Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

This has been the longest week ever. With our Year in Review series in full swing, it’s meant a lot of looking back and reminiscing on the past year of shows, so it’s almost a jolt to come back to the present and talk about what I saw this week. Which, thanks to said reviews, was a lot less than I meant to watch, which leaves me with a tall stack of episodes to catch up on. I know what I’m doing this weekend! –javabeans

Entourage: A curious thing started happening with last week’s episodes of Entourage, where I started feeling a grudging fondness for it, like you feel about a frenemy on a good day, or maybe Stockholm syndrome. When Eun-gab got kicked out of his agency, the show took on an underdog quality that was appealing, except then the movie star was so wishy-washy that distaste for him dominated my viewing experience for a while. I was deeply relieved when Turtle told him how difficult he was, and that he seemed to think about that seriously, and now that the team is finally together on the same page, maybe we’ll go places? We’ve only got two weeks left! Throw us a bone, will ya?

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju: This show made me cry this week, then laugh, then cry again. I loved all the confrontations coming to a head and erupting into a big messy pool of emotion, because even if they result in hurting hearts for our characters, it signals a new phase on the horizon. I haven’t felt this invested in a character’s coming-of-age growth in ages, and want so much for her to heal and reemerge stronger than ever. And there’s a special kind of poignancy to make our heroine’s love interest also be the best friend she could ever have, as well as her biggest cheerleader.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju: Awww, Bok-ju had a rough week. The show was less cheery than usual, but still emotionally gratifying and stirring as always, and I was so touched at all of Nam Joo-hyuk’s adorable attempts to cheer our girl up, running the gamut from childish and silly to sincere and thoughtful. He’s really becoming the sweetest, most dependable rock in her life, which is funny because he always calls her the sturdy one. Oh, and I just loved the hilarious scene when he brought her home drunk and faced the wrath of Dad, hee.

Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim: The hospital was practically normal this week, which isn’t my favorite trend, but Yoo Yeon-seok’s storyline made up for it. I was scared that he was really on the brink of going darkside on us! It was a great arc full of lots of character growth, and he still managed to fit in some swoony romance amidst the angst, which is all part of why we love him. That and the way he becomes adorably stupid when drunk.

Laica

The Lonely Shining Goblin: Even though this show consistently makes me laugh out loud in a way that is becoming pretty uncommon for this jaded viewer, it’s the melancholy that really makes me love it. What’s especially moving to me is how a moment can be hilarious and somehow gut-wrenchingly tragic at the same time, because that’s what real life is like. The loneliness that cloaks both Shin and Eun-tak is so deep, and built up over so many years, that it’s both sad and beautiful to see them peeling away the layers of solitude from each other. The fact that their loneliness is an unspoken motivation for them continuing to be drawn to each other, cloaked by all the mythology about the goblin’s bride, and destiny, and false claims to materialism, just gets me right in the gut. I love the way his face lights up with joy when he looks at her smiling and running towards him. Flowers blooming in autumn, indeed.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-ju: Ah, this week was tough to watch, in the best way. Lots of truths spoken, not all of which needed to be said. Poor Bok-ju; her lie is just not going to let her off the hook in any way, is it? She cries, I cry, so I was a mess this week. And as much as I love you Joon-hyung, you really put your foot in it, dude. And you were doing so well! I do think that as hard as it is to watch Bok-ju go through such a rough time, she’s going to be a more mature, self-aware person once she emerges on the other side. I hope that Joon-hyung can earn her good graces back soon, so that he can be there beside her to offer her the support she needs to get back on her feet. Also, come on, Bok-ju, talk to your friends! They want to help. Didn’t we already have this conversation about not lying to your sisters in swag?

The Lonely, Shining Goblin: I’m in love with this show, despite its meandering pace, because watching more screentime with Gong Yoo/Lee Dong-wook is time well spent in my book. OK, so here’s my theory: Lee Dong-wook is the grim reaper reincarnation of the boy-king that sentenced Gong Yoo to death, and Yoo Inna is the reincarnation of Kim So-hyun’s character, the young queen. Since you can only become a grim reaper if you committed a great sin in your former life, it’s plausible that killing your most loyal subjects and your wife would qualify you for grim reaper duty. Because the queen was an “innocent,” she became a human in her next life. However, this is Dramaland, and reincarnated souls (and transplanted hearts) often subconsciously recognize their true love. Thus, Lee Dong-wook shed a tear when meeting Yoo Inna for the first time in this life.

