It's not in Disney+ North America yet. Wondering if this a one-go drop or weekly series.

I failed horribly at even passing ep 1 of S1, but I will take a look at this for Teachers´ sake.
tho im torn between yes he is great at action but after FoE I kinda want to see more psychological suspense and dramatic roles. and then, its not like I want the action dropped alltogether! but then!
ok even if this is bad, I shall watch it.

Unless they re-do characters completely, one of his roles here is not much of an action guy but a sly court schemer instead. So hopefully we'll get a bit of both.

Oh, that another dude was the walking bad omen in S1 (someone here dubbed him as "psycho elf" and that was a VERY apt description), people loved his unhinged manipulative persona way more than actual protagonist. So I really expect LJG's acting to deliver at that... as long as script cooperates ofc.

Same! The hair looks too wig-like, especially Saya's. But he still looks pretty so I'll just have to go with it.

That man himself is pretty enough that no bad wig can make him look bad 😂

*spoilers ahead*

Till now ep. 2, I love the war scenes between Saya's cavalry and Eunseom's infantry and how smart the Inaishigi (aka Eunseom) with the tactic on the plains - the knots tied in the grass which leave the enemy's horses tripping and their men falling off.

The only reason I'll be watching this is because I need closure. For the 18 hours of my life I spent on the first season. For gritting my teeth and getting through it, looking past its flaws, ignoring the plot holes, the unnecessarily stretched out plotlines, the having to squint through my eyes and get a headache by the end of it shot-in-candlelight episodes all because I liked the world building and wanted to see it through. And I was duped. Because I didn't know it was going to be two seasons. I didn't realize episode 18 was the end of it. And I was left flabbergasted went it ended.
So I shall watch. Despite the fact that the leads have changed, despite the fact that is after a 8 year time jump, despite that this drama has more characters and storylines and lore than it knows what to do with.
So please be alright, drama. I'm not even hoping for good or great. Just give me closure. I beg of thee.

Those 18 episodes in AC 1 averaged 80 minutes so in reality you spent 24 hours on the first season.

The main characters didn't change their face only, they got a lobotomy too. Now, Eunsom and Saya act the same... they're not very different anymore. It's weird. Eunsom seems cynical and cruel too now. Saya doesn't look mysterious anymore.

the drama is so-so, main problem being that the mythology and names etc are too complicated but Teacher totally rules every shot he is in so basically it could just as well be a storyteller monologue. ooh I would totally watch a mono-drama or play with Lee Joon Gi. He has such a grip over you with the tension and weight he puts into everything

The world of this drama definitely has a complicated mythology. And there are a lot of characters. I am not sure if I am misremembering, but did you say you never watched season one? Maybe the recaps for the first season could be helpful.

There is a Youtuber who does short recaps/reaction videos for the second season. I also know that there is a wiki page for the show.

Waited for this drama since last night, but another week of airtime reschedulling? With too frequent of sudden changes in schedule by tvN, it is getting harder for viewers to support this drama, unless you're a great fan of LJG (I'm still SMH coz my poor LJG has to put up with the ugly wigs 😂).

In an online news posted a few moments ago, the recent sudden changes is because tvN tried to avoid clashing with the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games (tvN wasn't broadcasting the Asian Games but the South Korea men’s national football team was playing the final match against the Japan team during the same period) BUT tvN’s sudden decision to change the schedule which taking away viewers’ rights to watch the drama, contributes to backlash and a significant drop in ratings.

"This ratings drop is attributed to the decision to air episodes 5 and 6 consecutively on September 23rd and cancel the drama on September 24th," the news reported. "The drama had a long runtime and episode 6 aired past midnight, resulting in audience attrition."

"Due to the Asian Games and the Chuseok holiday, this drama was canceled from September 24th to September 30th, October 1st. With another cancellation until October 7th, the drama will have a two-week break, which may further affect its rating."

"The ratings had been stable, with the first 4 episodes consistently reaching the 5% range. However, frequent cancellations and consecutive broadcasts have taken a toll on viewers’ interest. With 6 episodes left, it will be challenging for the drama to recover its ratings. Overcoming the obstacles created by the disrupted broadcast schedule will not be easy, and regaining the lost momentum is a challenging task." 😌

Hello, my fellow Beanies.

I am feeling conflicted about this season of the show. There are elements that I like, but I also feel that something is missing. I've been re-watching the first season while waiting for the new episodes to air each week (or almost every week, since there doesn't seem to be a consistent schedule, lol) so the differences are more apparent to me.

My biggest issue is that I do not/cannot reconcile the starkly different portrayals of certain characters in this season from their previous portrayals. There are many things going on. First of all, we had a number of actor changes, and I must admit that this is not something I am fond of in general. Then we have the eight year time gap between the events of the first and second seasons.

