Drama viewership ratings for the week of Mar. 25-31, 2019

As March comes to an end, we say goodbye to the last of the winter dramas and welcome the latest spring dramas. At the beginning of the week, Neighborhood Lawyer‘s second season finished with an all-time high of 9.3 percent. And speaking of second seasons, Woohoo Waikiki 2 premiered with the returning Lee Yi-kyung leading a fresh new cast. Next to premiere was corruption drama The Banker.

Later on in the week, we had finales for legal dramas Reach of Sincerity and Legal High. And interestingly enough, the highest ratings for both dramas were their first episodes at 4.7 percent and 3.3 percent respectively. Meanwhile, Doctor Prisoner and The Fiery Priest continued to top themselves. At this rate, I’m thinking these are the next shows to eventually reach that coveted 20 percent.

I think the same, and with 1/3 of the original cast...

I'm an English speaking senior citizen who adores the music as much as storylines and acting... wish I could find OST for the various scenes in Park SiHoo's dramas; for example, the music when Park and Moon are speaking French in a restaurant and pretending to be on the phone... any suggestions how I can find such melodies.

@1dollyg752 William G. Gambrell, I normally just go to YouTube and search for kdrama osts. You can add the name of the drama to limit your search.

Was the name of the drama you mentioned Cheongdam-dong Alice or was it another show?

Download the app Shazam. You can click it when you hear something you like, and it will tell you the song.

I do this a lot in dramas. Sometimes you have to stand right next to the TV. Sometimes you have to rewind and do a part a few times, but I can usually figure out the music.

@1dollyg752 William G. Gambrell,

If I cannot find a drama's music easily on YouTube, I search for information on OSTs on DramaWiki, which often has a separate page for a drama's OST.
https://wiki.d-addicts.com/Main_Page

The information on music is highly variable, as some shows don't release more than a handful of vocal tracks, while other productions, such as YOUR HONOR / DEAR JUDGE, release all the instrumental music. One thing to keep in mind: There's sometimes a delay before OSTs are released, so be sure to check back later.

Soompi also has forums dedicated to OSTs, so you may find some information there.

Happy hunting! ;-)

@1dollyg752 William G. Gambrell,

PS: I meant to mention that DramaWiki often (but not always) gives the titles of the tracks and the artists' names in hangul, which I copy and paste into the YouTube search bar. Voila! When I hear that I've gotten the right music, I'll copy & paste the hangul from YouTube into Google Translate to verify the title and artist, especially if it's a piece I really like. ;-)

I am so happy for The Fiery Priest! Well-desereved ratings. Show is crazy but it’s so entertaining and fun. Everyone is likable even the baddies. <3

I tried to watch Mother of Mine because it has Kim Hae Sook and Kim So Yeon, but I was already flipping tables at the end of the first episode so I have to drop it. There were just too many self-centered people... :/

The Banker, on the other hand, has a promising start :)

Promising start for my taste, that is. Those ratings aren't something to celebrate.

I was gonna start Mother of Mine for the same reasons. Thanks for the warning.

It's not that bad. I tune out when it's Yoo Sun's character and her in-laws (father-in-law is actually quite awesome), but otherwise everyone else is rather alright to watch. Kim So Yeon's character is sassy.

Hey... I'm loving "Mother of Mine." I felt annoying with episode 1 with all selfish characters like Mi-sun's mother in law and her husband. But it's super entertaining though. It's also light, and I hope it won't have a murder plot like "My One Ally." I drop MOA because of the murder plot and because it's too sad... :(

The drama has the same vibe with "Father is Strange."

Yo, @mary IT GODDESS, @sailorjumun,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

The viewership statistics table is too wide and obliterates a big slice of the right-hand column. The Recent Posts thumbnails overwrite the percentage column. Time to bash the CSS into shape and update that pesky template once and for all. I have a theory as to why it continues to crop up.

FYI, I'm trying to view it in FireFox on Win7. Maybe it looks okay in another browser?

@pakalanapikake It could be Browser or version dependent. I'm using Opera, and the table above and Recent Posts look ok.

@mary,
But I know that you successfully squashed that bug flat with a tweak to the CSS a long time ago, and then it came back. Is it maybe a version-control issue with the template for the Drama Viewership Ratings page?

Sorry, I don't remember exactly when you successfully fixed it. It was at least a year ago, maybe closer to two. And sorry to make more work for you. :-(

No I didn’t fix this one yet. Only a similar-looking bug caused by the embedded videos.

@mary,

Oh, wow. A different bug has similarly bad effects on the formatting. Sheesh. This sounds like Excedrin Headache #42,593,007. :-(

FYI, I noticed that the recaps for TWO COPS were also hosed up in the right column. So it is the videos that wreak havoc. Interesting.

Wait, what? O_O What's happening with Two Cops?

Oh I see it now! Thanks for checking!

@beantown,
I'm so glad I'm not the only one with hosed-up columns. But I'm using a laptop, not a handphone with limited screen size. (In a past life, I did a lot of statistical word processing and fiddling with tables, which is why I'm trying to troubleshoot it.)

Doctor Prisoner and Fiery Priest, my two current favorites, are hitting it out of the ballpark. Trying to comprehend Doctor Prisoner is like trying to tease knots out of a thin gold necklace, frustrating but ultimately rewarding. Fiery Priest has become Kim Nam Gil selling tickets to one heck of a circus ride. All I can say is "Phoenix!"

Sad that "Reach of Sincerity" didn't have as good ratings as "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim" despite coming from the same team, but I guess Yoo In Na and Lee Dong Wook don't have the same star power as Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young. I guess we'll see next week Park Min Young's drawing power when her new drama "Her Private Life" takes over "Reach of Sincerity"'s time slot.

Yay! "Doctor Prisoner"!!! I dropped the last two Namgoong Min's drama; but I him again in DP! An anti-hero character suits him better!!! Also, Kim Byung-chul and Choi Won-young made it more perfect! I can't wait the drama will hit 20 percent in anytime soon....

I am watching or have watched half of the dramas listed and I was wondering why Legal High had low rating when it is very entertaining and witty. Though I'm liking the fun and comedic awkwardness in Fiery Priest, Honey Lee made me stick to the show coz i've waited for her change of heart. The mind games and tricks in Doctor prisoner is crazy good that the rating is well deserved, or maybe because Nam Goong Min has this villainous handsome charisma that will hook and make anyone wish he punish those drama jerks?