Night Light: Whaaa? Did this drama just say “screw morals; revenge is more important”? I’m both puzzled and intrigued. Usually in standard drama formula, the protagonists will hit a brick wall in their pursuit of vengeance, and end up walking the moral high ground due to their “innate goodness.” Nope, not here. Se-jin’s firing and re-hiring showed her learning a lesson from Yi-kyung: using people to get what you want is okay. But it’s a lesson that my inner conscience screams against, which makes it that much more interesting. I want to see what happens, whether Yi-kyung will stay resolute until the end and if that will eventually lead to her downfall like Gun-woo predicted.

I love Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo so much. Finally found a youth drama I really really love. I had such high hopes for who Are You - School 2015 but we all know how that turned out.

Goblin is amazing. It helps that this drama had such solid cast. Though I wasn't keen on tonight's ending.

3 Meals in A Day Fishing Village. It's so weird. It's a show basically summed by its title. You'd think it's boring, but it's incredibly cute and fascinating. Eric's cooking skills is waaaaay beyond my expectations. (And Na PD's when he casted him, it seems heh) My mother has always liked Eric, but after watching this show, she's head over heels in love.

This show.. confirms what a brilliant director, story teller, and a creative person Na PD is..

From creating some of the most successful variety (1N2D, 3 meals, travel series + reply series) to giving each person a character..

Eric literally does nothing... and can be easily "Nothing. Boring" in someone else's hand.. BUT not here.. no.. he is the most charming thing. .. his buffering

SeoJin- the way his story is told.. you'd think he is arrogant.. but then in between those boat rides, garlic and potato peeling.. there is such an interesting character .. (the playful playboy from the dramas) ..

Na PD finds charm in most mundane of the things..I am amazed by the man.. he shud start his own production company

The chemistry among the casts (including the fatty cats) are cute. I had no expectation with Eric in variety show being honest. He's handsome to the max and naturally a hottie but even when I saw some of Shinhwa variety shows, he just stayed there without saying a word and just answered questions if needed lol. But from watching Three Meals, I understand now why Shinhwa can be this long. He's quiet but basically controlling everyone, so dependable and even Mr. Grumpy became so sweet in this episode. The power of Eric lol. The bufferic time is the only one to make Mr. Grumpy back to his grumpy period hahaha.

I never thought I would like someone pabo like Yoon Kyung Sang. But his sincerity to help and his cuteness is so facinating to watch. And he really takes care his fatty cats well that both cuties look so hyper whenever they meet him.

I wonder which shinhwa variety show you watched that you got the impression that all he did was answering questions when needed?

In most of shinhwa's variety appearance when they're sort of the guest, yes Eric is relatively more quiet than the other members. But most shinhwa members are probably like that. But when they were alone - or dominating the casts - he's not like that. Like in Shinhwa Broadcast.

Actually Eric always pretty good in variety shows. But mostly the PDs used him for love line only. And I found him less confidence when it comes to variety shows. The guy is naturally funny and his charming personality is real. I'm glad Na PD casted him so we might be able to see how incredible Eric as a person. I became fan of him after watching Running Man where he gave his team won over Running Man team years ago though I knew him from dramas before.

Ooh, tineybeanie is watching Night Light~

I'm 98% in the camp of not wanting Gunwoo to have the satisfaction about being right about Yikyung. Her ending up a cliche damsel needing saving through his pure love renders the point of the show moot.

Obviously, her path can only lead to crashing and burning to hollowness 'cause that's how most vengeance stories end but idk, I find it so refreshing she (and at a bit slower pace, Sejin) is heading straight towards the point of no return. With steady determination and seemingly without remorse. Can't remember the last time kdramaland allowed that kind of complexity to its female leads, let alone two leading ladies.

