Lee Joon, Kang Hanna, Jang Hyuk entangled in a dangerous game of politics and love

Another evocative teaser has come out for KBS’s sageuk Red Heart and I am so ready to sink my teeth into the story and cinematography (and acting!) because everything just looks so good.

The story follows the journey of a fictional Joseon king – played by Lee Joon (Bulgasal: Immortal Souls) – who sits on the throne like a puppet while the powerful minister Jang Hyuk (Tell Me What You Saw) pulls the strings. When Lee schemes to cut himself loose and consolidate power for himself, he unwittingly puts himself at odds with his love Kang Hanna (My Roommate Is a Gumiho). However, even if they are now political opponents, Kang is determined to stay by Lee’s side and take ownership over her own destiny.

The newly released video teaser starts with Jang Hyuk leading the government ministers and Lee Joon explains in voiceover that they are all Jang’s people.

Ever the strategist, Jang Hyuk muses on the news that, “The King is traveling in disguise to meet a woman.” As Lee Joon rushes on horseback to where Kang Hanna is waiting, he worries about why Kang is being targeted. Thankfully, he arrives in time to protect her. But Jang isn’t deterred and simply asks, “Which road has Your Majesty decided on? Will you choose power or will you choose love?”

Curiously, Jang Hyuk has an emotional encounter of his own with Park Ji-yeon (Hospital Playlist 2) – alluding perhaps to a choice that Jang himself once made in the past.

We then return to a saddened Lee Joon, who tells Kang Hanna that it’s dangerous if he stays with her. However, Kang holds Lee back, protesting, “I can’t let you leave like this. I’m going to go with you to where you are staying.” An upset Lee replies in tears, “I don’t want that. My world is a place that you cannot stand in.”

With a final close-up of each of the main characters, the teaser comes to an end on Lee Joon turning around to face the audience in front of his throne.

Directed by PD Yoo Young-eun with scripts penned by Park Pil-joo (Cantabile Tomorrow), Red Heart premieres May 2 in the Monday-Tuesday slot.

The writer makes me wary but the teasers look good and the cast is solid. I just hope this gets licensed somewhere.

Sooo ready for this drama! Been watching modern ones lately so I'm glad to have a sageuk in the mix. Hoping for compelling characters including the villain.

Please let the writing be good! All the other elements are here for a great sageuk. The plot need not be original for this to be successful--we just need strong yet conflicted leads with multi-faceted personalities and everything else could easily fall into place. Certainly, the acting will be top-notch no matter what.

I physically NEED this to be good. Like, it will break me if it’s not good. I already know the acting will be impeccable, but will the writing keep up? God, I hope it does. My sageuk-loving heart needs it to.

Everything looks promising and well craft in the teasers. The writing which is really important factor of a successful drama, makes me worry. I hope kbs knows how to make it good when it comes to saguek. The cast is solid already so I don't have to worry about acting.

I am experiencing severe availability angst re RED HEART/RED SINGLE
HEART/BLOODY HEART.
Kocowa, question. Why am I paying you a subscription if this KBS drama won’t be available on your platform? Why isn’t this drama already on your “Coming Soon” list?

Apparently, it's going to be on Disney+, which honestly just sucks. The one drama I was looking forward to ...

I can't see Kocowa lasting much longer when the Big 3 license the majority of dramas elsewhere and dailies, weekend dramas and variety shows are basically the only things on it showing new episodes.

Thanks @missh for the update. Very disappointing. I will seriously have to think about maintaining my subscription to Kocowa. It no longer a given that the big three (KBS, SBS and MBC) dramas will be available on that platform.