You could argue that a lot has changed for our characters in those eight years, but I do not think it is a significant explanation for what we are seeing in terms of characterizations. One character that comes to mind is Ipsaeng. In the first season, he is full of humor. He is also someone who, due to his troubled past and upbringing, has a more every-man-for-himself mentality. I know that he does grow by the end of season one (if I remember correctly), but what happened to his lively personality? In season two, Ipsaeng hardly seems to have a significant role. He also doesn't have much of a personality.

I am also conflicted about the portrayals of Saya and Eunseom. Don't get me wrong, I think that Lee Jung-gi is very talented, but I don't get that I am seeing the same twins from season one. Again, I understand that the characters will have grown, matured, etc. across those eight years, but I do not believe that the show has done a good job in conveying how those changes occurred. I can get that Eunseom has become hardened from his years of fighting and working towards destroying Arthdal. Maybe it doesn't help that Lee Jung-gi and Song Jeong-gi give off totally different vibes. In the first season, Eunseom always retained some innocence while also gaining wisdom, shrewdness, and experience. I could go on--I have not said anything about Tanya, for example--but I hope that I have been able to illustrate my point

Again, I still like elements of this season, but I often feel as though I am watching a different show. Since I am currently re-watching season one, the differences between the two seasons are more jarring.

What do other Beanies think? How many Beanies are watching this season? I know that it is not easily accessible, which might explain some of the low viewership.

I wrote this post a little too quickly.

I meant Lee Joon-gi and Song Joong-ki, or 이준기 and 송중기, respectively.

I think im the only Beanie who is still following this drama  and because its not easily accessible in my country, I have to go to the 'darkside'

I read that Song Joong Ki, Kim Ji Won and director Kim Won Seok decided to quit the 2nd project because the 1st season received too many criticisms and controversies for its poor CG and alleged plagiarism. But when Lee Joon Gi and Shin Se Kyung first entered as the replacement cast, fans protested and criticized the production team. Since the image of Eunseom&Saya and Tanya had been significantly embedded with Song Joong Ki and Kim Ji Won as the actors, fans couldn’t accept the idea of other actors playing the same roles. Poor LJG, despite being a veteran actor carrying the title of King of Sageuk, fans still doubted his ability.

I never watch Season 1 so while waiting for the recent delayed airing time, i watched a few eps from Season 1. And you're right about watching Season 2 like a different show. All I can say is that the actors/actress from Season 1 owned their characters respectively that no matter how good the replacement actors/actress are, they cant change that facts.

While i think LJG's Saya and Eunseom is fine and he looks comfortable as the benetbeots (except for their wigs ), i still prefer KJW as Tanya.. its painful to see SSK as season 2's Tanya and this is my first time see her acting. Reviewers criticised her stiff acting and after ep. 10, I think her stiffness hasnt changed.

You and I are both watching things on the dark side. :)
Yes, I definitely think it is hard to accept actor changes when you have become accustomed to a certain actor and his or her particular portrayal of a character. That being said, I was still willing to watch season two despite the actor changes (and Lee Jun-ki is so talented, King of Saeguk indeed).
Personally, I can’t help but focus on all the changes that were made. Granted, some of the changes are good, and this season does come across as more epic than the previous one.
In terms of looks, I bring up a couple of examples. What made the Momo and Ago tribes unique is no longer the case. I mentioned that I was re-watching season one in my original comment. I am at the point when Eun-seom and Ipsaeng have been captured by one of the clans of the Ago tribe. If you get the chance, I recommend that you watch those episodes and see how the people are dressed and how their culture is portrayed. I will double check to see if the two particular clans of the Ago tribe have further distinctions in their clothing (I don't remember at this point). In season two, the various tribes in and around Arthdal seem to have the same look. Going back to the Ago specifically, I know that Eun-seom manages to unite the various clans, so maybe that could explain the more uniform look, but that doesn't explain why the Momo tribe looks the same. We haven’t seen the whole Momo tribe yet, but the small group that follows the Xabara’s half-brother, Kamat, look very different from the Momo warriors of season one.
Another point related to depictions: what happened to the Igutu's purple lips? I guess one could argue that the particular purple shade used in season one looked a little silly, but the lore of this drama universe established the purple lips as a marker of Igutu distinction, just as blue lips were a marker of Neantal identity, and peach/tan (or skin color) lips were a marker of Saram identity. In this season, there is very little to physically distinguish Igutus from Saram. If the makeup team wanted to go with a less “silly” look, they still could have toned down the purple while not eliminating it completely.
These are just some examples. That being said, I am still watching this show, because I still like the story. I think there might be the possibility of a third season.

May I ask where you read this? I really wish that the original cast would have stuck around. Also, probably by the time the production team got around to filming the second season, many of the original actors already had other commitments.

"i still prefer KJW as Tanya."

So do I.

Alrighty, episodes 1 and 2.
Since I didn't watch S1, I wonder how much of the world building is just totally lost on me. Like there was this group who was speaking another language and I was wondering where they fit into things. I think some of them are like brainwashed/hypnotized assassins.