The point of this kind of dramas is always that Hero or Heroine comes off as master planners who get through each and every tricky situation. When the writer is on your side you can get away by doing any kind of reckless and nonsensical things.

Both Women are on the path of destroying themselves by trying to destroy others. So cliche damsel in distress is already moot. We can't expect Yi-Kyung to play victim card in future.

I enjoy seeing strong female lead going after her revenge, the dark road with her righthand woman in Sejin because its fresh new thing i kdrama but i wont her to her fail, crash burn because you cant award lack of morals, throwing away people, destroying others.

I want to see Yi-Kyung regret what she has done to her life because she gets back to her old self, you cant reward her monster, villain like ways just because she is the female lead is playing the revenge role usually reserved for the male hero.

Im on Gun woo side because he is the only good, moral one of the lead roles when even Sejin is getting corrupted by Yi-Kyung. I hope he doesnt take Yi-Kyung back easily after all she has done to him.

Add Choi Yoo Jin as a cameo and we'll have 3 complex female characters!
Never been in my drama experience we see this kind of morally ambiguous women pursuing their vengeances and they're not damsel in distress! It's such a rare thing, kind of unicorns in dramaland. Usually it's the male lead and the female lead will give him voice of reason, but here the male and female leads battle against each other and I'm not sure Night Light will have a happy ending for the characters.

Goblin: I'm watching and completely loving this show but to be honest, the age thing becoming an issue surprises me.

I constantly feel like anyone worried about legal characters portrayed by legal actors sending some kind of disturbing message to teenagers out there is better off worrying about the deluded teenagers who would watch a fantasy drama and think it could be applied to real life.

And after Episode 6, I feel like if you really can't handle the relationship between Kim Shin and Euntak, it might be better to drop it now since I don't think it's going to be changing any time soon

The age gap hasn't been an issue for me, but people have a right to their opinion. They shouldn't be silenced just because they're the minority (if they are) or because other people think differently. I can like the show even if others don't. Their annoyance doesn't take away from my own enjoyment, and my enjoyment is not worth suppressing their right to express their views.

Thank you so much lindl for writing this down.

I don't know why people think that voicing their disappointment over a show is so bad that they are immediately given a shut up call with " stop watching it if you don't like it". Everyone has a right to voice their opinion and when a show you had high expectation of ends up being disappointing, you do tend to discuss it with people or just put it out there because you CAN talk about it.

Saying that is actually enforcing your opinion on someone else and being like" I can be all praises but I won't listen to your critique at all".

It isn't right. It's just like telling the minority they have no right to have their own opinion or even to discuss it with other people.

This isn't Goblin related at all though. I have been seeing this on DB since long where people pointing out a flaw in a favourite show are seen as negative and told to stop watching.

0

Required fields are marked *

For me at least it's not a matter of not liking people voicing their opinions, it's a matter of seeing the same people say the same thing about it over and over again (I swear I've seen the comment "I like this drama, but can't get over the age gap" about thirty times). In the first episodes, yes people will complain, but now we are five and six episodes in and people are still complaining about it like it's something new.

The same goes for other things that are repeated in EVERY SINGLE comment section about Goblin like the "Goblin/Reaper relationship is the best part of the show!" The drama has so much more going on that could be discussed than just that. Why can't we talk about the symbolism in the drama, 'cause that shit gets deep.

It just seems like everyone is a broken record with the show. Yes we know the age difference is weird. Yes we know that the Goblin/Reaper scenes are funny. Now let's actually discuss the show, shall we?

0

People don't hang out on Dramabeans equally frequently. Not everyone knows what kind of comments are being said all the time, or over and over. People have the right to say what they want to say about a show – it's dismissive to call their comments whining or repetitive. No one's keeping us from discussing a show the way we want to. Others should be able to say their piece as well.

0

I don't mind people sharing their opinion i mind the repetitive, people been repeating the same thing for 4 episodes.

