Namgoong Min reunites with his Dearest Ahn Eun-jin

There’s now just over a week left until the second half of MBC’s My Dearest brings tragedy back to our doorsteps. But thankfully we do get a glimmer of hope in the latest round of promos where our heartbroken Namgoong Min (One Dollar Lawyer) and Ahn Eun-jin (The Good Bad Mother) are finally (!) reunited face to face.

Given where things left off at the end of Part 1, we of course didn’t expect the best of circumstances. While not unscathed, our hardy leads have somehow survived their time apart and the teaser opens on our still-separated pair as they try to endure yet another day.

Looking up at the night sky, Lee Jang-hyun (Namgoong Min) wonders to himself, “It’s strange, isn’t it? On nights like this when the moon shines bright, I am still with you… I don’t quite know where things started to wrong.” In the sequence, we watch the aftermath of Qing’s victory in Joseon, which unfortunately spells even more trouble for our heroine Yoo Gil-chae (Ahn Eun-jin).

We then cut to Lee Chung-ah (Celebrity) in beautiful splendor, who makes it menacingly clear that Jang-hyun is hers or else. But as we know, Jang-hyun’s heart remains with Gil-chae and the text screens reveal that she is the one he very much misses and loves, and the one thing he wanted to protect. In voiceover, he confesses: “Live like a flower. That is the only thing I want.”

Not wanting to put Jang-hyun in danger, our heroine pleads, “Don’t do anything on my behalf.” But Jang-hyun declines, declaring that he’s going to follow his heart and is unable to just stand by when Gil-chae is being taken away. Without hesitation, our hero fights to rescue her and the teaser closes on their tearful reunion as Jang-hyun takes hold of Gil-chae’s hand.

On the production side, scripts continue under writer Hwang Jin-young (Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People) while directing is now helmed by a team of three, with PD Lee Han-joon joining PD Kim Sung-yong (The Veil) and PD Chun Soo-jin. Resuming in MBC’s weekend slot, Part 2 of My Dearest will be launching next week on October 13.

I will receive the call for interview from my dream school by the end of October 12. Meaning, if I get rejected I will have a reason to cry my eyes out and blame it on the show on October 13. Thanks for having my back, My Dearest!

Personal sentiments aside, I am glad they are not making LJH fall in love with the other woman. That said, I am worried that Lee Chung Ah's character would become just another evil SFL.

Friday the 13th. Fits this show perfectly, ominous and unstelling.
I will blame the early disappearance of Halloween candies on the show, so I am stocking up early.

Speaking of superstition, does it make any sense that Jang Hyun bought Joseon flower shoes for Gil Chae from Shenyang?
The Qing ladies wore different shoes, like mati di "horse-hoof" and yuanbao di.

The one on the trailer could belong to a maid since it's flat, or maybe wearing a mati di needs a lot of practice or something equivalent to a driver's license. Haha

Oooh, good catch!
Wow, those are beautiful. As someone who can fall off her own bare feet, the thought of being elevated on a small porcelain pedestal is terrifying!

@bbstl
Gorgeous handmade designs, especially Ruyi's shoes.
Big yay to Hong Taiji for banning foot binding for the Qing women. It looks awful and painful.

I know this might sound patronising but I don’t intend it as such. Just consolatory. Even though I hope you get into your dream school for sure, don’t let it erode your self-esteem if you don’t get in as there is hardly ever only one dream school.

Thanks for your kind words. I will be bummed out if I don't get in but the ones who will would most likely be brilliant. If my CV does not measure up to that level, it is not such a tragedy.

@kiara, do you know if they also pre-produced some bits before part 1 or has it been continually filmed and then broadcast? Thanks.

Sorry, Emma, I don't know how they are doing it, but adding another PD probably means they need to speed things up.

Thank you Kiara. Hopefully, actors and the others are not too stressed to try and make their deadlines.

This trailer from My Dearest is telling me it ain't gonna be easy at all for our couple.

I'm more worried about what happened that made Gil-chae's hand be on the slaughter to be slaughtered. I'm already prepping my heart for the worst, and a possible death.

Just thinking out loud, is it a coincidence that we had Won-mo being the human standing in the way in part one and swaying Gil-chae. I'm guessing Jang-hyun is the next one to be swayed by the yet unnamed human obstacle Lee Chung-ah.

It's so sad to watch, but historically accurate, how the Qing women tortured the captured Joseon women with boiling water, beating, etc.

I don’t quite know where things started to wrong. Really? I can tell you. Since the beginning!

I wonder what happened to her family. Her hair is tied and up, it means she married the other guy?

Here goes our collective hope that the writer wouldn't go there *sigh* Well, let's see how she'll squirm trying to get herself out of this deadly to the plot corner then.

And the messiest tearjerker of the year is back to torture us some more! Not sure if that's hooray or yikes mood-wise tho. This trailer doesn't exactly fill me with great hopes - I thought that 1.5 months would be enough to heal the wound left by Part1's finale, but apparently not. And MORE love triangle BS, really? Well, there's one clearly good thing here - I don't see a trace of GC's what's-his-name plot devicey husband, meaning that we probably won't gonna suffer much from his presence, if any at all... Yeah, let's off him off-screen, pretty please!

I get excited just hearing his voice! I really like this drama and can't wait for part 2. I love the cinematography and everything else. Plot holes and improbability be gone!

Ack, things look so painful and dire for Gil Chae. I hope there'll be some good OTP scenes and lighter ones to balance out all the torture.