At the palace, it seems like a true blue strategic marriage and there's no love lost between the king and queen. I think Eunseom is supposed to be a good guy but then I thought Saya and Tanya were also supposed to be "good" guys yet Saya was still plotting to kill his brother even after setting up the no weapons allowed reunion meet.

This is just an aside but do the guys, specifically Lee Joon Gi, wear hair extensions in this? I know Joon Gi grew out his hair for this but I think the twins' hair is longer that what his hair was in the video I saw. Also he looks different but I can't put finger on what's different.

Episode 2 & 3
I can't help but chuckle at the fact that amidst almost dying, the twins apparently switched clothes in order for this swap to happen haha

At first, I thought Saya got cut on the arm so I didn't understand why did he not get back up and run to Mubaek as Eunseom told him? He just stayed on the floor and waited for the assassin to set him on fire(?) I felt like I had missed something but even after realizing he got cut on the leg (or was it the abdomin?), it seemed like he stayed on the ground a bit. Again, I guess this is chalked up to "the show needs to happen"/"for the plot"

I think I was wrong about the assassins being from the same group as the folks speaking a different language.

I'm not really feeling the romance between Eunseom and Tanya. All the elements are certainly there (the longing looks, the skinship, etc) but I'm just not *feeling* it.

It's always hard watching these class divides because it's just always disgusting and horrible. "The slaves are being treated too well because they eat 3 hot meals like everyone else and it's causing discord and breaking down the social hiearchy!" Sigh. I get it but it's still so frustrating.

I kinda do like the queen. She's savvy, practical, and skillful in fighting. She's pretty badass and even though she's an antagonist (that I wouldn't like in reality but I would respect/admire) she is kinda cool (so far).

Episode 4
I guess this is a case of where watching S1 and seeing the dynamics established there would be beneficial because people are betraying and pleading for folks' lives and I'm just like "these people know your secret! They are liabilities!"
It's heartbreaking when betrayal happens especially when it blindsides you. From what I understand Eunseom has been planning and trying to gain power and ability to help to his people and to find out they don't even consider him one of them AND they think they should've killed him before. So disappointing and disheartening. The fact that Eunseom doesn't just kill them as soon as he gets the chance shows he's way more rational and practical than others might be in his situation.

Saya just randomly being hugged by a random man as soon as he woke up made me chuckle. Talk about disorienting haha.

I'm so confused; how is Eunseom the reincarnation of TWO people?
So no one is the reincarnation of anyone but instead they're just bestowed those titles by desperate people who want/need something/someone to believe in?

I really don't understand this reincarnation stuff.

It's super messed up how people who were villified and persecuted people instantly became the "chosen" ones because a previous leader turned out to be of that group. It's so ridiculous and gross how people can be.

Episode 5
I feel kinda bad for Saya cause he has such pining, petulant little brother energy haha. Eunseom keeps getting everything for some reason while Saya is just lacking in comparison. Eunseom gets the girl, the reincarnations, the genuine admiration and care while Saya is just always hanging on for survival. He's so lonely. Even though Eunseom is the younger twin, Saya seems like a moody teen haha. Aww Saya.

The sequence with the "discovery" of the sword made me chuckle. It's just all of it: the rain, the thunder & lightning, the music. How epic it's supposed to be but I was just looking at his arm and wondering if there was any photoshop or whatever to define his muscle definition haha.

Episode 6 & 7
Aww and that big brother/little brother dynamic is on display with Eunseom saving Saya's ass and Saya having to ask for help (forming an alliance) despite the [obvious] blow to his pride.

Wowww, imagine being an undercover spy and your role is to play deaf & mute for 10+ years.

I guess it was a good idea to not kill those betrayed him since in the end they helped Eunseom escape, while also giving valuable information, and laid way for the sword in the tree.

I don't even feel bad for that guard (Yangcha) who was stuck between a rock and a hard place because he said that "order" unnecessarily just like he went to confront Eunseom unnecessarily.

And I'm confused yet again. When was the prince (supposedly) poisoned? Taelha tried having Saya killed before the prince was kidnapped. After that she abducted Eunseom to interrogate him about his identity.

I knew the horse was gonna be killed and sucked just as much as I thought it would. Animal deaths always hit harder for me.
I did wonder if the spirit of Helper was gonna go into another horse especially since reincarnation is such a part of the show.

I didn't watch S1 (as previously mentioned) but I just watched some clips/fanvids and wow are the dynamics different between S1 & S2. Maybe that's a result of the years passing and them being at war (in universe) but in the fanvid I saw, Saya in S1 seemed manipulative and devious who enjoyed people not knowing what to think of him (again, it was a fanvid so that was probably the concept/vibe they were going for. But still those scenes obviously exist haha). I got the feeling Eunseom was more carefree and questioning about his place in life.

In S2, there is none of that. Saya is more of a lonely, broken guy. I kinda feel bad for him. Eunseom is fully confident in himself and his role as Inshinagini. He gives such big brother vibes in his scenes with Saya; like he can totally see through him which makes him empathetic to him yet kinda annoyed or disappointed in his choices.