0

Required fields are marked *

But people being dismissive about such opinions are clearly fueling the earnest need for people in minority to be heard. Especially that DB is a platform to voice their opinion regarding dramas they watch, and actually have a chance at least to come upon a likely opinion that may change their minds. Also, I have constantly read comments up 'til now and these comments on their age gap as concern merely because of its legality has actually decreased. It became clear that the problem these people have is not really just the age gap anymore but the level of maturity between the characters. That the characters are not on equal footing, because this is life and death to one whilst comfort, riches(?), and companionship to another? And isn't that worth adressing or even worth a discussion?

Well I don't condone casting literal minor to romance grown ups but let's not forget the major different here.

Their casting was prob because producer/director/writer think they don't have other option or they're too lazy/afraid to experiment with other actress. KYJ and KSH both are amazing teen actress so they are like 'safe choices'.

In Moonlight, they were supposed to be the same age.

In Goblin, the underage romance was intentional, encouraged and to a point it felt fetishized to me.

"The size of a mass is not proportional to its volume
That little girl as small as a violet
That little girl that flutters like a flower petal"

If a random thirty something guy romancing a high school girl with this poem, we will call police but since that thirty something guy was Gong Yoo, we swoon.

Seeing it from their POV won't change what makes me icky about their relationship. Every twisted relationships would have a justification in their own way.

I get what the writer is doing here. She wanted a contrasted relationship between an ancient creature and an innocent/naive human being but her definition of innocent and naive that is bugging me.

As if it's a requirement for the heroine to be underage and possessed childlike traits to emphasize the concept, oh don't forget to add the obligatory sob story so she can justify her bratty and spoiled actions too.

And what's with her jumping and running around like a kindergaten kid where the goblin is thinking about a pedo bait poem? /end rant

Don't mind me, I'm here for the KSxGR anyway.

They have been portrayed as characters with the same level of emotional maturity.

I think the age thing is one of the concept of the story. In Episode 5, Kim Shin said that they started way way back before she was even born. He waited and found her after 900 years of suffering only to be confused and hold on to live for her, to see her shining and bright smile. He said that Eun Tak is the one who can give him rest but she is also the reason he wanted to live longer. 900 years for him is meaningless for every moment with his 19-year old 'lover' is priceless.

i need to watch WLF .. youth shows done right are as rare as a goblin's bride.

Right now watching just 2 - goblin and lotbs

goblin-
strangely the writer makes me usually dislike her lead actor who i liked previously ... aka lmh (who i loved in city hunter) and sjk (who i lurved in innocent man)
This is the first time its the reverse. i never got what the big deal was about gong yoo. and now i am like going through his entire filmography. love him

Lotbs-
I am like the teeniest tinyiest minority that is not liking jjh here. her whole act feels jaded and repetitive. And i don't particularly care about the otp. What i do like is lmh in the scenes where he plays a complete doofus and that the writing just went goooood with the parallel universe like setup.

I am with you on JJH. Most times I feel am just looking at a ramp walk or fashion magazine, I cant find any emotions from her. Plus she playing a mermaid does not help matters.

And am utterly disappointed in the chemistry. I can sense the actors are just not comfortable with each other or its just the writing which does not give them enough reason to love each other - or its just me.

Required fields are marked *

I disagree with you on this part.

They have so much chemistry, especially bickering back and fourth and SC throwing herself at HJJ, literally clinging onto him. I find they're so compatible and if there's anything I live for in this drama, it would be the petty arguments and funny skinship. I nearly crack up every time SC runs and gloomps HJJ. It's simply hilarious and cute. And the hilarious funny arguments that happens in every episode now in the bedroom. It's hilarious to see SC drive HJJ speechless with everything she utters from her mouth.

But of course, there are more moments I live for. I also think they both do very well whenever they just stare at each other. Praises to Lee Min Ho for being so great at expressing through his eyes, because the moment he ran to her at the end of episode 8, you can tell just by the look in his eyes, he was feeling hurt by her.

Again, eye expression at the end of episode 10. Intense moment between HJJ and SC just merely by looking at each other.

Maybe you didn't feel it, but definitely felt the sizzling chemistry at the end of episode 10.

