... hands down... its Master's Sun! Good job to the sisters... they redeemed themselves!

I think if Gu Fam did better in their last two eps, it would have been more memorable... but owell, this is kdramaland, its a make it or break it. the hell with the finale, I still love the drama ;)

And lol at... LOVE IS BLIND. definitely, the best way to describe THAT WINTER... such a beautiful drama. all the cast are beautiful, the scenes are beautifully shot... ALL i can say is that this drama is definitely BEAUTIFUL ;))

Calm down?you seem to hold a grudge against "heirs" and their fans. Did they do something to you? Try to put yourself in their shoes before you criticise them.I haven't even seen any episode of Heirs so I can't say anything about this drama. But still I hate to see people fighting over a drama. Why don't you all people appreciate the efforts of all the actors/actress and the whole production crews? Even the drama is bad or good, it takes a lot of hard work, so at least try to encourage them!

"MOST DISAPPOINTING DRAMA"

We can only pick one? So many disappointments this year. More bad than good dramas.

Yay! Master's Sun is winning most of them! Probably one of the very few kdramas I enjoyed from beginning to end this year apart from Heartless City, Sword & Flower, Secret, and Flower Boy Next Door.

Does anybody else think that 2013 was a very lackluster year for dramas? Or is it just me? Probably the worst in years. Hopefully next year will be better.

Okay, I just started on Secret and I'm really, really curious about one thing, so to those who have completed it... how the hell did you guys managed to without getting distracted by the female lead's face? I thought LJS' nose was distracting enough but this takes the cake.

I have nothing against plastic surgery TBH but it's just so unnatural and SEVERELY distracting that I just can't seem to focus on the story whenever she's on screen. I mean, look at her chin or whatever that's left of it!

@Celery, please see post No: 200 :) BTW HJE's drama "Listen to My Heart" is being aired on Channel U on weekdays. I've been following it more or less and can safely say that HJE's acting has improved a lot since that show.

Required fields are marked *

I keep hearing about this "extensive plastic surgery" for her, but I did a lot of searching on the internet a while back, and could find no evidence for it except from the anti-fans. So I wonder how true it actually is - if at all?

0

Required fields are marked *

Hi Celery, I've never seen any of HJE's dramas before watching Secret. Her face didn't put me off at all. Her acting simply blew me away and she made me cry in many of her scenes and so I hope you will give her a chance and continue to watch Secret.

The only reason I started to watch the drama was because my favourite actor Bae Soo Bin is in it but by the end of Secret I now consider myself a fan of Hwang Jung Eum as well. I am keeping my fingers crossed that she'll be up for the Daesang - yes, she was simply that great.

I actually find her acting pretty decent (I'm at the first ep after all, so can't really judge much) which is extremely sad because I just can't seem to look elsewhere.

Is Bae Soo Bin the prosecutor? :D

IMHO Secret's first episode is the weakest of the series.

Yep, BSB is the prosecutor - when we BSB fans first heard he'd be the second lead and a villain to boot, we sighed and wondered why he took the role. Now that we have watched Secret, we understand why he postponed his honeymoon in order to play the role of Do Hoon :)

Required fields are marked *

I agree about Secret's first episode. It's probably the biggest flaw in the drama for me. It got so much better though. It was definitely one of those dramas that got better as it went on. I really loved all the rest of the episodes, none of it felt like filler to me. And it was paced really well.

One of the things Secret taught me about drama-watching - never judge a show by its early episodes.

One of HJE's fans on Soompi translated an article: -

" What Are "The Best 1 Minute" Scenes in 2013 Korean Dramas?

2013 has finally come to an end. Tillionpanel, one of leading customer research foundation in S.Korea, conduct an online survey about which are the best 1 minute scene from all 2013 dramas that make a great impact, left strong impressions, and unforgettable for viewers. Total of 13.451 netizens had participated. The results are as following ...."

A scene featuring HJE's heartbreaking acting in Secret came in 4th. This, I hope, is a good sign that on 31 December, HJE will be rewarded with one of the top acting awards :) As hopefully, will BSB and Ji Sung ...

I almost dropped Secret after the first episode, but since both had just been subbed, I went ahead and watched ep2, and was hooked from there.

To be honest, i was one of the many people who could not watch Secret (at first) due to the very distracting plastic surgery done on her chin (some people may disagree, but to each their own).
But i gave secret another chance since everyone was raving about it. Generally I thought it was a fast watch even if the characters were so messed up.
That said, I had alot of respect for HJE because she was able to portray her character's emotions to a tee -- i cried for her and felt for her too.
So i could just imagine the emotions she could portray if she HADN'T gotten surgery. Even better, methinks.

@ilikemango:

Precisely. That's what I had on my mind the entire time while watching the first episode because such a shame, her aacting would have been better without all that surgery.

I don't usually nitpick that much about looks but in Secret it is really super distracting. And I am not even watching it in 720p!