And the love story between HJJ and SC makes complete sense to me, because KDR and SH once loved hundreds of years ago. KDR's determination and love for SH persists and transcends through time and space. But I love the fact that HJJ didn't simply fall for SC because he remembered his past. Rather, she has continued to amaze him with the words she says and her sincerity towards him. Even if it doesn't make sense for SC to fall in love with HJJ, it makes total sense that HJJ fell for SC. For them both though, I like to reason they had an automatic connection due to their history. Somewhere, in their subconsciousness, they have always loved each other.

Referencing back to KDR's in episode 8,

"You came from a far away sea, and even though I could not remember you, my heart already loved you."

To me, their story was constructed beautifully. If there's one thing the writer did well, it's the undying love between the mermaid and KDR that lives on in SC and HJJ.

But there's definitely more I appreciate in this drama.

You know the funny thing is - I felt all these in initial episodes. I liked the melancholic tone and with both of them growing on each other in foriegn land.
I was struggling to find a reason to root for the mermaid even then but still I could see how they are meant to love each other in every lifetime.

But once they did the memory reset (which I still don't understand why - she did say it would be painful, but I never got it. Shock, yes maybe. Pain - I don't think her being mermaid would be painful for him ) , it was all hjinks again and the second time around I failed to see their connection.
The scene where LMH was talking about his father and crying to JJH - I liked it. I could see flashes of something to relate to. But these scenes are too few to work.

Maybe something during those episodes there was this disconnect with story which I believe am not alone in feeling if I go by the generic reaction all around.

And they both looking like they are posing for fashion magazine in every shot does not help matters to me. I can't see their characters. I can only see LMH and JJH - two Hallyu superstars trying to promote various high end brands. Not a mermaid and human falling in love.

The end-of-year reviews are very much appreciated Team Dramabeans! I am sure the rest of us can compensate with the drama-watching this week. So, in order of completion:
Imaginary Cat : I was in the mood for a short, good-feel drama with Yoo Seung Ho. I loved the OTP of the guy and his cat. Regarding the annoying girl, I agreed with the cat: 'make her go away'
Princess Wei Young : I've been raving about this Cdrama for weeks. It's not at Nirvana in Fire levels (but what show is?) yet the story is exciting and the characters are fleshed out. I'm 4 episodes away from the end, and no, I don't want it to end!
Legend of the Blue Sea: I was never impatient with the show, but in episode 9 and 10 all the little niggling puzzles came together to reveal a thoughtfully constructed story. The stakes are rising. Worlds are colliding. I'm so hooked.
Goblin: PPL done right (!). I could watch Reaper and Goblin figure out how to use smartphones for days. I'm still unsure about the romantic story but I'm willing to wait because of the tragic premise (yes, I want this romance to make me cry, but I'm still not feeling it). I'm mostly in it for the comedy and bromance for now. Off to watch episode 6.

For the smartphone scene, I knew they're using Samsung, but I did not notice how Lee Dongwook showed the back of the phone with the Samsung name. It was subtle and a natural move that I missed it.

Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu - We Married as a Job Episode 10 - 17.1%

Each week rise in ratings. Show is in Bullish run aka Rally. Last episode on 20 December.

Dear My Friends - Downloaded 1st 5 episodes. I rarely download tv media but shows like this one demands concentration and appropriate time. These 2 weeks are good to watch a family drama and so i'm gonna watch it now.

Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim - Entertaining and that's it. After 12 episodes i still think nothing much has happened in the show. Writer is inconsistent, so are characters.

Legend of the blue Sea - Another show where not much happens.

Goblin - Mr. Kim and Mr. Shin are good together. Comedy works. Show likes to waste audiences time by meaninglessly stretching out the scenes and editing is choppy. Good watch

Father I'll Take Care of You- Better family drama of the year. Serious issues dealt lightly. Romance is cliche and working well. Hope to see it do good in ratings. Fun to watch.

Night Light - bad subs - late subs - unnecessarily long conversations.

Thumpking Spike 2 - bad subs

I dropped highly praised Louis and Bok-Ju in their 1st episodes.

Princess Wei Young - 5 minutes in and dropped. I just can't tolerate Chinese.

This was my 5th chinese drama Attempt. I could only watch Snail upto ep 5 and then gave up thoroughly. I can hardly pronounce more than 5 words in chinese. And the actors voice because of language is putting me off.

I'm gonna try Love o2o in january and hope somehow build tolerance towards chinese

Glad that we married as a job is doing good because it is good.

Kazami and Yuri chan's scene in episode 9 felt so much like a kdrama. Though I haven't seen much of jdoramas so it might be a thing there too. But even if it was cheesy, it wasn't as cheesy as any kdrama would make out of that scene. I don't know if they are going to address their 17 year age difference in the coming 2 episodes because I don't think they have enough time for that but I do want them to be a couple by the end of the show.

You are talking about Kabe-Don moment? That's so japanese and can be found in any media but still that scene was far better done than expected from any kdrama.

That age gap put me off because the prime period of Yuri-san's life is gone. By the time Ryota hits 50s Yuri-san will already be in her 70s. So i think romantic relationship should be out of any alternative.

Noooooo Weightlifting Fairy, why must you hurt my heart so much this week, I wanted to watch you for the happy fluff ;_; Feels like I cried every time Bok Ju was sad in the last two episodes and now I really need more episodes to see how she recovers. Please recover and be happy again, a happy Bok Ju is much better than a sad Bok Ju!

Sounds like Goblin is getting entertaining (and it looks like it too - passed by a few scenes and found it really fun to watch!) - maybe I'll take a look after finals are over!

Goblin: Like it. Wish they were just doing one hour episodes because it does meander a bit.

Princess Weiyoung: Solid C-Drama but won't beat out my favs do to a somewhat repetitive storyline.

Weightlifting: Enjoyable and a shout out to the leads who I have seen in multiple other dramas. They made these characters their own. Good for them.

On Hold: Romantic Dr: Need a break from doctor dramas.

On Hold: Snail Falls in Love. The writer actually does the relationships well but his mystery/thriller aspects are lacking and become nonsensical and convoluted. Stalled but plan to finish up since I made it through so much. Probably doesn't help I watched two season of Bosch on Amazon this past week, and Michael Connelly is one of the best crime writers today.

I went to this rabbit hole called "Golden Pouch". My first Korean daily. Although I think it more feels like a weekend serie. I love the sad main hero who suddenly loses everything, memory included. I like the mandu family and I'm curious about the birth secrets. Also can't wait to see the selfish lady pay for her crimes...

...Though I also have to admit that Kim Ji Han's voice and Ahn Nae Sang's eyes are probably enough to keep me watching ;--)

I'm falling quite far behind with LotBS now... I still think I will pick it up again at some point, but currently I'm not in the mood for it for some reason...

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo made me laugh so much during ep 9, then made me cry bucket in ep 10. I didn't even plan to watch this drama initially, then I tried it out after its posters full of sunshine and good vibe, and now I wonder could it be that it has become my most favorite drama this year, even beating Reply 1988 and Age of Youth... It makes me feel all sort of feels in the best way, and I find myself being invested more and more. I'm usually skeptical about coming-of-age dramas because they have the risk of being kinda forced and awkward for my taste, and I'm not a big fan of friends-turn-lovers, but this drama brushes away my judgement so naturally. Kudos to the team - writer, director, actors, and everyone involved - for making this wonderful show.

I also watched Goblin ep 5. Goblin + Grim Reaper duo is the best! I liked it when Ji Eun-tak joined them, too. So much laughter to be had. And the melancholy feel is beautiful.

A happy Bok Ju is the one who will look at Joon Hyung in a different way.
Legend of the blue sea: I love this show, the mystry, the fantasy, oh! The way Joon Jae and Dam Ryun keeps dreaming of one another, and how D.R says everything from the past is repeating in the future(present). Iam curious though, does that mean Joon Jae and Chung also met each other when they were young? Or is the mermaid not reincarnated, rather the same one from the past?
And please don't criticise Gianna Jung's acting, she's marvellous, i don't see the problem in what she's doing so far.
BLAME THE PLOT.

ROMANTIC DOCTOR, TEACHER KIM: Heh... It's good in it's own way. Iam hooked until the end, but iam not sure if i'd linger for a second round.

Thanks to all the Beannies for always being there for us.

"A happy Bok Ju is the one who will look at Joon Hyung in a different way."

Gosh, this is beautiful . Because it's true that her lighter spirit will comprehend his feelings. And upon reflection, it also means that Bok Ju doesn't require romantic love first in order to become happy. Lovely.

LOTBS -

"Wait... It means that something good will happen soon."- SC, episode 1.

Writer's way of telling us, just you wait, something good is sure to come your way.

Episode 10 has convinced me that everything up until this point was quite necessary and the build up leading to this moment is what makes it 100x better! If we had been given it in episodes 1-4, it would have not been this interesting. Unforunately, many people are impatient and didn't wait. For me, waiting was the best decision because it's turned out to be as good as I had expected.

Plus, the love story between a deceving conman and the innocent mermaid is just perfection! I anticipate lots of redemption on HJJ's part and him trying hard to make her believe him, only to hear her internal voice calling him a liar. I will live for HJJ's reaction when he fails to make the girl who always believed anything and everything he says, believe him again.

So much I took forward to and anticipate to see in the last half of this drama.

Just finished Miss Korea earlier this week, and that practically cemented my love for the writer. Who knew that a story about beauty pageant and an almost bankrupt cosmetic company could be this compelling? But then, it was always about personal growth behind all those frivolous package. Totally love the ending. Nothing in a neat bow, but it's a hopeful and uplifting message for people living in desperate times. That doing your best will yield a result in the end, that you will find friends and allies even in the most unexpected place, and that together you can weather whatever life throws at you. Thumbs up. Love. Love. Love.

I'm glad KES has clear rule for Goblin because fantasy story without rules will crumble under the writer's whim. So far I like the story, though it hasn't reach the cractastic level yet. Now, if only they give more screentime to Yoo Inna, it would be perfect.

Catch up on more Potato Star this week. After spending so much time with Go Kyung-pyo being an immature 8-yo-like adult, I'm oddly nervous at the possibility of him become mentally adult again. Just don't be mean anymore, okay?!

So glad you enjoyed Miss Korea. I watched it live when it seemed like everyone and her uncle was going ga-ga over My Love From the Stars. It was so underrated but still I loved it so much. I haven't seen JI, but I also love Pasta so I think when I get to Jealousy I will like it, too. This writer does have something in her dialog (or maybe it's Lee Sun Gyun) that really resonates with me.

Personally, I think JI is this writer's best project. The humor and the way it told angsty stories without losing its comedic beats is just gold. As long as the humor suits you, I think you'll enjoy it.

Stay With Me ... Chinese Drama

So I started binge watching it yesterday, I liked the serious tone in the 1st ep but from ep 2 forward... It made a 180° and turned into COMEDY, I'm not so big on comedy. I'm @ep 6 also the 2nd male lead is Kimi Qiao #RIP.
The Soompi thread is a desert, I wish for someone to vent and discuss it with.

Spoiler
****************
I've 2nd male syndrome going in, also I'm not his fan. But starting from ep 2, he is marginalized with no actual weight in the story. Like 1st male and female lead are the center of a circle and other characters are outside it. Like they have no use whatsoever.
I'm angry with the 1st male lead although he appears to love her but how he deal with her business wise is despicable, he is outright asking for vengeance and they seem to have broken up for at least 5 yrs. So let's say he is not live, would he actively work to sabotage her at every turn and corner. Also I'm pretty sure that the event of the 1st ep and what basically established the plot was his doing.
On the heroine, from ep 2 I missed her seriousness from ep 1 also the change is rational. But I want her to get a grip on the situation and gain control.
She claims that she is not ok with having a romantic relationship with her best friend / 2nd male lead, but who wouldn't want to fall in love with her bff.

I believe that this the end of this rant, but I might come back for more.
Over and out.

Hello, fellow viewer here! The male lead (yi du) isn't responsible for all the sabotage business wise., especially those happenings in paris! it was done by his brother! i actually like the female lead's character more after she lost her memory, and i guess we can understand this will lead to the change in tone of the drama. but i think the love torture will start soon and we will be in for more tears!

I stayed off from weekend dramas for about a month and now I'm back at it.

Our Gabsoon (ep 23/24) - it's kinda frustrating to watch because one moment they're doing good then the next it goes back to square one. I wish there was more development in Shin Se Gye because I was hoping more from Lee Wan but his story is the least interesting for now.

Laurel Tree Tailor (ep 19/20) ; Main couple is boring. Everything else is just okay but I do love Cha In Pyo and Ramiran.

Romantic Dr Kim : For a drama with "Romantic" in it's title.. I was hoping for more romance? I love the drama but I am a sucker for romance too. Drunk Dong Joo is love.

WFKBJ : Cute. Reminds me of Sassy Go Go. Both seriously deserved more ratings.

Our geumbi : I adore geumbi but why doesn't anyone call out her for being rude sometimes? Some of her action is kinda rude in my view albeit that she comes with good intention..just it's like a kid acting like a teenager already is making me confuse. Do kids these days act like that? Geumbi's love rival is so mean.

Goblin : Only love it for the bromance. Fantasy drama is not my genre.

It makes me gleeful to see so many people watching Goblin and Weightlifting Fairy! They're currently the only two I'm watching right now, and I'm loving them the bottom of my heart, even though both of them swing me from laughing out loud to sobbing unconscious tears.

I'm loving the character growth we've had this week: Joonhyuk with finally saying the truth that's been pent up in his heart, and Gong Yoo with confronting his fate and true emotions. I've still groaned in frustration when characters backslided back into their comfort zone, but I'm looking forward to what happens next week!

Except that looking forward to what happens next week means I have to wait four days for WF and six for Goblin. Come quickly!!

I think the queen is reincarnated as the Grim Reaper. I don't know but there's some meaning to the tear that trickle down his face when he saw Sunny. When the Queen died, she also shed a tear, then it suddenly went back in. Watch it again. It was also hinted that a man can also be reincarnated as a woman. Hahaha, this show is really crazy making all the viewers crazyyyy.

Goblin is so good. Really liked today's episode. It's hard to pull off a scene that's funny on top and has you crying inside underneath. (Characters believe one thing but audience knows the painful truth.) Also liked all of the metaphysical conversations between our frenemy roommates. And Grim Reaper is killing me. I'd love to know Kim Woo Bin's reaction!

Legend of the Blue Sea: Things finally picked up in ep. 10 and I'm so happy that JJ has his memories back and realizes why Chung is so important to him. Been waiting for this moment for quite some time. Now I hope he will actively protect her and I definitely want to see more communication between JJ and DR.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo: This continues to be the heartwarming highlight of the week for me. BJ and JH's relationship continues to grow and I'm glad to see them having a conflict since that would usually draw two people closer once the issue gets resolved or is overcome. I hope BJ will get past her growing pains and realize that she is beautiful and shouldn't be ashamed of being a weightlifter. JH has already told you as much and I'm waiting for her to discover how awesome he is.

7 First Kisses: More cheesiness this week. It's just a mindless show to watch. Haha...

Hwarang: Saw the 15-min special and looking forward to tomorrow's premiere.

Love Through A Millennium II (aka Shuttle Love Millennium) C-drama: It's intriguing to see the connections between the time travellers to give more clues to their backstories and relationships. I'm glad to see Ziyi finally figuring out that Zhigang and Qilong have got to be two different people. I hope Wang Lin can see that this Mr. Wang is not her real grandpa soon.

I marathon-ed dramas again after a long time because year-end is just around the corner and finally could finish Mirror of the Witch, yay one more bean! I will remember it fondly as one of the most beautiful fantasy-sageuk. The ending though, having watched the leads struggle for 19 episodes, why can't they get their happy ending?? Although it gave a somehow bittersweet feeling watching how the others continue with their live after the storm, I think I can live with that.

I'm trying to finish W-Two Worlds this week so I can have an additional two beans along with Shopping King Louie. W-Two Worlds so far so good, or it's just Lee Jong-suk effect on me.

Airing dramas need to wait until the end of this week although I already miss beagle Joon-hyung and the perfect ahjussis from Goblin on my screen.
